I absolutely love Captain Thornton's, it's our monthly treat meal. The fish and chips are properly cooked the old fashioned way by people who care and know what they are doing. The addition of halloumi cheese is also welcome! We drive past a number of fish and chip shops to get here, and for us, Captain Thornton's is the best there is.

Absolutely fantastic place! Great, fast service. Has four or five tables and all were constantly occupied so assume you won’t get a seat. I had duck spring rolls, beef with garlic and black bean sauce, and egg fried rice. So welcoming. Beef was incredible and very good quality meat. Spring rolls disappointing amount of meat in them but beautifully cooked and crispy. Would definitely be a regular if I lived locally. Only cans of drinks available. No alcohol.

Cold under cooked chips. And a battered sausage that would need a saw to eat. Sort out the batter its tough as old nails. Not worth the £2.30 I paid to throw in the bin!

Freshly cooked, great size portion of cod, good size portion of chips and proper mushy peas. Our take away treat on our day of arrival to the area. Highly recommended

Went in on Tuesday 18th March 2025 at 7pm. Ordered 2 fish, 1 chips, peas and a scallop. The fish was fresh as it got fried when we went in. Chips were delicious and the scallops were also quality. One of the best fish shops around.

If I’m honest with you to say it’s a cheap place would expect the food to be better the toppings tasted better than the whole thing. The jacket potato was hard not soft and very bland had no butter in it and the skin was to soggy not crispy so wasn’t nice at all. And for a third not to come at anyone’s culture or race but to say there different race they didn’t need to make my girlfriend feel so uncomfortable all because she’s a white blonde staring at her biting there lip I was the one speaking to them asking what I wanted but instead they be glaring my girlfriend down and speaking to her and ignoring me not a grate service at all then they kept looking at my girlfriend and talking in there own language I’m not racist nor disrespectful but that place is disappointing Aswel as the quality of food I get that London road hasn’t got many white peoples but there’s no need to treat us white people different all Because we are different race and I would appreciate if you people would stop making white people feel uncomfortable I could of gone of the rails that day but chose to be respectful and kept calm I will not be returning to that awful place and I thought it let everyone know and get that out there and keep eveyone safe as with my girlfriend was only 17 and there 40 year old men and I’d dread to think if I let her go inside there on her own it’s disgusting behaviour and people should have more respect especially for there customers no matter the race no rounder why my girlfriend is feared to walk around Sheffield town knowing there’s loads of people like that who make her feel so threatened.

We've been coming here for a year now and have recommended this place to all our friends and visitors, as the food and service has always been really good. However, last night was a completely different story. We only order two things: a chicken and mushroom pizza (as that's all I'll eat) & a doner calzone (which is all he eats). We got our order at 9:45pm and drove the 25 mins home. The calzone was cooked on the outside, but completely raw inside. The filling was cooked and fine, but the dough itself was not. The pizza was apparently chicken doner! You would expect plain chicken. When we took them back today, we were told the pizza has always been like that, despite me saying I've only ever had that pizza and never had that problem before! The first guy we spoke to said the calzone is how it comes! Then the manager came out and was happy to refund the calzone but as that's how the pizza has always been he wasnt doing a refund for that. My husband said is there nothing you can do at all? He said no. After all this we won't be going back.

Had to reheat due to food being cold

Have bought fish and chips here several times, good quality and well cooked but averages £10 per person.

The best pizza's...I will only order from here.
