Awful food. Chicken korma sauce was minimal and full of water rather than the usual thick sauce you would expect. No flavour to this either. Chicken was not fresh, instead dry and chewy. Rice was soft and soggy. Worst Indian in Rutland, would never order from here again. Not a patch on Sarpech!

Food was really fresh, tasty and hot - exactly what you want from an Indian restaurant. The man who served me was attentive, very friendly and helpful. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic food and friendly staff.

Absolutely brilliant restaurant. First visit last night on a Saturday. Service from the two chaps was so friendly. The king prawn puree was the best I've ever had. Can't wait to return.

Popped in here last night later than anticipated to find them nearly closed. However, we were met with a most warm welcome and invited to take a seat all the same. The food was delicious and the service was even better! We will be back, just not as late next time! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience.

A weekend break in Oakham. We ate here both evenings. Absolutely delicious food. Nice and small restaurant. Very warm welcome from the guy who was working both nights. Couldn't recommend this place enough. Definitely will be returning when we visit Oakham again.

We absolutely love the food here! We eat from here twice a week sometimes, it's that good! Balti house is definitely our go to place to eat! Highly recommend. Staff are super friendly , quick service too and food is always right!

Best chicken tikka masala I’ve ever had🙏🙏🙏

Despite living near Oakham for 8 years, this week was the first time we have been to the Rutland Balti House and was really impressed. The restaurant is small with seating for about 20 and take away customers pop in to collect from the bar area. Good selection on the menu, and very well cooked with great tastes. Reasonably priced food and good service. Definitely worth a visit.

Balti House was fantastic. Friendly and helpful staff, and an extensive good value menu. The Lamb Tikka Tawa was genuinely one of the best curries I have ever had

Very welcoming with great food and service

Pretty poor. Meat was overcooked, naan bread was like rubber, pastry on the samosas was gooey and bajis where rock solid. I didn't even want seconds and I'm a fat boy who can't normally say no.

Food not as nice as been several times bland and not worth going but waiter was lovely and understood and tried his best to make everything OK but food total let down sadly won't waste money there again

A little conflicted on this one. I eat at a fair few Indian restaurants and cook almost exclusively Indian food. We all have our favourite dishes and different restaurants have a different version. My tandoori king prawn jalfrezi wasn't bad. More oily than I'd like, mostly onion and only a few prawns for £10.50 plus rice. 7/10. My wife ordered a mix of starters which were mostly deep fried and a bit luke warm and overly greasy which made her a bit unwell. I tried the chicken pakora and it was dry chicken and very geasy batter. Shame as the staff were really nice. There were only 3 tables on a Monday night but service was rather slow, although they did apologise. Overall not terrible but could be so much better cooked and VFM.

I picked up a takeaway last night, having booked over the phone. I always have the same thing, a chicken biriani. My husband had the delicious king prawn korma.Sometimes, there isn’t enough sauce but the biriani itself is always so generous that I can never eat it all! I asked last night, if I could have less biriani but more sauce. At no extra charge, I was given the usual amount of biriani and a large tray of sauce. It was THE PERFECT AMOUNT!! Next time, I will offer to pay for the extra sauce.

7pm on a Saturday night and we hadn't booked. It was busy, and we were offered a choice between 2 tables. Although they were busy, the service was excellent, and quicker than expected. The menu is extensive but not too much, and it wasn't a problem that it is not a tandoori, the food and especially the nann bread was the best we've had in a long time. The price is so reasonable that we thought they'd left something off the bill!!! Our mistake, everything was without fault. They even had hot towels and after eights to finish. Our waiter was Shumon, and he was friendly and efficient. We honestly think this is the best Indian restaurant overall, ever! Do go. 👍

Ordered three different types of curry and they all looked the same. The pickle tray was like water. Very overpriced for bad food! The customer service is also shocking!

We stumbled upon this diamond after our regular Indian was fully booked. Not aure what to expect as it doesn't have all the bells and whistles lile our regular place. But after the meal it was clear that they spill their heart into the food. It. I've been eating here for over 25 years now and have never had a complaint; Abdul and his staff are polite, friendly and attentive and the food is always first class. On my last visit , my brother, a very experienced curry fan (and a very good curry cook himself), commented that the Chilli Chicken was the best curry he'd ever had. Happy New Year, Abdul.

