Excellent, superb food, was very busy with a big crowd of cyclists, so very noisy and slow service, but quality of food means I'll be back and they took service charge off the bill in recognition of the exceptional circumstances so fair play, the sticky slow cooked Duck with hoisin was to die for, incredible flavour, the dish was out of this world

Lovely to see the place doing so well, Really enjoyed our lunch, the redecoration is a great success. On a gloomy day like today, it wasn't that ready to read the menu (small rechargeable table lamps are great for that and for the ambience). The food was very good, and the staff very friendly. Dog friendly too

A superb meal. Our starters were the scallops and pate, the main was beef wellington and duck, and we shared a creme brulee for pudding. Everything was superb, really excellent. This is a lovely historic pub in the New Forest with history of the building on the walls, including the landlords' names going back a couple of hundred years. Our waitress, Izzy, was efficient and polite. The best that we have experienced in the area.

Just the two of us for dinner, first time at Fleur de Lys having moved to Lymington a year ago. We have tried many of the great places to eat out around the area but this place tops them all. Very friendly on arrival and this represented the great service throughout. The food (beef wellington and lamb) was melt in your mouth exceptional and finished off with delicious desserts. Cannot recommend this beautiful, historic place enough. Thank you.

We telephoned and booked in advance. Made choices from the menu. I ordered Hunters Chicken with saute potatoes and paid an extra £5 for honey glazed root vegetables. When the Hunters chicken arrived, it had dry bacon wrapped around it, and the chicken was dry. There was no cheese as there is with Hunters chicken, and there were no saute potatoes, just boiled potatoes. There was a little bit of veg garnish on the side, which consisted mostly of raw leek! The honey glazed root vegetables did not exist. Instead, a small dish of something white, cubed and soggy with water, I presume celeriac that had no taste, one 1 cm cubed piece of carrot and a bit more raw leek on the top. Not honey glazed root vegetables at all. It was tasteless. I ate it because I was hungry but felt sick all evening. After paying, I had a polite quiet word with a member of staff who apologised and said she would get it sorted and that the usual chef was not there that evening!! I have heard nothing since. Not a single word! It is a lovely building, but a real letdown. I will not be back.

Visited last wee and really lovely food cooked with care, I had a wonderful cream cheese salad and the beef wellington and very dog friendly which was nice. The ambiance could do with work, the room as super cold, they switched the heating on for 30 mins when I mentioned it but then off again, so I sat in my coat, which really decreased my enjoyment of the visit.

Had a family Sunday lunch / birthday celebration here yesterday. The menu on the day was a little limited but several dishes I could have happily chosen, All five had the roast sirloin beef. At £25 it's far from cheap, but the large plate that resulted was worth it. Everything from the fab/large homemade Yorkshire pudding to cauliflower cheese, fab veg (even the carrots were off the chart) to the delicious rare beef, we left very full and content. Staff overheard it was my Father-In-Laws birthday and brought out a happy birthday (written in chocolate) plate of some fancy mini pastry/biscuits and a scoop of ice-cream. Well presented and very thoughtful.

We drove all the way from bournemouth, waited in their parking lot until 5:30pm because the opening time says so. On their menu board outside, it says dinner starts at 6pm. But when we entered the pub, the guy says that dinner will start at 7'oclock , 7:15-ish. Just unbelievable how their timing is misleading. Seemed like they dont want business.

I recently visited the historic 1096 pub for a Sunday roast and had a fantastic experience! From the initial phone call to book, the staff were warm and welcoming. Upon arrival, our friendly and efficient waitress greeted us and made us feel right at home. As we ordered our drinks and starters, we asked about the building's rich history. Our waitress regaled us with a fascinating timeline of events, from the monks who once resided there to the origins of the ghost stories. It was both entertaining and enlightening! The Sunday roast was absolutely delicious, with generous portions that left us feeling satisfied. I highly recommend it to anyone with a hearty appetite. To top it off, the decadent chocolate dessert was the perfect finale to our meal. Overall, I would definitely return to the 1096 pub for another exceptional dining experience. The combination of warm hospitality, intriguing history, and mouth-watering food makes it a must-visit destination.

