Elaichi Restaurant in Vale of White Horse

So fed up with ordering a takeaway from here and then being kept waiting on collection, so putting myself at risk with other customers who have also been told the wrong time to collect. 40 minutes late is not on. Average food.

Because of Covid and restrictions, this was our first visit for 18 months to eat in the restaurant, much has changed but much thankfully remains the same, such as the warm friendly personal welcome from the Manager, who has a wonderful memory for names, and also the quality of the food, in terms of Quality Presentation and Quantity.The restaurant itself has had a major makeover, new decoration, totally different from previous schemes and certainly something which needs more than one trip to accept, I had visited previously to collect take aways so knew what it looked like, my wife hadn`t seen it before and was quite surprised. New furniture, crockery cutlery as well, the walls have various new pictures and photographs including one of a tiger which may be in homage to the wonderful illustration of a tiger which was on one wall for many yearsThe food is as I have said still of the previous very high quality, really good sized portions quality and taste for both of our favourite dishes and similarly with the accompaniments

I used to enjoy this restaurant, no complaints. But I have ordered two deliveries during lockdown for me and my mum. The first one we chased up after 2 hours, we were told the driver couldn’t find my address so it was just back at the restaurant, he eventually delivered but it was cold after all that time. Yesterday we were told it would be 1hr10mins, after 1hr40mins we rang and were told there was a slight delay, we got it eventually after 2hr10mins. We are vegetarians and ordered vegetable samosas, as soon as I started eating it I could see mince, my mum said she thought it was meat too. I emailed the restaurant asking if they used vegetarian mince and have had no reply, the waiting time, customer service and possible meat samosas mean I will never use them again. It’s totally unacceptable!

Ordered at 630pm for delivery, from 8pm we called to check on our order and repeatedly no answer on the phone line. At 930pm and still no answer on the phone I decided to drive to the restaurant and was told on entry "its just going to the kitchen now" Whilst sat in the restaurant, the phone line rang and rang and the lad behind the counter ignored it. no surprise we couldn't get through earlier. I waited another 30 mins inside and finally got my order, 3.5 hours after ordering, no refund, no money off and a lousy "sorry". Absolute joke!The food was barely hot too! Never ordering here again. Note for owners- forecast ahead, if you are overloaded don't take anymore orders!

First time having take away from this restaurant and we were not disappointed. I don’t leave reviews often but felt this was due as not only a Speedy delivery but the food was delicious, best Indian we have had in a long long time - will 100% be ordering again. Thank you!!

Once again and time after time I cannot fault this restaurant, after 6 months of closure they have refurbished the restaurant and replaced all of the furniture to make the place as safe as possible. The food in my opinion is of the highest quality around and served by the excellent staff who have all been there for some time.To Mr Miah and the team, long may you continue doing what your doing.

I find the quality of the food here really hit and miss. Last nights takeaway was definitely a miss. Average at best, and meat in both dishes hardly generous. Service was pretty poor too - collection was 35 minutes after stated time. In the current (Covid) times, we didn't really want to be hanging around with other customers who were equally delayed.

I absolutely love Elaichi, cannot fault this place at all! My family and I have been coming here for the past 5 years, and will continue to come here! The food is always delicious, fresh and immaculate. It is obvious the food is fresh and made daily. The staff there is so friendly and welcoming, especially the owner. He always makes a point to come and chat to us when we are in, making us feel like a part of the Elaichi family. They always give us complimentary food or drink every time we go! Hands down the best restaurant!

Had a couple of Ok takeaways here and ate in a year ago. Nothing special. Maybe the quality suffers when busy.So we decided on a last minute early evening midweek sit down to see what it was like and we were thoroughly impressed.Onion bhajia, first class Lamb sag, excellentSag Aloo greatTandoori mixed grill, excellent but the lamb a bit chewyPeshwari naan perfect.So a bit more juiciness on the lamb.Otherwise, great. Will certainly be back early doors midweek.

A sit in meal for 5 people, the only occupied table and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our requests to vary the number of starters was no problem, and the curries were very good: we had a mixture of Goan Salan, Green Massala, prawn and vegetarian choices - all extremely tasty. The service was unobtrusive but efficient - letting us get on with a get together. While the ambience was a little lacking (Tuesday evening - only sit in clients) it didn't detract from the overall very good experience we had.Would recommend.

First visit to this Restaurant. The Food and service were second to none - nothing was too much trouble. The Restaurant was so clean and spotless and richly deserves its 5 star hygiene rating. Can't wait for my next visit. They also do take aways.

