We quickly needed a venue for family gathering of 10 adults. Good table with plenty of room, good choice of mains (the Clam Linguine :delicious) which were all generous portions and tasty. Service was great, attentive and cheerful. Locals v friendly - also is a dog friendly pub Certainly can recommend and will be back when in that area again.

A proper traditional pub serving proper pub food, ales, lagers, wines and spirits. Pleased to say this is probably the only place in the New Forest that serves proper burger buns with their burgers and not brioche or pretzel buns. Food is not overly priced. Portion sizes are guarenteed to leave you feeling sated and there's no shame in asking for leftovers to be boxed. Outdoor eating area plus covered section. Outdoor play area for children to run around and let off steam. Plenty of free parking. 2 television screen indoors showing sport but this is unintrusive if dining in the dining arra Definately worth visiting. Dog friendly, disabled toilet fascilities. Very friendly.staff espicially Kate.

Went for a roast today. Took the family. 5 adults 2 kids. 1.30pm. In short, really disappointing. Despite the best efforts of the staff (who were clearly overwhelmed as there was only 3 running FOH) so I’m not going to criticise them. The food however really really poor. The roasts were bland, flavourless and covered in the most watery gravy I’ve ever had. Very disappointing as we’d had an amazing meal as recently as August of this year. This pub is a GREAT pub and we’ve spent a lot of time (and even worked in) over the years but today was a disappointing experience. All credit to the staff who were there as it was clear they were overwhelmed. Manager who did take our feedback was great so, he’s a credit to the business. Hope for better next time.

Lovely traditional country pub and independently owned which is rare in the New Forest area. Good menu covering everything and definitely good value for money as portions were huge. We had prawn and chilli pasta and scampi and chips both delicious. Really friendly staff and food is served from 12 till late unlike a lot of other pubs and restaurants in the area. Whatever you choose to eat you must have the chips they were so good. Look forward to visiting again in the future.

We were a party of 4 adults and had booked in advance. It was a late lunch early dinner booked for 3:45pm. Upon arrival there were three members of staff behind the bar and a few customers but no one else eating. The staff were pleasant but not overly enthusiastic or accommodating. We were advised to sit wherever we liked and found an inside table and ordered drinks at the bar and took them to our table. Previously there had been table service when eating inside but it became clear this was not the case on this occasion as no one came to take our order. Order was placed at the bar and we returned to the table. Three out of four had starters which arrived fairly promptly and were enjoyed. Next came the mains and this is where the disappointment and drop in standards started. Two of four ordered the ploughman’s which were tiny! They were served on the same small rectangular chopping boards the starters had been served on. Each had half a ciabatta roll sliced, small triangle of cheese, one slice of cooked ham, small pork pie, one pickle and a handful of salad leaves and tomato. One of the four had a ham salad which came in a large bowl and look much more appetising than the ploughman’s. One of the four had cheese burger with fries and salad with a request to hold the onion and no dressing on the salad. The meal arrived without onion but the salad was fully covered in dressing. The burger was very thin and dry with little flavour. Once mains were finished we had to return to the bar to obtain more drinks as no one asked at the table even when the glasses were empty. Whilst there we ordered one chocolate brownie with ice cream and one coffee. We were advised that there was no ice cream! Returning to the table no one came to remove the main course plates from the table! The brownie arrived and there was no where to place it because the table was full of empty plates and glasses. We had to rearrange the table ourselves to make room for the pudding. The coffee arrived and it was clear that no one was going to take the used plates away until we specifically asked. One of our party then asked for the bill whilst going to use the bathroom and this was brought to the table and we were told to pay at the bar. No please no tank you just pay at the bar. Upon payment (in full despite the poor service) one of the party expressed that we would not be returning ever again. One member of staff did come over to enquire as to why but when advised it was very poor service and the portion sizes they didn’t say anything. The staff were all very young and the two very young lads who came in later were very pro active with collecting glasses from the garden and cleaning tables unlike the three original staff who were there when we arrived. The staff on arrival appeared to be more interested in chatting and having a joke with whoever was working in the kitchen. All of which could be heard through the door in the restaurant area next to the fireplace. Unfortunately we will not be returning to waste another £125 plus on a poor meal and even poorer service. Shame really as it had always been a good pub with great food and service.

