Not even going to waste my time writing a full review as the owner doesn’t even respond to comments. Went for an anniversary meal tonight only people in the restaurant. Seated and took 20 minutes to come round with menu and drinks order. No steak or lobster on the menu. Food was average certainly not worth the price. Out of 6 desserts on menu only 2 available . Really poor service and certainly wouldn’t recommend anyone visits.

This is such a wonderful and central stay, it's perfect for a few days in Oakham, it's so quiet which is a bonus for you as other places are to busy and don't offer the quality and price of this restaurant/bar definitely recommend 100 percent 😀

I arrived for a quick lunch alone - ordered a chicken supreme and a non alcoholic cider at. 12.15 which arrived immediately but by 12.45 no food at all - I was the only person in the place apart from the cook and the barmaid. Draw your own conclusions. I left after paying for my cider and told the barmaid I was going as the meal was taking far too long - “ ok “ she said and that was that ! They could not care less. Will not be going back. No wonder pubs are shutting at the rate they are.

I ordered a cauliflower dish which had a harrisa sauce however it was so hot it burned my tongue and I couldn't eat. There was no warning on the menu that it this was an extremely hot dish and there was absolutely no help from the staff. We were given the bill for the meal even though I had only eaten one mouthful and just seen as awkard customers. The manager rightly deducted the cost of the meal I couldn't eat however the night was ruined by the lack of understanding and sympathy from the staff involved

Lunch at The Angler, Oakham: We enjoyed a family lunch here today, seated in the 'conservatory' bit. We had the halloumi focaccia, the gnocchi, and the kids' menu, all of which was tasty and presented appealingly. It took a few minutes to find someone to seat us when we arrived (was empty and the friendly chef tracked down the wait staff), but after that service was attentive and friendly enough.

I went with my family to start off the bank holiday as it was advertised that they were having a fish night. There were only 3 options on the specials menu for fish, with the main course option being £25 which we thought was a bit steep for the type of venue it was. The service was incredibly slow and we had to get up several times to find a member of staff to take our orders. A few of us only ordered a few starters as we weren’t too hungry. One of them was described on the menu as a “broccoli and edamame salad” which was literally plain unseasoned boiled vegetables on a plate. The aubergine dip was completely unseasoned and bland. Once we’d finished our food lots of members of staff walked past our table and ignored us and the empty plates were sat there for about 25/30 minutes. We had to chase them again to bring the bill. I complained about two dishes and the service and they did take those two off the bill but no real explanation or apology for the bad service. Waste of money, definitely won’t be going back.

We went for a date night but unfortunately wouldn't return. The food order was unfortunately incorrectly taken so my food came out first and my husbands about 10 mins or so after that. The beef brisket donut was cold and my Korean and pineapple chicken wasn't as expected ( I think I got a different chicken to what was ordered ) My husbands ribs had next to no meat on them and I think the best part of the meal was my 2 for 1 bikini martini cocktails.

Came to have dinner for my wife's birthday. Seat by the window had a strong draft and so we sat wearing coats until the meal. Table got prepared and they laid the cutlery on the table then sprayed the table and cutlery with cleaner. We asked for new cutlery. Cocktails were not the best with the smoked old fashioned having no smoke, and being super sweet. The bar staff couldn't make an amaretto sour either which is a fairly common cocktail. Shared the beef platter as a main with a "Baba ganoush" side. The Baba ganoush was not a true Baba ganoush but just mashed aubergine without any tahini etc. the beef platter was tasty, but with no relief from the salt and richness of the food. No query on dessert for us either. The sitting area we were in had emptied out by 945pm so we left as well. A good meal, but nothing fantastic for her birthday unfortunately.

The Angler, Oakham. Lovely decor in their dining area and even though it was really chilly outside, it was lovely and warm in their conservatory dining area. I ordered a glass of Chardonnay, and was served a Pinot Grigio or similar. Server kept bumping me in a sort of shoulder bump familiar way. Which was most unpleasant. My first request on the menu ... unavailable. Then the server pushed me to order from the full a la carte menu instead of the lunch menu. The service lacking. The server wasn't to be seen once the food was placed on the table. (I had to go looking for assistance when I couldn't get the black pepper mill to turn, and when I wanted to pay.) I ordered Mac and Cheese - it honestly tasted like cheap packaged cheese sauce was used. I didn't enjoy it.

