Cannot complain about the ambience, but the food could have been better..

Absolutely loved everything. Food was fantastic, presentation awesome and we had the best service ever. Will definitely return on my next visit to London. Wished I lived closer so I could visit more often.

We have been here for lunch quite often in the past year and enjoyed every visit. The food is great and the staff are very nice and accommodating for our little one, always making sure there is something to eat for her too.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Chotto Matte. The food is just incredible and the Pisco Sours and absolute must-try. The team was very attentive and knowledgable and made our evening extra special. We will be back soon!

The restaurant provides a very good experience overall. The ambiance is nice, soothing and feels classy. The service was excellent. Staff were very polite, knowledgeable and presented each dish very well. Service was a bit slow at times, but their demeanor makes up for it! The lunch bento box was tasty and had many premium tasting sashimi fishes. The salmon main was amazing, I highly recommend adding the extra £5 for it. They made my birthday lunch very special, thank you!

Lovely restaurant in a well designed location. Good and kind service with reined meals. We ordered several plates to share a la carte: Starter: padron peppers (recommended - 9/10) Small plates: - wagyu beef gyoza (amazing texture and taste, 8.5/10) - Spicy Chicken Karaage (super soft and tender, not too spicy, 9/10) - Argentinian red prawn truffle (good flavors, the topping was quite spicy, 8/10) Raw bar: - yellowtail sashimi (one of the best dishes we had there, the taste was impressively well balanced, 9.7/10) Sushi bar: - soft shell crab role (well presented and tasteful, 8.6/10) Robata: - Asado de Tira (super tender beef, almost beef stew like, 9.5/10) -tentaculos de pulpo (good presentation but the taste was off, the flavors didn’t balance well and it was too salty. We have sent it back which they accepted with much grace, 3/10 but 10/10 for service) - wood fired Brussels sprouts (bit underwhelming, would not combine it with cheese and nuts, 5/10) Overall a great experience, with a tremendous service and fun cocktails. Despite on the high end of the price range, would recommend.

We pretty much ordered the whole menu 😆 Overall everything was really nice and tjr food was delicious. The service was very hospitable and friendly. We ordered the padron peppers (amazing), yellow tail sashimi (WOW), beef gyoza (yum), karage chicken (my favourite), slow cooked beef (star of the show), and the Brussels sprouts and octopus. Unfortunately the octopus wasn’t that good but they were kind enough to take it back. Overall I would highly recommend this place !

What I love about London is that I can eat at so many different restaurants and be pleasantly surprised that I've found one that I'd never even heard of...serving one of my favourite cuisines. The Frith Street (Soho) branch is very well known with 3,000 reviews. This Paddington Street branch has only been open for a year and a half (as of 17th November 2023) and only had 165 reviews when I found it. We were keen to try it. As soon as you walk in, the atmosphere is bustling, fun and full of character. The large Come As You Are neon sign is the first thing you'll see after going through the revolving door. We were greeting and seated. Service was prompt, efficient and they explain the dishes on serving which we really enjoy. Looking (discreetly!) at other tables' food we could see it was all presented superbly. Before I go through what we had, there was one dish you must order. I've only ever seen it at Katsuya on Hollywood Boulevard in LA and used to order it all the time. Spicy Tuna Crispy Sushi. You will not be disappointed. Apparently only Nobu in London serves that dish as well. Not surprising as Nobu's first restaurant was on La Cienega in LA. Wagyu Beef Gyoza - really enjoyed the flavour and the texture. Of all the dishes, and we enjoyed them all, this could have done with some improvement by being a bit less soft and wet. I've had them served a variety of ways and personally prefer them to be slightly crispy. Spicy Tuna Crispy Sushi - WOW!! Talk about memories. Smooth tuna tartare to start the bite along with the Peruvian chilli quickly followed up with the crunch of the crispy rice underneath. It took a lot of willpower not to order a second helping immediately. Sea Bass Ceviche - fresh, citrusy, full of flavour and the Peruvian corn and sweet potato to snack on in between sea bass bites was lovely. Pollo Den Miso - thought we'd try the miso chicken. The dish could have done with being warmer, yet the flavour was superb. Well presented. Overall 4 stars because, of the four dishes we ordered, two could be improved, especially the Pollo Den Miso. Nevertheless, we really enjoyed our time there, the food and the service and have no doubt the restaurant will make improvements. We will go back in a month or so to check! :-)

Absolutely fantastic venue! I enjoyed all the food and struggled to choose my favourite dish - the mix of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine was interesting and delicious. I recommend getting a mix of plates to have the full experience. Service was impeccable with staff ensuring all preferences are met and explaining the dishes in detail so you really know what you’re eating. Quite pricey but I recommend a visit here, especially for a special occasion!