Went for Sunday lunch here and had a table booked. Good selection of beers and wines and soft drinks - it's a pub so you'd hope so aye. Struggled to get a pot of tea- gave 2 large cups instead, one obviously went cold,I don't mind cold tea but if you did that's a bit of a problem. Also spilt my tea and didn't return to clean it up. Ordered the roasts and when the food arrived 15/20 minutes (pub was very quiet) No stuffing or chipolatas wrapped in bacon which they were advertised as coming with. Went to ask the guy behind the bar where they were before I could speak he said" if you you're going to ask where the stuffing is we don't have any" I also mentioned about the pigs in blankets. Would have been nice to know when we ordered that they didn't have stuffing. They brought the chipolatas wrapped in bacon after 10 minutes. Veg was very tasty but the roasties were not crispy. Don't think the Yorkshire puddings were home made either. Went to pay and the same guy (skinny, tall, dark haired, young fella)behind the bar didn't notice I'd arrived as he was on his phone. All in all the food was just about acceptable. Customer service was poor If this was my pub I wouldn't be happy with the front of house staff. Beautiful garden with a lovely alfresco dining area, fantastic play area and even a bouncy castle. Inside - standard country pub character

Booked for a Sunday roast. We had a starter of Camembert to share which we had to send back because it was cold and solid in the centre. The roast was very large with more than enough on the plate. The roast potatoes were not roasted. To me a roast potatoes are crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy inside. These were so hard I was unable to push the fork into let alone eat it. Yorkshire pudding was cold and stoggy . Such a shame that the quality was so poor. Would I recommend the Sunday roast , no.

Went to The Plough Inn whilst on caravanning holiday. It was a Monday evening and due to a busy weekend some of the menu items were unavailable. However ordered our meal(s) and was amazed at the size of the portions. The prawn & crayfish salad starter was huge. Both of the main meals were also of ample portions. The food was well presented and very tasty. The staff on duty were friendly and attentive. So impressed at the service, quality of food and size of portions we booked to return on the Friday evening. Friday evening turned out to be a complete contrast to our previous encounter. We were given two menus and told we could sit anywhere. After some 15 to 20 minutes I got up to go to the bar to see if anyone was bothering to serve us. Before I got to the bar was met by a young man coming to take our order. He came equipped with pad and pen, which didn’t write. Took our order using his phone. Had to repeat out order both drinks and food some 3 times before he got it right. When the main meal arrived the server tipped my plate allowing some chips to fall to the floor, no sorry, nor do you want some more. My meal was well cooked and very tasty. My partners meal was a different story. She ordered the pie. The top of the pie crust was over cooked to point of being burnt on one side. The pastry was hard and obviously overcooked. The accompanying veg tasted as if they were frozen veg and the mashed potato was at best bland. Very difficult to understand what went so very wrong from the Monday evening to the Friday evening. Had the Friday experience been our first encounter we most certainly would never have darkened the door again.

Lovely pub, wonderful service from all the staff. The food menu is newly priced similar to that of a high end pub serving high end food, however this is not the case. Food was dry, overcooked and for the standard of food in general, was hugely overpriced. If they nailed the food side of things here, it’d be a regular visit for dinner.

Unfortunately had a poor experience here, dining as a group of 11. We had booked a table in advance but ended up waiting over 2 hours for our food to arrive which was frustrating as it affected our plans for the rest of the day. The pub was not busy so assume the kitchen was understaffed. 2 of us were vegans - there were a few options marked as vegan on the menu (vegan burger and vegan pie on the specials board) which we ordered. We also asked if the veg soup could be made vegan, to which the answer was no which we were fine with. After waiting 2 hours for our food, the vegan pie arrived with mash which tasted very buttery, and the burger came with coleslaw which did not seem vegan so we asked the waitress to check with the kitchen. She came back and asked if any of us were “actually vegan”, then went back to the kitchen and came back to tell us that no the mash and coleslaw were not vegan. To her credit she did offer to take away the non vegan things and gave us some chips to substitute the mash. However, given that we ordered things which were labelled vegan on the menu and that we’d specifically asked about making things vegan, the last thing we’d expect is to be served something non vegan. Advice to the kitchen; if you have a main labelled as vegan, make sure everything else on the plate is vegan! Overall, the food was average to good quality. The vegan burger itself was a bit dry as it only had a patty and nothing else. Pie was good and others in our group were satisfied with the quality of food, just not the speed.