We have always had a lovely meal at elaichi. They have recently added new dishes, including mixed fish. The food tastes really fresh and the service is really good. Good value too.

I’m a regular visitor to the Elaichi the food is always excellent whether it is a take away or if we sit in! The welcome is always second to none! I cant really fault this restaurant and would recommend this to any lover of Indian Food!!!!

We had booked her for my son's 40th birthday. There were 6 of us eating and we were in fact the only table occupied, it being a Tuesday evening and it had snowed that afternoon so people were staying indoors. Service was discrete but attentive which is not that easy when you are the only patrons. There were one or two take-away orders collected however.

We had a lovely family meal here, we often come here for get togethers. tasty food and lovely friendly staff, the owner is especially good with my children you can see he is a family man himself. Will be there again soon hopefully

Si te gusta la comida india preparado a un nivel muy alto, entonces no busque más que el Elaichi. No te decepcionará, la comida es deliciosa, y con una buena relación calidad-precio.

He tenido numerosos llevar desde aquí y, sobre todo, han sido muy buenos. No me puedo quejar del servicio (ya sea la entrega o colección), ya que el 99% del tiempo, rápido o incluso más temprano. Amable y servicial (si desea cambiar o añadir algo). Colocar pedidos en persona es muy bien, pero en el teléfono puede ser un poco difícil a veces.

This restaurant was one of the best Indian restaurants in Oxfordshire. What a shame it has fallen so far. The meal unfortunately was very disappointing from beginning to end. Soft Poppadoms with terrible accompaniments through to very poor quality main courses.

I love curry! It's my favourite food and so I tend to be fussy and will only eat a decent one. This place is not the best I have ever eaten but it is definitely right up there. The food is very well cooked and the flavours are amazing, if you like your curry to be one where you can taste the different spices (rather than just being ridiculously hot and burning your tastebuds so you can't taste anything) then you should try this place out. You will be met with a not so great welcome but after a dozen visits I get the impression that they are just humble, quiet and chilled ... maybe a little nervous but please don't let this put you off... give it a try.

The staff are all very warm and welcoming and very proficient.The ambience is warm , and the restaurant is very clean with pleasant decor .It has lovely big tables which are a decent distance apart.Our most recent visit was Saturday night 12th November and once again we were very impressed.Two tasty mixed starters ,two very flavoursome mains off the specials list ,excellent onion bhajee a hot fresh naan bread and some spinach rice all washed down with a couple of large Bangla beers and a very reasonable bottle of house white and a liqueur coffee to finish.All were excellent and the mains were a really good portion.The owner takes an interest in all his customers and is always around to ensure that your experience is a good one.I have also had take away from here which is also excellent.Our Bill was under £80 which I thought was good value given the quality of the food and the service.Top marks again!

It had been years since last been. I had a takeaway with friend. Generous portions. Very tasty. Spiced perfectly. Would definitely go again.

The best Indian restaurant by far. The staff are perfect hosts. The food is of a very high quality. From very mild to very hot. The flavours are incredible.Food is cooked fresh to order, whether you eat in or take away the quality is amazing. Love this restaurant, and very reasonably priced. Loads of choice.And the best bit of all, they will try to cook to your tastes, especially if you like it really hot.

My husband and I were the only customers when we went in at lunch time. I noticed The Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence as we went in. Unfortunately the waiter serving that lunch time made three mistakes including bringing me a chicken dinner when I specifically asked for vegetarian. It took the edge off my enjoyment.

Visited on a last minute whim in July. So glad we did! Food, service, welcome - everything was lovely! Great menu selection including usual standard curries and a good range of Bangladeshi dishes. Recommend the labjeez (I hope I've got that right!) - just delicious! We had a lamb and vegetarian version and both were incredible. We've returned a couple of times since and not been disappointed. Looking forward to heading back there again soon.

A lovely place to enjoy a good Indian meal. The staff are very warm and friendly and go out of their way to be helpful. It is a bit on the expensive side we found. Our bill was rather higher than we thought acceptable for a two course meal with only 3 soft drinks but non the less, it was good fresh cooked food.

Normally eat Indian after few drinks but visited on recommendation from work colleague and was not disappointed. Vast choice and freshly cooked to order will definately return

If you have any doubts about Indian food, then I suggest you try the Elaichi. We have tried many Indian resaurants but always return to Elaichi. The food is excellent, the ambience is just right and the service excellent.

I've been to this restaurant several years ago and decided to try it out again without disappointment. Excellent menu choice and if your unsure what to go for then they will guide you or prepare a meal for you.

