This is a great neighbourhood restaurant, I use it a lot for both dine in and take aways. The staff are very friendly, happy to offer advice and will get the chef to tailor dishes to your preferences.

We arrived at this Resturant at about 1.45 to be met by a member of staff who stated we close at two. Having been a visitor of this Resturant for over 30 years I pointed out that usually last orders were at two I find the day time staff quite objectionable in this regard unlike the staff in the evening who are extremely personable and very polite This Resturant is often empty during the lunch period……. I wonder why

Wha can I say? We have been coming here regularly for over 10 years now. We always leave a good tip but have never once been offered a drink on the house or anything. This Friday went with family and I can honestly we will never go back again. I ordered tandoori chicken and couldn’t believe it when I cut into it ,it was raw! I sent it back but waited so long that everyone else had finished their mains and to be honest I was totally put off when the next plate arrived. When it came to the bill we questioned why they had not compensated for this raw chicken but the said they would take off two poppadoms! £2! After some heated conversation they very very reluctantly took the cost of the chicken off the bill but were quite rude . So disappointed after all our years of loyal custom. We will definitely not return ever! Such an awful experience and made to feel very uncomfortable.

We’ve been coming here for 30 years. It’s the best Indian restaurant in the area and even further afield. It has a lovely relaxed ambience, superb food and great service.

The 3 of us only went because we walked up to Qissa & it was closed, so i said lets give it a go having eaten there once before about 5 yrs ago. We walked in & i found the staff Dour to say the least. Our waiter seemed slighty put out when we declined the Poppadoms & he immediately started clearing the side plates away before we'd even really had the chance to sit down properly. Sitting there chatting i noticed something on my wifes fork. Inspecting it i saw is was the residue from a previous meal. This was Very early on ( around 6.30 ) so i'm guessing that we were the 1st sitting at this table, so the fork must've been from the day before perhaps????? & had somehow found its way back on to the table without making it to the dishwasher. I pointed this fact out to the waiter who in turn mumbled something to another waiter who took it away & came back with a different clean fork ( i hope ), there was nothing in the way of an " Oh i apologise for that mishap. 2 of us ordered Lamb Vindaloo & the 3rd a Chicken Madras. The Vindaloo was 1/2 decent & the sauce to the Madras was good too, though the chicken was a tad dry & tough. On the whole the Taj was ok at best But the Staff do need a lesson in Meet & Greet. It's a shame because its not a bad looking, nicely laid out restaurant. But having The Exceptional Qissa a 5 minute walk away we Won't be going back. But their Bindi was very nice indeed, so Well Done there To be Totally Honest my Vindaloo was No better than the lovely Aldi Vindaloo i pay £2.49 for. Sorry but this is an Honest review of our experience.

Always great service here. Food is always up to a good standard been to a few Indians and this one is the one I always try to go to and the quality of the takeaways are also worth it.

First visit in over 5 months, as always ordered a takeaway for my partner and myself, although the price has risen very slightly, im pleased to say the quality of the food has remained excellent. Very happy !!!

Visited The Taj Tandoori for a Christmas Eve curry. The food was excellent and delicious and all staff were attentive and efficient. We had a wonderful evening in a great atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit I highly recommend The Taj Tandoori ten out of ten for everything.

The food is Always fantastic but I do fell that we are always rushed and you’re trying to eat your starter and wanting to know your main meal already ! Please leave customers to eat in peace and stop the hovering it’s very annoying. But all over the food is always amazing

The Taj Tandoori, based in Sevenoaks, is a fantastic restaurant to dine at. The food is cooked to perfection, and whatever extras to request, they deliver with a smile. The staff, once you start to eat, never bother you by asking if everything is OK. When you have a mouth full of food, they just let you enjoy. An empty plate is all they wish to see, that shows you have enjoyed to meal. Thank you again for making my dining experience an enjoyable one.....xxxx Gerry

I collected a takeaway last Saturday evening. On time, but cold food and the lamb tikka was tough as anything and hadn't been marinaded in yogurt and spices. It just had some spice thrown on the outside and then cooked to death. Definitely will never use them again

We have lived in Dunton Green for 7 years and went to the Taj for the first time tonight. We had a wonderful evening, the service is flawless and so very attentive. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff clearly take a lot of pride in their jobs and the restaurant and that makes such a difference. Really impressed with everything about this place and will definitely go back.

