No idea about G.F and D.F. Served a starter as G.F. but was deep fried in there only main fryer that fries all non G.F. restaurant foods. Only one main offered, dressed crab. Which was mixed with some sort of bulk filler! The salad had a bitter vinigar dressing! non G.F. 3 other friends had an ok meal. Of chicken and skate wing.

We went for Sunday lunch and were not disappointed. Lovely atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff. The food was well presented and tasty so I would recommend it. A couple of small comments for consideration, the prices were top end for a pub style meal and the menu which suited our tastes, may provide a challenge for giving a variety of choice for those with plainer tastes. The venison bourguignon was a little light on the amount of meat for the price and as such the chef should ensure the meat is very lean as I had a couple of gristly pieces which I wouldn't expect to get. That shouldn't detract from what was a very good meal and we would definitely go again.

Stumbled by this absolute gem of a pup on saturday after walking around the Lymington market. Passed by here on accident while haveing coffee and decided to hop in as it was lunch time. Staff was very sweet, atmosphere was great too. Probably very normal for a english pup but as a Tourist i felt it was very homey and comforting. Now iv been here for a few days and on average pup food was usually nothing big, some nibbles some nice fries, some hidden gems here and there. THIS here however was immaculate. As a starter i had the Mushoom and goats cheese tartin, my partner had the crispy fried chicken strips and our friend had the peso hummus and pita. All of these where passed around the table, eaten clean plate, absolutly delicious. Friend skipped on main as they where not hungry but I had the beer batterd cod and my Partner chose the venison. Both where outstanding. The cod was massive, super flakey tender and in a super crisp batter. Fat steakhouse style fries and mushy pea‘s as the sides. The mushy peas are more like a mash, just wanted to clarify as mushy for a food description is maybe offputting as a non brit. My partners venison was super good as well, i personally come from a hunters family and eat alot of venison so im used to good quality and this held up. Cost was fine too payed about ~60£ for 3 people thats pretty average ! So no complaints here. Overall it was a lovely time, the fishermens rest a lil hidden gem in a close to high street area of Lymington. It was absolutley delightfull and i highly recommend it, maybe after the the next Lymington market you feel a lil rumble in your stomach ;)

Booked here for lunch based on reviews left but although my Husbands Pie was good my steak was really tough. Did mention this to staff who apparently mentioned this to Chef. Nothing further said or done. Also husband asked for a pint of shandy and got a half even though he mentioned it twice to waiter (was charged for half) but again not the point really.

Went for Sunday lunch and it was excellent. Very good portions and tender beef. Staff were very efficient and friendly. Defiinitely going back.

Service is very good, nice and attentive, they give you the option for service charge (now adding to the bill is very important to me). The atmosphere is great, you feel into a small old pub, food is ok. Creative, good presentation, should have come warmer though.

Lovely seafood lunch in a cosy pub, good service, good food, esp as we like fish. Good selection of other dishes. Pleasantly surprised. Recommend if visiting Lymington. There is also an outdoor area for the summer months. We will visit again !

A really friendly and welcoming pub. Excellent choice of food on the main and specials menus. The 4 of us all had a roast. Couldn't fault the food, really nice sides too. Staff were very good as well! Would recommend and will definitely return.

Went here for evening meal. Fantastic find, staff were great. First place ive found that does warm pork scratchings with apple sauce as a sharer. Between us we had Game Faggots (Rabbit, pheasent and veal) really nice, Dressed Crab, Sea Bass fillets, and a burger. Desserts were equally as good. Highley recommend the place, was packed so book, also dog friendly inside.

Managed to get Sunday lunch here today at extremely short notice for ourselves and friends we haven’t seen for nearly a year as it was for our friends birthday. So a massive thank you to the landlord for fitting us in. A great old traditional cosy pub a dieing think in these hard times and very lucky to have it on our doorstep. The food here is absolutely first class and came out from the kitchen piping hot and not just your normal run of the mill pub food. A fantastic selection on the menu for everyone and very well priced too. Plus very inventive staff always makes a meal so much better. Highly recommend this Gem a massive thank you from all of us.

We had a fabulous dinner here. We were in the area for business and were staying about a 10 minute walk away. We had starters and mains. The starters were good, although my husband would have liked a little salad with his pate and maybe a little less bread. My crispy duck salad was good, but I would have preferred no noodles and maybe a few more leaves. It was LARGE for a starter. For mains we had a delicious fish curry, which was spectular in every way. It came with a tremendous mango chutney. Drinks were good and promptly served with a smile. All the servers were a delight-very well trained. The landlord took our food orders and he gave good information about the dishes and also recommendations. A few reviewers have put negative remarks on TA about him, but we thought he was really friendly and helpful. The atmosphere in the pub was buzzing and the prices are more than reasonable.

Went there with my elderly parents for dad's birthday lunch. Everyone had a great meal. May not be ideal if you have disability needs as no disabled toilet but staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely quiet lunchtime pub, very oldie worldy feel to it. Charming.