I'm visiting Stretton Lakes with my husband and looked for an Indian restaurant. Saw this had a great review so decided to try it. I have to say that's the best chicken tikka masala and peshawari nan bread ever!! 11/10. Will definitely visit this place again, even if it's an hours drive. Attentive service too.

Best Indian meal for a long time.

The Balti house in Oakham Rutland has been our favourite restaurant since we moved here in 2018. The staff are fantastic nothing is too much. Recommend for couples and groups.

Missed this place! First visit in over 2 years and it was as good as I remember. Good food, reasonable price with friendly service.

Fabulous experience. From short notice booking to cooking food that they had ran out of. All food for all six of us was well cooked, delicious and served in good time.

I have been going to this restaurant for years. A cozy atmosphere (smaller downstairs and an upstairs) and friendly staff. Good prices. I go to the restaurant for special days and it’s become my go to comfort takeaway.

Have been coming here on and off for 25 years now. We ate here last Wednesday, and we were pleasantly surprised to see the restaurant had a few tables already taken and a couple of people came in for takeaways while we were there. Large choice on the menu and the food was as excellent as always, tasty and full of flavour. Service was good, we really enjoyed our meal. Great value, comes highly recommended.

We ordered a takeaway yesterday, it was 40 minutes to cook and it was beautiful. The service was great and even though it’s a 20 minute drive home the food was perfect to eat. It’s the best Indian takeaway we’ve had in a while!

I hope last nights experience was a one off for this takeaway restaurant. We ordered our meal at 7 O’clock and told to collect at 8 o’clock. Finally at 8.45 we received our food. Once home the food was only luke warm and the majority was tasteless. Hopefully this was a bad evening for the staff but I could not recommend it to anyone on this performance.

The service was great and the food incredible

This is the only Indian restaurant my family has used since moving to Oakham 19 years ago. It was highly recommended and never fails to please.We ate in with our grandchildren between Lockdowns and have had a couple of take-always since. I particularly recommend their various biryanis.I always ask for ‘not too spicy’. Because their meals are cooked to order, they always oblige. If anything, there is too much of it! It would feed almost two people.There is sanitiser for you. The waiter wears a mask and gloves. I don’t know if the chefs wear masks but we feel perfectly happy with all cleanliness aspects.

Visited for a takeaway this evening, food was lovely, hot and tasty - couldn’t fault it. After a very slight mix up with the order, customer service was second to none and it was resolved super quickly. Staff are brilliant and food is brilliant!! Would 100% visit again

Lovely takeaway meal tonight. Haven’t had an Indian takeaway since a disappointing one from what is ranked as the top one in Oakham last year.....decided to try the Rutland Balti House tonight and it was delicious. Looked at the menu on the website and called the order through. They told me how long it would be and explained that it was cash only which wasn’t a problem. Was ready when they said and tasted great. Lamb Dansak and Chicken Tikka Saag plus a Pilau rice each and a mixed kebab starter and vegetable pakora and a peshwari naan. They threw in a couple of popadoms and lovely dip with them. Will definitely be ordering from them again. Highly recommended.

Excellent food and service, a little gem

We totally recommend a meal here offer out visit tonight. The service was super and the food was one of the nicest Currys we have had ( and we are fussy eaters). Brilliant size portions, good flavours and a friendly atmosphere .Will visit again if we travel this way in future .Thanks for a lovely meal .

Very disappointing, been using the Duke but fancied a change. Wish we hadn't lamb tough as old boots, very watery and bland sauces. The only thing nice was the naan bread and the Duke does is better. Positives food was hot and cooked for the time of arrival.

We had a lovely meal here, three of us had a wide variety of main meals and could not fault anything. We were served by a really helpful man. Will certainly be going back.

Came in for a take away tonight, the food was absolutely fantastic and even after a six mile drive was piping hot, friendly staff and lovely clean restaurant, we will Definately be back.

Waited over an hour & half from order taken to getting food so quite disappointed, although the food tasted good. Will probably order takeaway in future rather than sit in.

