Waterloo Arms in New Forest

Found this pub on the Internet before we went to Brockenhurst for 4 nights. Short taxi ride from our hotel. Lovely okde worlde pub. Good service, very good food snd good value for money particularly the wine. Would def visit again

At Waterloo napoleon did surrender as did I to the charms of this fabulous pub. It's got character and charm in abundance. Ticked all the boxes for the quintessential great British boozer. Voudriez vous? Aha.

Outstanding service, great food and prices

We arrived on a Sunday normally we only go weekdays the carpark empty the outside underneath area empty and all outside empty only few inside told they were full and they would get confused if we ate outside so sent away. I'm glad they did as the white rabbit was full but served us in bar

Lovely pub and great staff but food was a big let down ....roast lunch the beef over cooked and a bit tough. The gravy looked as though it had been stood for ages on the beef. Others had others had fish pie , leek pie ...and all felt the food was poor ....

We visited for dinner early on a Monday evening (about 17:30) so we were the only people there. The welcome was warm and the food was lovely (almost a retro menu which was great).

Big family meal with 3 dogs. Excellent service and food. We particularly appreciated the good range of vegetarian and vegan options. And enjoyed the sunshine in the garden after we had eaten.

This is a lovely old pub not far from the centre of Lyndhurst. It is a very friendly place and the staff are lovely. The food is very good. Try the chicken casserole with chunks of crusty bread, which was delicious and very filling. The chicken and mushroom pie is also lovely. There is a very wide variety of food on the menu and the specials board and the prices are very reasonable.

Lovely pub nicely decorated with wooden ceiling beams and antiques on the walls. Good food, dog friendly, and pleasant staff.

Ate here two nights after disappointing dinner in hotel. The menu was extensive and good specials. The food was better than your average pub grub with good beer and service.

Some people might complain service was slow but I would say it was busy and actually very efficient. Really good ambience and a proper pub feel. Just be patient and enjoy the experience, you won't regret it.

Very friendly, welcoming pub. Many years I've passed through Lyndhurst never aware of its existence until yesterday. Lyndhurst's best kept secret.

Best place to eat for Adults and Children. The food here is perfect and the service amazing. They have a good Childrens menu and all items come in small or large plates which is a great idea.

Had lunch with a friend today peas were like bullets and treacle pudding very hard and dry plus cold custard. When I went to the bar to pay the bill I saw the specials menu sadly we were not made aware of these choices. Sadly not the best lunch

Nothing not to like about this quaint, traditional New Forest pub! Lovely atmosphere, really friendly staff and a fabulous Sunday roast dinner. Top drawer and we have already booked a return visit. Value for money was good too.

Absolutely loved this place when we visited recently following a Sunday morning stroll through Emery Down. This pub is a hidden off the main road behind the police station on the outskirts of Lyndhurst. We managed to squeeze into the rammed carpark and then grab the last table tucked away in the corner for what turned out to be a lovely roast. Service was super friendly and despite being rammed timings were well managed and wait times were absolutely fine. One nut roast and one mixed meat roast ordered we sat down enjoying our drinks. The atmosphere here is quaint rustic pub with traditional beams and brasses and is just what a New Forest pub should be. Food arrived and was in my mind the perfect portion size. Not gigantic enough for you to get the meat sweats but enough to fully satisfy you. Pork, beef and chicken all cooked perfectly with roasties, veggies and a Yorkshire pudding- just as it should be. The condiments that are in sachets are supplied with a tiny pair of scissors so you can open them easily whilst the others like mint sauce, apple sauce, horseradish etc are all ordered when the food is served and provided in small paper cups - nothing particularly unusual here but lots of choice and good planning for a seamless meal. Food was sensational, flavoursome, beautifully cooked and tasty, we were told that the roasts were cooked in small batches to ensure nothin was too dry or overdone. I would say that this is probably the best pub roast we have had certainly of recent times. We have booked to come back and I would urge anyone to give this place a go, it’s well worth it.

Quaint little pub with reasonable priced pub grub

Staff polite and friendly. Order taken quite quickly, roast pork ordered advertised as with cracknel, none available.meal came out very quickly, .vegetables obviously from lunchtime just kept warm. Burger slightly over cooked. Peach and apple crumble ordered crumble topping stodgy and lumpy, required to helpings of cream, unfortunately stalk of apple in one serving, staff did offer to change and cost removed. From entering pub to time of leaving was just over an hour, felt completely rushed.

What can I say been here multiple times food is well portioned hot and tasty the service is quick and the beer well looked after

Food is generally very good. Fish and chips x2 and a ploughman’s all very generous in portions. Only slight nag was that the batter was particularly thick so some may find it too heavy. Smaller options are available for all meals which is great if you are around for lunch or a smaller dinner. Desserts are a must and are well priced too for homemade desserts. Be aware this place does now put service charge on which can be taken off. Drinks prices are on the low side too for the area. Would return.