Really lovely date night..we turned up early and decided to have a drink and then when our table was ready we were asked if we wanted to come in but not able to order till our reservation which was perfectly fine. Our dog came with us and was allowed to sit on a chair by the window. Food was great and service excellent, we will definitely be coming back with our family. Thank you x

A group of us went out for lunch, good menu choice and the food when it came was well presented and enjoyable. We spent £90 a couple which is enough for a pub lunch but we felt fair value. What took the shine off was the £52 service charge added on. We had already spent £450 so it seemed unnecessary.

We visited the Fisherman’s rest for Sunday lunch and were not disappointed. One of the best roasts we’ve had for a while and very reasonable. The side cauliflower cheese i can also recommend. Services was friendly and speedy, atmosphere good and we sat by open doors looking out on the small but well kept garden/terrace. We will be back when we next visit the area and can definitely recommend.

Very nice beef roast. We had lunch in their outside garden, the atmosphere is cute and the pub is very well kept and clean. If you’re looking for a pub in the area would recommend this one! The staff was very friendly and welcoming although we didn’t book in advance 💫

Ate here after talking to someone in our B&B and was told they served good fish and seafood dishes we decided to give it a try. We booked a table just to be sure and as it was a nice evening decided to eat outside. The food was excellent we had salmon gravlax to start with seabass dauphinoise potato in a bisque and I had the seafood special. Service was good, water was constantly replenished without asking The man who served us I believe is the owner has a bit of a nonchalant demeanor but dont let that put you off Would definitely recommend if you like fish and sea food, we came to the New Forest to try a couple of restaurants should just have eaten here more often and saved a shed load of money

I couldn't praise this place enough,yes it's pricey,but worth every penny. The food was first rate. Waiters really attentive and knowledgeable. Well done places like this deserve to succeed.

The food was exceptional. All dishes were excellent. Fish cooked to perfection. Gorgeous baked crab. Great wine selection. Wine perfectly chilled. Lovely outside terrace and ambiance. Our experience was let down though by the service which was rather chaotic. We had four different people serving us, constantly hovering and asking if they could whisk each plate away when we hadn’t even finished. They all seemed stressed and annoyed. We were given a dinner booking at 6:30pm but were told we could not order until 7pm. We had to ask if we could at least order some bread. Different people kept coming out to ask us the same questions. The wine in wine bucket was plonked down but not poured. We had to ask for it to be poured (maybe they don’t normally pour, not sure). At the end of the meal I noticed they had forgotten to charge us for the wine. I had to go inside and wait for someone to come to the till. When I said they hadn’t charged me for the wine and they needed to add it to the bill, they didn’t say thank you for flagging it but just looked really annoyed and put out. Anyway, fabulous food and pub overall but the staff just need a bit better guidance!

Fantastic! As always! Dined here last year too so came back this holiday and it was just as excellent as last time. Seafood specials were stunning with baked crab. Couldn't recommend this pub enough. Staff lovely too. Already looking forward to coming back next year!

So impressed with this place. Excellent food. My father and I had skate which was well presented and tasted nice. Venison chilli was devoured by my daughter (she's the fussy one) and hubby had BBQ ribs which he really enjoyed. Portion size was good and all dishes were presented well. The staff were friendly and on the ball. This was our first time of visiting despite being locals and definitely won't be our last. Very satisfied customers.

If you want superb food in a casual, pub environment, then this is the place to go. As well as classic pub staples, they offer a fantastic selection of fish dishes on a specials menu. After searching for somewhere that did great food without the stuffy, restaurant environment, we stumbled upon this pub and we could not have been happier! Lovely food, friendly, casual service, great atmosphere and reasonable prices!

We were staying at nearby Passford House and told we must try this pub for food. So we arrived without making a reservation on a Thursday night which was a mistake. But luckily we were early and the publican/manager squeezed us in for an early meal with a one and half hour time slot which was fine and much appreciated - he could have just said no. Great atmosphere. Great menu. The seafood mariniere was very good (slight criticism - mussels a bit small but the sauce was excellent), similarly the crab bisque. This place is known for its seafood/fish so being contrary I had a venison chilli which was so good. It’s got limited parking so bear that in mind. This is a great pub, unpretentious and unstuffy, with great quality food. And the service from the young staff was excellent, If you are in the area this is well worth a visit,

Had an amazing dinner here with our dog, the calamari was fantastic. All the staff were really friendly and the garden was really well looked after.

Had an amazing dinner at Waterman’s Rest in Lymington! Started with a flavorful seafood cocktail and perfect salmon gravlax. The freshly cooked trout and same-day sourced skate wing were delicious, paired with a refreshing and good-value Prosecco. How can buying 2drinks and a pkt of crisps be £14.05 then the next round 2drinks be £15.20 exactly the same drinks as in the first round and no crisps Then to sit in garden and wait for it to be corrected as asked by bar staff to be corrected and they did not appear to do this so on the whole drinks expensive

We visited Fisherman 's rest last bank holiday and had an amazing meal.As we hadnt booked we were thrilled to be fed such a higj quality meal and shown so much hospitality.The fish was beautifully cooked

The roast was really really good! Quality ingredients cooked perfectly in a homely, classic pub environment.