This was our favourite Indian restaurant in the area before we moved 20 years ago. We have visited a number of times since and again recently. What has happened to the food? The restaurant was very clean, nicely decorated and ventilated with a good atmosphere. The staff were friendly, but far to many of them walking round in a predatory manor pushing drinks as soon as glasses were empty. Our starters were OK, the vegetable samosa was tough while the meat one had no flavour. The onion bhaji was good but very oily. Unfortunately mains were a big disappointment. The butter chicken was tasteless while other mains were tough and warm. Suddenly there were no waiters to talk to when we needed one. We decided to just pay the bill but it took ages for a waiter to come to the table, the restaurant wasn't busy. I mentioned the disappointing mains, the waiter wasn't concerned and didn't offer a reduction. This restaurant is now 40 miles from where we live, we won't be coming back!

My partner and i decided to have a sit in meal for the first time, the guys managed to fit us in at short notice which was good, the restaurant was very busy, we had starters + our usual Taj special curry with alterations. As ever the food was excellent, service also good, it was a nice place to be! price was very reasonable, so all in all was a very enjoyable evening, We done to the Taj.

Visited again last weekend 10/6/23, yet again another great takeaway, we both had the Taj Special Curry with adjustments. The kitchen are great, they will alter the dish to your requirements without any problems at all. we really miss food from here since we moved out of the area, its a shame they dont do delivery as we would make regular orders and we are only in Eynsford.

Great value indian, with lovely food and atmosphere

2023 update: The Taj is as good as ever. 2020: I've eaten at them all and the Taj is the best curry house in the Sevenoaks region, without doubt and I'm not alone. This place has 150 covers but don't try walking in off the street on a Saturday. The take-away section is also very busy and sometimes it can take longer than stated - usually due to the amount of cooking taking place.

Awful. Uninspiring food cooked badly. Poor service. 3 dishes sent back as served cold. Had to ask 3 times for a round of drinks. The kind of place where you get as many large chunks of potato in your main course as you do chicken (just 3 pieces of chicken in mine). Quite pricey for such poor quality. All 8 people dining felt the same. 8 customers who will not be going back

I've driven past the Taj maybe 6 million times, never ever thought to go in because there's a very good Indian restaurant at the end of my road. But on Mother's Day it was fully booked so we took a chance on the Taj. And now I have a real dilemma. The food was subtly different from my "local" which made selecting dishes more interesting. And what a fabulous range of food we were served. We ate every single bit of every dish. I don't think that's every happened before. I strongly suggest you give the Taj a try.

Badly organised. When we visited it was around 50% full. Plenty of empty tables yet it took 10mins and 3 staff to find us a table (we had booked) Lots of staff but no service. This place is all about keeping the take away orders happy, with no consideration for seated guests. Popadoms and drinks were quick but then it took 20 mins to take our order and another 25 mins for the starters to come out. 1. King prawn purée was very good. 2. Kebabs were very dry. It then took a staggering 45+min for our main course. As we had a view of the kitchen door there was an average of 10-12 takeaway orders coming out for every 1 seated order (all about the takeaways) After telling who appeared to be a manger we were leaving our food came out. 1. Garlic chicken very well cooked and seasoned 2. Chicken vindaloo, terrible all you could taste was curry powder this was awful. 3.Okra overcooked Food was almost like there was 2 chefs cooking each course! One that could cook and one that couldn’t!! But overall the service levels in this restaurant are appalling. It’s a takeaway with some tables and chairs! Restaurant appeared clean but is very dated and could do with some modernisation. Would not return.

