Rose Street Cafe in Edinburgh, City of

I visited with a friend and her 5 month old child. When we entered my friend struggled in with a pram - limited space for this due to the amount of tables crammed in to the cafe space itself. We placed our orders (1 bacon roll and 1 sausage roll) as well as a couple of hot drinks. The drinks were delivered promptly which was great, however the rolls did not follow. After around 15 minutes we noticed multiple staff standing around and nobody cooking so clearly our order had been forgotten - indeed we had to question where the food was before it was even acknowledged. When the rolls were finally delivered, they were average at best - sausages dry and the bacon over done unfortunately. When paying, I felt a pressure to apply a gratuity (unsurprisingly I did not) as well as this, my friend was sorting out the pram and making sure everything was taken away, but there seemed to be pressure on us to leave as we had a table at the window that the staff wanted to clear. I had to ask the server to back up and give us a few minutes to get things sorted before we would leave. In the end we left and stood outside sorting the pram in the street (not a good experience at all for a new mother who was clearly stressing about making sure her child was correctly strapped in whilst being chased out of a cafe under pressure). Overall, just not good enough for the price paid. £15+ for 2 rolls and 2 hot drinks seems excessive.

Such great customer service and a lovely atmosphere. The food here is genuinely worth every penny and such great quality that we came back several times during our stay.

Used to enjoy frequenting here but it’s went downhill the last couple of years. Very overpriced now and they also look for a service charge when paying the bill.

Nice breakfast/brunch cafe, a little overpriced in my opinion, however it is placed in the centre of the New Town in Edinburgh and very close to the main train station. Food was very tasty and we were not rushed out, we could peacefully wait for our train. Nice, friendly staff

Warm and quiet . The staff were very attentive. Toilets were clean and spacious.

We landed here Thursday morn in Beautiful Edinburgh found this cafe by accident as we were lost 😆. So glad we did food great avocado toast best I've had and omelettes delicious ,coffee best in Edinburgh defo recommend .

I popped in just to quench my thirst. My partner had an appletizer and I had a coke zero. The staff were friendly and attentive. I did have a look at the menu even though we weren't eating this time and there was lots of options. Other peoples food looked nice and everyone seemed happy! It was clean and bright. I would come here for lunch if I was in Edinburgh again.

Nice quiet place to eat some late breakfast / early lunch. Friendly service & a lot of options to choose from. We ordered an all day breakfast, french toast with bacon & a baked potato with beans and cheese for our family. All were tasty. French toast was very filling. Overall good experience :)

Service was terrible the staff were very rude I don’t understand why you would open a business in a busy part of town and have staff that can’t speak a word of English, food wasn’t the best but could have been worse,

If you’re looking for a wonderful and affordable breakfast, try the cheesy egg croissant. I ordered it 2 days running since it was so delicious. Very kind wait staff and their toasties were fabulous too.

Absolutely shocking, incredibly cheap food, took over an hour for them to make it, couldn’t eat half of if it, Value smart price food. Honestly the worst fry up I’ve ever had for about £14!

Went in here at lunchtime as the overall rating on TripAdvisor was good. Ordered a fry up and egg & bacon on toast. We waited almost an hour for it to arrive, even though there were plenty of staff in the kitchen and no other orders ahead of us. Just when we thought we must have been forgotten, our food turned up, portions were meagre and quality dreadful. As others have said, the food is clearly from Lidl, it’s the cheapest possible items they can source. My partner left her meal unfinished, as did the family sat next to us. At nearly £30 for two, we would have been far better off going to the Wetherspoons up the road, where the food is basic but still an improvement on this muck. I do worry about the people who have rated the food here highly, as they must be eating a lot of terrible food!

Lovely Scottish breakfast good value for money with good service too

May need to rethink advertising that a meal is vegan the you can blatantly see the vegan items(falafel wrap and chips) cooked on a grill that’s grilling meat simultaneously whilst also handling meat between preparing the vegan meal without washing hands. And also the falafel and chips are both fried in the same frier as chicken fillets for the burgers. All in all disappointing practices from a restaurant that openly advertises the items as vegan

Very satisfying breakfast served by kind and friendly people on a Sunday morning. Got the vegetarian breakfast and the French toast along with warm drinks. Sufficient portions for both the belly and the mind. Nice and easy. Would recommend, especially for tourists new to the city.