A birthday to remember! Indulged in a unique blend of Japanese + Peruvian cuisines (last Thursday). Highly recommend the Purple Truffle Mash, Chicken Karaage, Tuna Tataki, and Tentaculos de Pulpo !! Matcha crepe cake and Mochi (consisting of coconut, mango and matcha ice creams) were to die for - deep flavours and mango tasted very fresh. I will definitely return to try the rest of their menu. Only downside was dim lighting for photos. Special shout out to Ledio who was welcoming and also kindly brought us another lamp for extra lighting 😉

Amazing experience. Great food - highly recommend steak, black cod, dragon rolls and Japanese soufflé cheesecake. Great atmosphere - dark and moody but not pretentious. Great staff - Georgina was very attentive and ensured our food was made specifically to meet our dietary requirements.

Update on my original review. Still superb. I have now been for dinner and it was excellent. Everything I have had has been 5 star. The Chotto Matte team are excellent. Just had lunch in Chotto Marylebone and the only word I can think of to describe it is FABULOUS. Good, service, atmosphere etc etc we’re superb. I cannot recommend highly enough.

I'd like to thank the waiter for excellent service, I didn't catch his name but he had messy blonde hair and glasses, serving the table in the far corner. Thanks for a fantastic night!

This was my second time visiting Chotto Matte, and somehow they managed to outdo themselves. In addition to what we tried the first time around, we also tried the Salt and Pepper Squid and Spicy Edamame which was lovely. However, the star of the night was the Pollo Den Miso and Asado De Tira. The chicken was perfectly juicy and succulent, I thought it couldn't possibly get better until I tried the beef. The beef was utterly divine and extremely tender. I can't wait to go back for more. The dessert options were lovely, I enjoyed some ice cream as well as a peanut butter brownie.

The food was exceptional. Cocktails were incredible (had a couple of rounds of the pisco sour), ambience was spot on, and the staff were super helpful and at hand to give the right recommendations.

The food was outstanding! No doubt about that! And the service, until the very end, was very good. The sommelier was excellent! (A blonde Italian lady - I didn’t get her name). Unfortunately this amazing chef does not appear to be backed by his front of house staff. The challenge came at the very end! I never order dessert - it most often cannot live up to the meal you had and very often becomes a disappointing end to the evening, and this was a prime example of exactly that. My wife ordered a Japanese cheesecake dessert and I ordered an affogato (one scoop of vanilla ice cream - and they had vanilla ice cream on the menu - with an espresso over the top of it) My espresso came, 15 minutes later our dessert game which was awful and then they came to tell me they had no vanilla ice cream, so they took my cold espresso away. Hmmm 🤨 Anyway, I can move beyond that and I asked for the bill, which didn’t come. So, I went to the front desk to pay and found our waiter there, chatting to a mate of his. I was presented with the bill by the receptionist, who sensed I was less than delighted and asked why I was not happy. I explained how our evening had ended and she was so understanding and empathetic but at that very moment, he manager (James) stepped in, grabbed the credit card machine, demanded my card, processed the payment, didn’t entertain any more lip from me and that was that. £500 for 4 of us. Not sure I will be back….

First time in my life having a sushi meal and it was AWESOME! One of the most wholesome meals I ever had in my life. Bento box with salmon is to die for. My only concern is I will be hooked up on this amazing food I will probably never be able to prepare for myself. Luckily, I have Chotto Matte to do it for me.

lovely restaurant with clever innovative food items and preparations. A sort of fusion, Japanese orientated menu but with a twist.the server was very helpful and guided us on our choices and they were excellent. Some expensive options but well worth it. I will be back.

Service was amazing, but food was good - but did not amaze me for the price point. Although an exceptional dish was the octopus. The atmosphere and decor was very nice and waters were well versed in the menu, ingredients and available offering. Cocktails were excellent.

We did the chef tasting menu. It was absolutely fantastic.

The food was pretty good and tasty the dessert was amazing the passion fruit creme brûlée, the soft crab sushi was poor and chewy. The atmosphere was pretty poor we were sat during a quite period and could hear two other tables conversations clearly and had to whisper to each other if we wanted to have a private chat which is pretty sad, asked the waiter to increase the music volume however she just said ok but did nothing. Overall a half decent experience

Went for a business dinner and the place was lovely. Nice vibe, friendly staff who were also efficient. And there were enough of them! The food was top notch, tasty and interesting ingredients. And the wine list was also varied and interesting too. Loved it for social or work.

