Bar & Grill At The Crown Manor House Hotel in New Forest

High quality restaurant in a beautiful hotel setting. Delicious food. Excellent service and good menu choices. We stayed at The Crown for the my birthday and enjoyed a special celebratory meal.

What a fantastic hotel, every staff member was superb in there job, and the hotel lift is unbelievable, thank you everyone for making our 2 night stay so enjoyable

This was a belated Mother's Day lunch and delightful as my son and I were the only occupants of the main dining room midweek. It took about 20 minutes from ordering to our 2 beefburgers arriving at the table, well cooked and tasty. Neither my son or I wanted a huge meal, but we couldn't finish the very chunky chips that were part of the order. However, my son managed to squeeze in a cheesecake for dessert and I had ice cream. The 2 waitresses were attentive and helpful and it was a lovely opportunity to catch up with my son. I haven't eaten here since 1991, when I was pregnant with his sister, I won't leave it another 33 years!

A nice hotel in the centre of Lyndhurst. The room was cosy but very hot. Unfortunately, the rooms at the front of the hotel get a lot of traffic noise. Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice, continental and cooked, which is basically help yourself to whatever you want. The staff are very friendly.

We stayed for the weekend and had a great time. The restaurant has a lovely ambience and the staff are attentive without being intrusive. The food was excellent with a great choice of seasonal veg fish dishes. Have recommended to friends!

The afternoon tea was fabulous on mother's day. The scones as the other reviewsnoted were so light. The service was good.

This was our second visit to the Hotel. We had a snug double which was fine for our 2 night stay. Room and bathroom were clean and well looked after. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The breakfast is very good with a large selection and the cooked breakfast was always hot. Make sure you book direct with the hotel for the best price.

Great afternoon tea, great service and great atmosphere - best scones we had so far in the New Forest and Southampton, the cream and jam were fantastic as well.

My husband went for dinner and also to check the hotel out for our daughter’s future wedding. However, we will not be returning again. I will probably get a reply to this review from the manager stating that my food was fresh that day but I can assure you that it definitely was not fresh because the feta cheese in the quinoa absolutely stank and was rancid. It smelled so foul that it almost made me sick. I ate my fish which was ‘acceptable’ but dry and pushed the quinoa & cheese aside. When I complained to the waitress her reply was”the chef said the cheese was fresh in this morning” and that was it, no apology, nothing. I then asked to see the manager and all he could offer was a mere 10% off the menu. I have only ever complained once before in a restaurant and straight away the manager offered to replace the food (which I accepted) or, refunded them price of the said meal. My husband’s dinner was a joke with extremely overcooked beef short ribs and a pathetic portion of tiny chopped up veg which looked like the type of frozen chopped veg that you buy from any high street supermarket. In my opinion, I find it hard to believe all the positive views on Tripadvisor are from genuine customers. We went across the road to ‘Renoufs’ and met a couple who were staying at The Crown & Manor House Hotel who told us that they had the exact same complaint about the food and ate out elsewhere for the past 3 nights of their trip. If the restaurant food and staff are as good as the reviews portray, why was there such a lack of customers on a Saturday night? I advise you to click on the negative reviews on Tripadvisor regarding the horrendous state of the rooms which tell a lot about this hotel. Avoid if you don’t want to waste your money on horrible overcooked, dried out and rank food!

Excellent hotel. Very picturesque. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and tidy a the bed was very comfortable. The food was very delicious for breakfast and dinner and they catered for my gluten free diet. We will definitely return when the weather is warmer. I would recommend this hotel to anyone as they cater for all.

We always enjoy going to The Crown for dinner and on this occasion it was a Saturday night. I had the steak and my partner ordered the beef hamburger. Both our meals were excellent, the service was prompt & professional. We ended with Irish coffees to complete a perfect dinner.

I spent the afternoon with two friends celebrating our summer birthdays with an afternoon tea. The setting was perfect and relaxing, the staff were friendly and polite, nothing too much trouble. They offered more tea half way through the service. The afternoon tea was perfect size, the sandwiches were lovely though would have liked something a little more special than egg (it was nice). The scones were very light and the smaller cakes very tasty, the addition of the fruit sweet in a small glass was perfect. We will be returning again.

Enjoyed a fantastic cream tea with some fizz here with my wife. Beautiful location. Even me with a big appetite could only just finish the spread of fresh sandwiches, scones and other sweet treats. Service was really good and friendly, managed to park just fine in the hotels own car park. Then a walk around Lyndhurst afterwords made us a perfect afternoon

Originally booked a weekend in March 2020 to celebrate my 70th but due to Covid it got delayed until now.Stayed in a superior room which was spacious and clean with a huge comfortable bed. Lovely bathroom with plenty of hot water, a powerful shower and thick white towels. Ate in the restaurant one evening where the food was good and the service was exemplary. The buffet breakfast was also of a good standard and served at a time to suit you.Just loved the historic building and lift and had a fabulous weekend.

