Street Box in Edinburgh, City of

This is a great option for a take away (there is some seating but it is limited by the footprint of the shop -only 3 tables). Previously, there were more vegetarian and even some vegan options but they changed the recipes and now most dishes include fish sauce. They have updated the menu to clearly indicate this, but I miss the Pad Thai 😭. There's still some choice, but a much smaller selection. Thai tea is still on the menu, but hasn't been available anytime I've come. That said, the food I can eat is delicious. The portions are reasonable and the prices are fair - especially compared to other options in the area. I would still recommend this over a chain like Rosa's Thai.

Ordered delivery through their website. High quality food, delivered quickly. The panang tao hu was excellent.

Estuvimos en Stockbridge el domingo 8 de diciembre y decidimos almorzar aquí. Recibimos una cálida bienvenida de la señora en la entrada. Mi esposa tiene ciertas alergias alimentarias, pero no fue un problema, y la señora era muy servicial con el menú. Parece que hay un montón de opciones para la comida, y nuestra comida se sirvió caliente y fresca con mucho sabor. Fue un almuerzo agradable y volveríamos para otro almuerzo en el futuro.

Apart from having an issue with delivery on just eat! And having to pay xtra for the driver to deliver it, the food definitely had that homemade satisfying taste to it, the chicken with chilli and basil was packed with flavour!!! I don’t normally finish a dish but finished every mouthful of this, it was 🤩 and will definitely order from here again, so good 👍

Amazing meal! We picked up, but super friendly lady gave us our food on time and with a big smile. A welcoming and warm atmosphere. We had given up on delivery food or takeaway food or eating out in general lately. That’s why it was such a beautiful surprise to have had the best meal for a while today. The massaman, the rice, the wings, the pad thai… everything was PERFECT! 11 out of 10 thank you so much!

The best red curry I’ve had in Europe - Paris included. The reviews weren’t lying when they said the food was exceptional. I’m still thinking about the coconut rice and curry combo I had.

One of the few places which serve natural orange juice. The italiano sandwich is a 10 of 10. The blond waitress is very kind and patient to translate English to Spanish on her mobile phone. Excelent choice!

Second time ordering. First was good - both food and promptness of pickup. Second yesterday was bad on both counts. App told me food would be ready in 25 minutes or less - was over 40 minutes. Then even though I was waiting and had given my name, the food still sat for at least 5 minutes before the staff member realized it was ready. On top of that the food itself was very disappointing. Threw out the appetizer (pork) after one bite, spring rolls were soggy, rice was overcooked. Maybe this is due to the festival season? Not sure I will try again.

We really enjoyed our meal here last month .. best pad Thai we’ve had in a long time .. and delicious curry too . The chef lovingly made a delicious non spicy plate of noodles on the house for my 4 year old who relished every bit of it !! The whole ambience is warm and welcoming ❤️ Definitely going back again .

This compact restaurant serves dishes from their menu impressivelt swiftly and the quality doesn't disappoint. Eat-in or take-away equally good. Cash payment is preferred.

Plenty of choice for vegetarians: many of their soups and mains have an options menu where you can order tofu and veg rather than meat. Portions are very generous and reasonably priced. Unlike many other Thai restaurants/takeaways in Edinburgh, none of the food I ordered was oily, bland, too hot, too salty, cloyingly sweet, etc. The Pad Thai had just enough tamarind without it being the only flavour. I asked for extra crushed peanuts, and got them. I asked for my tempura order to have no butternut squash or sweet potato, and what I received was a HUGE number of lovely, small pieces of onion, broccoli, cauliflower, and green beans in a nice very light batter. The yellow curry was the best Thai curry I've ever had: rich, mellow, and the perfect texture. It was ready in around 20 minutes. Perfect!

We just had a takeaway from Street Box and it was sooo good! Would highly recommend, I don't usually bother writing reviews but food that good, it seemed mean not to. Delivery was quicker than we expected too. Happy bellies all round.

Best Pad Thai I've ever had in Edinburgh. Speaking as a native Thai myself, this Pad Thai is even more delicious than many Pad Thais in Thailand. This restaurant is authentic Thai; the chef, the team, and the owner are Thai. So the food they make reflects the real Thai taste from Thailand.

Always delicious, authentic Thai food. Lots of choice as all curries come with a choice of meat, fish or tofu and vegetables. Food is prepared quickly and is very fresh and tasty. A range of soft drinks available or you can BYOB. Reminds us of sitting in a hawker centre in Singapore.Good amount of food and good value for money.

The Thai Red was excellent. Real authentic tasting Thai Food. I saw a few bad reviews from 2022, but ignored them as new owners have taken over Thai Street Box since February 2023. I can recommend this place as I’ve visited Thailand a few times and the food tastes just as good.

