Staff quite grumpy, poor quality food, bread very dry on sandwiches, and scone went back as very dry and stodgy, won't be going back

Honest review, Quality of the food ok, I would say it’s expensive for what it is and there was significant variance with portion size especially with chips. Atmosphere fine if you do not mind dogs in a cafe. Food was quick but there was no consistent way to order. I joined the existing queue to place my order yet despite there being 3 people waiting and only one staff member on the till other staff would walk from the kitchen area and directly take orders from the tables ignoring the existing queue. Visited around 12 o’clock on a Saturday, not particularly busy with half the tables still available. Wouldn’t go back just seems overpriced due to location and nothing more. Also very limited drink choice on the day of visit, no coke, all drinks were the low sugar options.

Sadly I wouldn’t return here. It’s in a lovely setting but the outside tables were piled high with dirty plates, half our table waited 30 minutes for their food when the first half arrived and we chased 3 times for drinks. We weren’t the only table to have this problem, not enough staff but a real shame as it’s in a lovely setting.

Staff super friendly even though very busy bank holiday Sunday. Waitress service at table, cake yummy. Our only let down was no mac n cheese but nipper found something else on the menu. Nice selection of food, and local cider

Chaotic, lots of tables that had not been cleared, the lady who took my order had no customer service skills, dirty shirts worn by 3 of the team, mucky carpets. Food arrived and was eaten before the drinks arrived. The sandwich however was fine with crisps and a side salad.

Just dropped in for tea and toast. Long wait, apparently lost ticket. Told was no butter so returned the order, then appeared with butter they had found. Surely a staple of any cafe. Other options available in the village would probably be a better option.

The food was decent, however, from my point of view the service was not up to standard. Many tables and counters were left dirty - despite not being busy - and we had to ask multiple times for water and for a table to be cleared. Upon paying, staff very obviously asked if we left a tip. I would not recommend this cafe.

The breakfast was absolutely delicious! We were served by mia she was brilliant! The service was quick and the drinks were fab! We will be returning again soon

Our first time visiting here and the area around it. Had seen some of the reviews previously and came in a little skeptical. However, we could not see what some of the previous reviews have been based on. The service was lovely and quite efficient as well, the food was incredible the hot sausage sandwich in particular was a highlight and it has a lively atmosphere especially on a Sunday afternoon. Would highly recommend coming here!

Very rude staff, food took 40 minutes for one toastie when it wasn’t even busy. Felt like they didn’t even want to serve us and made us feel very unwelcome. Will not be coming back any time soon.

Food was OK, they hadn't mentioned that my partners side salad would come dressed with vinaigrette so he ended up having to send it back due to an intolerance. His jacket potato was somewhat cold and the chilli wasn't the most flavourful. I had the cheese scone cream tea, the scone was perfect but the rest was a bit bizarre, it was served with grated cheese on the side which didn't stay on the scone when it was put on top, the chutney was OK. Onto the issues we had, we were met by a server who was completely uninterested, the cafe wasn't clean and overall it wasn't a pleasant place to be.

I ordered the ‘large’ cooked breakfast….If you’re hungry enough to order one l suggest you eat before you arrive.

Good quality food but prices aren't cheap. Gets very busy at times. Outdoor and indoor seating. It's not as good as it used to be and service has definitely deteriorated.

Food was good and a decent kids menu. It was quite expensive for what it was. For example £8.95 for sausage sandwich with cheap sliced loaf, in a bag salad and crisps. Staff were confused by request to push 2 tables together, then we went outside and they were surly until I added tip after order (had to pay before food arrived) then they cheered up.

We came yesterday after walk in the forest and saw an offer for ‘coffee and cake’ but on the board said 3-4:30. We came a bit after 4:30 and ask if is possible and they were happy to make an exception. The coffee was nice and the cake delicious. We ask for apple cake with clotted cream and lovely waitress Amy said that’s not including in the deal but she will sort it. We had to pay only 50p for extra clotted cream- bargain. Turns out all cakes are home made. The staff was very friendly and even they gave to kids drawing even though they were about to close they let us stay longer . So nice of them. We are on holiday here and for sure we will be back again.

One slice of toast and cold sloppy scrambled egg for £8.00 rip off, service very slow, we git there & were seated before 11am and when we went to place our order when the waitress eventually came over and served us only to be told we were to late for breakfast, when we kindly reminded her we wre here before 11am and was waiting on her. Not customer friendly at all or any apologies for the wait. Don't waste your money

Not the best experience Having been here before and enjoyed a lovely cream tea. Plus the staff here are friendly enough and really helpful. Unfortunately stale scones late in the day. To be fair the cream tea was refunded but the two toasted sandwiches were like two warmed up cheese sandwiches. We were told that the chef was leaving in 11 minutes so maybe not the best plan. Not great value for money. Such a shame

Nice place to stop while visiting Brockenhurst. Bicycles stand at the back of the outside area. Good choice of cakes and small selection of ice cream. All nicely served with the smile.