Best Naan I’ve ever tasted and the most divine tandoori king prawn masala. My friends were equally delighted with their meals. The restaurant was full, which is always a good sign and the waiters were incredibly welcoming, friendly and efficient. I couldn’t fault this restaurant.

Been going here for years and it can't be faulted! Consistently tasty and great quality food. Daughter has food allergies and is always looked after well. We love it here!!

Heard really good things about this place but sadly the food was really disappointing. Curries all tasted like they came from jars of sauce. The service was good though and it was really busy on a Friday night which created a good (but loud) environment.

Good food, but forgot part of the order

I have been using this restaurant since the early ninetys in this time there has only been 2 owners and the food quality in my mind has always been excellent. This is the only restaurant I would recommend to my friends.

I found it to be expensive and tasteless rubber chicken curry, won't be returning here.

AVOID ! Ordered chicken madras , pilau rice & onion bhaji to take away on 5/11/22.The portion of madras was SMALL ! The same size as the rice ! The chicken was dry & rubbery and the sauce had no depth of flavour , it was just curry powder ! The rice and bhaji were okay but for £13.50 it was very disappointing and I won’t be going back ! The worst Indian takeaway I’ve had !

Nice lunch, quick service, lots of options, served on heated plates. Good value. Did feel forced out prematurely as they wanted to shut after lunch- waiters stood a bit too close to the table making it feel rushed.

Reserved a table service was excellent and very attentive food was hot tasty and served in a timely manner. We both had different lamb dishes and lots of flavour.

My wife and I used to be regular customers of the Taj but we stopped going some years ago. Since the beginning of this year we have again become regulars. Why? you may ask. It's simple. The food is now better than it has ever been, the service is impeccable, the staff has great humour, and the refurb of the room it's in has transformed the place for the best, making it very spacious and comfortable. I took nine family members (four of whom live overseas) to the Taj a couple of weeks ago. Each of us ordered different dishes (including two vegetarian) from each other and each one of us enjoyed what we ate as, without exception, the food was perfectly cooked and tasted great. This is the best restaurant of it's type for miles around.

A friend suggested we try here for a change as hed hesrd good things..... It was very busy for a Thursday night so a popular place, but i dont understand why, up there with 1 of the worst Indian meals ever. Cheap chicken with the constituency of rubber with a sauce poured over, the worst nan breads I have ever eaten and appallingly slow service. All in all it was just awful.Lovely panoramic view of the car park though. Given how busy it was maybe I was just unlucky, but I certainly won't be going back.

A special evening out in 4 was enhanced by our incredible experience at Taj Tandoori. The food was beyond exceptional with shockingly reasonable pricing. Staff were outstanding, making us all feel so welcome. Attention to detail in everything they do. Highly highly recommend and we will be back often.

My partner and i both have the Taj special curry with alterations, the lamb they use is easily the best ive tasted in many years, the sauce they use with the mushrooms is also really tasty, together with the lemon or keema rice is a great meal, cant recommend enough!

I have always been happy with the food previously but sadly this was the worst curry I have ever eaten ! Chicken dry & tough ,Bombay potatoes was bizarrely new potatoes & awful, rice dry !…. Sorry but never again .

Four friends, myself included, had an evening meal and we were very nicely surprised by many elements of the culinary experience. It was late, so we stayed local.The staff were courteous, giving us just the right amount of attention. Their waiting uniforms were cleaned and well fitted. The interior of the restaurant far surpasses the unexciting façade. I very much liked the pristine, white tablecloth and napkins, not a stain in sight. The serving dishes and crockery were pleasant to use and looked good on the table. Now, I come to the main reason for your reading - the actual food. The food was placed on those trays with tea lights underneath to keep the food warm longer. A wise move. The quantities were just right, the flavours were appetising…which prompted one to have some more…and some more. I left the restaurant feeling full but not bloated (which I hate, so unhealthy). I remember thinking while I was there that the decor (patterned carpet, etc.) gave it a slight retro feeling…but in a good way. The ambience was pleasant, with a variety of customers (couples, groups of friends, women-only tables…). All in all, a very nice experience. We’ll be back.

