Una pequeña joya tradicional japonesa. . .

Nice traditional Japanese food, most of our party had the five-course dinner menu which I think is a good way to try a variety of the food on offer. I never order soup and I am happy I had the set menu because the Dobin Mushi was lovely, I was told the grilled ell is the best you can find, and the restaurant is known for its quality of ell so I would also recommend trying that. I feel of the restaurant is professional and calm but the interior needs re designing and modernising as it is looking a little tired and does not reflect the quality of food. The staff are lovely they got the tables mixed up a few times which is surprising as there are not many tables and they were a little slow on drinks orders, but lovely people and I would go back for the good food and polite friendly staff.

Domo Origato.

This is the real deal, like being in Japan for the time of the dinner. Don't be let down by the dull decorations, it is a GREAT Japanese restaurant, believe me, I am an absolute fanatic of Japan and its food. The Fish quality was incredible, so sooooo soft, like butter, it melted in your mouth. The service is very cordial and they really make an effort. If I have to say a negative point, just to be objective, if a table next to yours ask for the shabu-shabu, you will smell horrible when you go home, all your clothes will stink. We paid £35 per person (dinner) for a big plate of tempura, big sashimi dish, fried tofu and a special inside out roll.I will definitely come back.

The place is haggard, the lighting sucks and there are air conditioning units at face level where you eat. If the food can underwrite the unprofessionalism then fine, but it can't (Im sorry). We arrived at 9pm on a Saturday for dinner. Sharp question "have you made a reservation". They then hurried us to order. They were out of udon noodles but still tried to flog the £35 dish which I thought was a little tacky. When we had just finished our starter, they declared at 21:50 that the kitchen was about to close so pleas order what you need. This was really disappointing. An Italian and Spaniard were dining with us and they were shocked. They then DIDNT ITEMISE THE BILL which is a little trick they've played with other customers it seems. The tuna sushi was average. They then started huffing and puffing that we didn't plan on paying the 12.5% service charge (.c£25). Miyama you're a disgrace and you're food is bang average. I had been taken to this restaurant before by colleagues from work and really enjoyed it and so decided to visit at lunchtime with partner. We started with a good plum wine which was not too sweet (we did not have soda with it). There is a set menu or a la carte, we had the former which begins with a fabulous soup served in a small tea pot (look in the pot for a piece of chicken a shrimp, mushrooms etc - excellent), the next course is either deep fried vegetables or Japanese delicacies (cannot recall name) - we had both and shared, very tasty. Next we had raw fish- tuna, salmon and white fish - absolutely marvellous and then the main course which for us was either chicken teriyaki or black cod, we shared of course - the cod was first class. Fresh fruit and ice cream to end. A really pleasant lunch for non Japanese food experts, we will return. The surroundings are delightfully understated, the staff extremely helpful and a nice atmosphere throughout.

I want to say how foolish I feel having walked past this super Japanese restaurant just steps away from my club for all these years .. it was only when a good friend of mine took me for lunch earlier this year that I realised what I had been missing !! The food is fresh, scrumptious and they serve the best soft shell crab I have ever had along with a great selection of Sake. The staff are very efficient, polite and organised whilst the restaurant is very clean, minimalist and quiet. I notice it fills very quickly at lunchtime so get there at 12.30 as they close at 2.30pm. I now dine there regularly and for Mayfair it is very reasonable, offering a set lunch menu at an excellent fixed price or the standard menu also very good value. Given the location (and prices), I was surprised by the bland interior and the lack of atmosphere. The street is fairly charmless. The service was a bit wobbly, too. Not what I was looking for at a business dinner with clients. Fortunately, everyone at the table styled themselves sushi aficionados, meaning if the food is great, no one cares about these other issues. And that was the case. The presentation was a bit uninspired, but the fish seemed very fresh and the flavors stopped the conversation. I would come back, but with again with people who would appreciate the focus on the food.

