The bar staff explained they were a chef short so to expect a 50 minute wait if we wanted to order food. We drank up and left. Another time maybe.

Absolutely appalling experience this evening. Completely unprepared for our pre-booked table of 8 (plus 1 year old). Multiple different excuses as to why our food took almost an hour and a half to come out and when it did it wasn’t worth the wait or the money. No accountability of the absolute disaster, nor any offer of a refund for a ruined birthday celebration. I do NOT recommend.

Went for Sunday lunch. It was telling that the pub was advertising for cooks, the roast was OK but the gravy tasted like they had gone a but heavy on the bisto. Service was OK, but you had to order from the bar.

Just Perfect. Lovely location and local walks followed by the best food and a lovely dog and family friendly environment. The dog had dinner from the dog menu so everyone happy. 10/10

Went to the pub today as we have passed it a few times and it looked very nice. When entering the pub it was nice and clean and greeted by a friendly member of staff at the bar. We ordered three meals and the food was great. Staff were very helpful when ordering. Would definely recommend, will 100% be back in the summer too as they have a large outside area that I think would be great in nice weather.

Unfortunately, really disappointing. Came in for a meal with my partner on Bank holiday Monday lunchtime. Ordered 2 drinks and 2 meals. When the meals came out I thought they had given us child portions. For the price of the meal it was an extremely small portion, even missing quite a few things off of my partners meal. We should have said something at the time but it was difficult finding a member of staff. I appreciate they were busy being a bank holiday but they should have had more staff on (and friendlier staff). We drove quite a way to go there for a meal as we had passed it a few times in the past and it looks a lovely place, unfortunately we won’t be going back.

What a welcome! We visited with our two dogs yesterday and all received the warmest welcome. Staff went above and beyond. Food was lovely, with a good set meal deal and our 'girls' were included. As we're moving to the area, we'll be back on a regular basis 😊 Thank you for spoiling us!

Found this beautiful pub on the outskirts of Lyndhurst heading towards emery down and what a find. The first night we popped in to have a drink and have a look at the menu. They had folk band in playing which gave a lovely atmosphere. Lee the chap behind the bar offered advice of non alcoholic drinks and was very welcoming and friendly. Because of this we went back for dinner Tuesday and wow. Nothing was too much trouble, Lee helped with our food choices and Milly the chef went out of her way to accommodate us. We settled for the gammon and a side of vegetables and the steak and venison pie with a side of dauphenoise potatoes. First thing the chef knows how to cook but more than that, how to season food. The pie was to die for, melting steak and venison in a rich gravy, outstanding. The gammon was cooked perfectly but the wedge of grilled fresh pineapple was a hit. Both Lee and Milly were very helpful and we would highly recommend a visit.

I treated my family to a roast Sunday lunch 24th March. and was really delighted that we all said it was the best roast lunch for miles. The manageress Shirley and the bar staff were so friendly. It will be top of our list in future.

We stopped at The Swan for some lunch during our bike ride and we are so glad we did! Lovely cosy atmosphere, friendly staff and the food was amazing!! I had the house salad and chunky chips - the salad was so fresh and tasty. My husband had the steak sandwich and he was very impressed (it takes a GOOD steak to impress him!!) We have found a little gem and will definitely be back with the children and dogs!

We returned to the Swan for a roast, & found it had been taken over . The roast was absolutely wonderful. We managed pudding too! The staff & owner were friendly & helpful. Music at the right level so you could hold a conversation. No interuptions from the staff whilst you ate (bliss). Nothing worse when your eating than the staff asking "Is your meal ok ?" We will be going back as we loved our experience there. Thank you Shirley & team.

Had a Sunday roast, could have been a bit warmer but can’t fault quality or quantity of the food. Definitely be going again.

Lee and Josh made us feel very welcome. The food, is always tasty, some other reviews have mentioned an issue with a broken fryer but they advised us of the issue when we arrived and there was nothing wrong in that. The staff were all helpful and accommodating, and the food arrives in good time without you feeling like you have to eat and run, they give you time and space to enjoy your meal without neglecting you. I love the fact that dogs are welcome and brought in as part of the family even with their own 3 course dinner available. Can't fault it. It's good hearty pub grub for a fair price.