Can I ask a question is this buttery the same Company that use to have a tearoom in Vincent's Walk Southampton quite a few Years ago , we in Southampton miss not having the Buttery tea rooms here we miss out not have this Tearooms here

Service was slow but staffing was scant. Very lovely food though and worth the wait. Outside area but within a car park. Brockenhurst is a lovely place to visit though.

Cycled down today to the buttery for lunch. They have a nice food and drinks menu and the food was good with delicious scones. Unfortunately the staff seemed quite unhappy and weren't the most helpful, which had a negative impact on our experience.

I didn't actually eat, just popped in for a pot of tea. It is a lovely old-fashioned tea room with a modern feel. Definitely worth a visit.

Remembered from years ago but has changed and staff are quite rude! Cakes not up to the memory but I guess everything changes. Shame, won't be recommending again

Such a pleasant place to unwind from the stresses and strains of modern day life. Not my life but that of my poor, still working, wife. Anyway the cream tea was superb!

A bit of a disappointing visit, food was ok, but service was very wooden and a bit clumsy. It appears the chef is a bit of a dictator who can't adapt an item on the menu the serving member was to afraid to ask. My son wanted a bacon sandwich and was flat out refused on chefs say so yet had multiple bacon items on menu including hunters chicken....with bacon. And strangely the table next to us ordered 2 soups and 2 mains. The mains came out first and when questioned the server said you never stated you wanted soup first which is extremely poor attitude. Chef admitted his mistake yet basic error from a clear dictator in kitchen

I wanted to take a breakfast here and I had much expectation about it. It was good (maybe just good for me), but I wanted the wow factor! I am a big portions guy and... I had a hole in my stomach in the end. I mean, the flavour (again) was good but the dish was a little bit simple. That pastries and cake... That's beyond! I loved them, specially the scones! Don't miss them. The people are kind and everything is served correctly.

Nothing special about the café. Quite spacious compared to the others in the village.

Good - The location, ambience and varied menu. Bad - A server called Anna. Found her to be prejudiced and rude. Even got the order incorrect and did not apologise.

The cheese scone tea is so good we have to detour when driving past the New Forest!

I love this cafe, but when I asked for poached egg instead of scrambled, the waitress said the chef doesn't do poached eggs, only fried.....or scrambled of course. Message to chef... using the frying pan for fried eggs, put in water instead of oil, bring to boil, crack eggs gently in frying pan and simmer for 10 minutes.....hey presto, poached eggs. Please don't accuse me of teaching granny to suck eggs!

Not the best. The scones were quite dry and the portion of clotted cream was very stingy and not enough for the size of the scones, so we went up to ask for more cream. In doing so the staff were busy chatting behind the till and not very attentive to acknowledge we’d gone up to ask a question, and they also didn’t inform us they were going to charge an extra £2 for another tiny portion of clotted cream! Should have been free! Disappointing!

Good place and ordered some cream tea and food . Just love this place and reasonable in prices . Good for quick meal and bit cold inside due to old structure so make sure you wear warm clothing in winter . Dog friendly place as well in the garden in summer . Amazing sandwiches and baguettes.

Not vegan friendly. Charged significantly extra for oak milk for drinks! No vegan food options at all. If vegan don't bother.

Proper old fashioned tea house. Warm welcome as soon as I went in. Staff were friendly and very attentive. Excellent quality breakfast. Delicious butchers sausage. Pot of tea came with hot water and an offer of more if I wanted... that's rare these days. Clean as a whistle including the loos. Great range of cakes, scones looked gorgeous.

Great food spoilt by young staff who obviously needed training. Hopefully the correct training programme is in operation to give the young staff a chance in the future.

A very excellent country tea house.

We had a pot of tea and slices of Carrot Cake and Dorset Apple Cake - both delicious. Service just slightly odd. Took a while for them to come and take our order which was strange as there were four staff and only one other table occupied. Other than that I would recommend for tea and cakes.

Lovely staff, very friendly. Came in with my mum for a breakfast before a walk in the forest. Quick service and lovely food. Stayed for an extra cup of coffee and a chat and weren't rushed out like some places. 2nd visit and will come again.

Starting to look outdated now and a bit pricey. The cream teas were ok, plenty of tea! For the price I would head just outside Brock.

A quaint little tea room in the beautiful village of Brockenhurst. Very friendly and helpful staff. We had two scones. The cheese scone was very good, particularly the tomato chutney. The sweet scone was good but very crumbly. It pretty much fell apart when cut in half. The pot of tea is very generous and perfect for afternoon tea.

