Fox & Hounds in New Forest

Almost impossible to get served at the bar on a Friday. 15 minute wait at the bar.

The place was lovely but the food let it down massively. I had to send my food back as there was a fly in it. Also, the risotto wasn't cooked. I wouldn't visit here again for food

We popped into this Pub for lunch this afternoon as a half way meeting place with family from the Forest. We all agree that the food was delicious and very good value for money. The service we received was exceptional and such a lovely warm traditional pub. We are so pleased to have found this place and will be back in the summer. For info, we had their large sandwiches, a child fish & chips, burgers. All delicious and very filling.

Stopped by on a cold windy day and was immediately greeted with a welcoming log fire. Just called in for a couple of drinks and very much enjoyed the gin of the week 😉

We had the cosiest early dinner here last night with our small kids. The staff were so friendly… so helpful. The food was great and boiling hot! I can’t tell you how annoying it is when you order food and it’s lukewarm on arrival. This was perfect. The kids had carrot & hummus and then burgers and chips. We had a couple of starters and then the steak pies! So good. Loads of beer on tap. Loads of wines gins etc Highly recommend! We’ve been before and we’ll be back when we’re in the area

Had the best roast at the fox and hounds! Accidentally stumbled upon here as decided last minute we fancied a roast and my god so glad we did. We’ve been trying all best roast spots and recommendations and this one has just taken the top spot. Everything was incredible and to such a high standard. I would literally come back every weekend. Plus they had the football on so my boyfriend was happy haha. Staff were friendly and helpful too on the phone and in person. 10/10

Lovely staff but immensely obnoxious guests with uncontrollable noise levels

6 of us ate at the fox on Sunday. 4 opted for Roasts which we all agreed were absolutely delicious especially the vegetables (no frozen rubbish here!) cooked with imagination and flair. Meat was good and the gravy yummy. I would highly recommend the Fox & Hounds without hesitation.

Great service and fantastic food. A welcoming log fire and cosy. Perfect for couples and family groups. The HSB was a refreshing and delightful pint of beer.

We have been to The Fox and Hounds several times before, but on this occasion it was disappointing. Usually there are open fires and candles burning on the tables, but on this occasion there were neither. Also it was decidedly chilly. We had Pie of the Day, and Fish Pie, which were nice. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Staying in Lyndhurst for a few days we decided to eat at this cosy pub. So pleased we did, great food & friendly staff.

Average selection on draught and bar service nice seating and atmosphere. Didn't eat, so can't comment on food.

Very slow service as it was at tge table. Had Chicken with Lyonnaise Potatoes which was very nice. Chicken very succulent however the Sauce was cold so unable to enjoy it and a handful of green verns which were lukewarm. Didn't want to say anything incase they did something to the food. It's a shame.

Long eait to be served, then very expensive prosecco. Small bottle £11.30, with a pint £17.85. We were going to eat however we've been put off.

I was quite disappointed when me and my family attended for a birthday lunch. There was 10 of us and we originally booked, yet had to get menus off of other tables and had to ask if there was any specials. One of us asked the waitress if they did anything special for birthdays, she stated “i shall ask” but heard nothing back. When ordered food at the bar there was no mention of limited items on the menu, I ordered the burger and when received i had no coleslaw on the plate. There was no mention about this i then had to ask the waitress and she stated “we are out of coleslaw”. Which should have been mentioned prior to ordering, As previously worked in a pub/ restaurant for 3 years our team always had the decency to mention “we are currently out of said item, is there anything i can switch it for”. But the waitress just apologised and moved on. The birthday girl ordered a courgette dish and there was a sauce that said it came on the side however it came in the hummus, yet again having to ask the waitress about this and when she came back with sauces failed to mention and we had to ask again. We was not impressed. We also had no check back on food and the waitress never even mentioned desserts. I had been here over a year ago and loved the food just unfortunate that today’s experience was disappointing. I do not normally leave reviews but, i believe this just needed one when my family has a bad experience it takes a toll on me.

