Street Box in Edinburgh, City of

I’ve only had Thai food twice before and it’s been over 10 years since my last meal, so my knowledge and taste buds are probably not as good as many others. I ordered Krong Moo Tod (Ribs) Panang (Green Curry) with Kao Suay (Jasmine boiled rice) and what a lovely surprise.The spare ribs has a lovely taste to them and came with shredded carrot, my only complaint is there was not enough of them. I’m probably comparing them to the ones we get from a local Chinese takeaway.The curry was lovely, nice warmth from chillies and a nice coconut taste. The rice was lovely, not overly sticky but I’d say about right. Yes I was impressed. The food was very tasty overall and it was not greasy at all. YES I will definitely be back for some more.Thank you.

We got a sizeable Thai delivery from here last night. I usually go to Dusit but decided on a change. A big mistake. The dumplings were ok but everything else was soggy/tasteless and a waste of not inconsiderable money. The food was cheap rubbish. I will not be back and find it hard to understand how anyone could think that this food is anywhere near decent.

Ordered a takeaway the other evening . It literally came within 10 minutes of ordering so I'm assuming it wasn't cooked fresh . This tasted like food that had been cooked the day before and re heated on ordering . . Pork was like rubber and chicken dish which cost almost £10 hardly had any chicken in it .Id say around 4 or 5 dried up slices with a bunch of shredded carrots thrown over it . It was also cold. The rice was the only thing that was decent . Its a shame because i have ordered from here before and I was really impressed. The flavours of the food were really tasty but not on this evening !!!

Ordered from Street Box tonight for the first time and I’m leaving this review as it was so goo. Food was delivered quick, fresh, hot, and tasted amazing. It felt more like good home Thai cooking than a greasy takeaway. Will definitely be re-ordering! Also, had to call to make one amendment and the woman in the phone was lovely.

Como el tailandés es nuestra comida favorita, a menudo lo pedimos en restaurantes y lo cocinamos en casa. Incluso hemos tomado clases de cocina tailandesa en Bangkok. Hacer un pedido aquí fue rápido y eficiente, y nuestro pedido para llevar un viernes por la noche estaba listo en solo 15 minutos. Tasty food, friendly service. Perfect to dash into at lunchtime. A little bit on the pricey side but will definitely try it again.

Me and my boyfriend got hungry after visiting the Royal botanic garden, and this place was on our way back to the hotel. We ordered Panang and it was perfect! Nice spices and just what we needed as a late dinner, fast and delicious.

Ordered a beef thai red curry and coconut rice and the Tom yum soup, both were incredible tasting and ready in 20 minutes. Will definitely return!

We've had a few takeaways from this place and never had any problems. Competent staff and food arrives promptly. Food is never too heavy or greasy.

Can honestly say we loved the food here. Between us we had a masaman and red Thai curry with sticky rice for lunch and it was delicious and food was very hot. Service was good and the prices just right for lunch. Would definitely go back again.

Cobrar por el descorche cuando no tienes una licencia es bastante ridículo, pero estábamos dispuestos a dejarlo pasar por una buena comida tailandesa. Lamentablemente eso no fue así. La comida de mi esposo era desagradable. El mío estaba bien. . . En el precio bastante agitado quería comprobar la factura. La señora que nos atendió rápidamente trató de agregar otra libra a la cuenta. Nos fuimos, sin querer molestarnos en discutir. No pierdas tu tiempo. Hay muchos buenos lugares para comer en Edimburgo con un gran servicio.

He trabajado en Tailandia y he visitado muchas, muchas veces. Trabajo en Hong Kong y como en muchos restaurantes tailandeses. Comemos alrededor de 5 veces a la semana. Esto por más de 20 años, estoy bastante bien calificado para comentar.Esta fue la peor imitación de comida tailandesa que he probado.NO TIENEN LICENCIA, PERO INSISTEN EN CARGAR CORKAGE. NO ACEPTABLE EN CUALQUIER LUGAR DEL PLANETA, LO SIENTO.La comida bordeaba indeleblemente, ni siquiera se parecía a lo que obtengo en Hong Kong, Ciudad del Cabo, Londres, sino solo en Tailandia.Hemos comido en otros dos restaurantes tailandeses en Edinburg en la última semana y ambos eran SUSTANCIALMENTE MEJORES Y SUSTANCIALMENTE MÁS BARATOS. Con una botella de vino (trajimos la nuestra, ya que no tienen licencia) y el desierto, los demás salieron más baratos en general. Te enviaré facturas si quieres comparar.Después de no poder comer el horrible desastre que servían como comida, aún argumentaban que habían cobrado de más por el arroz y trataron de aumentarlo a 6 libras por dos miserables y ni siquiera buenos arroces en comparación con HK o Tailandia u otros en Edimburgo.Casi 30 libras por desorden no comestible.Si le compras a estos tipos estás loco, hay muchos lugares tailandeses mucho mejores en Edimburgo que ofrecen valor y gusto por tu dinero.