Always great service and lovely curry

This was our third time at Taj whilst visiting family and it never disappoints. The food is lovely and decent portion sizes, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the restaurant clean with a nice ambience. I am Coeliac and the staff and kitchen were helpful and advised me accordingly. Overall a lovely dining experience and we will be back.

This is yet another restaurant that highlights how the local community have no idea as to what good Indian food is. The evening started with warm coke, it states on the side of the bottle "best served chilled" that doesn't mean you have to mix it with frozen tap water. It means you refrigerate it. Tasteless chicken dish and poorly presented aloo. Just go to shampan at the spinning wheel or Mumbai central up the road and don't waste your money here.

Only ever eaten take away, it’s great every time!

If you only go for the main and rice dishes you cant go wrong, have unfortunately had some not very nice side dishes, especially samosa's that have oil running out of them, puts you off the whole meal.

Had a takeaway from here - was some of the best Indian food I have ever had! Really surprised at the quality and taste. Staff were not very welcoming and gave the impression that they would rather I hadn't been there, but as I was getting a takeaway wasn't a problem!

Sadly for us our experience was not a good one last night. We had been so looking forward to eating out as we hadn't done for so long. The place itself was warming and had a lovely atmosphere. Unfortunately however, the food when it arrived (after an extremely long wait) was cold and at least 4 parts of the meal were wrong. Noone asked us if our meal was ok. I'm really hoping this was a one off as I like to support local but suffice to say, we won't be going back there for a while.

Bad night at Taj Tandoori. Very slow service. Starters came without their sauce and were dry to taste. A long wait for the main courses and when they arrived some dishes were cold and others had congealed sauce as though they had been under heating lamp for a long time. A side dish was missing which the waiter said was on its way but never arrived. Disappointed. Have been to this restaurant in the past and it was great. Not sure what has changed tonight but I'd think twice about going back.

I was cautious when looking at the exterior decor as thought it looked a bit cheap/ tacky, but as there was several people sitting in there, for a Tuesday evening, I thought must be fairly good. I'm glad I gave it a go! The interior design is much nicer and feels more like a restaurant. The food was delicious, the portion sizes were good and the price was fantastic. Will definitely be returning. Don't judge a book by it's cover 😊

Visited on Christmas Eve and had a beautiful meal as always. My Dad left his wallet behind and the staff noticed straight away and contacted us much to our relief!

The restaurant is really nice. However I am yet to dine in here. Just an initial review for my takeaway orders - I had ordered twice (Chicken Biryani (it was okay) and Stuffed Paratha, Vindaloo Curry and Garlic Sweet Chicken) from the restaurant. Unfortunately I found the curries to be really spicy even for my Indian taste buds; it might be slightly better if paired with wine or something. However as there are lots of menu items, I'll definitely come back here to try out those and update my review.

I've been attending this restaurant for over 30 years and it's had its ups for 20years and it's slow decline from being the best to simply average. I visited again in late 2021 and was pleasantly surprised. I hope it's back to its best again.

Is it me or are we all enjoying recession - style meals now? Every Indian or Chinese eat out (incl the Taj) is cutting back on content and upping the amount of sauce. Disappointed

The quality of food and service is always exceptional. Do reassuring to see social distancing expedited, masks worn, hand sanitizer points especially during this current climate. This is a hospitality venue well worth a visit, we will be back!

This small local Indian is without doubt the Jewel of the area, it has the best staff and finest menu of the many curry houses I have visited in my time and the taste is exceptional

Can totally recommend the chicken vindaloo which was very hot as billed. My wife had the paneer shashlik which was also very nice. Staff were really friendly and service was excellent. Shame I live 150+ miles away.