Our friends suggested this restaurant after dining multiple times in the Soho location. Chotto Matte Marylebone is an intimate venue, soft lighting and cosy seating. It’s perfect for catching up with friends. All the staff were attentive and knowledgeable. The food is absolutely wonderful; beautifully presented and delicious. I would definitely recommend this spot for dinner.

After visiting the Soho branch, I decided to check out Chotto Matte in Marylebone, and I was equally impressed. The food at this branch was simply outstanding. From the vibrant and fresh sushi rolls to the perfectly cooked dishes from the robata grill, every bite was bursting with flavuors. The attention to detail in the presentation of each dish was remarkable, adding to the overall dining experience. The ambience was stylish and trendy, creating a vibrant atmosphere that enhanced the enjoyment of the meal. The staff were attentive and friendly, providing excellent service throughout the evening. Great customer service especially front reception!

This place is quite discrete to find. The entrance is through the revolving doors. You will get greeted at reception and given the opportunity to give your coat into a coat store for free. The toilets are nice but there is a staircase down to them (not sure if there is a life for disabled access) the food is really nice, even if you're not a fan of fish like me. There are "tasting menus" that also have wine pairings. Everything comes out as and when you need, although they might be a tad bit slow on the cocktails as the bar tenders get very busy

Beautiful presentations and the service was super good especially the guy called Dario-super friendly and helped us to choose our dish oh and the selections ow wine was just great! Today I and my friend visited Chotto Matte for the first time and we absolutely loved it! The food looked already amazing just from seeing it on others people table. We were welcomed by Dario who took a great care of us for the whole time while we have been there. He made our time in the restaurant very enjoyable as he is very funny and very knowledgable about the food and the drinks that are on their menu. Dario recommended us some dishes from starters to main and all the way to dessert. We went for most of his recommendations and there was not even one disappointment. The food was very well presented and tasted absolutely amazing too. Dario was also coming to check on us from time to time to make sure that we are happy and have everything that we need. I will definitely come back again and I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone for a great dinning experience. Thank you to Dario and Chotto Matte for giving such a great Sunday afternoon!

Great experience at the Chotto Matte. I went solo, and decide to get the nikkei sharing menue I with the wine pairing. The overall experience was great. In the details a few appreciation points : - the first starter is a real surprise and a true delight - the pairing sushi / sake is the best pairing of the whole menue. A true experience. - it is to be known that the sake does NOT match the following dish that is served without pairing - The mushroom salad, though really good, does not compare to the rest of the menue (I suppose it is because it is quite hard to get all the ingredient in a single bite) - Trust the sommelier. She's great at her job, great storyteller, and obviously knows what she's advising. Thank you again. I wouldn't hesitate to bring someone with me the next time I have the opportunity to come in London. You made me have a great evening even though I was alone at my table.

Nice atmosphere, nice decor. Crowd OK, not as sophisticated as Coya, Zuma or Rocca. Food not as good as Coya, Zuma or Rocca. However, some options were tasty. The grilled spicy chicken was excellent, so was the grilled beef, the octopus and the rice and tuna Tataki. Beautiful presentation and good sauces. The cocktails were top quality. Enjoyed the Amaretto Sour. Good service but not as perfect as Rocca or Coya. The spring rolls were a disappointment lacking in flavor, the gyoza was bland too. On the whole nice experience. Would visit again for drinks and a bite

The food was really good. We tried the sushi rolls, truffle tempura prawns, lamb chops (awesome!), ceviche, crab spring rolls and mochi ice cream. The only reason it’s 4 stars is the service - the waiter was always in a rush, didn’t bother to properly talk and explain anything or advise on what we should order.

Visit in Feb-2023 following a matinee. Reservation recommended. Service was rushed. Often trying to take our plates and drinks before being finished. I found this off putting. The food quality and presentation is excellent. Tho would skip the soft shell crab taco, not well balanced. Black cod, octopus, various sushi rolls are no regret orders. I would come back based on food, while front of house has a ways to improve to the same quality. 210£ for two with one drink each.

I am normally not fussy (especially when it comes to service; as long as the food is good) but it was way too expensive for what it was. We had the most expensive tasting menu (the items on the less expensive menus all contained some dishes that were off-putting making you want to order the more expensive menu). The flavours and quality of the food was nothing out of the ordinary unfortunately. There was also quite loud music playing (I don't know why restaurants insist on loud music. Don't people go to restaurants to talk anymore rather than shout?). The bill came as a bit of a shock; the service charge added on top was significantly higher than in other restaurants in London. Not planning going there again any time soon.

So far the best japanese restaurant in London I've tried, as a seafood lover and fan for sushi, it's such a lovely experience dining in chotto matte. The service is excellent, the way the dishes are presented just fantastic. Very good experience. Would definitely go again!!!