Went for a meal last night with my partner and I have to say the food was excellent.I had the chicken Jalfrezi and my partner has the vegetable Balti.The food was as good as I can remember at this restaurant, the service was also first class, friendly but un intrusive. The place is spotlessly clean and all in all this was a first class experience. Highly recommended !!

We rang up on spec on a Saturday night and were able to get in for a meal. The restaurant is very nice inside and the staff are friendly and attentive.I had lamb momo to start followed by lamb podina with sag rice and kombi bhaja. Excellent meal washed down with a glass of Rioja.This is a great restaurant and takeaway.

Having been accustomed to good, no nonsense, wholesome and hardy food at restaurants previously, I was more inclined for the "cheap and cheerful" above the service and presentation of a "high end" dining experience.However, with the Elaichi, I get the best of both worlds! The food is absolutely awesome and I remember reading reviews where it had won several awards for top food in Oxfordshire and this little gem is on my doorstep! It is also plentiful when it arrives and I always end up full and satisfied with each visit. I have been several times now and have to say that I never want to visit anywhere else locally for Indian or Bangladeshi cuisine, as this is always the place to go if I want to treat someone to a wonderful experience. Abab and his team always make me (and anyone I am with) special. Abab always shows a genuine interest and always remembers anything I had discussed with him at a previous visit, which is always a good sign that you will receive genuine, fantastic service and I have never been disappointed.I will continue to go as often as I can and the prices are also extremely reasonable, especially considering the service, quality and quantity of food served. Don't tell Abab, but I would actually pay more!

Been ages since I bought a takeaway from the Elaichi, so decided to try it again for myself and my daughter and we were extremely disappointed. The naan breads were so chewy and only luke warm, not like the ones at Hanney Spice that melted in the mouth. My daughter didn't eat her chicken korma after a few mouthfuls as the sauce was not good and my salmon was not great either, but picked out the fish. The rest went in the bin - cost £27 not value for money and feel ripped off, don't bother!

Ni idea who" Pollyrock" is but simply cannot understand her recent review of a supposed take away she purchased here, we usually dine in but because of the lovely evening weather this week decided to buy a take away and enjoy it on the sun at home.Ordered on the phone 25 minutes later the meal was ready when promised and excellent it was too, Chicken Goan Solan and Chicken Khata Massala were our main choices with rice vegetables and Naan breadDelicious it all was and plenty of it as well, especially the number of pieces of chicken, almost too much for either of us to finish but we tried hard and every scrap was eatenExcellent take away, Elaichi, we have never been disappointed with any meals eaten in or now taken out in over 12 years as customers

It's a while since I had takeaway from this restaurant because the food was just a carton of sauce with one bit of chicken. I will go again but they need to up their hygiene rating from zero first!

Had dinner here recently, just seemed to be bland and uninspiring. Food is ok, but nothing special and not enough to draw us back any time soon. Wished we'd bought a good quality Indian ready meal from a supermarket as it would have been tastier and cheaper. In need of an all round revamp and to up their game generally.

We decided to have a takeaway on this visit and we were not disappointed again the food was excellent. The onion bhajis are so good from here. Abab is a really good host and although we do not live near here, he remembered us.

Booked a table for 4 for myself and friends last week. Staff were attentive and allowed for a relaxed atmosphere. Dishes were understated and tasty with good quality ingredients. Recommend the noy na chicken curry which was a very tasty. Our table’s bill came to £24 per head for a meal which was very filling. Overall, a very enjoyable evening and I intend to go back.

Having only loved in Wantage for a year we still rely on recommendations for local restaurants. I had been told that the food here was the best in the area and had also read several good reviews, so when my family and I ordered we were really looking forward to a nice meal. Unfortunately, all of our curries were lacking in any real flavour. The rice was good enough, but the meals were very disappointing. Not likely to return.

Food here is great. Good selection. Price is about average for the area. I would really recommend the Onion Bhaji's!Staff are polite and service was great when I visited. Tried many restaurants in the Wantage and Abingdon area and this one is my favorite.

Always excellent service with superb food to match. We really appreciate the time they take over helping us decide food options as my partner can't eat dairy products. They are very accommodating and we've had so many different dishes, with different levels of heat they make for us. Full of flavour, we tend to go for the non-traditional dishes. We will be back!

First visit. Service was speedy and very friendly. The food was very good but not exceptional. The jalfreizi was mind blowingly hot ( this did not bother me but it would some people ) and the sheek kebabs rather mushy.

The food in quantity and taste will take some beating.. The service is superb, everybody involved with this restaurant cannot do enough for you..The prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the food...will 100% be going back.. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough!!

