Visited this pub last year and the service, the food and atmosphere was so much better. Visited this Easter Saturday and it's gone massively downhill. The food was inedible, the draft lineup was terrible, I would normally drink a decent lager or cider but now they have terrible choices. The battered fish was the worse I ever tasted, couldn't eat it, oil tasted extremely old. I know this pub has recently been taken over buy expected so much more. So much more expensive than previous, I would avoid this pub like the plague, much better pubs in Lyndhurst.

As I was working in Lyndhurst I decided to book an hotel overnight stay as a treat. I chose the Stag as the price was competitive and close to my work. As it was a Friday night the bar/restaurant was busy and bustling with a good atmosphere. I was welcomed by a charming young gentleman who could not have been more warm, friendly and welcoming. I ate in the restaurant, which was very good. There was a slight mix up with my room reservation but this was quickly and efficiently sorted. The twin room I had been allocated was huge! Spotlessly clean apart from a wee that had been left I flushed in the loo. As it is a very old listed building, the windows do allow in a lot of noise, however a sign in the room explained that work will be carried out in 2025 to rectify this. Earplugs were very thoughtfully provided so the noise from the bar below did not affect sleep. Unfortunately had to check out too early in order to enjoy breakfast. All in all a pleasant stay with great staff.

Truly awful - and no suitable toilets. The food we were served was below average, the coffees were unfortunately not good at all. The service from the woman running the cafe was disgraceful. She seemed off from the outset, and was downright rude in the end after one of our group was reduced to tears by her behaviour. Most importantly the toilet was not suitable for visitors to use, you have to squeeze through the kitchen which is open to the seating area to get to the toilet, which is extremely close to where food is being prepared and completely inaccessible for anyone with mobility issues. The toilet door did not shut, so the woman who runs the cafe had to slam shut another door in order for there to be any privacy (and any level of hygiene), which then resulted in one of our party being trapped inside the toilet unable to get out. When another member of our party was eventually able to force the door open from the outside and the person who was trapped was understandably shaken at the experience, the women running the cafe had the nerve to tell her to calm down, and then denied having said anything at all. All in all it was a horrendous experience, no redeeming features - this unfortunate situation could have been helped with a kind manner but instead was made much worse. Avoid. We will be making a formal complaint to the food standards agency. A bizarre and upsetting experience!

We hadn't eaten in the Fox and Hounds for a couple of years as our last experience wasn't great. I am pleased to say we gave it another go. They even did their set menu on a Bank Holiday Monday. We all had 3 courses and all were very good. Delicious home made soup, 3 different main courses and treacle tart and sticky toffee pudding. However without doubt the stand out dish was the caprese salad. It was soooo good! Also a massive shout out to Rebecca, a true hospitality professional and a credit to the Fox and Hounds. We will be back 🙂

A real mixed bag here. Lovely pub, great setting, friendly staff but some of the food was sub par. Ordered a stone baked pizza, definitely not stone baked! Shop bought base…. Like a pizza from school dinners! Complained to waitress and she said she will tell them! The elusive ‘them’ and that was it, no explanation of why it was poor and what they intended to do about it! Poor poor service. Other food was ok tbf. Shame the poor customer service ruined the meal. £12 for a school dinner pizza. I’d avoid the pizza if you go and don’t complain as it will fall on deaf ears!

We’ve given this hotel a rating based on what level of service and accommodation we felt we experienced. Bartley Lodge is in a beautiful setting, well located in the New Forest and with some decent public spaces for guests. However, the upkeep of the rooms (particularly old, saggy mattresses) a slightly nonchalant impression from the staff and just an ok breakfast left us feeling on the whole underwhelmed. The pool was a real disappointment. Lots of potential that isn’t quite being met currently.