Lots of vegetarian options, food was served quickly and tasted amazing, just like in Thailand. Most dishes around 7.5-11£.

Love the Thai crackers and the massaman chicken. Fresh flavours and takeaway is quick and hot and great service.

Food was very average. The salad was not balanced. The main dishes had good quality meat but the balance was not there. The spring rolls were tiny. The dips were good. A lot of authentic Thai smells here but overall the standard of preparation is not great at all. It has the feel as if someone who hasn’t cooked in Thailand has tried to learn from someone here. Too pricey as well for what you get. I would order again if needed but as I say very average.

Walking into Street box was like being back in Bangkok. After an extremely disappointing meal in Passorn Thai the night before, Street Box more than made up for it. This is real Thai food and sent us all into raptures. If I lived in Edinburgh I would eat here every week. Heaven! Thank you Street Box for making our day.

Had impromptu take away here and the smells took me back to Thailand. The only thing I'd say is that their dipping sauces do lack a bit of balance - I'd say they are probably too sweet and agree with the other reviewer on this. Also they don't label the dips so it's difficult to know which dip is supposed go with which dish when you get a mixed starter.

I will always pop in to Streetbox for a quick takeaway dinner if we fancy Thai. The service is lovely and quick and I've always been impressed with the food and the vegetarian options. It's on the more expensive side but I've always found it to be worth it.

I’ve eaten here before a year or so ago,and it was very tasty and reasonably priced. Tonight was a major disappointment. 2 soups as takeaway. One was very sweet and basic,the other was basically the same soup but with sweet coconut milk poured in. I left half of it,it tasted more like a salty runny pudding.

Not 'excellent'. It has some great flavours but falls short of its potential. I have tried a range of dishes and experienced an overwhelming theme of excessive sweetness. They should quality control or have a word with their chefs. If I had wanted a deep-fried Mars bar I would have gone to a dodgey chip shop, not an expensive Thai restaurant. Also one piece of chicken had a strange grey colouration - what was that all about?

I asked for green curry not lumpy grey tasted disgusting will never go back And it's the price of a restaurant

Excited to try but ultimately disappointed. Maybe they were having an off day but other reviews suggest that they have quite a few of those.

We popped in here for lunch and got a very friendly welcome from the staff. The menu is extensive and the food was served quickly. I got some coconut soup which was perfect for a cold December day and some dumplings. Both were fresh and delicious. Everything on the menu was very reasonably priced. Will definitely be back.

Stumbled over this wee place and have used it quite a few times, food is so fresh and tasty, authentic as hell, the portions are huge, cant fault it at all . suggested to many folks we have spoken to.

Ordered a takeaway for the 4 of us with a variety of starters and mains for £70 (almost same as nearby good Thai restaurant). The ingredients were cheap frozen vegetables and frozen fish/ meat mixed with some usual Thai flavors but not particular tasty nor anything I had sample in the streets of Bangkok s night markets - we will not order or visit again. Also to mention that I order 2 hours in advance asking to pick up the food at specific time but still had to wait 15 minutes...not well organized....

I'm originally from Scotland, but I grew up in Thailand - spending 12 years in total. In a nutshell, I love Thai food and I like to think of myself as an expert! I have tried for 8 years in Edinburgh to find Thai food that tastes delicious and is true to flavour - in the end I came to the conclusion that the only place I would find tasty Thai food would actually be in Thailand. However today I stumbled on Street Box, my hopes weren't high by any means but thought I would give it a go. I was so impressed. The staff were absolutely lovely and the food was really delicious. I wouldn't say the food was absolutely perfect, however it was super close and it is without a doubt the best Thai I've had in Edinburgh. I'm really fussy with the quantity and quality of meat in a dish - all of our dishes were packed with meat, flavour and vegetables. I can't wait to return to try even more of the menu options.