Was here with a friend on a Saturday evening. Before this would have been a few years ago. Cash only. Seating is limited and compact, the place doesn't feel very clean with layer(s) oil stains. I tried their Pad Thai with Tofu and Vegetables. It was well made, the portion was just right, but it's disappointing that tofu puffs were used instead of actual tofu pieces. Service was average.

Really amazing place with great value for money as the portions are so generous. The staff were so lovely and the food range was so hard to choose from but the drunken noodles were amazing. Will definitely be back 👍

Tasty food. We got the crispy fried tofu and the prad kra pao with steamed rice. Tasty but wish portions were a little bigger. All in all good place for lunch.

Worst pad Thai I have ever eaten. It was a pile of congealed dry rice noodles, 1 sliver of carrot, 2 slicers of cabbage, no beansprouts, no flavour and chicken you could bounce off the road. I asked for fish sauce and clearly none had been added...hideous.

The food was delicious and provided quickly. Be aware that where they say 'very spicy' it is! Thoroughly recommended.

We had dinner here last night. The food was amazing. We were together with our 2 kids, and all four of us thought everything tasted really good. Especially the pad tai was excellent. The place is small but if you're lucky you'll have a table to eat-in. Otherwise go for the take-away option. It was very busy (always a good sign!) but the people were still very friendly. We would definitely come back here if we visit Edingburgh again!

The food was honestly pretty terrible here. We got the pad thai and it tasted like noodles and vegetable oil. The spring rolls were smooshed and the chicken skewers had no flavor besides the sauce which just tasted like coconut milk. Rather disappointing experience.

I recently went for the second time to Street Box and, I have to say, the food ranks among the very best Thai food I’ve ever eaten. The drunken noodles were particularly delicious, with all the heat and rich flavour you’d want from this dish. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the service is fast - all of our food arriving within minutes. Street Box is a true hidden gem of Edinburgh - I can’t recommend it enough!

Absolutely wonderful. There are like 3 tables so it is meant for takeout. The food was fantastic and was the most affordable we found in the area. I had the pad Thai and my girlfriend had the massaman curry. It was some of the best Thai I have had since being in the country.

Had the Thai Red Curry tonight. Absolutely delicious. I’ve been to Thailand a few times and this is just as good, if not better than over in Thailand. If you want authentic, delicious Thai food this is the place to come.

Experienced a real taste of Thailand with the red Thai curry, egg fried rice and authentic iced tea. You really should take time to sample this hidden delight. Looking forward to the next visit.

Great panang, generous portions, you can tell this food is made with care and it'll quickly become my go-to takeaway. I picked it up and it was still really hot when I made it home. Love it!

I've eaten in many thai establishments in edinburgh and in Bangkok and i can say that streetbox is easily one of the worst if not the worst thai I've ever had. Everything is overpriced,has a lack of flavour and contains ingredients that are well past their best. I ordered 5 mains and spent over £40 and can easily say that there was not one acceptable dish and most of it went in the bin For anyone who thinks this is thai cooking needs to get their head checked. Avoid at all costs and go to a somewhere decent like noks kitchen or pop kitchen instead.

This place is the worst place i have ever been to for "Thai" food. Everything was either overcooked, too salty or tasteless. Avoid like the plague if you want to feel ripped off and disappointed. The good reviews for this place were for like 2-3+ years ago when it was under different management and they had different chefs. I have been to many Thai restaurants all over Edinburgh and the UK, I have Thai friends and i have also been to Bangkok too so i can safely say that this place is an insult to Thai cooking and Thailand!

Least favourite Thai place in the city. Ordered drunken noodles which were sweet and a curry which was also sweet. Unlike other Thai restaurants, the flavours are not balanced or complex. It's just sweet and watery.

Personnel adorable. Ils m ont fait un plat sur mesure pour tenir compte de mes intolerances. Le canard est juste genial et parfaitement préparé. Le pad thai est goûtu.

Starters were OK... Taste was good... But what I hate the most is to be fooled by false advertising menu... Ordered Jungle curry which supposed to be made with Thai aubergine and they put normal one in it which for me ruin the dish and my dinning experience 😡 If you think "well, that's just aubergine"... I will tell you that you don't know thai cuisine! £40 dinner for 2... I expect more than that!

Great food but website needs updated with realistic collection times. We selected a pick up time, turned up then had to wait another 25 minutes when we got there.

This is not a good place to eat in. They said we could, so we did and were served food with no plates. The plastic forks we were given snapped so they had sharp dangerous edges. Really poor.

I first went here when it opened a few years back when I had delicious food. I've been back 3 to 4 times since and the food has been getting worse every time. The previous time here I had a curry which was pretty poor. Just done a take out for 3 of us today. Most of the food was poor and the noodles were pretty much inedible. They were so hot - ridiculously hot. Won't ever be going back. Complete waste of money.