We have just eaten the most amazing meal in such a wonderful place. The entire experience was exactly what I want from a good Indian restaurant.You are made to feel so welcome from the moment you arrive. We were given the choice of table and attended to without delay.We ordered the set menu B which allowed us to sample a delight of dishes. No-one would be allowed to leave this place hungry! The food was cooked to perfection and it was complimented with impeccable service.We will definitely be back and highly recommend to family and friends.

We visited the Elaichi with family who live nearby and really enjoyed our evening. The staff were exceptionally friendly whilst the decor, atmosphere and food were good. As it was a Saturday night the restaurant was busy and many people were collecting takeaways. As a result service was fairly slow but with all of us being of a generation who are happy to chat and have a laugh, rather than being glued to a tablet or phone, this was a positive. An evening out rather than a "food stop". The Elaichi is fairly expensive but the quality is good.

I cannot fault this restaurant. Manager and staff are so attentive, always on hand to help find a new yummy favourite dish. Good size portions of freshly made food. Also so helpful if you have dietary needs that need to be accommodated. We recently had a takeaway with a friend who was vegan. They were happy to try and find alternatives for her. Would recommend to all, good free parking outside. Just go try it for yourself.

Nice curry and nice staff - your average Indian but a bit more tasty! We've ben here several times over the years and its always the same. Not a bad thing!

This is good food served by friendly staff. There is a good choice - you really are spoilt for choice. There is plenty of parking and prices are fair. We alternate between here and the Hanney Spice.

I really wanted this to be amazing and i am so disappointed. We went on a Monday evening, there was no one else in the restaurant so we had the Chef's undivided attention. The decor and ambiance is lovely. The layout is fab and it's got a really good feel. The manager is simply delightful. The starter was really disappointing and at that point i gave it the benefit of the doubt. It was slightly greasy and not very good. The main courses arrived and were so poor. I love my curries. I love authentic and spicy Indian food. This was a world away from this. Everything was so greasy and either covered in Ghee or swam in Ghee. It was more akin to a spaghetti tomato sauce than a rich Balti. I really thought this going to be a great venue based on the reviews i read beforehand and i am somewhat taken aback. Personally i wouldn't return even if the food was free.

Been here quite a few times and the food is delicious. One of my favourite restaurants. I nearly always have the green lamb curry which is amazing.

Service excellent, food excellent, and although this is situated in a row of shops in Grove village, this has nice decor and the meal we had we could not fault, it was very good quality, tasty and portion was good for the selection we ordered for a couples meal. Very clean at our visit. Would recommend.

We hadn`t visited Elaichi for several months and were a little concerned by a couple of recent reviews on here but we didn`t have to worry, the meal was excellent, the service first class. Well done Abab and the team, we have visited Elaichi for nearly 15 years now and have never ever had a poor meal here, Well worth a visit and do not be put off by the setting, the food more than makes up for this

I thought this place was nicer to sit in than it looked like it would be from the outside, its a little posh but not too much so nice for an occaision or a bit of romance. I wasn't wowed by the food but it wasn't bad. Service was pleasant enough but it was a bit pricey, £4 for a coke!

Excellent food, and friendly service. Best Indian Restaurant in Wantage area. Not a salubrious area( ie is within a small shopping square) but don't be put off by this.

We usually either have a table or a take-away from this restaurant each time we visit our son, so have visited perhaps 10 times over about 7 years. Quite simply the food is always of good quality and the portions are generous.

Another delicious meal at the Elaichi. On a previous visit with family the manager took himself off to buy ingredients for a dessert which was not on the menu but a favourite with my aunt!We were looked after very well, 4 empty plates speakers volumes! Delicious food and plenty of it! The staff were so polite and attentive and really spoilt the birthday boy! We are from grove and have never visited before. We will be visiting again!! I was so impressed, thank you for a lovely evening. X

I ordered a take away for my family and my dad is highly allergic to pepers, however, they assured me there would not be any pepers. When we got the food it had them in it all. When we called they said we could have a discount off of our next meal. When we went into the restaurant to eat it was poor service (5 people came in after us to order a take away and got food before us, it took 40 after we finished our starter to come). The food was nasty and the worst indian I have ever had. The discount off of our meal we recieved was £4, which was an insult to be honest. I would recommend nobody go here and waist your money. After speaking to the manager he was very rude and defensive. He said my dad needes to come in, I was the one who ordered the food, so wondering if he wanted to test his allergy or something.

My wife and I have had the pleasure of both eating at The Elaichi as well as consuming far too many takeaways and we've been enjoying their food and friendliness since the late 90's when the restaurant was opened. We have recommended this restaurant to scores of friends, relatives and strangers over the years and have never had anything but positive comments from them when we have asked "what did you think"?We always count ourselves lucky to have such a consistently good Indian restaurant in our locale and are looking forward to another meal in the not too distant.Thanks Abab - you're "simply the best"............