We had a long lunch here and food the food was ok. I was kind of hoping for something really special - quick and fresh Thai street food, but what we had turned out to be your usual takeaway fair. Not bad, but just a bit disappointing given the set up. If we lived nearby we would order takeaway from them, but probably wouldn't visit again in person.

Had 5 dishes from this establishment and for me it was quite bland. One of our dishes was a chicken green Thai curry which I can actually make better than what I tasted last night.

this is a small but very good eatery in the heart of what can be busy Stockbridge. I have had the food delivered and also had a sit it the quality is the same

I ordered a Take Away at 8pm and I get a phonecall at 9.15pm which we missed, called back told number not available twice then I got a call again from the driver saying he has taken the food back to the shop, I asked why he said you were not in and I said I am and he got quite argumentative saying I wasn't so I said I would test the buzzer.

my wife and i walked in off the street and had an incredible meal here! completely unassuming but completely brilliant. if you are looking for great quality thai food then this should be your first stop in the area.

Wonderful hole in the wall restaurant, we had Singapore style and Pad Thai noodles, both were delicious. Whole meal only cost £20 which felt a bargain given the high quality.

Managed to get a seat at the table here yesterday around 6.00pm, the place is small, seats maybe 10/12 at any time, had starters of prawn and crab parcels and chicken wrapped in leaves, prawn parcels were sublime, chicken was a bit dry, but tasty, mains were red thai with prawns, absolutely to die for, such a big portion too, with loads of vegs as well, other main was mixed seafood in an oyster sauce, so many large prawns, scallops, squid, swordfish, and loads of veg, so big, loved it, made the error of having 2 fried rice, hardly touched the rice as mains were so big and tasty. will be back..love the cold lemon water on tap...

I've eaten at Street Box and its previous incarnation, Ruan Siam, for years, and the food has always been reliably delicious, and service smiley and welcoming. They've got plenty of choice for vegans like myself, and the food is always hot and fresh.

My boyfriend and I visited Street Box for a Saturday lunch. We both really enjoyed it and will definitely be returning. The food is fresh and delicious and good value for the quality we received. It is tiny inside but well decorated which adds to the experience. My boyfriend was delighted to find that they deliver to his postcode so we will definitely be placing a delivery order soon. We highly recommend if you like Thai food.

One Shared starter (AMAZE), duck Penang curry, king prawn wok dish, rice and soft noodles.

Living near here, this is our most used takeaway. Service is great and whoever picks up the phone when we order is always very friendly. Our only complaint is that they sometimes get the order wrong - this has happened a few times. However, when we have phoned to sort it out the staff have always been really good about it and this definitely won't stop us from continuing to use Streetbox! (The food is too good.)

We spent a few weeks nearby here and this tiny little stop became our favorite. The green curry was excellent, and the menu was enough that we went more than once a week. It's a simple spot with limited seating, and mostly for take-away, but the food is freshly prepared, authentic, and delicious.

I get takeaways from StreetBox once or twice a month, and have always found the food delicious and the staff very friendly and welcoming. They have a good range of vegetarian/vegan options, and will modify non-veg dishes on their menu if they can. It's a nice quirky place with one or two tables, a few counter seats, and takeaway.

Staying with friends in the area, we wanted a Thai meal, delivered to their home, but could not decide where to order. Conveniently on the way to Stockbridge’s good pubs, we ordered on the return journey and the very good meal was very quickly delivered to the house.

The food we ordered tonight was the best thai food we have had. The tamarind duck is amazing, as is the chicken and prawn dumplings. Everything tasted really fresh.

Since moving to the area in September 2017, this place has genuinely been one of my favourite places to eat in the city. Delicious aromatic food, super friendly staff, very reasonably priced, lovely atmosphere and consistent high quality food each time I visit! Whether that be a quick “Street Box chicken pad thai” which is £6.50 for a hefty wee lunch portion or an incredibly curry and other delights shared between my friends and I for dinner. If I could give this place more than five ⭐️’s, trust me I would. Just go check it out for yourselves, and you’ll see what the craic is!

Small and cosy thai restaurant in Stockbridge. I went classic and got a pad Thai which did not disappoint- large portions were a plus. Be wary of the table spices...hot hot. They do take-out!