Sorry the food was late and cold the sweet we could not tell what is was coffee was cold one of our party never did get a nice cup of tea my advice go for your Xmas lunch somewhere

We visited this place yesterday for a few drinks, we was planning to have a meal also but after the starter we decided against it. I will say this is a lovely pub, great drinks and cocktails bit expensive but I am not from lyndhurst. Unfortunately tho the food well.....we ordered chicken wings and prawn starter. The chicken wings was OK but nothing special. The prawns OMG I had a lot of prawns in my time and can easily say they were worst prawns I have ever had in my life. Sadly won't go back next time we visit

Visited 08/11/24 A good selection of beers. Great selection of food with various menus. We had Prawn Cocktail, followed by Sea Bream. Food arrived “hot and presentation was excellent”. Compliments to the Chef. Staff very pleasant and efficient. Would thoroughly recommend and will return.

Sure it would of been lovely later on in the evening but way too many noisy uncontrolled children

Nice atmosphere polite people , Sunday lunch , beef very nice generous portions of food at reasonable prices , not over priced like a lot of other places had cauliflower cheese as extra which me and my wife shared , I will go more often It’s very good

We waited 40 minutes for our "bites while we waited" and then it was 1h 20m before our food arrived. Not a single apology, just indifference.

We live in Lyndhurst Village and this used to be our go-to, local Pub. Unfortunately, the staff just do not seem to care. Last night we ordered two bhaji burgers, a pint and a rum and Coke - £48 lighter even after our locals discount. The meal was plonked down miserably… we were offered condiments, I asked if they had vegan mayo and the reply was ‘probably not’ … so I asked for ketchup and a tiny pot was bought it over to share. The burger was so small and incredibly dry…. My husband got up to try and get more ketchup for us as there was no staff around to ask. We were both incredibly hungry and the small pot of chips were lovely, but it left us saying that we will absolutely never be back again. This is the third time we’ve had a really poor meal here. You always want to support your local pub and it really did used to be fantastic but no longer. It used to be full of locals and interestingly, we didn’t see any last night. everybody locally in the village probably realises there are other better options. Save your money and go somewhere else, we won’t ever be back again. The New Forest Inn, Emery Down is much nicer or The Stag. Incidentally, we went to get two Diet Coke’s (as the meal was so dry) and for two small mush cokes it was £6.90!!

We regularly visit the new forest staying in various hotels and enjoy eating in one of the many restaurants, we chose the fox and hounds and arranged to meet friends there, it wasn’t that busy maybe four other covers , we ordered our food and the starters came out in about fifteen minutes after that it fell apart no one appeared we had to get our drinks ourselves the barman said they were short staffed , we sat down and waited an hour for the mains the waitress kept saying it’s coming soon eventually it arrived, the food was mediocre to say the least, we were very disappointed as this place had been highly recommended last year . On a last note the toilets both male and female were gross stinking of urine and not been cleaned.

Very poor service this evening. No menus offered on arrival. No info about the non available items until it was time to order as we had to find our own menus. Wrong drinks arrived. Food was ok but not amazing. Had to go up the bar to order more drinks as staff were scarce on the ground. Didn’t stop for dessert as didn’t want to spend any more of our hard money on second rate service. Very disappointed. Manager was trying her best but most of the staff were young kids who didn’t have a clue about customer service.

Well what can I say, we had the unfortunate experience of visiting on a quiz night , tables booked but empty nearly an hour after booking time but no one had used them but still reserved, first person who served me asked if I was a local, it sounded like there is a two tier pricing system going on. When I asked a member of staff if she could wipe our table as it badly needed it, it was done with somewhat reluctance, this reluctance continued when I asked for service next, as she was obviously more interested in talking to a local! The final straw came when I enquired about if a dark non spiced rum was available which was accompanied by a shrug of the shoulders and a wave of the hand towards an array of bottles on a shelf none of which I could read at that distance. Don’t bother going because it’s fairly obvious if you are not local you are not really welcome.

Came this afternoon for food was disappointed food was cold had to asked for it to reheat was definitely not worth 89 pounds for 4 roasts and some drinks will not be returning

One of the staff members (Megan) were so reassuring and helpful during a situation that caused distress to our daughter with additional needs, gave us food and drinks on the house! Provided us with a quiet space and were helpful if we needed anything!! Definitely recommend and will come back

Stopped in here to get a spot of lunch whilst having a mooch about in Lyndhurst. Really nice pub and the food was great. We just had a couple of starters and some triple cooked chips which were some of the best chips ever! Cooked to perfection. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely pub in the middle of Lyndhurst and a great place to stop for a refreshing drink after spending the day exploring the New Forsest. Nice large outside seating area and nice and cosy inside if it gets a bit chilly. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend a visit if your in the area.