Food was excellent. It's a tad pricey but we all enjoyed it. Personally felt the dark lighting and music took away a bit but that might just be I am getting too old for that vibe. Went with a bunch of friends but think will be back for a date night with the wifey.

I'm lucky to have been used to fine dining for a while but I must say the experience here has been the best I had in London for some time. Chef Begonya Sanchez provided us with a culinary experience of the highest level. Not only were the dishes beautifully presented and in great harmony, every tiny bit of food was made to perfection. A huge thanks to Chef Sanchez and all the staff for a very memorable evening. Can't wait to return.

Went here for dinner with a friend. It was a weekend day and they weren’t too busy so we didn’t need a reservation which was great. The food itself is so good! Although they are small plates us two girls were so full by the end! Showstopper was the sushi though and the miso chicken was delicious. The staff were friendly. Make sure to try their sake - the sparkling sake was particularly good.

The food and service was great. Lukas who was our host was excellent. He took the time to explain the menu and made some excellent recommendations. They have Halal options so this made it even better for our dining experience. If you are looking for a date night then look no further. Must have dish is the Argentinian Red Prawn Truffles

Dimly lit with smart decor for either a date or a group of friends. It is a bit loud, so if you're planning on going - make sure you're prepared to shout a bit. I also probably wouldn't take kids here, the vibe felt like a bar where you could sit and eat. The food was tasty with inventive flavors. We got the crispy rice, ceviche, and octopus (not pictured). All of the menu looked amazing, but these were our favorites! The cocktails were unique. The ones we tried were aesthetically pleasing - great for Instagram. The flavors usually had some Asian twist, which gave a surprise flavor at each sip.

We had the reservation at 8pm till 10pm, at 9.15pm the waiter came to our table, we were having our dessert and he said to us he was sorry but we needed to leave the table now, I asked why, I said our table was till 10 pm, he said he was told we needed to leave. It was just horrible! We hadn't finished our dessert yet and he tried to get it, I said not to that. We stayed till 10pm, It was obvious it was a mistake but nobody came to us to apologise after that. Just horrible moment that killed the whole experience! Food was great and the atmosphere was very cool

La meva companya en aquesta experiència és vegetariana, així els hi vàrem fer saber i van adaptar la degustació especialment per ella (pocs restaurants ho han fet). A mig àpat, suposo que perquè fèiem moltes preguntes i també perquè vam comentar que som catalans, es va presentar la xef i responsable d'aquest plaer pels sentits, Begonya Sánchez, interessant-se per la nostra vetllada. Va ser una molt agradable sorpresa. Es va merèixer una reverència per part nostra, per la seva manera de tractar els ingredients i convertir-los en joies, i per la seva simpatia i tracte. Incloem a la sommelier, a la nostra cambrera aquella nit, thanks Joselyn, i a tot l'equip de cuina, a les felicitacions. En resum, tot perfecte, difícil de superar!!! Felicitats Chotto Matte, esperem tornar a gaudir amb vosaltres!!!!!! Només un petit comentari, una mica més de llum a les taules per poder veure millor les combinacions i presentacions dels plats potser seria interessant. Salut!

Nice place to dine thanks to the sttaf they looked after us.

The food was OK - 2 of us had the lunch menu, fine but nothing particularly exciting, padron peppers and crab taco the highlights. It’s a beautiful venue (although I prefered the old Fucina design which felt a lot more open and stylish) but was almost empty on Friday lunchtime so the atmosphere was very subdued. Most disappointing though was the service, front of house was very welcoming and some of the waiters we briefly interacted with were good but the lady who was responsible for our table was totally indifferent - we had to ask for things multiple times, she got our order wrong with no apology and then followed me out of the restaurant telling me I hadn’t paid when I had, told me she would go and check and come back and then when she realised she had made a mistake couldn’t be bothered to come and apologise. Great location but I’d stick with the Soho venue.

Our first visit to Chotto Marylebone. We are huge fans of Soho and this wonderful mini Chotto was superb. Having a wife who has allergies and intolerances the manager wrote a bespoke menu for her. Her words "I've had the best night and food ever !!!" The cocktails were out of this world, the food was all perfect sharing portions. The crab taco (sorry no photos they went too fast) were the highlight. The black cod was sublime and the dessert platter could not have been better. Service was amazing, super attentive and noting was an issue. Well done team at Chotto. Worth every penny for a great night out.

Amazing experience and fantastic service and food. With one exception the door man was absolutely rude and disrespectful. He was the buzz killer for our evening and our last night in London.. wish I had given 5 stars but he really made it a bad experience.
