A lovely hotel, with lots of history and character. The rooms could do with an upgrade but are more than sufficient. The staff and mangement in the main hotel are sensentational and both restaurants, Cambium and Zen Garden are 5*. We had superb evening meals in both. You can walk out to the New Forest in a matter of minutes and emmerse yourself with the wild horses and enjoy a long country walk. The spa in our experience let the hotel down, I would advise anyone staying and planning to use the spa to ensure you call to ensure all facilities are included when you book treatments/a package. Unfortunately when we arrived we found out the Hydro area was not included even though we had spent a substantial amount on treatments over our weekend stay. The staff unfortunately let the spa down and weren't very helpful and didn't look to resolve matters.

Disappointed - had an afternoon tea treat given us as a present - expected first class service, and was offered a glass of water when we arrived - a pot of tea arrived after quarter of an hour, and the food, which was very good, finally arrived after half an hour. Abysmal service, a large empty 'dining' room, no ambience. Have had better experiences in an ordinary pub.

We were looking forward to our Bank holiday stay at Carey's Manor. All of the staff we encountered were fantastic and a credit to you, however regrettably the hotel was extremely overpriced for the experience we had. We paid £541 for a two night stay at Carey's Manor which would have been absolutely fine if we'd received value for money. From the moment we arrived, it became apparent that absolutely nothing was included for that price. We were looking forward to trying the French restaurant but we were told upon arrival that there were no spaces at the restaurant at all. We went to have a cocktail at the hotel bar and swiftly walked away. The cocktails were obscenely priced ranging from £15-18!! I'm not quite sure whether the person writing the cocktail menu had drunk several themselves whilst pricing the drinks! I have lived in London for several years and I have rarely encountered a place even there that charged that amount for a cocktail. We walked a few minutes down the road to the Huntsman pub and had a few delicious, reasonably priced cocktails in a lovely beer garden- I highly recommend going for a drink there instead! The majority of the rooms are not located in the beautiful red brick main building. Instead they are located towards the back in a 1960's type building that resembles a nursing home or a halls of residence. This would have been fine had it been reflected in the price. The bed was lovely and comfortable but the room was incredibly hot with no air conditioning and only a fan. We had an issue with the radiator in the bathroom leaking that we reported to reception at approximately midday, this wasn't rectified and there was a growing puddle on the floor when we returned from our evening out. We paid extra (£39 each) to use the hydropool which we enjoyed greatly. We were aware prior to arrival that there would be an extra charge to use these facilities so we decided to assess how good the leisure facilities were on arrival. The basic pool/sauna that is included was extremely basic so we felt that the only way we could fully enjoy the spa that we had travelled a long way for would be to pay extra. I have stayed in many spa hotels, both abroad and in the UK and I have never experienced a hotel charging extra for guests to use the facilities. It seems that this is another way to make money out of guests who have already paid extortionate rates. Finally, we did not even have the continental breakfast included with our room. When we went for breakfast in the morning, we were initially told that we couldn't have the continental breakfast. Luckily a helpful member of staff at reception assisted us and we were given the continental breakfast for one day of our stay. The continental breakfast is priced at £20 per person and the selection was incredibly measly! A full English or cooked option should absolutely be available for the prices of the rooms. The hotel is situated in a beautiful location and I would happily stay again should the prices reflect what is actually on offer. From beginning to end, it felt like everything was an opportunity for the hotel to make extra money.

Firstly the staff are a real credit to CM, they cannot do enough for you. We booked a midweek overnight stay in one of the garden rooms and it was very pleasant. We requested ground floor with patio and it was lovely to sit outside with a drink amongst the greenery. Room clean and beds super comfy! Some may say a little dated, but we were comfortable. Bath (plug area) a bit worn, but we both used the shower (nice strong jet). We were footsteps away from the spa so an ideal position. Cambium restaurant looked less cramped than a previous visit a few years ago. Meals very nice, if a little expensive - luckily we had a £70 room allowance as we booked the dining package. Spa a little busy when we arrived, but the next morning it was quiet. Sadly we weren't allowed access to the Hydrotherapy area and Relaxation room, which was disappointing as we had access on a Spa day. It meant we just had the pool and very small sauna and steam room. An extra £40 each we could have gained access to other areas - £300 was enough for an overnight stay for us really. Treatments expensive, £50 for a Mini Massage (20 mins) and that was the cheapest! I had my nails done elsewhere for a quarter of the price too! Beware of the service charge as well when it comes to checking out, you are not required to pay this. Overall a lovely stay and may return to try the Zen Restaurant menu.