We popped in here without a reservation on a Tuesday night as we were visiting London for a couple of days and really craving Japanese. We were greeted and seated nice and quickly. We advised the waitress we only had an hour to eat as we needed to get over to a bus tour and they happily obliged. We ordered several dishes off the menu and asked that they all be brought out when ready as opposed to starters/mains as this is how we prefer to eat this type of food. Again the staff were happy to oblige. The food arrived really swiftly and was all excellent. The spicy tuna sushi was fantastic and my partners highlight of the meal. We also enjoyed a bowl of udon soup with prawn tempura, again lovely. So simple but really tasty! You could tell everything was cooked fresh. The restaurant is tucked down a side road off the Main Street but is under 5 mins walk from green park station, just round the corner from the ritz. Visited here with a friend who is a fellow Japanese fan - delighted to find the restaurant full of Japanese people both business (presumably from the embassy) and families. Always a good sign. We were not disappointed - choosing the set lunch menu for £27, we had high expectations but they were exceeded. 3 of 4 courses had a choice and for the main course there was a large number of options including black cod, chicken or beef teriyaki and others. My first course was soft shell crab served tempura style and we both were served an accompanying soup in a clay pot. Don't forget to open the lid, not only is the soup delicious and of consomme light quality, but the ingredients are lovely too. Then to the second course of a 'small' sashimi which consisted of a very generous 6 decent pieces of salmon, tuna and seabass. The fish was just exceptional. For the main course we had chicken teriyaki and the black cod, both again just fantastic in quality and flavour. They were accompanied by three gorgeous maki rolls and a miso soup - perfect. As the gift that keeps on giving, we then received a beautiful light dessert consisting of a small portion of fruit with one dainty ball of wonderfully light yoghurt ice cream. We had green tea with our lunch but there was a separate sake menu which looked amazing, and plenty more food options and drinks on offer. But why would you? The set menu is just fantastic value and with all the options in it, you will never have the same meal. Having become jaded and a little cynical about what's on offer in Mayfair over lunch, this place has just shown how it's done!

The restaurant is in a quiet street of Mayfair. My first impression from the outside was that it looks small, but I was surprised how big it was once you are inside. The restaurant was bright with cream walls, however I found that the tables quite close to each other. The food and drink menus were extensive but we decided to go for the special 5 course dinner menu, and we were spoilt for choice as they have a good selection for each course. Each of the courses was very presented. If you choose Dobin Mushi soup this was served in a teapot which was unusual. I chose the seabass teriyaki sauce and my friend had fillet of beef teriyaki sauce as the main course, both of these dishes were cooked to perfection. It was a bit of shame they didn’t give you a side plate so that we could sample each other food. The fruit platter came with small pot of lemon sorbet which I didn’t think it went together as the fruits were sweet. The service was quick as we weren’t kept waiting between courses and the staff were efficient and polite. Overall I would recommend this restaurant as it does a good selection of Japanese food in a nice setting. It can be expensive it cost us just over £100 for 2 without having a bottle of wine (we had 2 beers and diet coke).

At her suggestion I met an old friend here for a catch up lunch. The atmosphere was really pleasant: a smallish well lit room with most tables occupied - by a high proportion of Japanese customers -but without the feeling of being overcrowded. So it was perfect for the session of indiscreet gossip that my friend and I were looking forward to.The staff comprised young Japanese women and a male manager. They were attentive and I found no language problem with them. The menu includes a wide variety of set meals and, if anything, rather undersells them. I order the sashimi set but actually got a plate of appetizers, a dish of tempura vegetables and a bowl of miso soup in addition to the actual sashimi. I drank one of the Japanese beers on offer. The drinks list was long and interesting with all sorts of Japanese drinks that I had never heard of.

This restaurant may not look much on the outside but inside is the real deal. Food is high quality and prepared to the highest standard. The atmosphere is a bit stark and it feels a bit like a diner in the basement, but one clearly frequents for the food, not the ambience.

