Zumbura in Lambeth

Zumbura is an excellent fusion Indian in Clapham Old Town, close to Clapham Common. The menu is great with lots of choice and some unique dishes. The restaurant has a good set-up with a very nice bar. All this and the prices are very good also. Go visit!

Visited this little gem in pleasant Clapham Old Town (5 minutes walk approximately from Clapham Common tube on Northern line), in a group of nine for our traditional Xmas curry. Pleasant and efficient service with a unique selection of Indian themed cocktails & mocktails e.g. "Indian Mule", "Bloody Spicy Mary" and one with turmeric infused gin to name a few. Also offer an electric selection of beers - conventional Cobra / Kingfisher plus rarer Indian IPAs and a nice Morrocan beer, "Casablanca". We ate from the set menu which was a mixture of veg and non-veg: Papads, lamb chops, onion bhaji, chicken tikka as starters. Mains were Lambs Railway curry, Murgh (chicken) masala, Sag panner, tarka daal and cumin potatoes. Couldn't fit in dessert but saw another table devouring Kulfi ice cream on a stick. Would definitely revisit, trekking from NW London where we are spoilt for choice with authentic Indian establishments. Only reason I have given a 4 and not 5 rating is that I feel that more spice could have been used e.g. with the lamb chops which nevertheless were lean and tender.

My daughter raves about this restaurant. Our experience this evening was not what we hoped for. The service was first class. The food was horrendous, so salty, unable to eat it. I did complain, nothing was said, no apology, which surprised me. Will not go again.

Travelling to London to meet up with my son in Clapham I googled Indian restaurants and despite the mixed reviews I decided to book. Wow, I am so pleased I did. The restaurant is quite small - only about 34 covers and some of the tables are quite close - however, the atmosphere, service and quality of food make eating here a delight. The decor is lovely, the ambient lighting just right, the background music is great and the service is attentive but not overbearing. But the main reason to come here is the food! It is sensational and a different take on your usual Indian restaurant. Having read the reports about small portions we decided to have 3 shared starters plus the poppadums which were immediately brought to the table. We chose 4 pieces of each sharing plate so we could have two each. The marsala calamari melted in the mouth and were served with some delicious dips while the lamb samosas and chicken pieces were also succulent and bursting with flavour. It was pleasing that each sharing plate came one at a time to ensure that each was eaten freshly served and hot. For main courses we opted for a delicious chilli lamb and kauai chicken with chapati and an aubergine side. The lamb was fiery and tender while the kauai chicken was also a joy. Each dish just shouted first class ingredients and loving preparation. My son had two beers and i had two glasses of Tempranillo which was also good. The whole lot came to £86 including service which I thought was excellent value for money given the quality of food and does not support the comments on TA that it is overpriced. I would return here in a heart beat! The only slight criticism I have (being a bit of a wine snob!) is that the wine glasses are not fit for purpose. Small cut glass wine glasses which are filled to the brim are a thing of the past and do not do the wine any justice. A nice slender thin glass one with a large bowl would work much better. However, all things considered a fantastic experience. Thank you for a memorable dinner.

What a little gem. We stumbled upon this place as a couple of vegans. The host was so friendly and helpful and the waitress was kind, chatty without being overbearing and efficient. The food was delicious and portion sizes were ample, even for the two of us who eat a lot! Reasonably priced for 3 starters, 2 mains, rice and bread at £31 including service! Can’t wait to go back again

Staff were attentive and never let us go without a drink top up! As an Indian tapas bar portions are small but packed with flavour, so mix and match with your party. The grilled chicken, melts in your mouth and honestly we could have had 5 mire plates and cancelled the mains, we have not stopped thinking about it since. As a local independent restaurant in Clapham, I recommend taking a trip for a nice relaxed dinner, we will be going back!

For the price we paid, we just did not feel we could give this restaurant five stars, considering we were contemplating going somewhere for more food. The food was good quality don’t get me wrong. I wouldn’t deter anyone from visiting, but I just feel portion size needs to be bigger, unless I’m just greedy?

Meal was great but I ordered a Korma that has absolutely no honey/sugar in it and was definitely not creamy enough. I'm south Indian and I was a little underwhelmed. Amazing service though! Nice cocktails too!

Good quality food and cooked well, but portions are fairly small. Considering the prices and the 12.5% service charge, the service really didn’t suffice, and was left feeling slightly ripped off, when I compare this to some of the other Indian restaurants in and around the area.

First impressions the place looked very small. The waitress who greeted us came across quite abrupt. The gentleman who showed us to the table was very nice. The table was too close to the people next to us which felt like we was on a date with them too. They took a long time to even ask us if we would like a drink, so long that we had to call them over. The same lady who greeted us knocked off one of our forks to which I saw her pick up and said she would bring me another one but I saw her bring back the same fork. The food was very nice that we ordered but small portions and quite expensive for what they was.