Upon arrival, we were delighted with the beautiful and well-maintained building. It had lots of character and was exceptionally clean throughout. From our first contact, until we left, we couldn't fault it. They provided us with a memorable and relaxing break. At the reception, we were greeted by two helpful and lovely ladies. We had a superior garden room which was large and quiet. A private outdoor seating area overlooking the lovely grounds was also very pleasant. The spa was welcoming and all the facilities we used were clean. The food was exceptional. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast in the Cambium restaurant. After they heard about our wedding on the same day, the fabulous lady brought us a glass of Prosecco and a beautiful congratulations plate. We were served a fabulous and freshly cooked dinner as well as a full continental breakfast with so much choice. We are really looking forward to coming back to Careys Manor in the future.

Special shout outs to Francoise, Rachel, Dida, and Anthony who really shone in making our day special. I have to say that Careys Senspa customer service is amazing. The spa facilities are amazing, it truly a place of tranquility and relaxation. The treatments are indulgent but totally worth it. I’ve been to the Senspa numerous times, my most recent visit left me feeling rather deflated due to a firm massage that I was upset about. I’d like to mention to anyone that has a treatment all masseuses consider pressure different, of course. If something doesn’t feel right then make sure you communicate that, I know the ladies are Thai and there can be a language barrier. I felt the need to speak to the manager (yes, I was that person) and I can honestly say that Steph was the best person to receive a complaint. I felt awful even mentioning my experience, but Steph took a negative and turned it into a positive and really took the time to listen. I will definitely be going back soon, and next time I’ll just speak up if a massage hurts.

Did not live up to the hype! The French restaurant was absolutely wonderful, but our room was nothing like the photos on the website and was very outdated; it did not feel luxurious at all. For £326 for one night I’d expect much better. The bedrooms are not in the main beautiful house which is heavily featured on the website, but in a more modern annex out the back with inadequate parking and a very un-luxurious feel.

The afternoon tea was in a strange room, lacking in atmosphere, you didn’t really want to linger too long. Felt very off kilter with the rest of the main building and it’s beautiful features. It would have been nicer to have sat is one of the cosy lounge areas. The afternoon tea it’s self started off well, nice selection of sandwiches and the scones were light and delicious. The cakes however were not. A strange selection and tasted quite stale, so we left them. I over heard the lady next to us complain that this was the worst afternoon tea she had ever had which I felt was a little extreme but then this was a birthday present from my mother in law so I couldn’t complain too much as I didn’t pay. If I had paid, I probably would have complained to the staff as at £28 a head, it was not cheap. Avoid.

My Husband booked afternoon tea for my Birthday as a surprise. When we arrived there was nobody waiting in the restaurant to greet us. We had to ask the bar man where to go. He sat us in a lounge on a sofa. Perplexed, we asked if we could sit at an actual table as it was a special occasion and a sofa is too low down to eat from (and too casual!) He said he would ask someone. About 10-15 minutes went past and a lady appeared and asked us if we were being looked after. We told her we were waiting; she said follow me. We walked past the same bar man who was behind the bar serving drinks! She sat us in the restaurant which only had two occupied tables. By this point 35 minutes had gone by. She said she would get us the teas. They were just tea bags. There was no table cloth and the teapots were stainless steel canteen style. The food arrived and I was surprised at the amount - The savouries were a tiny rye bread, a tiny sausage roll and two finger sandwiches each. I’m sorry to say I did not enjoy the food. The cakes tasted artificial and cheap. I actually had to leave parts of them which is extremely unlike me - I love cake! The table behind us were also saying they had not enjoyed the cakes. The clotted cream tasted off. The scones were small. The one saving grace was that the female waitress was lovely with our little girl and was good at her job. Nobody mentioned my Birthday despite my Husband making a note of it on the booking. At the end of this experience we sat waiting for somebody to come to our table for quite some time. Unfortunately I had to leave the room to go to the bar to ask the bar man if somebody could take our payment. The bill came and I was absolutely in shock to see that on top of the charge for food - £28pp, they had added VAT as well as a 12.5% service charge! My Husband did not want to make a scene so he paid it. I was not best pleased. An awful lot here that needs to be improved!

Afternoon tea. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were lovely, plenty of cream and jam and a pot of tea each and although not offered any more tea during the afternoon, one pot was plenty. I did find it disappointing that they use hospital grade thick white china crockery and stainless steel teapots - I was expecting some pretty patterned bone china considering the venue. Also, when we tried to add two extra people to our booking of 5, the lady was quite abrupt and told us they were fully booked. Fortunately we tried again the next day and were told there was no problem to add extra guests and in fact a good two thirds of the tables were unoccupied, so management may want to look into that.