The Elaichi is always our first choice for either a takeaway or for eating in the restaurant and it never lets us down. I had a meal the weekend before last in the restaurant and it was as usual first rate food with first rate service. I have tried many other Indian restaurants in the Wantage area, including Newbury and the Elaichi is my preferred choice.

Love going here to see Abab and the team, especially on a Scott Elvis night. The service is exemplary, the food is always presented very well and it's tasty too. Go along and try it. I am going again for my birthday this year with a whole bunch of friends and very much looking forward to it. A belated review for the excellent Elvis cabaret night on 28th September - superb entertainment from the wonderful "Scott" Elvis and as always a great feast of excellent Bangladeshi Quisine. I come back again and again plus my sons and friends love it. The food is sensational. My eldest rates the Lamb Rogon as the best he's tasted. Thanks again to Abab and his friendly staff.

I've lived in Grove since 2003 and every once in a while as a treat I have a take away from and occasionally a sit down meal with friends at the Elaichi in Millbrook Sq. I have never once been disappointed - the staff are always very kind and polite and the food has always been excellent and timely, with generous portions. I look forward to visiting again soon!

We celebrated my sons birthday here recently.Abab and his team had an exceptional service.We had a large party of friends and family and nothing was to much trouble. We had a fussy eater amongst our friends and Abab went out of his way to accommodate his needs.The food was as expected to the highest quality.We of course embarrassed our son by getting Abab to play the famous birthday track!The Elaichi is a superb restaurant and the team will go out of there way to make your evening a night to remember!

Elaichi is a fabulous Bangladeshi restaurant, Abab and his staff are very friendly and always give great service. Unable to understand why anyone would give this restaurant a bad review as we or friends have never had nothing but great meals and takeaways here. Abab is generous and kind and we often get treated with an extra dish free of charge at our table to trial for new ideas on the menu. And we are always given a free drink. Delicious meal yet again Abab on Saturday will be returning again next weekend!!!!!! And yes all the dishes are special so why would they want a specials board???

On our doorstep and used to serve up such fresh, inventive dishes.. We were served up a very standard 'meet in sticky thick, sweetened sauce' dishes. Very similar (but not as palatable) in both looks and taste as the ready meals from the supermarkets. The popadoms should have given us a clue as to what was going to get wheeled in our direction when they arrived with just some super fine, chopped onions and a couple of sticky, undefined sauces. All in all, good service, nice decor and piping hot food but void of quality ingredients or preparation and rubbed in with a high price. Be nice if they could raise their game but I get the feeling they are happy at this 'takeaway' quality of food??.... :(

Excellent tasty curry and a menu with a bit of a difference. The crab starter is delicious and my husband is a fan of the momo! The saag rice is very good too and the green masala is one of our favourite dishes. The staff are great, super friendly and helpful. Will be sure to return.

We were told this place was excellent,not in my opinion. Service poor and unhelpful, when my husband asked what the special was he was told.'whatever the chef is making" My husband then asked "well is it fish,chicken can you give me an idea?" The reply was "Yes all of them ".Drinks and food were expensive,food placed down on table .no service as such. Very disappointed.

Good tasty curry, just about spicy enough. Nice to be given a free drink at the end of the night too as we didn't really spend much.

You like Indian food but not so fond of chillies. Go for it !(Although the cuisine is from Bengladesh).

Very nice quality food and excellent presentation. A real sense of high quality ingredients and a passion for good cooking. A friendly environment and nice staff and easy to park.

I visited the elaichi on my birthday thought it was very enjoyable. The food was fantastic and was well presented. I felt like they treated me with that little bit extra, because it was my birthday. I would highly recommend the elaichi even if it's just for a takeaway as the food is delicious, however the dine in experience is not one to forget, with kind and helpful staff you won't be disappointed when you visit the elaichi.

For 16 years now this restaurant superbly managed by Abab Mih has been offering the best Indian food in the area by a mile and I was so pleased to be able to join the recent birthday celebrations, excellent food and a packed restaurant, says it all really, Best By Far.Don`t believe the nonsense posted about a mobile phone this is just a competitior trying to deflate the sucess of Eleaichi and it is not the first time this has been doneIf you are in the Wantage area call in you will not be disappointed

Really good food, really good value. whether you eat in or take away, Elaichi has never disappointed. Some things on the menu you do not normally see, which is good. The spices are nice, flavours are very good.Recommended.
