The best restaurants serving Indian food in England

A good madras, or vindaloo usually has a certain look, as do naan breads. I opened the food and was faced with a Vindaloo that didn't look great and a naan bread that looked flat and lifeless. Someone treated me to the meal and I thought oh no, I'll have to force this down now to not look rude. It was actually really good. The naan looked really small in the bag but was actually pretty big once I unwrapped it and had loads of flavour. The curry was lovely. It was slightly towards the hotter end of Vindaloo heat but the flavour was good and it's impossible to eat a curry that hot if it's not nice. I literally had every last drop of sauce. It was really nice. Rice was just plain basmati and was cooked spot on. The guy serving was really friendly in shop and had very good English, making the call to order very easy. Great place, would definitely use again and a fair price too.

Excellent grill and dhansak sauce was top notch. Excellent meal as always!!!!!

Takeaway ordered absolutley terrible ! nan bread very dry and prawn karahi was disgusting to hot and not a prawn insight ? rang to complain staff very rude and said no refunds not bothered one bit! 40pd down the drain dont waste your money folks . I never complain but it was terrible .

Too inconsistent, quality of food at times is poor? Having to add extra charges to obtain order is a joke! This place has gone downhill this year, and won’t be ordering again, quality matters.

I don't normally write reviews but I’ve got to say this, the whole concept work on so many levels. , very authentic and tastes delicious Amazing food, the flavours were the best fresh ingredients are used and you can tell a lot of pride and passion has gone into each dish Pretty impressed I'd recommend THE RAJ at Maldon to anyone to try, you will not be disappointed or hungry!!! One of the curry and all sort of Indian food I’ve ever tasted . My whole family and I love their food and we’ve been a customers for many years as well as most of my mate . Just to mention that all food are cooked freshly by a decent respectful family as they do cook from heart. You feel like you eat at home and what a great amazing customer service if I could give more that five stars trust me I would . Thank you to THE RAJ AT MALDON & everyone at this lovely restaurant specially to the MUM AND DAD for the best food I've had in a long, long time! Most definitely the worst Indian food I've ever had. I had 2 bites before throwing it in the bin. It was basically scraps of dry chicken thighs with a bland generic curry sauce chucked over it, not my idea of a tandoori chicken dansak at all. Truly shocking! My wife's CTM was equally disgusting. Avoid this place, they insult good Indian cooking and should close down and do something else for a living

The food was very tasty. Such a shame it took 1 hour 20 minutes to be delivered and when it arrived one of the dishes was missing. We were told the missing dish would come in 20 minutes but after 50 minutes and two calls to the restaurant it still didn't arrive. This was our first time trying this restaurant and it's a real shame as the food was really nice, but the service was not.

Brilliant kebab sweet chilli sauce was nice , the donner meat was spot on and the bread and vegetables were nice and soft .

First take out tonight! Brilliant customer service! Brilliant food! Was delicious! Highly recommend!

A beautiful place with a very calm atmosphere. We had an amazing dining in experience. Food was served well in time and it had authentic Indian taste. Very similar to what we get back at home in Delhi. Staff is very friendly and makes you feel welcome. We were served by Mr. Melbourne and Mr. Ruturaj who both are very good at what they do. They were well dressed and accommodated all our requests with a smile on their face. Mr. Robert, who was managing the place, made the special effort to enquire about the food and our experience. So, all in all we loved the place and are definitely going back soon.

Good service and indian type food available

We have ordered from here before and the food was ok . Tonight the food wasn’t good at all Cheap fatty chicken and lamb pretty tasteless. Couldn’t even get the poppadoms right (soft and burnt ) Reheated I suspect . Complete waste of money

We attended in a large group which can obviously be a strenuous task for restaurants. We booked well ahead of time and there was no preparations in place to make sure our dinner went smoothly. Staff could not keep track of what we were drinking and most of the time forgot about our orders for drinks. I ordered a drink around 30 minutes before my food came and I had to go up to the bar myself after I’d finished to have my drink seeing it was just sat there doing nothing. The toilets were appalling and were reminiscent of the toilets you’d find in a dingy club, feces smeared on the toilet and urine everywhere. We were given ‘complimentary’ popadoms which were added to the bill which ended up being put on the bill for £20 which is extortionate for 4 sets of popadoms. We had one member of the party who received his food after everyone else had already eaten only to find out he was given the wrong dish and was told he could have his correct meal ready in 2 minutes which is what he was told an hour before when we all received our food. This lovely experience was complimented by dirty looks from the staff which I’m surprised we weren’t charged for on top of everything. I would hope we caught this restaurant on a bad day but I will never be giving my money to this establishment again.