This afternoon tea was a Christmas gift for my Mum. When we arrived, we struggled a bit to find the reception and when we eventually did, we were taken to a nice cosy room but quickly prompted to move to a big room with huge empty space in the middle and a wooden table which had a box of teas on display. Quite a few tables were taken but there was a strange atmosphere there and very strange music playing in the background. When we looked closely at our crockery and cutlery, this was not only mismatched but also very dirty! And so were the seats! We waited about 20 minutes for the food to arrive and it was quite disappointing too. Not sure why afternoon tea is not being served in that nice cosy room next to the restaurant. The service was prompt and the waitresses were very polite but overall I expected a bit more from a beautiful place like this.

The egg mayonnaise had no seasoning. We weren't offered more tea or water. The macaroons were over cooked when we bit into them they just crumbled. Sadly one of cakes had no taste at all. The scones and opera cake were both lovely with plenty of clotted cream and jam. But what upset me the most we were expecting to pay £72 but it ended up to be £81!!!! They added VAT after and a service charge. Extortionate amount of money. Shame because I go out for a lot of afternoon teas, definitely won't be going again. When we came out to reception to find the toilets the 2 receptionist didn't acknowledge us and carried on chatting. When we left they were still chatting again totally ignoring us. Lovely food however we booked a vegetarian afternoon tea for myself & when the afternoon tea arrived, I had to double check it was as it looked like one of the cakes had gelatin in it. When our server came back, she had with her a brownie as the cake did in fact have gelatin in it. Another point that was quite disappointing is the table opposite us had a different server and they appeared to have much better service then us! Their server offered them tea, coffee or hot chocolate where we were just asked what kind of tea we would like (we both asked for a coffee). When they received their food, the server went through what each item was whereas ours was just put in front of us (which I had to check was vegetarian). No one checked if our coffee needed refilling either. Overall the food was delicious but I feel like all servers should have the same standard and notes should be checked before sending out non vegetarian food to a veggie.

There was only us 2 & 2 other diners in the room & the waiter was out of the room most of the time which meant our drinks were often left empty for long periods before he would return & we were charged a 12% service charge for this. The tea was huge! More than we could fit in. The waiter was a little grumpy and did not appear friendly. The service was quick, but considering there were not many people in the restruant I was expecting it a littl more friendly.

Having arranged a Christmas afternoon tea with 6 friends, we were looking forward to a lovely experience. However sadly that was not the case. Firstly we were seated around a small coffee table on which it was a struggle to fit the food and tea pots. Secondly, the staff took an age to serve us drinks (tea) - we had to keep reminding them. Thirdly, although the sandwiches were beautifully presented there weren't enough for our size group. Finally and most disappointingly, the cake selection was poor and very dry and the scones were as hard as rocks! None of us could eat them.... We were expecting more from such a high calibre restaurant.

Visited today for champagne afternoon tea; we were warmly welcomed and shown into a comfortable and informal lounge with plenty of choice of where to sit. The food offered was of superb quality - small delicious sandwiches, cakes, trifle and two scones each! The champagne was lovely, the black tea from Camellia's Tea House divine; as was the rooibos tea which my sister had. This is a substantial meal.....we're still full hours later! Highly recommend.

You need a good appetite for this sumptuous spread which includes a small selection of sandwiches on different breads, several individual cakes and of course scones served warm with strawberry jam and clotted cream. There is a good selection of teas to choose from including some unfamilar ones. Service is very good and attentive.

We booked an afternoon tea for our mum in law for her birthday and it was fantastic. The hotel is beautiful and had a lovely relaxed atmosphere. We were served by attentive staff who really made the experience feel special. Our afternoon tea consisted of sandwiches and a beautiful selection on cakes and freshly baked scones. I let the staff know I was vegetarian and was provided with my own lovely cakes! Thank you so much, me and the girls can't wait to return for a spa day soon :)

Wonderful afternoon tea with great choice of teas. Knowledgeable waiter who explained the best ways of enjoying afternoon tea. Tea comes in cafetière type teapot with sand tea timers so that you can time your best brew. Scones warm. Cakes and sandwiches fresh and delicious. Catered well for different diets with notice. My daughter in law needs a gluten free diet which she was catered for perfectly. Fantastic scenery and comfortable chairs. Altogether a wonderful tea.