Dating from 1096, this great pub, with a fantastic menu, was originally under the control of the local monks. Historically important, the Grade 1 listed building has been preserved for our pleasure. Out of the way, on a small country lane and village. Nice selection of beers, it is in contention to be the oldest licenced estabishment in England. Great chat with the landlord, and skilled chef, Steve who knows so much more. Plenty of seating inside and outside. Friendly staff.

We came here for dinner on the 28th, our last night in Lymington, having chosen this for a nice meal due to its history and great reviews. The ambience was cosy, food was good, however service that night warranted a disappointing 2-stars. Twice over the course of our meal, regular requests of mine were denied, only to be accommodated when my partner was the one that asked for it. By the time dessert rolled around, I told him to be the one to interact with our server instead. Safe to say I doubt I’ll be back.

The food was presented well, but taste was terrible.. not worth the money.. some signature dishes have lost their way or no longer have flavours or tastes first thought of perhaps.. I had the haddock.. the asparagus had no flavour and overcooked.. we had to return the duck dish for just drenched in sugar ..couldn't taste the duck.. The starters the scallops were in a terrible runny sauce and over cooked ..not a great flavour at all.. over all disappointed with food experience which was expensive. Some staff were nice and was great to dine in the oldest restaurant in the UK, i guess .. needs to revamp its menu.. watch your head if you are tall..

I used to go to the Fleur de Lys often but i havent been for many years. Now this pub, built in 1096 is tastefully decorated and although still a pub the emphasis is on dining. My cousin and I both have 5 star hotel backgrounds so we tend to have high expectations that are rarely met. There were so many tempting choices on the menu but as it was a crisp Sunday we settled on the Roast. We didn't order a starter as the desserts looked good, but while waiting the chef appeared with 2 cups of freshly made roasted tomato and basil soup with home made focaccia, it was divine, richly flavoured, light but creamy. As it wasnt too busy the 2 chefs were also serving and our main course was served by the chef. 2 thick pieces of perfectly cooked sirloin draped over roasted potatoes, carrot, parsnip and wilted savoy cabbage, a huge fluffy Yorkshire and plenty of delicious gravy. With a side serving of cauliflower cheese which could have been a meal on it's own. For £25 it was a substantial meal and every mouthful delicious. We followed with the Chocolate Marquise, with home-made chocolate ice cream and Palmier which was deeply chocolatey but not too sweet. After finishing with a very good coffee we both agreed we felt 'replete' and very delighted to have found such fine dining 20 minutes from home. We will definitely be returning as we have the menu to work through. Wholeheartedly recommended.

We chose this "pub" to have our lunch in as we wanted to see what the oldest pub in the New Forest was like. On entering, it was apparent that this is more a restaurant than a pub. We were shown to a table and eventually a young man came and took our drinks order. A while later he reappeared with our drinks, poor lad must have been busy serving the three other tables that were occupied. Eventually he appeared again to take our food order. When this arrived some time later ( a couple that arrived after us were served their meal before us) it was, to be fair, quite nice. The whole experience was not as expected, poor service and an overwhelming feeling that we were not exactly welcome. It must be mentioned that when you come to pay the bill that you read it carefully. I, unfortunately did not, and ended up paying a 10% service charge that they had levied without my knowledge. All in all, not a good experience and definitely a place we will not return too. Caveat emptor!

Lovely little pub with great history. Very warm welcome from all staff. The atmosphere was lovely and country-esk. They accepted dogs which was fab. The food was absolutely beautiful, faultless and served timely and with carefully thought about presentation. We had the Monkfish Scampi and Salt and Pepper squid, both superb. For mains we had Halibut in a lobster bisque, and the Chicken and Ham hock pie - full of flavour from start to finish. To end we shared the sticky toffee pudding which was topped with delicious honey comb. We even had the chef and owner come out and chat with us which was such a lovely touch. Wonderful experience, will definitely be back when we’re next in the area!

A little disappointed to be honest! We own a restaurant and know good food and service. The food was great, no issues there at all. My problem was with the service. First of all it took almost half an hour to get our order taken, with the waitress admitting that she forgot. We let that go as these things do happen. We were going to have a starter but decided against it after waiting so long. Then the main course plates took such a long time to clear (until my husband asked) that we decided against desert too. When my husband went to the loo, he saw the staff stood around chatting. Because of their lack of awareness, the restaurant did themselves out of starters and desserts from us. It was a late Sunday afternoon and I believe it was towards the end of the shift and the staff simply couldn't be bothered anymore- a real shame as this place charges a premium and the service didn't match the price. We will probably give it another go and I really hope the restaurant reads this and acts upon the service.