My family was in NF, Lyndhurst, for a weeks holiday. Went here for beers, wine, soft drinks after eating out in the village. Good selection of beers and the staff let me have a try of a beer if I wasnt certain about ordering a pint. Really good selection. Service was decent and the prices were about what I expected. Saw mixed reviews about the food, being a bit hit or miss, so only went for post-meal drinks. Environment was warm, freindly atmosphere, no pretence, lots of seating options like high benches and tables. Nice comfy chairs. Its not all open-planned, so your conversation doesnt get drowned with ambient noise pollution. We really liked it, went there most evenings.

The pub itself is quite cosy with a nice atmosphere, the food was really good (the camembert in particular was very tasty). The service was okay, everyone was really nice but there were a couple of mistakes made. Would recommend overall 😊

We were not warned when ordering that the food was going to take 45mins to an hour to arrive However when it did arrive it was very good. We expressed our disappointment with the delay..they were clearly under staffed Our complaint was listened to and 4 desserts were given free of charge We would return to eat here again

Been here a few times now and it gets better and better. Had Sunday lunch today which they claim is the best in the Forest, I think it’s the best I’ve had in any pub, delicious and the portions are huge. On top of that the girls who run the pub are fantastic, will definitely be back next time we are in the Forrest.

Never ate there great drinks and atmosphere

Went here for dinner on our last night of our holiday. Was good service food was good. Pub is nice and lively had a great night. Nothing was too much trouble staff were very friendly.

This pub has a chalk board claiming a connection with Lewis Carroll The writer of Alice in Wonderland. The writer of the chalkboard describes Alice in wonderland as infamous i.e. Carrolls infamous book Alice in Wonderland. The word infamous tends to have bad connotations (definition: well known for some bad quality or deed). In this context how or why is Alice in Wonderland infamous? Unless you are stretching it to mean legendary or fabled. I brought this to the attention of the bar staff who seemed no to know what I was getting at. They did say however then would mention it to the management (who were apparently on their break). I hope it has been rewritten or made clearer.

The steak and ale pie was delicious, can't recommend it enough! Staff was welcoming and made you feel at home.

A quaint inn with an Olde Worlde feel. Good selection of ales and really good home cooked food, but more that that the, very friendly service especially from Aoibhinn and Megan. Made me feel right at home during a very wet and gloomy New Forest stay. Beats the local competitor's by a mile and more. Can't wait to return.

Had an evening meal here with friends and stayed for the quiz. Good choice of food and wines. Quiz ok but unable to hear the main man.

Just popped in for a pint and some wings. Always look forward to doing this. It's just lovely. Hophead is always good and wings make for a lovely light lunch. A special shout to the 2 bar people, neither of which would accept a tip. (!) Somehow, I shall have to rectify that. Thank you all.

Lovely welcome from staff. We are on holiday and today is our last day. The lovely youngIrish lady ( Megan )didn't even wait for us to go to the bar, she brought our chosen drinks over without needing to be asked. Best welcome in Lyndhurst pubs. The other 2 pubs are very lacking in customer service. Thank you Fox and Hounds.

Really great sandwich for lunch!

A very nice dog-friendly pub that serves excellent food with really good service. Everything we were served, both starters (koftas & chicken wings) and mains (sirloin steak, schnitzel & burger) was well cooked and very tasty. The portions were generous and the young lady who served us was lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. Very happy to highly recommend 😊👍🏼

Fantastic food really nice! the staff were super friendly as was the service really enjoyed the atmosphere which made us feel relaxed especially as we had our dog with us .

Dropped in to the F & H's for a pint on a bike ride around the area. Nice place to stop on a sunny day as they have outside sitting at the front and in a terrace at the back.

Welcoming pub with friendly staff. My dog was also welcome. Lovely home cooked food; I had the veggie linguine which was cooked to order and really lovely. Reasonable price and good atmosphere.

Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner, that I love London Pride. So goes the music hall song, never truer for me though. This pub has all the fullers attributes I come to expect from their pubs. Sensational beer, excellent food, terrific service in a beautiful environment. Wonderful.