Have reviewed the hotel before but never the restaurant for itself. One of Lyndhurst’s best offers yet so underrated imo.We eat here at least once per visit to the hotel and the food is just so good: the chef is one of the best the hotel has had and we are constantly spoiled for choice with the dinner menu, which emphasizes local produce with some imaginative twists- all delicious. Excellent vegan/veg options - so often such dishes are boring and unsatisfying, but not here. Fish is great and the meat selection fantastic. It is not cheap but if I compare to other New Forest venues charging £17 a main (some fur standard pub fare), I feel the Crown offers excellent value - and it has a lovely ambience to boot

Stayed here as part of my Wife's birthday celebrations. Food and drink was fab and service was brilliant from all of the staff. Stunning building and great location for access to the New Forest and local shops, pubs and restaurants all within a few minutes walk. Four poster room was lovely and just the right size. Although it is on the main road, you barely notice it. We Will definitely be back !!

Booked some weeks ago on an emailed offer. 3 x bed and breakfast and one dinner. I asked if it would be possible to have a twin room. It wasn’t till 2 days before we arrived I was sent an email saying that twin rooms cost extra and none were available. Why that wasn’t mentioned when they confirmed escapes me.The dinner on the first night was dreadful. The soup was tasteless as was the trout pate which was so processed it could have been anything. The monkfish tail was either old, frozen or overcooked probably all 3 it would have made a good bouncy ball. Have given 2 stars as the staff are lovely and it was free!!Breakfast is buffet and it was busy. If I haven’t got Covid it will be a miracle as only 10% of customers were wearing masks the rest touched and breathed over everything and I saw no one use the sanitizers.

Nice country hotel in a lovely village. Food is excellent. It was nice that the areas were peaceful without music playing which can be distracting. It’s on a busy road through the village but although on the front we couldn’t hear it. Stayed in a four poster room. The room was a little tired and overdue a decorate but we still had a lovely, relaxing weekend stay. The bathroom toiletries smell lovely !!

The ambiance was delightful, the staff were attentive, the food was wonderful. The only thing that was a little concerning was that a service charge was added to the bill, which I didn’t notice until I got home, on top of which I gave a £10 tip. So I ended up giving a tip of almost £20. This equated to 20% of the bill.

We have stayed in this hotel many times but never been to the restaurant. Whilst staying in a hotel nearby (cousins get booked overnight) we came for a meal. The food is amazing and as always staff are very pro and friendly. Only one thing let it down and that was the speed at which the food is served (seems to be a thing everywhere now) we arrived at 8 and we had finished at 9!!!!! No break between courses and it just felt so rushed. Please let people stay longer and have a break between courses so they can enjoy this wonderful place. We will be back but would order our courses one at a time.

Me and my partner visited after an exhausting cycle for a drink and it happened to be happy hour, we both chose different cocktails but found out they have to be the same cocktail, no problem, saved money and enjoyed our drinks in a fancy and comfortable lounge area, very nice!

Had a great two night stay, lovely hotel - would definitely go back- on the pricey side but well worth it - breakfast was delicious as was a dinner we had in the hotel. Well appointed in the town and plenty to do in immediate vicinity - will be returning.

Booked for eight of us for dinner on a Friday night. Exellent menu with a great choice of local produce. The rabbit starter was excellent and so was the burger. The service throughout was great, we had excellent banter/interaction with the staff.

Went on 1st September, excellent service and excellent food. Very busy evening but service was 1st class. Fish and chips to die for, the best crime brûlée ever.

We absolutely loved the waiting staff. They were super helpful and friendly. The food was at London prices, but unfortunately not to the standard one would expect for those prices. The highest priced main course - grilled veal steak at £23 - was chewy. The fish was slightly overcooked, too. The sides of chips and fresh green salad were perfect though. The wine list would have benefitted from some additions in the early 20s price range.The restaurant certainly has potential and the staff were absolutely adorable, but sadly it’s not quite yet value for money.

Great food and friendly service. But we were served a warm bottle of red wine - the waiter's explanation was that the wine cellar is 'humid'. We are likely to eat here again the next time we are in the area, but I won't accept another warm bottle of wine and recommend others to be on the alert. (The Chianti gradually came back down to room temperature.)

Had a wonderful meal here. The crab tien was very tasty. I had hake and husband had seafood linguine which were excellent. Friendly staff and the manager, Andrew was very personable. My only criticism is that the sizes of the amaretto and brandy were rather small especially as it is not cheap. However I would still highly recommend it to anyone.The hotel itself is a little old fashioned and our room on the 3rd floor was rather small but it was all we could get as the hotel was fully booked.

We had dinner here on our first and last evenings during our five night stay at the hotel. The service was friendly and efficient and the bar and grill has a very nice, relaxing ambience. The meals are good but I would class them as expensive - drinks and mains, a dessert and coffee will set you back over £100 with a large glass of I think NZ sav blc an eye watering £12. On the other hand, Lyndhurst doesn't appear to be blessed with restaurants of a similar quality.There is a nice Italian at the other end of the village and we had a lovely meal in the garden at the Waterloo Arms which is less than a 10 minute walk away.In summary this is a nice place to eat and I would willingly return.