Went for a birthday meal here and left disappointed. The lasagna was far too cheesy with a strange watery sauce pooling in the corners. Neither I, nor another of our party who also had the lasagna, could finish it. The side order of coleslaw was actually inedible. It seemed to be about 50 percent mayonaise, 40 percent onion and some odd seasoning. How can you get coleslaw wrong?! The macaroni cheese was also awful. Very overcooked, watery pasta in a watery cheese sauce. Definitely wont be returning.

We arrived and started to question our restaurant choice straight away with the not so nice interior of the pub. (Outside looks nice though!) We decided to just stay and give it a go. After ordering burgers (very simple pub food) it took over 30 minutes for our food to appear, even though this was at 5.15! When we did eventually get our food, we could just tell the food was poor quality. The burger had gristle in it and the coleslaw just was not nice! I tasted like it had been in the microwave. The worst thing about this.... 2 adult meals, a child's meal and soft drinks cost £45!!

As a visitor to the area only, we located this gem originally in 2022 and had the best rump steaks ever. Sadly in 2023 we had the worst rump steaks ever, even when one was replaced. I have to put this down to the butcher though as I hope it wasn't the chef. They did not fully charge for the food, which was fair. We will still return again, but will probably select other meals. Despite the disappointment, I would beg you to support this pub before it becomes another victim during these hard times. The staff are great and whilst it could do with an injection of money it must be remembered that part of it's charm is the fact that it is old and post Covid has seen massive cost increases for the hospitality sector. It has open and shaded areas in the very large garden as well as a play area. Keeping away from noise is easy. Times are hard but they will be even harder without pubs like this. Note to the owner: Please remove those ugly highchairs from your lovely inglenook fireplace. There has to be somewhere else to put them to avoid ruining the view of your great asset.

Having waited over an hour to be served the meals eventually arrived after having to speak to two waitresses who were morose and obviously not enjoying their jobs whatsoever. One was actually quite rude. My daughter had a chicken burger which was in a bun with nothing inside whatsoever. I had the crispy beef and could barely eat it. I can’t even describe it, it wasn’t crispy for a start and had no taste. Very disappointing as we are local and hoped it would be somewhere we would enjoy going on a regular basis ☹️ We didn’t say anything as we’d had to prepay and with the staff seemingly unhelpful quite honestly we just wanted to put it down to experience and get out.

Used to love coming here in the past, but it’s gone so downhill and we definitely will not return again, especially when there’s so many lovely pub restaurants in the area. We came at a very quiet time today, yet the staff were very unfriendly and appeared to avoid us, and it wasn’t easy to get anybody’s attention. They got our drinks order wrong (there was only 3 of us drinking soft drinks), the Hunter’s Chicken came covered in ketchup instead of bbq sauce, the ‘stone baked’ pizza was a frozen pre-made pizza base that was still soggy and uncooked underneath, covered in cheese to try and cover it up, and the pork belly… where to start. No ‘seasonal veg’, there was only approximately 2 mouthfuls of pork in the bowl, with a load of sludge chucked on top of it which made the potato wedges soggy and inedible and it was basically just a bowl full of peas. Wouldn’t have even fed that to our dogs. No one thought to ask how our food was or checked in with us. The indoor area was covered in flies and was extremely dark. They obviously don’t look after the place anymore as all the plants outside the front and back are dead and covered in weeds too. Spend your money and time elsewhere!

We'd been before and thought it was nice. The food was good but they didn't have my pudding I wanted so I had ice cream. When we got the bill the pudding was on there and not the ice cream. I was told the price was the same. But the main Thing was I dont think the cleaner did a good job. The first table we went to was a little dirty, but pretty dirty underneath. We moved over but I could see more dirt/food/napkin in the floor. The shelf by the window was dusty and there was a dead wasp on there. But the good was good and the staff were good. Won't intice me to go back though. Sorry guys.