THis restaurant is in a nice part of Clapham. We were greeted with a warm welcome on arrival and shown to a table (where there are handy hooks to hang bags on). It's a small menu and doesn't have the usual Indian dishes so it makes a nice change. The portions are small so we needed 3 starters, 4 main courses, 2 sides and 2 portions of rice between 3 people. We had 2 beers and a bottle of sparkling water and this came to £100. I'd certainly recommend the lamb samosas and the lamb curry.

just now Went for X mas party with my ⚽️ lot last night . There was 8 off us in total & we found the service to be great. The lamb chops & rail way lamb curry was very tasty. My only pet hate was when the starter or main came along they did not bring it altogether. So that every body could eat at the same time. I would definitely go back there again.

This is the kind of Indian food we really like - freshly made and you can taste all the spices. No drab kurmas here. The decor was gorgeous with a beautiful wall paper on the ceiling. Staff very friendly and helpful. It was a tad on the expensive side, but as a treat, we really enjoyed it.

Great restaurant, yummy food, great service!

My husband and I are obsessed with Zumbura - the food is top-notch and the service is always awesome! We have been coming here for about 2 years - we always order beers and multiple courses and come out at about £50 for two of us. Cannot recommend Zumbura highly enough - our favourite restaurant in Clapham by far.

La atención de 10 y la comida muy buena en especial el samosa lamb que pedimos dos raciones! Un sitio muy recomendable con una decoracion agradable junto con el ambiente.

Mostly nice food but TINY portions. The tiger prawns are ridiculously expensive for what you get. Overall nothing overly special.

3 of us were in Clapham and decided to try this place.It wasn't busy on a Friday night which should have been a sign.The food was bland and the waitress completely oblivious on how to be a waitress!Then the bill... £50 a head.Never again

Wow such an amazing eclectic mix of Indian food! All flavours on point met raju the chef what a lovely guy. Finally it cant be complete without Bogdan the cocktail maestro best espresso martini this side of the river!

Zumbura is a modern Indian restaurant. It has a nice setting in Clapham Old Town, friendly and informal service and lovely food. The menu is not all that extensive, but what they do they do well, using real spices and not at all greasy. The menu didn't offer a guide to spicy hotness - but it is attuned to the British palate. One of our four dishes was medium, the rest mild. Portions aren't over-sized.

This is a nice small restaurant set in a quaint and pretty area, the pub next door is a bit noisy but everyone was friendly. The food is very tasty, it was served in good time and was hot. Be warned this is a tapas place so the sizes are very small - we ordered ten dishes between three of us and the waiter obviously thought this wasn't enough and really he was right, we certainly weren't full up. Considering a lot of the dishes are around £10+ it is not a cheap meal. The wine was good but the beers are a small size for around £5. If you are looking for a light meal before going on somewhere else, or you can afford at least five dishes each, then it is worth going to. We certainly couldn't fault the cooking.

Fabulous food and cocktails but service standards need to improve. Honestly the staff seemed to be walking around in a daze. We had to ask to order drinks, water, food, everything! The staff just stood around doing nothing until they were asked.

We were so well looked after at Zumbura and I’m hopeful you will be too. Raju put so much care and effort into the food which everyone loved. He took particular care for me who has food intolerances. The two lovely staff, whose names I never sadly caught, made such a concerted effort to make us all feel at ease and so well looked after. We all loved it and hope you will too.

Really enjoyed this pre theatre trip. The chef certainly knows how to cook with spices. Food really tasty and well presented - has the sense of South Indian home cooming. Would love to come here again with more time to sample other dishes. Lucky locals!

This place is a little different from your run of the mill Indian restaurant. We enjoyed the experience immensely and will be back. The food was excellent in general with only the Biryani slightly off mark due to too much cardamom. But this is a minor issue. The rest of the food was really outstanding and the service exemplary. Well worth a visit.

Went for a catch-up with a friend. Ordered 4 dishes to share, planning for more, but the portion sizes were generous enough that we filled up quicker than planned. Food tasted great, we both had 2/4 dishes that we preferred (alternate dishes for each other). Had a decent selection of meat and veggie options to suit both tastes. Cocktails were nice and bar staff were able to make a drink at our request which was really great.

En febrero tuve el privilegio de probar este pequeño restaurante ubicado en Clapham Old Town. ¡Qué delicia! La comida aquí se hace sin usar crema o mantequilla, lo que hace una gran diferencia en cómo se siente después de la comida. Por primera vez después de un curry, no estaba hinchado ni incómodo. ¡Este es definitivamente el camino a seguir! Good food from former Benares chef

Nuestra comida aquí el 3/21 fue mi primera comida india en Gran Bretaña y me encantó. Puede que esto no parezca mucho, pero he tenido varias comidas poco satisfactorias en los lugares de los EE. UU., Por lo que es enorme para mí que la comida de Zumbura fuera tan buena. Teníamos samosas, cordero, curry, murgh masala, naan y arroces. Uno era mejor que el otro. This is an interesting Indian restaurant with a lower chili count than some and more different levels of flavour. The Railway lamb curry and aubergine were wonderful but the biryani was a little disappointing (too much rose and the chicken was dry.

