The White Elephant Kitchen did a pop-up at the Shiny Tap, we had the best of everything, good ale and good food, what more do you want on a Friday evening.

The lady on reception was so warm & welcoming & had the biggest smile on her face! We ordered an online takeaway, so visited to pick up our meal. Online ordering was straightforward, checkout safe & secure & waiting time for our meal was acceptable. We ordered Lamb Rogan Josh, Lamb Korma, both with Pilau Rice, Garlic & Butter Naans. Good size portions, hot, flavoursome, meat tender, as was the rice. Naan breads were deliciously moist & moreish. All, great value for money! We are hoping to revisit but to eat in the restaurant as the food was so good & the staff so welcoming & friendly. There were customers with children eating in & by the laughter heard, clearly they appeared to be having a positive experirnce. We will definitely recommend this establishment to friends & family!

A Half-Kilo Revelation: An Ode to Karahi Excellence In a setting where one’s culinary expectations might ordinarily remain modest, I was met — quite unexpectedly — with a dish of striking authenticity and quiet brilliance: half a kilogram of traditional Pakistani karahi, served unadorned, without rice or sides, and yet utterly self-sufficient. The meat was masterfully cooked — tender, richly infused with the bold aromatics of garlic, tomato, and green chilli, and nestled in a sauce that clung to the pan with the confident reduction of patient, practiced hands. This was not food hurriedly made; it was food remembered — a faithful rendering of tradition, served with purpose and pride. What elevated the experience beyond mere satisfaction was the service — gracious, attentive, and instinctively generous. Without prompting or charge, I was offered complimentary poppadums, a gesture that, while small, spoke volumes. It suggested not simply hospitality, but a philosophy: that food is to be shared, and excellence delivered without ostentation. That such a meal should be found tucked away in this corner of the city is a quiet triumph — a reminder that great cuisine does not announce itself with fanfare, but waits patiently to be discovered by those who still know how to notice. A richly deserved five stars.

Me and my work colleagues came here today for an retirement celebration. There were 16 of us...I believe? Anyway a big table. Service was fantastic! I am so sorry, I didn't take names. But there was an amazing guy who took our food orders.. and then there a was a young guy, who got us drinks and looked after us. The interaction with the table was great. And the food came out quickly, hot and correct. Nothing was too much trouble. We forgot to order a dish and it was ordered and came quickly. Honestly, the best service I've had in a long time..again..so sorry I didn't take your names! There was also a singer in there, everything was perfect, tasty , relaxing and just a great retirement celebration for a very special work colleague of ours x thanks again xx

Our second time here and it was just as good as the first. We had onion bhajis and mirch wali fish to start, the fish was gorgeous. For mains we shared lamb khumbhara, chicken khagani with mushroom rice and a garlic naan. The staff are lovely the food is great and they have some lovely pictures on the walls, what’s not to love! We’ll be back next month when we’re in Derby to see another band.