The best roast dinner I have tasted in a long time, the beef was melt in the mouth and all the rest was very tasty. The sticky toffee pudding was to die for, too!!

Stumbled upon this fantastic pub by chance and am so pleased that I did. An absolute gem and exactly what I would want as a local should I live nearby (but sadly I do not). The two young persons behind the bar (whose names sadly escape me) were excellent as well as welcoming and friendly.

Second visit was just as good as the first. Fresh fish and lots of choice if a non fish eater. Recommend booking, but we have managed to get both times. Will return soon.

A cosy pub to stop for a drink on a long walk.

We want to thank all staff at the Fisherman’s Rest for accommodating us after our match. The pub was lovely inside had a real home feeling. The teas we had were good sized portions of vegetable curries. Would highly recommend this pub and would definitely love to come back on a regular basis.

We sat by the fire and had a welcoming drink before sitting down for a meal. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was fabulous- the cod special was exceptional. We would definitely visit again if we were in the area. A great find.

Amazing food in a warm friendly pub. Daily fish specials are fantastic, all freshly locally caught. Mediterranean fish stew, King tiger prawns, Megrim sole and cod loin rarebit were all delicious.

On holiday. Looked at reviews & unable to phone as no reception but decided to go to The Fisherman's Rest on Tuesday evening for a meal. Their website showed food served every day of the week. Bad decision. Went in & asked it was possible to have a table for 2. Told no it's Tuesday evening so no food. No apologies.

Another fabulous visit to this great pub. Came for lunch with friends and their dog. Fantastic selection of food from both the lunch and specials menu. All our food was piping hot and delicious. The spinach and courgette pakora starters were absolutely divine. The staff were really attentive and friendly. Thank you to all.

We were lucky to spend 18 months in Lymington and this was our favourite restaurant for seafood and drinks. They always had fish of the day but we would highly recommend to try sole. Just delicious. My favourite place to eat in Lymington. During high season I recommend to book a table.

Came here as a contingency following a disappointing experience elsewhere. Been here many times before. What a relief. Lovely log fire, lovely food, lovely ale, lovely service. Why didn't we just come here in the first place? Highly recommended.

This pub is a little gem. The landlady runs this pub/restaurant wonderfully, so friendly and attentive. The food is all homemade and rightly so they are very proud of what they serve. Dogs are welcome in the bar which has loads of tables so is more or less the same as the restaurant. It’s a bit out of the centre but definitely worth a visit.

This is an outstanding pub / restaurant. The food is excellent and the service is friendly and efficient. We live locally and go to the Fish about once a month and it's consistently excellent. I have been remiss in not writing a review before. All the food is great, and the local fish is a good option. However, the Steak and Ale Pie is my favourite. It is the best steak pie I've ever had - have it with mash and it's a meal on it's own.

Arrived very late (had told them we were delayed) for a booked table but the hosts very kindly kept the table for us even though they were very busy. Served our food quicky and looked after us very well. Food was good pub type...enjoyed the beef and ale pie. Well worth a visit if you're in Lymington.

We had an amazing meal today, salt and pepper squid to start, followed by Hake with a crab crum and a Cod loin with a cream and spinach sauce. I can’t fault the food. Lots of staff on hand to look after us, I would certainly recommend this place, be brave don’t go for the standard menu go for the daily fish menu.

We are locals and with local friends and thought a meal here suited the evening. It went okand knew the table time was up at 8.30 pm, we were not at that time yet when we were told in an fairly unpleasant way people were waiting so they want the table. There are ways to remind us time was running out although we knew anyway but this was harsh and demanding and we came out certainly not feeling valued as customers as we all thought staff were a little gruff throughout. A good tourist summer trade I presume so hope they don't need locals during the winter as we will not go there again.

A good pub with a nice atmosphere, we came for a drink one night and likes it so came back to eat the next night. There were 3 real ales to choose and a straight forward menu with a specials card too. The service is nice, efficient with a relaxed feel. The food was good with nice flavour and nice portion size. Price is about average and the decor is very pleasant with a lovely outdoor seating area with a lovely sheltered feeling. We would definitely return when we are in the area again so I would recommend you try it for yourself. Booking is probably recommended

Walked up from town quay ..took just over 20 minutes. Very warm welcome from friendly staff. Food was very good and the pub itself was very cosy with a good ambience. Pleased that we found this place

My wife’s steak pie was very good. My beef burger was rather tasteless and the skinny fries were awful. The young servers were friendly but the senior staff were too business oriented and not welcoming. Also impossible to find an up to date menu online.