This pub serves unpretentious, average pub fare at very reasonable prices. It is also dog friendly in the bar area.

Minus stars. Absolutely disgusting we were completely forgotten about then other tables served before us. Then told they ran out of food the place is an absolute joke. Management are not managing completely out of their depth can't cope with amount of people avoid this pub. They completely ruined my mums birthday

The plough has really been great during the summer holidays. They have definitely been an asset in the community. Good play area and on some days free tea/coffee and free juice for the kids. Well done 👏. We've enjoyed spending time there 👍

First time here and was excited to try somewhere new, but was let down. We pre booked a table but when we arrived it felt like we were invisible to get seated. Food was a massive let down, bad quality for the price and over cooked, tasted like supermarket frozen section for coast to coast. Lasagna and macaroni cheese was swimming with grease and masses of stringy cheese. Complained and gave a small discount but didn’t seem very genuine about taking on board the complaint, it’s safe to say we will not be back!

Nice open garden with plenty of seating and a large covered area outside and a play area for the children. My partner and I ate in the rear garden the food didn't take to long to arrive. Help yourself to a good selection of condiments. Our food was hot my partner had Hunters Chicken which was very nice. But I had Pork Belly and I was really looking forward to it. Crackling was soft, and the rest of it was dry Not good. My partner tried it and straight away said it was old and it didnt taste quite right. I definitely wouldn't recommend the Pork Belly what a shame I'm hoping it's a one off so I might try it again before the end of the year. If it's bad again, then I'll give it a really bad review

Our toddler had a nice time in the play area but apart from that our visit was pretty disappointing. The pub was relatively quiet but we waited over an hour for our food to arrive. I ordered a pie which was really burnt, which they'd tried to hide with gravy instead of just cooking another one. I was going to ask for something else as it was difficult to eat, but we'd waited so long for our food and no one came to ask how our food was, that we didn't bother and just left disappointed. We wouldn't recommend the food here and won't come again.

Oh how I wish I’d read the reviews before picking this pub for a birthday celebration… An hour and a half wait for simple straight forward orders, we had chosen smaller meals so we could enjoy a dessert but by the time it had arrived we had gone past wanting anything to eat at all! The first 2 dishes came out cold and were taken back to heat up but unfortunately the remaining meals were Luke warm and not well cooked. The order was wrong for one person, who wanted garlic bread not chips… the chips were snatched away a a solitary piece of garlic bread thrown down with not a word spoken! I want to make a point of saying that the girl who took our order was pleasant polite and joined in with the atmosphere when we first arrived, however the blonde girl was rude, surly and throughly unpleasant… may not be her fault as she was put in an impossible position by the kitchen staff but a lesson in customer service wouldn’t go amiss. I’ve had some great meals previously in this lovely old pub but I won’t be returning or recommending until I’m assured things have changed…. We accepted the apology and the discount but it ruined what should have been a fun evening for my 89 year old mum… My advice? Cut your menu to 4/5 mains you can get out hot and in a reasonable time and readvertise yourselves when you are sure you have staff who can handle the great British public who don’t have the sort of money you charge unless they get good service and an acceptable meal…

Poor customer service food Luke warm waited over an hour half to be served.however dog friendly and beer good no return unfortunately. Steve did apologise and halved the bill but it was a birthday treat and we left feeling unsatisfied. It’s a nice pub but staff need a lesson in customer service .

Absolutely stunning pub/restaurant. Staff friendly, girl was a bit shy but no issues. Took a while for us to be served at the table but we were in no rush. Great atmosphere, lovely food, plenty of space and clean. Dessert special had ran out (fudge cake) was a bit disappointing but obviously popular. Would recommend and would re visit

Feeling disappointed with our visit. Ordered the prawn and spinach curry. Five rubbery prawns later, I can only say, very disappointed!! I spoke to the waitress about this, she didn't offer any help. I wish I'd taken this further but I hate confrontation. Won't be going back! Still hungry 😔

Went for Sunday lunch. It was telling that the pub was advertising for cooks, the roast was OK but the gravy tasted like they had gone a bit heavy on the bisto. Service was OK, but you had to order from the bar.