We were given a voucher for afternoon tea for 2 at Carey Manor Hotel. The outside of the hotel was really impressive especially under a bright blue sky! We chose to sit indoors for a smoke-free environment. Our afternoon tea was served in a large sitting room with comfortable sofas and chairs. The food was really lovely - crustless sandwiches, 4 freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam, 2 miniature trifle plus chocolate and small cakes which I couldn't manage! The waiter suggested and gave us a takeaway box! The service was great as was the setting. However we would have preferred to eat our food at a dining table and then relax on the sofa with a coffee/tea. But overall, it was a really lovely way to pass an afternoon.

Booked their festive afternoon tea for a pre-Christmas treat. We were greeted by Jeremy who offered us the choice of taking tea in the lounge or the new restaurant. We chose the new restaurant and after a few minutes our platter and drinks arrived. Small, tasty sandwiches and an excellent range of cakes and sweet treats including a shot glass containing what can best be described as a deconstructed christmas pud with frosting. Would have liked a more festive atmosphere beyond the rustic christmas decorations on the tables but we were well looked after and enjoyed the visit.

We went for an impromptu afternoon tea last week and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, the selection consisted of various finger sandwiches (egg and cress, smoked salmon, ham etc) and were all fresh and tasty, the scones were warm with a good quantity of clotted cream and jam on the side, the selection of cakes was good and very well presented. Looking forward to a return visit! If I have one criticism it is that the bar/lounge area has not been refurbished like the restaurant and appears quite tired and dated, but all in all a great visit.

We had written confirmation of a booking for 3' but when we arrived they only had a record for 2' so hastily cleaned a table. No afternoon tea menu was presented, so no choice of tea. The whole experience was disjointed and we had to ask for basic things, like the sandwiches and cakes!

We were staying at careys manor for my husbands birthday. We really liked the hotel and also the afternoon tea at montagu arms (their sister hotel) so were surprised that the afternoon tea here was nothing special. The staff were not very attentive, they didn't really seem to know how to serve afternoon tea (we weren't offered a choice of teas for example or even drinks or a menu....just 'tea or coffee'). The food was fine but sandwiches were basic in look and taste. The hotel were very good about our complaint and reduced the bill. The issues may be due to the afternoon tea not being in their usual restaurant and in the spa instead so perhaps there service and standards are usually better as it didn't seem to fit with the rest of our experience which was great.

My husband and i booked this as a treat on our recent break to the New Forest. We rang up in the morning to say we would be 1 hour late and were assured this was fine. However when we arrived we were told 'you're late' and 'we need the table back by 6', giving us 30 mins to wolf down the tea! The food itself was delicious, sandwiches were a bit plain (cucumber and cream cheese, ham & mustard, smoked salmon) but the cakes and scones made up for them! The coffee was cold, and were abruptly told that's because we put milk in it! Despite wanting the table back quickly we then had to go up and ask for the bill, and then take it through to the bar to pay as no-one would collect the money!

Went to the Senspa first then had afternoon tea with a quality glass of champagne freshly opened. To start we had a small bowl of creme brulee and then the sandwiches which were well filled and tasty, good choice of cakes, scones were fresh but as well as jam and cream were accompanied by lemon curd custard which was unusul but very good. Service was first class and we could not fault anything. Well done.

The Manor Restaurant is their "Fine Dining" — it was weird! We were asked if we would like a drink in the bar area but it looked like a waiting room so we opted to go straight to the table. Our first mis-understanding as the staff did't offer any drinks or water until we asked. Ok, along came the G&T;'s plus a glass of wine - I didn't order a glass of wine, I ordered a bottle! Next came a large bread roll for four people and told it was with compliments of the chef. But the third member of the restaurant's staff came over and said we really needed another. Our first course came, then the really long pause for the mains - constantly being told they were on the way. The food was quite nice, but the whole experience was old fashioned with weird staff whose English was a constant; "Thank you so much". As local people, I should have known to avoid this place as no one locally ever talks about it. So that says something?

Another disappointing afternoon cream tea. Voucher bought for me by my son, so took my sister to Carey's. Sandwiches were acceptable, but cakes could have easily have come from the local shop. The tea room (lounge) was decidedly very shabby. First easy chair my sister sat in nearly collapsed, and the arms of the upholstered chairs were very grubby. The general decor was poor, and although offered a free tea after a later complaint, shall not be visiting Carey's Manor hotel again.

I recently took my parents for afternoon tea as a special treat. They were bitterly disappointed when the cakes came to the table and where shop bought, not home made as said in the menu. One cake was a sliced up mr Kipling battenburg that I could have bought from tesco (probably where they bought it from). Scones were dry and where not warmed. The tea and coffee was brought at different times and the service was slow.