Booked a table for 5 guests for my father’s birthday due to the positive reviews. The entire experience was a let down. The service was at best average from 3 members of staff who struggled to use any manners between them. The roasts were £25 each which was totally inflated for the quality and presentation of food on the plate. The duck starter contained meat which was inedible due to it being rock hard but when the waiter was politely informed, the response was, ‘I’ll let the chef know.’ In hindsight, we shouldn’t have paid for the duck but we did. Needless to say, we will not be returning.

There is no doubt that this is a very attractive period pub both inside and out Bags of atmosphere and low beamed ceilings. If you are over 6 ft in height, you could well come out with a sore head, so be alert. The decor is subdued and well in keeping of the features in the bar and dining room. The food is second to none but the waiter service was a little on the slow. It would appear that there were only two staff on duty that night, the chef, who was not only cooking but serving tables as well. as well as a waiter who was also manning the bar. When we arrived, the chef was trying to light the large log fire.......he couldn't, but managed to fill the room with a thin layer of smoke which stung my eyes for a while. Two downsides for me. Because of all the hard surfaces around, as the room filled up with guests, it became very 'shouty' and being hard of hearing, I found it very difficult to indulge in conversation. The other point was the bill. There was a 10% service charge added. I don't recall seeing that on the menu probably because I had checked out the menu on line and didn't see it there. Personally, I prefer to tip the old fashioned way. I know I could have asked for the charge to be removed, but when my tip would have been the same, there seemed little point. Luckily there had been no hiccups. For those that have normal hearing, I can thoroughly recommend this place, for those whose hearing is challenged, I'm not so sure. It depends on your priorities.

What a find! Beautiful pub in a stunning area. I am really glad that it has been recommended to us. The food is amazing, not cheap but definitely worth it. Highly recommended!

We had been to this pub many years ago and recently to The Magic Duck in Lymington where we had enjoyed the food so we thought we would take our neighbours here who had never been to either when we found out they had moved...

Just popped in for a drink in the beer garden early Sunday afternoon. V friendly staff and nice setting. Doggie friendly. We didn’t eat but the Sunday roast being served looked incredible. Will definitely go back for lunch!

Great News, Steve is back at the Fleur de Lys Pilley. Such a talented chef who never lets you down. The starters are awesome…pick a few and share. We both went for the halibut, and WOW was it good. Fine cooking in a beautiful setting;...

The food was good but imo not totally worthy of the price tag. People were friendly especially the new waitress. I think the real negative was asking for a take out bottle of wine and being given a £40 bottle of Sauvignon blanc. I could...

It says fine dining on the board outside. For a pub, it really is. Landlady v welcoming, goats cheese mousse, scallops and risotto all very good.

Lovely venue, fabulous food but pricey for pub food. Would expect proper home made chips not fries with beef Wellington that was priced at £38 on the menu. And to top it all added 10% service charge to the bill without asking !!! Not happy Where...

1st time here; chose it as a lunchtime venue for our wedding anniversary. Disappointed that the full menu wasn't available, but Ben, more than made up for it with his suggestion of 'salt & pepper squid'....yummy. Will def return for their Sunday roast.

This pub has recently reopened after being closed for some time and I can thoroughly recommend it. It is very old with low ceilings, worn slate floor in the entrance. Very atmospheric. The landlords are friendly and service was quick and professional. The food was...

We chose to stop here specifically as there was a rapid charger for our EV. The grounds are relaxing and quiet. The conservatory restaurant had a good atmosphere and the service friendly and courteous. We had the Gnocchi and Ploughmans for lunch. Both were very tasty and well presented. Puddings were light and refreshing. Prices are not cheap but good food is worth paying for. Having tried out the restaurant and general ambience we are very likely to arrange a weekend break here soon.

En route back from Southampton we broke our train journey home @ Brockenhurst and dropped into the Forresters for a couple of drinks - Saturday evening husell and bussel - a busy local with atmosphere - great for a drink and being near to station was really handy.