We have had many take aways and eat ins here over the past yrs but tonight our take away was only ok. Potion sizes we tiny, nan breads very small and the meal was not very warm. Taste was really good though. I ate my curry rice and nan bread in less than 5 mins and although i eat fast, 5 mins is a record for me

Just had the loveliest meal with the friendliest host. Not only was the food absolutely delicious & so so reasonable £30 for 2 drinks, poppadoms to start and 2 mains & rice but we had lovely conversation with the owner. We are soooo returning soon. What a special little independent restaurant. Highly recommended.

Long wait for a takeaway but they gave us a bottle of wine and extra naan bread and poppadoms and sauces

We booked a table of four for 7pm on arriving we were met with confusion but got our table. Literally sat on the lap of the people next to us. As we could only get an early table we were not very hungry so decided on a poppadom starter fusion meal so as to decide whether we wanted mains afterwards. This has not been a problem in any other restaurant before. Service was very slow we were left waiting to even be asked for s drink and the waited to be asked for starters poppadoms. I hear you say it’s a Friday they must have been busy. 4 tables were dining with 3 staff front of house..... so no they were not busy. When we asked for the bill I was moaned at and told “we don’t just do starters” and then very rudely told “we don’t take card” luckily for them we had cash and morals as I was more than happy to walk out. The food was ok at best. Obviously the only Indian restaurant in town will keep them going but I certainly won’t be back.

Rutland Balti is exactlywhat you want if, like me, you were brought up in the 80s and just want a great tasting curry with minimal fuss. It’s a curry house rather than an “Indian Restaurant” and that’s a great compliment.

I agree with Rickanstis that The Rutland Balti has dropped down the league table a little. I dont know if they have changed chefs and management, but the food we had last week was not properly warm, and the Tandoori hot plate didn't sizzle at all. It has to be careful that the takeaway trade work does not hinder the chef's ability to cook decent grub for the diners. Let's give it a couple of months and see what happens. We shall remain loyal, though.

I’ve been here many times over the years, and I’ve always enjoyed the old-school curry-house ambience, and the timeless offerings from the huge menu. But my most recent visit was a little disappointing, with cold service, slightly measly portions (more onion than meat; less accompanying salad), and truly terrible ‘chutneys’ served with the (OKish) poppadums. Prices here do remain very low for food and for drinks; but I’d gladly have spent another pound for each dish and had better quality and quantity. And friendlier service would have helped, too. But it is definitely still worth a visit if you’re in the area; and - although I rarely take any notice of such things – the toilets here are remarkable for their tidiness and their cleanliness.

Just endured one of the most disappointing take away meals I've ever eaten. After decanting a good centimetre of oil from the top of my chicken balti I uncovered an insipid sauce that was so tasteless it could only have been from a jar and chicken that I suspect was precooked from a bag and just stirred in. I'm not sure if the chef has actually ever eaten paneer or knows what it is but I can assure him/her that it shouldn't have the texture of stringy melted cheese within any indian dish. If you enjoy indian food please can I advise you in the strongest possible terms to avoid this place as I actually believe it is a massive insult to all indian cuisine. And your tastebuds. They deserve better.

Just had a takeaway from here. We all agreed it was the worst meal we've ever had. The saag paneer did not resemble paneer. We think it was mozzarella. The tarka dall did not taste of anything, just a lentil mush. No idea how it got so many good ratings.

The Rutland Balti House is our favourite "Indian Restaurant" ever! We have been going there for years and have always received lovely food and fantastic hospitality. We fully recommend it. :)

My family have been coming here for 10+ years. Whenever we’re all together it’s our first takeaway choice. Flavours are amazing and all fresh. Service always friendly and always somewhere to park outside. Can’t recommend enough.

Have had several takeaways from here and they were good. The last takeaway, my husband ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and when we got it home there were 5 small pieces of chicken sitting in a watery sauce - really poor.

Very friendly staff serving tasty food

Small but most attractive restaurant with charming mine host Abdul.I had Tandoori King Prawns a favourite of mine but it was particularly delicious here. The other three people I was dining with also greatly enjoyed the food. Excellent Cobra beer and linen napkins. In the evenings you can usually park in the street outside the restaurant.

Eat here a lot never been disappointed in the food or service, if you like it hot as I do chicken and prawn vindaloo is a must,if you like it mild like the korma just as tastey.