We were looking for a breakfast place behind Princes Street at around 11 am. Most of the places on the street are restaurants that cater to lunch/dinner. After walking a bit, we came across Rose Street Cafe. It's a small place but was buzzing with customers. My criteria for a good place to eat is one that is busy, which is an indicator of its popularity. I tried their English Breakfast (I am still not brave enough to go for Scottish breakfast/haggis). The food was great.

Decided to go here for brunch as a nice treat for the end of our holiday,the food looked amazing and we were both looking forward to our brunch,the waitress took our order and we waited....and waited and after 3/4 hour we noticed other people arriving and getting served before us,we went to the counter to see where our order was and we were told the waitress forgot to put our order through...no apology whatsoever they couldnt have cared less so we walked out and found a great cafe further down the street

Absolutely awful ! Putting meat on a vegetarian breakfast is unforgivable. Mixed up meat sausage and haggis with veggie and put in wrong breakfast. When pointed out chef just smirked. Not good enough!

Lorne sausage & potato scone roll was delicious, and the fresh orange juice was perfect! I had breakfast here two years prior, and came back & ate here two mornings in a row because it was so good.

A very nice restaurant to have a delicious classic Scottish dinner in, the service was great, the food was great, and atmosphere was very fun. There is bar downstairs(which we didn’t go to) and an amazing restaurant portion on the second floor!

Woke up on our 2nd day in Edinburgh really craving a proper breakfast, quick search on google brought up Rose Street Cafe as it was only a couple doors down from where we were staying. The experience wasn't awful but didn't wow us. It was ok. Food was alright.

A lovely little cafe I was happy to fin out that they have all day breakfast menu as it was 11:40 am , and they have a nice selection of sandwiches . The breakfast and sandwiches all served fresh and warm .

After more than 20 visits to Scotland, simply the best Scottish breakfast I have ever had!! Potato scone soft and fresh, Lorne (square) sausage delicate & tender. Egg cooked perfectly. Even the toast was a dream! Staff were friendly and service fast. Price was less than at my hotel around the corner. Eat here!!!

Having been awake 26 hours by the time we landed in Edinburgh, we were in dyer need of food. A quick Google for "vegetarian breakfast" and this cafe was top of the list in Edinburgh, and for a good reason. A short stroll from the Princes Street Tram Stop and down a lane was the cafe. We were greeted by a lovely lady, whose name we forgot to get, but she's the one with the fab DJ nails! We ordered two veggie breakfasts and had a great chat with the server. Food arrived piping hot within 20 minutes. Well, it was scoffed. Absolutely delicious. It was my partners first time having veggie haggis and tattie scones, and she is now addicted. The best veggie breakfast in Edinburgh in our opinion. We liked it that much we stopped off before our flight home. We will be back again the next time we visit Edinburgh. Amazing staff & fantastic food 👌 👏

One of the best breakfasts I've had in a while. Staff so attentive. I got a veggie breakfast and my other half got the scottish breakfast. Chai latte was gorgeous, freshly squeezed orange juice also perfect. Happy customers

No clue what the high ratings are about. About average food. Food took a long time to arrive even though there was only a couple other customers. Poorly ventilated in the winter, the smell from cooking was thick and pungent.

Very nice and helpfull staff. Haggis here was really spicy. It had heavy taste after black pepper. Gravy wasnt so salty so you can manage the taste how do you like. In the back is beef burger. My son said it was tasty and returned empty plate. In the restaurant is also a lot cakes choices. Sudenly i didnt had room for the dessert because they have Armenian dessert Marlenka ❤️❤️❤️❤️ which you definitely must try (the black one 😅) if you dont know it.

Not bad. Not great either. I had the Scottish Breakfast. The mushrooms and the haggis were my favorite parts. One side of my toast was burnt. My wife had the British Breakfast, and she didn’t like the black pudding. Everything on our plates seemed kind of carelessly thrown together. Though I wasn’t expecting anything special, since I knew this was a casual diner, I was hoping for good cooking. 2.5 stars.