Ordered a bit of a feast....one look at the menu and our eyes were bigger than our bellies! Great flavours, big portions, already looking forward to a return visit.

We stumbled across this dinky wee eaterie/takeaway while having an evening walk. Service friendly with good choices to suit all palates on menu. Food was excellent, vegetables lovely and crunchy, meat and prawns cooked just right. Will definatley be back!

I had a lovely meal here, the thai food was excellent. I decided to sit in (there is not much room) and although it is a takeaway really, it was good fun, lots of hustle and bustle and I’d do it again.

Still really good. I love the yellow chicken curry, pad Thai and a new dish I tried for lunch with prawns, chicken and vermicelli noodles. Don’t like the pork dishes though the pork is chewy

I’ve been coming here before an evening class for the last eight weeks - food is consistently delicious very THAI with the 4 flavours of heat, sweet , sour and salt Service is fast and friendly always with cold water flavoured with a lemon All for reasonable cost. What’s not to like! Lots to watch with folk coming in and out for takeaways and a busy Stockbridge Street

I really dislike downright negative TripAdvisor reports but, having given them 2 opportunities to explain the abysmal quality of the food we received last week, I'm concerned they don't really care. 4 separate curries - beef, chicken & veg, and chicken satay. All 'meat' was hard and chewy, all curries contained tasteless crinkle cut carrots, all sauces were watery and had no flavour. Looked and smelt unappealing and tasted worse. It was also nearly half an hour late which would have been OK had the food been any good.

I had passed street box numerous times and always was meaning to go in. My friend and I decided to give it a try one evening and I am so glad we did! The restaurant itself is quite small so we decided to take away. The food was ready in less than 10 minutes and we could see the Thai chef's preparing it from fresh.

Small place with few places to sit, but the food was exceptional - served quickly and all dishes were outstanding.

We ordered home delivery takeaway twice during our Edinburgh stay. It was a great menu to choose from. A reasonable wait for freshly cooked food. We did feel our "sticky rice" portion was more like a half portion! We ordered a beef curry and that was mixed quality in that some of the beef was tender but some was tough! Portions are on the small side and price on high side in light of that.

Came here and got dinner one night, starters and mains, with my boyfriend. Although my starter was delicious, I wasn't too impressed with mains, but the opposite applied to my boyfriend's meal; his starters weren't great, but he was really happy with the mains (so much so he went back the next night).

I love it here and have been quite a few times, every time i bring someone for the first time they like it. My favourite is the prawn Pad Thai but the green and red curries are great. My mum is vegetarian and liked the tofu curry. It's good value for money and really tasty and authentic :)

We ordered 4 mains and each came with the same chopped carrots and green beans on top so difficult to see which was which. Red curry was so unbelievably hot without any surrounding flavour it was inedible, green curry was smeared on the fish so not enough to tell if it was good or not. The expensive dishes were NOT worth it as the food that was served up didn't mirror the description. Rice portions tiny. All in all total rip off and will not return.

Very good pad thai (with extra chilli flakes and nuts to sprinkle over it). But the green curry was a bit watery (albeit nicely zingy). They also got our order wrong. But we will be back for more of that pad thai at least....

We really enjoyed the takeaway. Second visit and both time good food. Nice green curry, tried all types of rice and free Thai crackers. Well worth a try.

I LOVE streetbox and I wish they had a restaurant. And I wish I knew what time they open as it says 2pm on some things and 1pm on others. I only order the same 2 things but they are so good. The pad thai is my favourite ever pad thai. This place is way better than Ting Thai Caravan. I just wish it was open from noon.

This is a great little place.. I visit often and rarely let down.. Once or twice the rice portion was not great but the flavoursome dishes are usually spot on..

Brilliant place ... worth a visit

The Street Box is a good little Thai take away and restaurant with a fairly traditional menu. There are a few seats if you want to eat in. The Massaman and Thai Green and Red Curries are worth a try. A small bag of prawn crackers come with each order.

I haven't actually sat down at the restaurant, but ordered takeaway as its around the corner. I had the tofu pancakes, and vegetarian stir fry - both were excellent. Highly recommend for good Asian food, which is hard to come by in Edinburgh.

I don't know what to say other than it was absolutely delicious. My mouth is still burning a little and in a great way. Maybe a little pricey for takeaway but so worth it. I'm not a Thai connoisseur as many people purport to be but the food was so, so good. Would eat there all the time.