We were looking for a place to have lunch and came across this nice pub. The menu looked promising so we decided to give it a go. Staff were really helpful and attentive. We ordered boneless chicken fried in their secret coating Korean BBQ sauce as a starter to share. I must say that it was amazing and significantly better than what I'd had eaten in a Korean restaurant in Cambridge a couple of days before. We had fish and chips from the lunch menu as main. The waitress told us portions were a bit smaller than those in the main menu. However, it was more than enough to fill us up completely. So much that we decided against ordering pudding, as tempting as the apple crumble with custard or the sticky date pudding with butter scotch sauce sounded. We will need to back for these :). Price surprisingly good for two people. I forgot to take pictures but it doesn't matter, it was a experience that will remain in my mind for a long time.

We chose the angler as we had previously visited and had a lovely time there last Christmas and were given the same lovely, secluded dining area. As someone with an allergy it is already a scary experience eating somewhere new. To have so little options on the menu is unusual these days as most places will offer to cater to intolerances and allergies if their menu fails to provide adequate alternatives. I asked upon arrival about allergy information and was told that the menu would state what was gluten free with no further information. To my surprise there was only one option for a main which was honey glazed ham and chips. I searched for other options looking to see what could potentially be altered to suit my dietary requirements and asked if the steak could be made gluten free and if the peppercorn sauce contained gluten. The waitress said she’d ask and came back and said it was gluten free so I proceeded to order it as a rare. The steak came out the first time well seasoned and presented with fair sized sides which were garnished. Upon cutting into the steak I’d realised it was not rare but blue and was uncuttable. I asked if it was okay to have it put back on the grill for a little bit longer and if we could have some steak knives and the waitresses took it away and said it was no problem. It came back as a rare with an ungarnished salad, no peppercorn sauce on the side which was a £2.50 extra charge which I ultimately ended up paying for regardless of the fact it wasn’t received and was unseasoned. To pay nearly £30 for an unfinished unseasoned meal is extortionate and as a someone who has worked as a waitress myself I didn’t want to continue complaining and put more stress on her as it appeared that she was new or just a bit nervous and was quick to find out information when she was unsure. After finishing my meal feeling slightly awkward for complaining I went home and was extremely ill and still am today along with 2 other members of our party. We ordered some different cocktails after seeing there was no longer a wine list which all tasted completely different each time we ordered them. A Margarita should not taste purely of lime cordial and neat tequila and the mojitos had a strange flavour during the second round we ordered. Once it was time to pay we were told if we wanted to pay separately we would have to head to the bar which is okay but we were not supplied with a copy of the bill to check over and tally up what we owed. We were met by a young woman at the bar who seemed disgruntled and had nothing to say besides asking what we ordered and telling how much we had to pay. It’s a shame to leave a negative review, we had expected a similar experience to last year’s but after paying close to £50 for a meal which was not good and ultimately gave me an allergic reaction is extremely unreasonable. If the quality of the food and drinks has changed so drastically then the price should be altered accordingly.

When we arrived we stood at the front of house for a good 5 minutes awaiting to be seated. Keep in mind numerous staff walked past us without saying a word, eventually someone come over and asked "have you booked?" She left and another staff member come over escorting us to our table. We were sat for 10/15 minutes and in this time no one took our drink order, we just got asked if we were ready to order. We had to remind them that we haven't ordered drinks yet. We ordered and the food took a further 40 minutes to come out, keep in mind it wasn't overly busy. Food came out and I'll be honest some of it looked disappointing. Don't bother ordering the flatbread, we just found it to be a large warmed up tortilla (this was £4.00!), which they forgot the tzatziki dip and looked puzzled when we asked for it. Halloumi sticks looked very odd and weren't crispy golden, they had a strange white coating on them. The pork was also very dry and needed a drink to get it down. On a good note the bang bang cauliflower was amazing, probably the best I've had. Corn ribs were also great, they had a nice kick to them. We had finished our meal and staff were constantly walking past us. In that time no one asked how the food was, glasses were empty no one asked if we wanted another, no one collected our plates, no one came over to ask if we wanted a deserts menu . . It just seemed like there was zero interest and no one cared. In the end we got fed up of waiting so we went to the bar payed our bill and left. We previously visited Orbis in Stamford these restaurants are the same chain. We had an email stating 50% of food but only for The Angler, obviously we jumped at the opportunity as Orbis was fantastic hoping for a similar experience . . Sadly this wasn't the case. The email stated they made some changes to the restaurant due to previous complaints. If this is improved then I dread to think what it was like before.