Stayed in the forest lodge Hotel next door👍 And decided to have dinner at the Wellington arms. Whole plaice was on the menu so 3 of our party ordered. Well, it was a revelation, stonking fresh & perfectly cooked, a great experience, one of the nicest fish meals in a long time. I called for the Chef and congratulated him, it was that good. Well done Wellington arms.

Fabulous is an understatement! New Year's Eve was amazing. The very happiest of ambience and customers in this wonderful country pub. The fun and joyous feeling was fantastic and the outstandingly delightful Staff made it an occasion never to be forgotten.

What a fantastic find this pub was. They do food for smaller appetites, although the half-sized chilli con carne was a full meal. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was very pleasant. I imagine everyone congregating here if there was a local power cut for a pint and a sing song!

Just quick drink and enjoyed the ambiance, great decor staff very efficient.

The food was delicious and the service was great! A friend and I use the pub as our half way meeting place and we love it!

Visited this pub for the first time with friends for a social catch up and to have something to eat. First of all, when you enter the pub it just invites you in with its welcoming ora that has that cosy feel for this time of year. The staff were very pleasant and professional and we had a good laugh with them, credit to the management. The food selection was good with many options to choose from and the standard of food was exceptional with good size portions. Prices are also very good for the quality food and drinks. This venue comes highly recommended by the five of us who recently visited The Waterloo Arms. We will definitely be returning there soon. Thank you for making our evening.

Terrible food. Reheated food, all of it. Really bad salad - not a difficult one. Service was very fast (well when you reheat, it comes faster!). Nice little pub otherwise, but just bad food

Oh dear! Surprising to read such good reviews. As soon as we got there I realised I had made a mistake booking here. As we arrived the Manager was so busy looking at her screen it took her a few minutes to acknowledge us. Our table was just outside the toilets, one of the chairs was broken and unsafe, so we changed that, but it was just left for another customer to use. The food was plentiful, but not good quality - one of the roast potatoes was black and rock hard. The whole place is very shabby and in need of some tlc. Sorry guys but we will not be back, that said you seemed to be doing very good trade.

Came for Sunday lunch today. Arrived at 1. Three full Sunday roasts on the table by ten past. Food was piping hot and plentiful. Specific requests were all fulfilled accurately. Staff are all polite, friendly and efficient. Best Sunday roast I've had in the area for a while. Recommended.

Great, no nonsense pub grub. Pate to start beef lasagne as mains. Some good brews, cheers.

Visited this pub a number of times during a stay at a nearby hotel and can’t recommend it enough. Lovely cosy pub, with great atmosphere, very friendly staff, a great food menu and drink choice, and they were very accommodating to our two dogs and young family

An Old School pub that does everything right. Having looked at the menu online I expected good reliable food. In reality, it was better than that. The welcome and service was very friendly and professional. The specials board had a good selection if additions to the menu. The food was of a good quality, well cooked and very tasty. The option of a small plate is really good, and whilst smaller, the portion size was still very reasonable. We also had one of the nicest desserts in a pub we have had for a long time. Prices were very good. I return to the service, because in an age when customer service is lacking, the Waterloo Arms has bucket loads. The question is not if we return, but when?

One of my favourite pubs in the new forest. We visited twice this year on our annual visit to the forest. Great selection of beers and food. The menu is extensive plus they have specials that change regularly. All homecooked food served with a smile.. lovely staff.. thoroughly enjoyed.

It’s one of those pubs where the creaky front makes you wonder what you’re stepping into . The door opens and wow , what customer service , greeted with a friendly smile and a “ Hello how can we help you , eating, drinking or both “ Fantastic choice of drinks and fabulous delicious home cooked food . We were staying nearby for two nights and ate here both nights and for a few drinks during the day . All staff were Great , Laura was Great and the cosy friendly Pub was all round great , we will be back , worth a visit if you haven’t been before.

My wife and I and dog visited here the last two evenings for a meal and drinks,can’t fault anything at all,nice staff,good food and drink at very reasonable prices a thing of the past nowadays in most pubs!It is a great idea to offer the smaller portions must save a lot of waste!Add to all that what a lovely old pub it is outside and in,wish we lived nearer.

It's a nice location, the food I had was okay burger was dry, but still tasty. The staff were really nice, besides the dryness of the burger, they put me next to the toilets and people were coming in and out constantly, not the nicest experience or smell🤣

As two couples we called in tonight for drinks. We ended up having a two course dinner and more drinks. Really nice specials. Large portions of prawns and large portions of scallops. Really good service from all the staff. Highly recommend.

