Popped in on impulse as my Mum fancied some chips and a drink. It was quite near to closing time however that didn't change the warm welcome that we got as soon as we walked through the door. The ambience is bright and cheery, the artwork and photos add to the vibe and the menu is varied and reasonably priced. The order was taken at the table, the service was very quick and the food (chips) were generous and delicious - hot, light and crispy. The couple who served us could not have been more attentive or helpful and despite it being near to closing time we weren't rushed or made to feel uncomfortable. Whether you pop in for a drink, a snack or a proper meal I think the experience would be the same. Why not enhance your day with a visit to this little gem!
absolutely amazing service, friendly all around , food came fast and tasted brilliant, portion sizes were filled to the brim too all for good prices too
The whole evening was really very special. The food was outstanding; not only the amazing flavours but also the attention to detail and amount of work that had clearly gone into the dishes.
Having Alex and his team take the time to present and explain each of the courses made it a unique experience.
My husband and I both felt it was the best tasting menu and the most enjoyable experience we have had.
Such lovely food yet the service let you down. The lamb was cooked well and fell apart. Naan bread thin, crispy and tasty. Great flavours all round, Sadly we seemed to have been overlooked during our dining. We were offered one drink in the 1 hour and 45 minutes we sat in the restaurant. We also didn’t receive the chef’s complimentary amuse bouches, despite seeing other tables having them. We weren’t offered dessert or coffees either. Upon payment of the bill we did mention the service to the waiter, he said they were understaffed. Such a shame!
These guys need a lesson in manners and customer service. I understand it’s not a great job stuck in a smelly van all day but at least treat your customers better. Food is bang average and you’ll need to remortgage your house to pay for it. £25 for 2 chicken wraps??? Absolute clowns mate!!!
As so many reviews testify ‘Shoal’ has to be the best fish and chip restaurant we have ever experienced. Nicely designed, clean and comfortable restaurant setting or takeaway the choice is yours. In the restaurant all the staff are friendly, chatty in a good way and helpful - after we had finished we were asked “Do you want the bill or to chill?” which is an absolute first: in so many places the bill would have appeared as a means to get us out of the door and free up the table. Food? Perfectly cooked haddock in light batter, ‘proper’ chips, minted peas and good tartare sauce. We weren’t drinking but short wine list is good by the bottle or reasonably priced glass. There are
no shortage of places to eat in Winchester and ‘Shoal’ is deservedly one of the best.
We came for a private birthday party… wow! From the moment we arrived the service and attention was awesome , and very special… what a gorgeous couple ..how the dishes that kept appearing were produced in the tiny kitchen space was unbelievable… the food was delicious , and the wine was amazing …lemon cello yummi and nothing g too much trouble … oh and the baked Alaska a triumph! Absolute yum! We will be back
Have been to shoal many times and what is fabulous the food is as amazing every time cooked to perfection. Batter that melts on your tongue simple delicious 😋 the staff always very polite and it’s spotlessly clean . A real treat .
We visited the restaurant last year and the food was amazing ,booked for valentines night and we was shocked at how different the experience was ,the food was cold. Service slow ,£8 for 4 thin slices of aubergine, told we had all our dishes but infact were 4 short ,told staff food was cold and on return it had clearly been blasted by the microwave ,tasteless food never again ,oh and had to eat tapas with no plate ,but the cocktails were delicious,
I have recently decided to try Veganism but like most Vegans I don't like to talk about it ;-) Looking for Vegan food of high quality in Eastbourne, is fairly difficult. A few restaurants offer "vegan options" but that usually means taking the ham or chicken out of something and hoping that will do. Not acceptable these days.
So we tried Green Bros. It's hidden away from the centre of town but not really that far, behind the Grand Hotel.
The guys here are very passionate about their food and also friendly and knowledgeable. They will even tell you how they make things if they have time. The food was great and the wine, reasonable.
If you are unsure about the Vegan thing...have the Doner Kebab. It's epic! (And fully Vegan...tell everyone!)