Visited for a business lunch and enjoyed the food very much - and thought the service was excellent. We had the 5 course menu (£50 per head) and were all completely stuffed afterwards. The prawns and scallops were a particular highlight and whilst this wasn't the best Japanese food I've ever tasted, it was certainly one of the better Japanese restaurants I've visited.

Best Japonese restaurant in London. Finest freshly prepared sashimi and sushi, an amazing sake selection and wonderful seaweed salad. Try the salmon and advocaco inside out rolls. Amazing! The eel don is the best I've ever had. Tempura can be a bit hit and miss.

We will definitely come back and we thank Miyama again for giving us a great evening.

My boyfriend and I came into this restaurant for dinner. We were celebrating his birthday, and had never been there before, and we were both absolutely delighted with the entire experience. From the moment we arrived, we loved the quiet layout of the restaurant. It was beautiful and the staff were friendly and kind. We ordered a bottle of prosecco to celebrate the occasion, and we had a gentleman come over and pour it for us (proper champagne service) and he was also very friendly.Throughout dinner (we had the 5 course meal), we had a variety of servers who came over to make sure we were OK, and we had our plates taken away and our new meals come out almost instantly. Everything was amazing and delicious. As a main, my boyfriend had the steak, and he said it was the best tasting steaks (and best cooked) that he had ever had. On top of that, I had the teriyaki salmon, which was absolutely incredible and delicious. To top it all off, the gentleman in the beginning (who had poured our prosecco) remembered me saying that it was my boyfriend's birthday, and he brought over our dessert with a candle in it for him: incredibly thoughtful!!Even on our way out, the entire staff were waiting and saying happy birthday and goodbye to us. I have never had such a wonderful experience in ANY restaurant before, and would definitely recommend Miyama to anyone. Everything was absolutely perfect, and considering this was such an important occasion for my boyfriend and me, it made all the difference.

Located in the posh Mayfair, you can not straight away see the restaurant,. It stands in between houses and looks small from outside, the name is not really visible either. But once you are inside, it is bright and roomy, with an ordinary Japanese restaurant ambience, does not look like a fine dining, but very cozy. I saw several Japanese business men dined there too, so I think it must be well kniwn to Japanese. We ordered an under stated sukiyaki, tempura moriawase, unagi teriyaki and several entrees. The taste was authentic Japanese and the unagi (eel) was fantastic, the sukiyaki was also in a perfect taste, but the tempura I think missed a bit of crispyness. The attendants are very helpful, they even allowed me to have shabu shabu sauce when I did not order it. Attendants are all Japanese. Price is a bit expensive, cause I think it's in Mayfair. Recommended.

Eating here again was a joy - I took my girlfriend along this time and we both merrily ploughed through the delightful 5 course set dinner. Some might find the dining area to be somewhat bland and during our visit there was an Andrew Lloyd-Webber song stuck on perpetual repeat but what really counts for me is that the food is refreshingly good and fair value. You can be confident of enjoying your meal here and I can hardly wait for the next time.

- centrally located in Mayfair, next to "Greenpark" (tube station)- location is simple (as it is most times in Japanese restaurants)- staff was very friendly, however shy and partly totally beginners- offering: cold appetizers (edamame, tofu salad,..), hot appetizers (yakitori, gyouza,..), soups, sashimi, tempura, fish and meat dishes as well as assorted sushi- edamame (3.80 GPB), big portion- assorted sashimi (19 GBP), very tasty- black cod misoyaki (19.20 GBP), pretty small portion for the price and no side dishes (e.g. rice); however, fish was nice- avocado roll (3.20 GBP); prawn tempura roll (5.50 GBP) were tasty as well(- since the waitress did not understand the English language very well - we had to show the Japanese writing on the menu to her - they brought prawn tempura (hot appetizer) and not prawn tempura roll (sushi)) - we had this position on the bill in the end!!- we paid all in 71.66 GBP (incl. the tempura we did not order) and the restaurant chef was not really friendlyConclusion: Fish/Sushi was good, service could be better, chef was unfriendly and charged the prawn tempura we did not order (and therefore it was 10 GBP too expensive for us)!