Not quite as good as we'd hoped for or expected. We normally visit Orbis in Stamford, but they don't open on Sundays, so we visited their sister place here at The Angler in Oakham. We arrived at about 1.30pm, and the place seemed more or less empty then, but customers did follow on from us. Perhaps a warning sign, perhaps not but read on ... Drinks firstly, and they had no draft beers on! If you don't want a draft beer or don't drink them, not a problem, but a huge miss this in my book. That being said, a suitable drink was identified and ordered by one of our party, so it was not as bad as it could have been. Food next, and a reasonable choice on the menu ranging from normal sort of pub type menu with the addition of some of the dishes from Orbis. We had some of the Orbis dishes for our starter, which were fine, and then three of our party had the roast beef main course, and one had the fish and chips. In all honesty, it was OK but not overly wonderful and didn't reflect at all what we have come to expect from the Orbis brand; a shame, really. But worse, one of our party is gluten-free, and despite stating this when ordering their meal, one of the roast beef options came out with a standard Yorkshire Pudding. It didn't make it to the table, thanks to staff overhearing what was being said when the first two dishes were brought out, but not sure if it was simply removed (far from ideal that if it did happen) or was exchanged in full for a fresh plate. Either way, it shows a lack of attention and given the effects that such intolerances can have on those with them, far from ideal. Service seemed very slow, too; I'm not sure why or what caused that, but again, it mars the meal and the event to a degree, and although this is perhaps tight we felt unable to leave the team a tip when we paid. Hopefully, The Angler management will read this and take note to improve things going forward. We'll likely refrain from a re-visit and return to Orbis in Stamford, but good luck to the team here for the future.

Not sure if we picked a bad day or not.. based on previous reviews and photos we were expecting amazing and were met with disappointment. Firstly, the crispy chilli squid. Came out floppy and pale. Not at all crispy. Sent it back and it just got refried, so it was double oily and very bland.. not a hint of chilli. Had to send it back again, uneaten and spat out, and got it taken off the bill Secondly, the burgers. We had the Truffalo burger (the bacon jam completely overpowers all the flavours, it had to be scraped out to even get a hint of the truffle mayo - which was actually delicious!) and we had the Flintstone burger (the pulled pork was tough and inedible). The burgers themselves, while amazingly chunky and very meaty, literally dripped with grease if you so much as looked at them. Lastly, the dessert. The choice of ice cream was less than minimal, and if you opted for the tub of ice cream, it was literally a kiddy size plastic tub that even came with one of those iddy biddy plastic spoons.. all very cheap and nasty stuff. The cheesecake was warm and the base was soft and soggy, and the whole thing was completely overwhelmed with strawberry syrup til you couldn't taste anything else. Was also appalled to see that food was being taken off the pass and being placed right next to the catering strength cleaning products, let alone the fork that was left on the floor for the entirety of our our visit. We also were not given a full set of cutlery on arrival, were not given fresh napkins when our starter was taken away, and considering the extensive menu, almost everything we picked was not available..they had only been open an hour and a half and weren't exactly packed to the rafters. Upon leaving, the ladies bathroom had no toilet roll at all.. again..they'd been open an hour and a half... Did no one check before they opened the doors??? Will not be attending again, this is the second orbis to disappoint, the Stamford one wasn't up to scratch either.

Ordered food tonight, 2 Rutland burgers, onion rings and salt and pepper squid. Pretty much the whole meal was bad. There was a handful of overcooked hard chips on a metal tray along with what could only be described as the driest burger I've ever eaten. The onion rings were £5 and was given 6 of them dripping in oil. The salt and pepper squid looked awful and tasted even worse. There was no aftercare or how is your meal. Went to the Lick Hoof on the back of Foodreviewclub with real high expectations but was really disappointed. The chicken burger he rated a 9 was would say is a 1, he had 3 chicken pieces we had two and it was like a chicken tenders in a bun, no flavour for around £10! I hate KFC now (previously used think it was okay until you get more bun than chicken) . This was worse. Amazing was a reviewer would get in their bun compared to a customer. Worst chicken ever over hyped, dry and over priced. My missus was not happy. It was with Siracha sauce but i could not believe how poor it was. I could make a better burger at home! Maybe good for Oakham but there are far better places in leicester city for a burger. I had burger with the The Fred Flinstone again it was poor value for money. I thought they would cook this at least a little pink and it would be juicy but it was over cooked and dry, bun was tiny too, no value for money again. Would never recommend unfortunately. The food was actually sensational, the loaded fries and burgers out of this world. Defo recommend trying this if it’s your type of food, really worth it and a good price to match.