A great pub building to visit within the New Forest. Very friendly and attentive staff were always obliging. A comprehensive menu offering really nice cuisine was enjoyed by all.

Our 1st visit to this pub,and it won't be the last,made to feel welcome as soon ad we walked in,we were given a table no trouble at all,as we didn't book,spur of the moment idea, Service was very good,portion size was more than we expected,but you can never have to much Sunday roast,my partner had the Roast Pork,I had the mixed 3 meats,served on hot plates,a big plus,didn't have to wait to long from order to table,not that we were in a rush,looking forward to a return visit,Will try a midweek visit and try something else off the menu if its anything like the Roast i don't think we will be disappointed.Thank you for one of the best Roasts we've had in a long time,👍

Great country pub serving good hearty food (even did a small size for those not as hungry). The staff were so friendly and welcoming. Do yourself a favour and stop in for a bite to eat or even just a drink, plenty to choose from. I'll be back.

Me my wife and Bella 🐕 enjoyed 2 fantastic gluten free dinners after a long days walkies. First occasion was a yummy fish and chips followed by syrup sponge and custard. Second occasion was a 12" pizza followed by sticky toffee pudding (I know piggy) Service was really friendly. They even brought a sausage out for 🐕 We recommend

While the atmosphere and the service is amazing, the food is super bad... Visit it by all means, but don't eat there.

We've been here a few times and our last visit did not disappoint. First off, it's a beautiful pub that is kept up so well. The staff are so friendly, work so hard and they make you feel very welcome. We like how they offer smaller portions of meals, it makes it more affordable and also you don't feel too full ( and you have room for one of their yummy puddings!). All in all its great value for money and it's nice to support independent businesses that work so hard during these tough times.

A beautiful pub nestled on the edge of Lyndhurst. The pub itself and the beer garden are a well deserved five stars but the food is barely a one. My vegetable cottage pie tasted like a dish of balsamic vinegar with a bit of potato and cheese on top. Accompanied with frozen vegetables. The lasagne was salty and the burger tasted as though it had been reheated. Although the curry was okay. I would go again for a drink but not to eat.

My partner and me had dinner at the pub today. We were very satisfied. The food was fantastic. The chicken breast was crumbly and tasty. The salad garnish is fresh and crunchy. The fries are fresh and hot. We didn't wait long for the food, it was ready quickly. The waitresses are very kind and friendly. If we will go there, we will return, this is 100%. I highly recommend it to all travelers.🤩

Found this place by chance on our way home and so glad we did!!! Really lovely beer garden and outside seating and really lovely food. Very helpful staff member who was on and worked really hard to make you feel welcome!! Really enjoyed it and will call again when next on holiday!!👍🏻❤️👍🏻❤️👍🏻

Lovely old pub barmaids are lovely and Nothing too much trouble to ask for. Our meals were great except for the steak Which was tough. Will come back again though.

Was in today and my family and we were looked after from entering the lovely looking pub to leaving with big smiles. I didn’t get any names but the more senior of the two female team looked after all of our needs. Food was perfect to fill our empty stomachs. Great food and service was excellent. Thank you.

Came here because of the reviews but we didn’t get what we expected. Food was not that nice. Waiter made a mistake with the salad we ordered and he brought the ingredients they missed in a dish for us to put them in afterwards. We would have expected them to take the dish to the kitchen and fix the mistake themselves. The Sunday roast was not that nice either. However, we loved the cheesecake that we shared and staff were kind despite the mistakes. There must be better options in the area.

Me and hubby went last weekend. He wanted to go back to old haunts 🤣. I wanted a ploughmans 🙂. We had a wonderful time. Garden was lovely. Marquis up. Had lovely ploughmans. Staff really friendly and nothing too much trouble. Shame we don't live closer.

Lovely little traditional bar with a great atmosphere. We had great service too. Marked down a bit for the food as my vegan roast was about 60% peas. My family found their roast meat slightly tough and would have given it 4*. I'd still recommend based on the service and atmosphere alone.

What a find. This must be the only pub in the New Forest that has a selection of gluten free options and so varied. From GF main courses to pizzas to wonderful puddings. Also the staff were so friendly beyond belief. We were all treated...

Lovely pub and welcoming staff. The rest of this review I hope, will be taken as constructive criticism. The meals do resemble something of a basic nature with a quality to match. Calamari is too heavily coated which take the taste away from the squid itself. Pizzas are large but look and tasted like a cheap shop bought base with added toppings. Kids didn't complain. Fish was a bit greasy, chips were good👍. Price doesn't reflect the overall quality.