I know that standing in a queue is supposed to be a very British thing - so this must be a very British pub! Only one member of staff serving at the bar (and taking food orders) on a Saturday lunchtime! Good food and friendly staff but not enough of them.

Lee and Josh made us feel very welcome. Lovely meal and food, very pleasant atmosphere. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the food is always tasty. They food is always brought out in good time without feeling like your being rushed, you have time to enjoy your meal and relax rather than being pushed out the door. I love the fact they welcome dogs in as part of the family and have beds to borrow for them as well as a 3 course dinner.

We had a delicious meal here late lunchtime on the 14th Feb. Brushetta for a starter, a lamb shank and rib-eye for our main courses and apple crumble for dessert. Staff were very friendly and the service was excellent.

Cant understand how and why this place has been allowed to go so very downhill in so short a time. Have regularly eaten here and not been dissapointed with any aspect until now. We booked a meal but when we got there, there was an issue with a fryer being out of service which affected one of our allergies (for which there were no suitable alternatives offered) but we hadn't been advised of this when we phoned to confirm the booking although we were told they were aware of our allergy issues.. , but after the sheer rudeness from the way we were dealt with by the staff over the issue and the obvious change for the worse in atmosphere needless to say I / we shalnt be gracing their establishment with our presence again. Its a great shame to say but in my opinion there are FAR BETTER places to be.

Really disappointed:-( I regularly eat here with my family and actually ate here on Christmas Day and had a lovely meal with great customer service. I have a life threatening food allergy and the reason I chose to eat at The Swan was the level of consideration around this. As soon as I walked in I could tell the whole atmosphere was different. We sat at our table for ages before realising it had changed and you had to order at the bar. The bar staff were the same people as before, who I always tip generously... They were unwelcoming, unfriendly and verging on rude from the get go. When I went to the bar I was told I wouldn't be able to have anything from the fryer and would have to swap chips, onions rings etc for salad or vegetables . I had phoned earlier that day and was told my allergies were noted but not told I wouldn't be able to eat most of the set meal I had wanted. I explained this but no apology came, just a lot of sneering and smirking. I explained I felt unsafe and my evening was ruined, I was upset as we are locals and regularly eat there. We ended up leaving and getting a takeaway. Martin worked really hard to make the place good with a great atmosphere, it's a shame he's gone as even on Xmas Day, when he'd been up all night with his children, he still managed to make everyone feel welcome and happy. We won't be returning.

Popped in for a bit of food on our way back from a day down Charmouth.. little detour through the forest when we stumbled Upton this nice pub! Sausage and mash was consumed by the wife and I and wow o have to say that is was probably the best bangers and mash I have ever had. I've now been several times and each time the food has been lovely and the staff friendly and attentive. There is a fair bit of seating and the menu looks like it would cater for most people. The car park is on the smaller side, but I believe there is another nearby. We'll certainly be visiting again.

Told food would be 30 mins, took an hour. Wouldn't have minded if they told us it would be an hour initially because I know pubs are struggling at the movement. Went there for a Sunday roast for a birthday treat. Unfortunately the roast was unavailable, so had to opt for a basic pie. The service seemed very slow, considering there were few customers. The vegetables were not freshly cooked and were tired and unappetising. My dessert was supposed to be Eton mess sundae but turned out to have no meringue and cream in it, just ice-cream.

arrived to the pub for a quick food and drink, asked for a place, pub was half empty, we was with a kid. it was raining outside. manager said that is not free space to sit, and we can sit outside only. again! it was heavy rain outside and we was with a kid 1 year old! not recorded at all!

What a great place food great , but book a roast on a Sunday because it's very popular. Best place if you have a hairy four-legged friend they even have their own menu. Will definitely be going back.

Stopped here for lunch as part of a day out treat for my 89 year old mum. The staff were fantastic especially the young man who she beckoned over to say that she didn’t like spiders (the fantastic Halloween decorations). In her mind a little joke but we think he was a little worried that something was wrong. All three meals were very well presented and did not disappoint. Thank you, we will definitely be back!