Super slow service so don't pop in and expect reasonable speed in receiving your order. In fact it took fifteen minutes to take our order! Another thirty minutes passed by and bar the two coffee's that were good, the food served was mediocre at best. Staff nice though..

Full English was OK ....preference would be for tomato to be cooked more to bring out sweetness....also mushroom undercooked ...Flat White coffee too much foam

Went with my elderly Mum & we were greeted by Sharon in such a welcoming way... lovely calm bright atmosphere. We were a little early for lunch , so had a great cappuccino while we waited. Omelette was fluffy & delicious 😋 Nothing was too much trouble for all the staff ... yet Sharon stood out as exceptionally friendly ! 😁 Highly recommended!!

Was slightly disappointed, I had bought a voucher online, for £34 and was surprised the indoor price was £32, the afternoon tea consisted for myself was a fruit scone, with clotted cream and strawberry jam, a piece of Dorset Apple fruit cake, and a latte , my sister wanted an egg mayonnaise sandwich, but they had no eggs ,

Called in for breakfast this morning. 1 scrambled egg and toast. 1 full English breakfast. 2 teas. All was delicious😋. Friendly young lady serving. A nice clean environment. Even bought some cheese scones to take home. Would definitely recommend this cafe and will come again. Thank you 😊

Nice cafe for a quick bite before heading for a walk in the New Forest. Food was alright - we had the omelette and fish fingers. Could have had more fish in it, but it was good for a quick lunch. We also had a cream tea for one which was really tasty. Only downside was the service, despite being friendly, it was very slow and disorganised. There were only specific waitress who could take an order, and took ages for someone to come or notice us.

been here before & always very good , however this time not so good, very slow service, (it was lunchtime) BLT bacon was cold & a bit greasy, cheese toastie was ok but side order of chips were cold

Pricey, unwelcoming and alienanting experience! We went to the restaurant and asked for a table, we were told it would be a few mins wait even though we saw some empty tables and were told there is space in the back. We went to the outside space in the back and did not like it, so we decided to let the server know we were happy to wait. After coming back, we waited approximately 10 minutes before someone saw us and ushered us to a seat that was empty even before we came. 6 we wanted to order, we had to wait over 5 minutes for our server and again the same person who gave us the seat saw that we were waiting and a new server came to take the order. The food was average but the scones were delicious, hence the extra star in my rating. When it was time to pay, we were not told to pay at the cashier but only told when we asked. Once at the cashier we were given a dismissive face. We were the only people of colour in the restaurant at the time, and I do not want to make assumptions, but I felt very alienated because everyone around us had such wonderful service. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this establishment, especially if you are not from around the area.

Lovely quaint little Cafe serving wonderful food. We had sandwiches as well as a cream scone tea and a cheese scone tea. The scones were beautifully baked and fresh. Service was great. All in all a great experience and I would recommend it highly.

Asked for a bacon and sausage sandwich but was told by waitress that they can't do that. It's either a bacon or sausage but not together. So ordered scrambled egg and toast with sausage and beans and got scrambled egg and toast with bacon and beans. Food was nice that i got but would have been better if I got what I ordered. Atmosphere ruined by a army of cyclists which ment after eating we had a ten minute wait to pay, cyclists all appeared and they only have 1 card machine.

Food was ok and about the price you'd expect to pay as a tourist. Service to have order taken was a bit slow but once ordered didn't take that long. Seemed like quite a lot of staff but didn't seem super organised.

A nice tea room/cafe in the centre of Brockenhurst. We sat in the garden as we had our dog with us, but the sign on the door said he could go inside. Good food. They do a really nice cream tea.

We had visited the Buttery and had a good experience a few years ago, and as we were in the area we thought it would nice to go again. It was a really good choice, we had a really nice snack, Cheese scone for me (highly recommended) and a Mars bar slice for my wife, which she said was delicious. The service was good and there was a nice area outside to sit in. Well worth a stop for lunch.

Lovely food - The only gripe was that you cannot order Tuna and Cheese combined :) The waitress was amazing and gave the kids some free chips whilst they waited.

After a recommendation we went there from Fair Oak,near Eastleigh for a luxury cream tea.We were not disappointed,every bit of it was fresh and delicious and service was excellent in trying circumstances.Thoroughly recommended.

Stopped here yesterday for a full english breakfast. The service was fantastic, the gentleman was so kind and helpful. Our tea came out with an extra pot of water, to extend the tea further. The food was presented perfectly on the plate and tasted wonderful and was very reasonably priced. Highly recommend!

Stopped here for lunch whilst walking the Lyndhurst / Brockenhurst loop. We had the crab baguette from the specials board and the salmon and cream cheese sandwich. Both were delicious. Considering how touristy the area is the food was fresh and reasonably priced.