Me mudé a Clapham unos meses y tardé un rato en intentar este lugar, pero me alegro de haberlo encontrado con mi madre. Un lugar relativamente pequeño pero bien decorado y cómodo. La comida estaba bien condimentada, especialmente las samosas que estaban bien rellenas y recién fritas y la berenjena. El daal fue excelente también! El servicio fue puntual y el personal hizo lo imposible para asegurarse de que nos lo pasamos de maravilla. Sabiendo que solo teníamos 2 y que algunos de los entrantes llegaron en 3 s, ajustaron rápidamente los platos para facilitar su uso. ¡Recomendaría!

This is the second time I have been to Zumbura and it was just as good as the first time. The food is amazing and the service is speedy and efficient. The staff are friendly and helpful and it makes for an enjoyable dining experience. I love the idea of the sharing plates as you get to try more things on the menu this way. Zumbura is one of Claphams many hidden gems and I would recommend it to anyone who would like an authentic Indian experience.

Interesting concept, Indian cuisine tapas. A restricted menu but everything very tasty and fresh. Wait staff eager to please. No WiFi.

Our night out at Zumbura was great. Its a quirky little restaurant with a great ambience. We reserved a table and although it wasn't ready when we arrived, the staff couldn't have been more apologetic and even gave us all a drink on the house by way of apology. The food was amazing, our whole party are quite fussy but we enjoyed every dish. Some of the portions come with three pieces and they allow you to upgrade to suit your group. Great little hidden gem. We will definitely return.

We were recommended to this restaurant which was described to us as like an Indian version of a tapas bar. It is relatively small and quite noisy but very busy and clearly popular. Apparently the owner trained the chefs himself and makes a point of not using butter or cream in any of his dishes. During our visit he was acting as Maitre d'.

Lovely small restaurant with delicious food cooked on site. Friendly and attentive waitresses and other staff. We will keep coming back !

Been many times and always enjoy the food and cocktails

Relaxed atmosphere, I am not keen on very spicy Indian food, or at least it is not keen on me. But I love that Zumbura offer the healthy version without butter and cream, favourite dishes, the Chicken 36 and Ghuggni and my husband loved the signature dish of Lamb Cutlets. One of our party was vegan and gluten free and he was more than happy with his meal. I gave the service 4 stars, it was very good , the staff were friendly and knowledgable, but at times we felt rushed especially when we arrived to get our drinks and food orders in. Other than that we had a great night, definitely coming back.

Visited as a couple on a Friday night. Upon arrival we were advised to order three dishes per person. As my partner and I have different tastes, we ordered separate dishes with no intention of sharing.

The menu had expanded since my last visit and did not disappoint. Some delicious new additions.

We booked in advance knowing it is a small restaurant. Unfortunately we were running at least 30 minutes late. I called the restaurant and they were kind enough to hold our table. The restaurant has a cosy and very buzz atmosphere and was very busy so it did take a while to order. Needless to say, the service was friendly and they recommended a great range of dishes for us to try. The food was delicious; our favourite being the Paneer curry. I would definitely come here again.

Valió la pena viajar tan lejos para disfrutar de una comida y de la experiencia de comida y cócteles fue mágica. Excelente personal y servicio rápido, especialmente los viernes por la noche y ya estaba lleno con los clientes.

Este acogedor restaurante a 2 minutos a pie de Clapham Common es una verdadera joya. La comida india es variada y cocinado sin mantequilla o crema. El personal es muy amable y acogedor. Tuvimos un gran surtido de entrantes, a cada cual más suculenta que la otra. Los calamares y pakoras son especialmente buenos. A group of us went there after seeing a play at the nearby theatre and we went for a set meal number three which cost £25 per head. They brought on a series of small dishes one after the other. They were all very good and tasty and we all thought we would be very happy to go there again.

Very disappointing Saturday night curry. Arrived on time but every dish was poor other than onion bahji and rice. The naan was pre-made and the 'chipati' was clearly supermarket grade tortilla. And not even cheap. Shame.

Visited Zumbara after a recommendation, so glad I did! Cosy atmosphere, fantastic food with so much flavour and a brilliant cocktail list! We had such a great evening, and will definitely be back.

Had my 25th in this restaurant and it was fantastic. Highly recommended restaurant for any occasion! The food was quick and tasty and the service was spot on. All in all amazing experience!

I am afraid this restaurant is nothing special. The space is really small and you can barely move (plus it will be a challenge if you want to reach the toilet). Staff was friendly but the service was really slow. The main problem is the food, it tastes like frozen pre-packed Indian food. Not recommended.

Food was good however the portion for price is out of proportion. It's rather pricy to be as 'tapas' settings. We had 2 main dish, 1 side dish, briani rice, nan basket and 2 beers, which priced £53. I would probably not visit again since the price did not reflect the holistic experience overall.

This place is second to none. South Asian food with a twist. The decor in exquisite, with copper touches and incredible crockery - I want it all in my home. The bar is made from one entire piece of wood and it's impressive.

I really did enjoy my meal at Zumbura. The lamb chops were amazing, the daal was cooked really well and the Negroni tasted perfect.

I came here for a New Year's Eve meal with 4 friends and it honestly was the best Indian food each of us had ever tasted! 100% will be visiting again!