9 of us embarked upon the angler recently without prior booking and the staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. The food was top-drawer and we have no complaints at all. They also let us bring our own birthday cake in and sparkler candle. We will definitely return, wing Wednesday is sounding like a plan..... Thank you all, it was a pleasure!!

We had wanted to visit for ages and finally got the opportunity last Saturday. We had booked a table online but was running late, so we had to amend the booking, which was no issue at all and very easy to do. Upon arrival, we walked in and weren't sure whether to just sit at a table or not, so we just kind of loitered in the entrance. There were a number of people that appeared to be staff stood talking at the end of the bar, a waitress who was back and forth and a lady behind the bar but no-one qreeted or acknowledged us so we felt a little awkward. Eventually, when I asked the lady behind the bar what to do, we were shown to the table. We had been when it was the orbis, so we were happy sitting in the conservatory and already liked the decor/style, so once seated, we relaxed. We were given a paper menu, but unfortunately, it didn't have the drinks on it, so when the waitress came to take our order, we weren't sure what they did. She turned the menu over, but it was a blank page, but she quickly got us a new one. We couldn't decide what to go for, so the waitress offered her recommendations, which helped us come to a decision (thankfully as i think we'd still be sat there lol!) and we chose a classic burger (og?), the flintstone, the buffalo wings and a side of mac n cheese along with two milkshakes. The food came out in record time....infact it was there before the milkshakes. It all arrived hot and beautifully executed. The burgers were absolutely gorgeous! The flintstone was soooo tasty, and i really liked that it didn't all fall to bits in your hand. You could actually eat it without getting in a mess. Even the classic just melted in your mouth. The chips were perfectly seasoned, and we were surprised to learn that they were only half a portion as there were loads! The wings were lush. The sauce had the right amount of heat and a good balance of cheese. The only thing we were underwhelmed with was the mac n cheese, as despite looking gorgeous, we found it to be a little bland, but that may just be down to our preference. We had clearly ordered way more than we could eat, but the waitress was more than happy to get us boxes so we could take home a doggy bag. All in all, we enjoyed the food and overall experience......especially being able to relive our childhoods playing Street fighter & Pacman before we left. (We would have given the full 5 stars had it not have been for the awkwardness on arrival and would have only taken half a star off for that but unfortunately, Google doesn't allow halves so we went with 4)

Food was tasty. Not enough choice of deserts. Found it very cold as people in and out constantly going for a cig and leaving doors open. Great service from the lady behind the bar.

Went on a Friday with 3 friends, we found the food and drinks nice but service was very slow, we ended up asking to place an order. People around us had been forgotten and others asked for a bill which didn't receive and had to go to pick it up. The burgers come alone and need building, then each part adding on so becomes expensive. Buger pattie was alot thinner then we expected but tasty.

Wing flavours were good. Wings were cooked a little longer than I would have liked, but you dont want to risk uncooked chicken in a restaurant setting. Smash burgers tasted good, had the Fred Flintstone. They didn't have the lacey edges you might expect but were tasty nevertheless. Service is a little slow, think that they are still getting used to providing table service again, so will give the benefit of the doubt on that.

We ate here tonight and the food was absolutely amazing! Actually the best burgers we have ever tasted! Even the chips were out of this world and as my husband said ‘I want these chips in heaven!’ The service was outstanding, bar staff brilliant, chefs Michelin star all the way! Even had a couple of games of pool with our 3 boys after. The atmosphere was fantastic and didn’t really want to leave. Thanks to all the team, you are doing a tremendous job! Very very happy customers 😁

The wings where top drawer amazing and the Mississippi mud pie was next level - it got a happy food dance. My fish burger was a little underwhelming when compared to everything else. The rsst of my group enjoyed a full range of cocktails as designated driver I loved that they had an extensive soft drink selection. Would happily eat here again