Worst Thai i have ever had in Edinburgh! Tom yum was far to salty. Beef dishes was far to dry and over cooked. Fish cakes was salty also and you can taste the frezzer smell not fresh at all. Thai green curry with just been green beans and carrots? No bamboo shoots or aubergine in this at all. Will never order from them again

When we saw the menu we were quite keen because we really enjoy our Thai food but this was disappointing. Our starters Gai Haw Bai Teauy (dry, over cooked and tasteless) and Kanom Jeep Tord (over cooked to the extent it was an indistinguishable lump of meat) didn't provide a good start, hence the review. The main courses, Kaeng Sapparod Lychee (had some redeeming features but beware the sweetness has an overriding influence) and Ped Makahm (duck was dry, sauce was thin and a bit too bitter) meant on the whole we were very underwhelmed. At least the service was friendly.

I've been here twice now and both times were amazing. Food tastes amazing, it's quick and there's enough for two meals.

First time I've used this place. Had a takeaway red curry which was excellent. Service - on the phone and in person - was great and food was ready and waiting for me on time! Will definitely be going here regularly!

I’ve only had Thai food twice before and it’s been over 10 years since my last meal, so my knowledge and taste buds are probably not as good as many others. I ordered Krong Moo Tod (Ribs) Panang (Green Curry) with Kao Suay (Jasmine boiled rice) and what a lovely surprise.The spare ribs has a lovely taste to them and came with shredded carrot, my only complaint is there was not enough of them. I’m probably comparing them to the ones we get from a local Chinese takeaway.The curry was lovely, nice warmth from chillies and a nice coconut taste. The rice was lovely, not overly sticky but I’d say about right. Yes I was impressed. The food was very tasty overall and it was not greasy at all. YES I will definitely be back for some more.Thank you.

Excellent takeaway! Best Thai take away we have ever had. Very high quality food. Duck spring rolls and duck green curry was amazing. Huge prawns and such a good quantity of food for the price! Tastes home cooked and lovely people when we picked up.

We got a sizeable Thai delivery from here last night. I usually go to Dusit but decided on a change. A big mistake. The dumplings were ok but everything else was soggy/tasteless and a waste of not inconsiderable money. The food was cheap rubbish. I will not be back and find it hard to understand how anyone could think that this food is anywhere near decent.

Ordered a takeaway the other evening . It literally came within 10 minutes of ordering so I'm assuming it wasn't cooked fresh . This tasted like food that had been cooked the day before and re heated on ordering . . Pork was like rubber and chicken dish which cost almost £10 hardly had any chicken in it .Id say around 4 or 5 dried up slices with a bunch of shredded carrots thrown over it . It was also cold. The rice was the only thing that was decent . Its a shame because i have ordered from here before and I was really impressed. The flavours of the food were really tasty but not on this evening !!!

Have never been disappointed!! Been ordering for years. The depth of flavour in the veggie dishes are honestly to die for. Love love love. And the delivery is fast, service is friendly and I cant wait to eat my way through the menu for many more years 🥰

Ordered from Street Box tonight for the first time and I’m leaving this review as it was so goo. Food was delivered quick, fresh, hot, and tasted amazing. It felt more like good home Thai cooking than a greasy takeaway. Will definitely be re-ordering! Also, had to call to make one amendment and the woman in the phone was lovely.

Having heard positive feedback about this place we were excited about our first take away. I ordered masaman curry and was disappointed due to watery sauce and in my opnion lacked the flavour expected. My husband had noodles and surprised the seasoning was in plastic bags with the food but said it tasted ok. Prawns for starter were tasty but the dressing was much heavier than we'd had before, however appreciate this is the way you make them. So overall sorry to say didn't enjoy the meal :-(

We enjoyed some lovely food from here, we were unable to sit in due to the restrictions at the time but we took the food and sat on a bench to eat it. Always very satisfying.

The food here is truly excellent and very reasonably priced. There’s a huge choice and you can’t really go wrong with whatever you pick. So sit back and enjoy the food!

The food is consistently good however as it's so small when they're busy it can take a while

Unfortunately I don't live in Edinburgh, but whenever I'm there with atleast an hour to spare I will trekk here! By far the best Thai food I've ever had! Period. Amazing. Please go if you haven't! Just be aware it's a little pricey for just how teeny the portions are, they are very very small. Probably wouldn't go here if your absolutely ravenous as I doubt a main and rice would get/keep you full for long. Apart from that no qualms, definitely a quality over quantity place.

Me and my boyfriend got hungry after visiting the Royal botanic garden, and this place was on our way back to the hotel. We ordered Panang and it was perfect! Nice spices and just what we needed as a late dinner, fast and delicious.