Ad-hoc Sunday lunch on a busy Sunday. Found a table and were advised there was a wait for food but it's a nice place to relax even if there is a wait. We both had Roasts and both were fantastic and one of the best I've had. All the staff very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back

Went for a roast dinner on bank holiday weekend. The roast was absolutely devious, AJ on the wait team was so lovely and the pub itself is gorgeous. Couldn't recommend more.

Very disappointed, dropped in for a quick lunch and decided on a sandwich. Everything on the menu was very expensive. The "sandwich" arrived, one piece of bread with steak shavings on the top! The staff were friendly enough but wouldn't return

Lovely garden to sit in, but staff were rude and we waited half an hour for a panini with not many people in the pub. The panini was also overpriced (about £12) for it to be soggy, cold and tasteless.

I must say that it's a very nice place but the haddock and chips I had was the Best batter I've eaten. Try one you will very surprised. I've never had anything like this and I've eaten tons of fish.

We stayed in Lyndhurst inbetween Xmas and new year because we were visiting family. We decided to eat at F&H as it was just down the road from our accommodation and looked cosy. The pub in general has a great feel. As soon as you walk in it feels like a lovely country pub. Had we stopped just to drink, I suspect the review would have been more positive. The food, unfortunately, is below parr based on price vs product. The service was also slow, only two service staff working in the restaurant. Either the food pricing needs to come down, or the quality needs to be improved. Just because you’re located in a nice touristy village doesn’t mean you can offer a second class product for first class money.

The Fox & Hounds is, in my opinion, simply the best sunday roast! Love this pub in general. The ambience, the service and the food are great.

I recently stopped by The Fox and Hounds in Lyndhurst during a Christmas event on the high street and near the Community Centre. The pub was quite busy, but we still managed to get a table. The mulled wine was good, and the food was alright. Prices are on the slightly higher side, which is somewhat expected in a popular tourist area. The place was nicely decorated for the festive season, adding to the charm. The staff were very friendly, contributing to a warm and welcoming atmosphere. A pleasant experience overall at The Fox and Hounds, particularly during the lively Christmas period.

Great staff, great atmosphere, great food.

Comfortable and warm on a cold rainy day. Had a bowl of chips and a hot chocolate. All very tasty if a little pricy.

Really helpful and accommodating staff. Excellent service. Lovely food. The atmosphere rating was a 3 when we went as there was a very loud group of children and parents there. I would think the atmosphere would be lovely otherwise.

Great meal, good service only spoiled by a large family group thinking they owned the place, taking over a group of tables. The staff were saints to cope with them.

An extremely warm and welcoming pub, certainly one to visit if you are staying in Lyndhurst for more than a few days. The food is absolutely fantastic and they have an excellent selection of drinks on tap. A perfect place to stop in after a nice walk in the countryside..

slow service on a Sunday evening, under seasoned and overcooked Sunday roast. i knew it being part of a chain was a red flag but i thought i would give it a chance. i wish i could recommend because of the nice interior but i cannot recommend this place.

We like this pub and their Sunday roasts are very good and quite big portions but have become a bit too expensive, we are not going that much anymore. The chef definitely can cook, the roast beef is always nice and pink and the sauces are good. The desserts are nice but not special, my partner had a Bakewell slice that was small and cost £9.00 - definitely not worth it. My sticky toffee pud for £7.50 was nicer.

The pub is very nice, lovely inside, the staff were very polite and the food came out in good time but that's where the good times ended. I ordered the Ploughman's, which was described as a sharing meal, for 2. What you get is 1 scotch egg, cut in half, some soggy salt beef, bread that was wet, like it had been defrosted, a pile of wilted rocket and cheese, albeit a good portion of cheese. That was it, for £24 it felt like a big over charge and sub-par food. My mrs ordered a bacon, brie and cranberry sandwich, which was ok but nothing to write home about. All in all, the two meals, 2 drinks and 1 soft drink came to nearly £60 and I honestly can't understand how it can be justified, we've eaten better food, multiple courses for less money and enjoyed it more. Maybe we had a bad day there, I don't know, but with other options on the same street I can't imagine ever going back.

Very busy with fantastic food and staff and atmosphere

Took my daughter here for Sunday lunch. It really was lovely. Great food, pleasant staff and a lively atmosphere. We had our dog with us which was no problem even when he knocked the table sending the drinks everywhere. Although it was totally our fault they replaced our drinks free of charge with out a second thought. Will definitely be back and would recommend this place to anyone after a top notch Sunday roast