This is a difficult one to review for me as we had a good and bad experience. In December 2022 I booked a private dining area to celebrate my 40th birthday with friends, I also booked the pizza brunch offer. My friends do not live local to Oakham and I chose The Angler specifically for the private dining and brunch offer. Upon arrival yesterday I was shown to our table which was not in the private dining area, when I queried this I was told this area no longer existed and this information was not on the booking. I then also queried if they were still doing the pizza brunch offer to be told this was also no longer available and The Angler no longer offered pizzas on the menu, let alone the brunch offer. After complaining, we were offered burgers and a side and 5 drinks for the same price as the original pizza brunch offer which was great. However, we were not offered any vegetarian offers to begin with, when queried, we were then only offered 1 option which was poor, and we had to ask again for a further vegetarian option. Service was extremely slow throughout the meal. On one occasion, we had to ask for water for the table 3 times before it arrived. We were also told we had to order at the bar, we did this, to then be told by the staff at the bar we didn't need to do this and someone would take our order at the table. The food was really nice and the deal we got in the end was really good. But the slow service, miscommunication and the fact nobody had informed me about the changes before hand is why I can only give a 2 star review.

Came here on Saturday night with my wife. We absolutely loved the food! The burgers were that good I had to order a second as I didn’t want it to end! My wife had some buffalo wings too and said they were very delicious. If you like burgers, a chilled atmosphere, great cocktails and friendly staff then this is a must visit there is no place like it in Oakham. They are also starting to deliver the only issue now is for my waistline!!!

Awesome 1st experience of eating in there. I really loved the chicken strips, the chicken was so lovely and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his burger and chips 😋😋😋 Excellent location and when you walk in / around the place you realise that it's so much bigger than you realised when standing outside! I like the fact that there were multiple rooms including a snooker or pool table, some games put on a table in another small cosy looking room. There's the main restaurant in front of the bar but if you walk round there's plenty of seating and outside to. We'll be back! So impressed and the service was fantastic and welcoming 😁 You can also order and pay at the table by scanning their QR code if you want.

The Lucky Hoof - The best new restaurant I have been to, all of the menu options sounded great and everything we ordered (which was a lot between us) was incredible. The burgers were fantastic and better than any of the other burger restaurants I have been to. Definitely try the milkshakes as they are unique and awesome. The chef Gav checked in with us and I can only say him and his team are doing an amazing job. Couldn't recommend more and will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu. Awful service, total denial of a booking despite an email. Very average food, no garnishes, cottage pie needed some sort of grilling to pep up the top or maybe some cheese, macaroni cheese was runny and tasteless more like a runny pasta sauce than mac and cheese and again the Top needs grilling with some grated cheese.. Staff unattentive however on the plus side the bar is very well lit. Food about on par with Weatherspoons without much choice. My second disappointing try of the Angler. Such shame as I'm local and had such good memories of my misspent youth. They have a very long way to go to make it into the realms of good.. Menu needs looking at, staff needs training. Im so incredibly disappointed.

Below average food. Service was extremely poor. Would not recommend. Waitress claimed they do not have salsa despite salsa being on the nachos. Had to ask 3 different staff members over a long time before I was bought a Diet Coke. We ordered the pork nachos but were served normal nachos but then charged for pork, which we then had to ask them to change

Me and my partner went here on opening night for drinks and dinner. Staff are really cold and we both found our burgers had no taste other than oil. Small portion of fries and so overpriced. We asked for sauces and salt and pepper which we never received. Couple behind us were complaining about their food. Had to go up and pay as we waited ages for the bill. I can see other bad reviews are also coming through. I’d give it a miss.

Tried for the first time unfortunately not impressed . We were sat between two families with children, on one side the children where squealing and the other side there was a child playing on their ipad with the volune audible. We asked to be moved to a different table which was OK. My wife ordered fish and chips I ordered dirty fries. The fish and chips came , the batter was pale in colour , however my wife said the fish inside the almost translucent batter was hot and very nice , the peas where just a congealed lump of green on the plate and the chips were cold. We complained to the waitress who after speaking to the chef took the price off of the fish and chips off of the bill. Considering the angler is new and looking to corner the market in Oakham they need to pay more attention to detail and up their game if they are to succeed. There are much better places to eat in Oakham and they will soon be bypassed if they do not improve.

Food good but far too expensive even for Oakham. 5 dishes and 4 drinks for £90 Only 5 people dining on a Saturday lunch time when all other pubs we went into were packed with diners and drinker's. Great decor and service but as stated too pricey and both my wife and I who are qualified in catering think you will struggle to survive in the current cost of living challenges.