I have alternated between Miyama and Kiku for a number of years. Both are around the corner from the Japanese Embassy. Both pride themselves on great sushi. My vote goes to Kiku more often than not.Having just returned to Miyama for a business lunch, I would make the following critical comments:Ambiance: a major construction site now faces the entrance. The reverberations of digging and drilling will likely continue for the next year. Not exactly a Zen atmosphere. The interior also feels a bit tired compared to the lighter and crisper style of Kiku. The bathroom is also pretty depressing. Service was also not up to scratch today. Simple example, I arrived early and was the only person in the restaurant. No one offered me anything on arrival; I had to seek out the waitress for a simple green tea. Bottom line: Kiku gets my vote. Nobu also stands out.

Visited this restaurant in January for my birthday and found it to be perfect. The staff were very professional and welcoming. The quality of the food was excellent and I would also say reasonably priced, as the bill came to about £65 for the two of us including drinks (no dessert). Service from the kitchen was fast - we ordered a lot of dishes and yet somehow we were in and out of the restaurant within an hour. The main highlight is that the food is quite varied and unique. If you are a bit adventurous then you will be rewarded by the experience.

The quality of the food here is truly exceptional, not perhaps the innovation you would expect at Nobu, Dinings or Korubuta, but it is rock solid time after time. Miyama is badly in need of redecorating and the menu seems unchanged over the years but I absolutely love this place. I love that the staff barely speak English, I love that despite well over a hundred visits i have never met anyone from my office. I love that i am not tired of the menu.Top picks are the Dobin Mushi, the Yoshinagawa sake, the lunch set menu and the Kotubuki from the dinner menu - a selection of their best sushi. Ask if they have uni (sea urchin) which hasn't been available for a while. Miyama is exceptional value and usually half the clientele are Japanese, which must be a good sign.

Although I am male, I do have opinions. My wife have stronger opinions and I share them. When she wants to eat Japanese or Thai, I research, find and book the place, but ultimately, her first experience dictastes whether we go back or not. 95% of the time, we don't.Miyama Japanese Restaurant in Mayfair London is conveniently off Piccadilly, in a quiet street, stylishly decorated in a blend of Japanese and Modern Art. I am getting to it,... the Food is wonderful. This describes aptly the look and tastes of the food magically appearing on our table once we order our favourite dishes. When we entertain our friends and visitors, we can add and try a few more dishes; and the food and the service never lets us down. It is high class but not overly pricey. Well I am definitely not rich, but for the special occasions and gatherings, it is well worth it.Our favorite dishes are soft shell crab, the tea pot soup, steamed egg (may be off menu but on request will always be served), the Kaisen Salad (interesting textures of salads and seaweeds), to name but a few.

The only reason I am not putting an excellent rating at this restaurant is the very slow service and the lack of air ventilation. The food was amazing, everything we tried was excellent but I highly recommend the sushi, it's one of the best I have ever tried.

Had a craving for sushi somewhere in-between the high high end and Yo Sushi and chanced upon this place. Intending to do a lunch walk in for a la carte or one of their set menus, I was instead offered their Omakase menu only which is usually available via prior reservation only, more courses and of course, more expensive. The sitting was only half full so not sure why a la carte etc wasn't available. The edamame, dessert and miso were forgettable and barely deserving to make up three of the 11 courses (dessert was a scoop of ice cream) and the fish itself was good, prepared in front of you as you'd expect. It wasn't clear that the fish was "dry aged" so the flavours of classics were unique if familiar. The atmosphere was casual at lunch - this isn't pretentious although they still seem to be ironing out some kinks with the service - e.g some things were explained to one end of the counter and not the other. In addition to the lack of an a la option as suggested on their website (or set menus as featured in other reviews), the lunch Omakase is cheaper than on their website, which I only noticed after the fact as the so called encore sushi of your choice promised on the website was not offered so I double checked to ensure I had not misread. Overall a decent experience but some consistency in marketing/expectations management needed.
