Booked an early dinner which meant the restaurant was fairly quiet. The staff were all lovely and made sure our experience was top-notch. The food was superb (first time I've had a Chinese starter followed by an Indian main). Every dish was perfectly spiced with tender meat and the sides were fabulous. Massive car park, interesting decor. A really good night.

Our dining experience at The Viceroy was nothing short of exceptional! From the moment we walked in, my husband, son, and I were welcomed with warm hospitality that made us feel immediately at ease. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between cozy charm and refined elegance, ideal for a memorable family night out or a special occasion. The menu at The Viceroy is both expansive and carefully curated, featuring a range of authentic Indian dishes prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients. We were impressed by the variety of options, from rich, aromatic curries to lighter vegetarian dishes and flavorful sides, catering beautifully to all our tastes. My husband and I shared the Chef’s Signature Specials and were blown away by the depth of flavor and attention to detail. The balance of spices was impeccable, and each dish had its own unique character. Our son enjoyed his meal just as much, and the staff made sure he was taken care of with age-appropriate recommendations and friendly service. The service at The Viceroy was top-notch—attentive and genuinely warm, making us feel like honored guests without being intrusive. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and even offered a few thoughtful suggestions that turned out to be highlights of our meal. From start to finish, The Viceroy exceeded our expectations, providing an experience that was both delicious and memorable. We left feeling completely satisfied and eager to return. This place is a true gem, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for an outstanding Indian dining experience!

Fantastic takeaway again from Elaichi. The food is wonderful and the portions are generous. We've also really enjoyed our meals in the restaurant. We almost always choose one meat and one vegetarian option and I especially like the range of vegetables in the veggie options. The meat is also lovely and beautifully cooked.

If you are someone who appreciates authentic Indian cuisine, not just “curry dishes,” Dil Raj in Abingdon is likely to leave you disappointed. This review is for those who understand and expect true Indian flavours and quality, not generic offerings. The experience here was underwhelming across the board. The butter chicken, for example, lacked the richness and balance that defines this dish, tasting more like sour curd than a carefully prepared recipe. The chicken itself was of poor quality, seemingly reheated and lacking any freshness. The breads were another major letdown. A staple of any Indian meal, they should be soft, flavourful, and cooked to perfection. Instead, they arrived half-baked with a texture that suggested low-quality ingredients. Even the chef’s special dishes, supposedly the highlights of the menu, were unimpressive. They lacked the depth, complexity, and attention to detail that one would expect from a restaurant advertising itself as an Indian culinary experience. Finally, the rice dishes tasted microwaved rather than freshly prepared, further detracting from the overall meal. Freshly cooked rice is an essential element of Indian cuisine, and its absence here was glaring. If you’re looking for good-quality, authentic Indian food in the area, Dil Raj is unlikely to satisfy. The food lacks the authenticity and care that define Indian cuisine, leaving little reason to return. I hope this review helps those in search of truly great Indian dining options to avoid disappointment.
