Food very average and chips soggy

Fantastic local and affordable eatery, where you can enjoy a delicious, simple meal after a long day of walking. Seems like a family business, which is often nice business anyway. Delicious food.

Delicious battered haggis! It was our go to meal while staying in Ballater! This Kent southerner was pleased & impressed!

Been visiting Ballater for a while now but had never known about this wee chippy as up a side street. Lovely young lad serving who was polite and efficient. The food was cooked to order and was a lovely traditional fish and chips which we really enjoyed.

Produced perfectly acceptable fish & chips quickly & efficiently. Ballater is not well served by restaurants or takeaways & this place certainly warrants a trip if you are staying nearby.

Fantastic gluten free fish and chips for me, and my husband enjoyed his haggis supper. I phoned to pre order and the food was fresh on collection. Really nice girls on the counter. I highly recommend!

Well will never be going there again. Asked if I wanted salt and vinegar told them I only wanted vinegar. Waited 20 mins. To get the food as the cook had forgot to put the on. And then leaves it to the young lassie serving to apologise for the delay. Then I start eating the food to find it completely covered in salt. Then when I go back to complain. The lassies behind the counter just look confused and didn't know what to say. And the cook just said sorry and he'd refund it in a good old passive aggressive way. Hold him to keep my money as its the last I'll ever spend there and left. But as soon as my back's turned all I hear is him saying it doesn't matter to the girls. So I went back in and told him it does matter as I'm salt intolerant. But apparently customer service or customer health concerns don't matter!!!!

This is fish and chips as it should be. All cooked fresh to order, which is worth a wee bit of a wait. We particularly love the traditional chips and the golden, tasty batter on the fish. Staff work so hard, it's difficult to see how they juggle all these orders and requests at busy times and still keep smiling. A real treat for us.

It was closed. Shame because we drove a fair bit out of our way to go there.

Being on holiday in Ballaterwe decided fish and chips on our last night. Visited Phoenix and the food was excellent. Possibly the best fish in batter I have ever had!

Surprisingly good take-away meals. I especially enjoyed the Phoenix pizza—spicy!

Stopped here on way to Braemar and both had a lovely takeaway meal. Fish supper and black pudding supper. Everything cooked fresh, toasty hot and tasted lovely. Service was excellent with polite staff. Would definitely go back when passing through. Can highly recommend their fish and chips.

Great fish and chips. Ordered on the phone, picked up on time, nice and hot. Salt and vinegar added as requested. Extra salt sachets were given when asked for. Nice mushy peas.

On a cold snowy and freezing night, I was able to eat the best fish, chips and mushy peas, in the heated room provided for customers to eat indoors. Best chipper in The Highlands!

Just back from enjoying the freshest fish and chip supper in this wonderful little chippy, hidden away just off the main road in Ballater. It was service with a smile from the lovely lady from the East End of London, who even opened up the dining section and turned on the heating especially for us so that we did not have to take away our meal on a freezing evening. All in all, a perfect experience!

My first fish-n-chips on my Scottish holiday. Delicious! Fish not dripping with fat but nice and crunchy. Good chips. Also not expensive. Recommended!

Heading home after a day hill walking and the family wanted chip suppers, so stopped off in Ballater. Great range of products all cooked fresh. Staff friendly and most importantly the food was excellent. One of the nicest chippers I’ve been to. Fish was excellent, white pudding was brill and the burgers are so tasty (feedback from family) and the best thing was everything came wrapped in paper so no larger unnecessary cardboard boxes to get rid of. Just wish other chippers would go back to using paper wrapping again.

Nice wee chippy - very busy as only one in immediate area. Shuts at 9pm so not one for a late night. Bought food for a group and everyone enjoyed it.

A small hidden jewel! Take out only -- no sitting area. Fish and chips are great, but they also serve pizza, burgers, and fried chicken strips. Everything comes with chips.

Homemade fish cakes had good taste but full of bones, the mushy peas were terribly watery, awful consistency. The chips were the only saving grace. No cutlery provided not even a wooden fork. The staff seemed nice but service was slow.

They must have had an off night. The other reviews seem favourable. The food was all right, but nothing special and the staff were really moody. They also called a lot of orders before ours, from people who ordered after us.

My wife and I had The fairly new Phoenix Burger! Yum. It had cheddar and mozzarella, 4 pcs of bacon, mayo, pickles, lettuce and 3 LG battered onion rings. I don't remember what else. Came with big order of chips (American steak fries). We are going back to try more items. I'll update.

You got to hit up Shawn William's at the Phoenix Tattoo Shop in Denver off the corner of Morrison and Meade.I had a ugly tattoo 15 years ago and Shawn hooked me up with a beautiful Hawaiian Hibiscus Flower and Monarch Butterflies. Very tasty fish supper on a rainy night. All cooked fresh as we waited, and they were very friendly. I mentioned that I struggle to eat a whole portion of chips, and the lady there suggested I just get a half portion, which wasn't on the menu. Very good of her, as obviously it reduced their takings slightly.Would heartily recommend!

We were there on Wednesday evening and ordered 2x fish suppers and 2x portions of chips. We waited about half an hour! The fish was tasty but the chips weren't great.

We have enjoyed excellent carry out meals from the Phoenix for many years. Things have changed, we used to pre order and everything was fresh and ready to pick up on time. This year we tried 9 times to ring and order as usual but no one picked up the phone. On arrival we tried to order and collect later only to be told to join the end of the line of waiting customers. Apparently the phone was not answered as ‘they were busy’ and it was definitely not worth the wait for very average food. Will not be back again next month as before.

Have eaten here in prior years and it was good but this year the fish was a huge disappointment - the puddings were good and freshly cooked - definitely not like in the olden days where everything was cooked and waiting to be pulled out and wrapped!!!
