Hare and Hounds Pub in New Forest

The pub is really well situated in the New Forest, and the welcome was great. Very nice staff, and a great atmosphere. Food was quite good. The game pie was quite nice, but it wasn't obviously made with game as the meat content was minced. The chips are not homemade. Could really up the game with the food by some refinements. I wish ale in the south of England was served with the sparkler on the pump - but that's just personal preference

Lovely pub in New Forest, went on a Sunday for a roast. Really great food and all homemade, definitely will go back if in the area.

It's alright the staff didn't keep up on who was doing what table so we kept getting asked the same questions. Fodo was okay nothing special really

We had a wake there and the service was brilliant, especially as we took most of the pub over.. quietly efficient.

Stopped off by chance and weren’t disappointed. We had some great food and the staff were attentive. Dogs welcome too which is a must for us. We’ll remember this place when we are next down this way.

A favourite of our families which never fails to dissapoint. Stop there for Sunday roast before heading home from holiday. We both had the trio of roasts which were both well cooked, well presented and accompanied by all the trimmings. The veg was hot and fresh and the side orders of cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets were very tasty and complemented the roasts perfectly. The 2 kids meals, mac and cheese and kids roast beef were nicely cooked and filled my little ones up. The chocolate fudge cake and sticky toffee pudding are worth every calorie. The service is always warm, friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend anyone looking for a simple baguette to a full on meal.

When ever myself and my wife are in the new forest we eat here it's got great food at reasonable prices and great staff

The manager is very miserable try talk to him and all he did was put us down first two left because of his attitude but two of us stayed a bad choice as he was so rude we let everyone's know not to come here even the staff and customers and locals we spoke hate him think he is not good for the business as not repeat trade

Delicious meal in a delightful pub. Service seemed a little tense but they were v busy and deservedly so.

Very popular pub in the New Forest with a log fire. All the staff are very friendly and make you feel welcome, amazing home cooked food, especially the roast on a Sunday.

Good family atmosphere, staff and management welcoming and cheerful on a busy Mother's day Sunday. Our turkey roast was flavoursome, rich roast potatoes and well cooked seasonal vegetables. Dessert was as good, sticky toffee pudding and Berry cheesecake were very well made. Well priced, and the cask ales were very fresh . Will be back before our week is out.

Came in on a Sunday afternoon, service was great. Greeted warmly and shown to table, drinks order taken and came quickly. Only stayed for nibbles, pleasant food, again was quick to arrive. Will return for something more substantial. Very pleasant experience overall.

Excellent evening meals.The Admiral fish pie was one of the best I have ever eaten and my Wife’s Guinea fowl meal was also apparently delicious. The service and atmosphere were also both of a very high standard.

We have a few days holiday every year in Sway and love to eat at Hare & Hounds. Their food is fantastic and everyone is very helpful and friendly ☺️

Can’t fault this place. Been several times over the past year and each time the landlord and his staff were welcoming and very friendly. Food is excellent. Booking advised as busy. Really very good - well done!

Popped in for lunch, it was great, I had panaged pork, really good. Great beer too.

First visit to this pub ,went in for lunch with family definately glad I did the food was first class very satisfactory portions very very flavourful, will be going back soon it was well worth the 30 plus mile trip.

Our favourite place to go! Another super meal out with friends, great quality food, beautifully cooked and presented. Enjoyed the roaring fire and atmosphere. Can highly recommend pulled pork burger!!

Just had a delicious Christmas day lunch at the Hare and Hounds pub. The atmosphere was really friendly and homely. Would definitely recommend and would go again on Christmas day x

A couple.of weeks ago, we popped in for a pint or two, and there were bottles of Festive Hare & Hounds Gin for sale. Fabulous Xmas presents, so bought a couple. Yesterday the guest ale was Christmas Cracker, and yes, it was a Cracker of a bitter!

Great sunday lunch, and decent beer. Could not fault it.

I went to ringwood to eat and I didn't enjoy it. Came here and felt much more comfortable.

Great country pub and uber dog friendly. The food was really good pub grub and in a very comfortable setting. The service was a bit strange - it felt like you had to go to the bar to get served a lot of the time but the staff were very friendly when they did appear!

Nice food and friendly service, good selection of drinks. It is good to go to a pub and actually want several of the items on the menu, there's is also a specials board which changes daily. The portions sizes are good.

This establishment has gone down hill. Very rude person in charge with no customer service training. Also I was not delivered food described on the menu. Bad signage on the ladies toilet with some random unlabelled bottles in there. On a positive note the waiting staff were very pleasant just a shame about manager and food. Perhaps it’s been taken over as used to be so nice. We won’t be going back. Lots of nicer pubs near.

A lovely, extremely dog friendly pub with a great menu of pub classics. We had a sausage baguette and a pulled pork baguette. Both were yummy and really reasonably priced, and the waiter bought treats over for our pooch!

Super meal and service was spot on . The quality of food is excellent here, the welcome and service was cheerful , timely and didn’t intrude , and the value for money is amazing . Busy on a Thursday eve with locals which is good to see. Lovely atmosphere. Recommend the Admirals Pie !

Lovely pub that's just outside the New Forest. Lovely atmosphere, helpful staff and quick service. We had a table booked for 11 of us so they do take bookings. The decor is quirky but all associated with the countryside, horses, beer/pub drinks, hares and hounds. Staff were friendly, polite and had a sense of humour - which is always a good thing. They got all 11 meals out at the same time within about 20-25 minutes of ordering (we ordered 9 different dishes!) it was impressive. Food is more expensive than I'd expect of a pub (£13.95-15.95 for most mains) but portions were extremely generous and food quality was great. They have specials each day which were on a board.

Very tasty Admiral Pie and the pie of the day, Steak and Stilton, was apparently excellent also. Very friendly staff.

We didn't book but managed to get a table. Service was good. The pie was perfect, the pastry was buttery and generously filled. Husband's gammon and chips were really good too. Highly recommended.

This pub is worth making the trip to get a meal here. All the food is homemade and amazing. All the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.

This was our first visit, even though we live quite nearby. I’m sure we’ll be visiting again. It’s clearly very popular, it was pretty busy early on Thursday lunchtime. But they quickly found a table for us (with our wet dog). Very impressed with prompt and friendly table service, a choice of good ales, and tasty scampi & chips.

Lovey Pub 🍻 Great Food, lovely staff and a nice warm atmosphere. We had our 2 dogs with us and felt very welcome, water bowls provided and no fuss. 10/10 👍 I recommend anything they have created themselves from the menu, everyone at our table was very impressed. I had the Hare and Hounds chicken and mushroom and it was divine 😋

All you would expect, good choices on the menu. Worth a visit, may need to book at busy times.

Katsu burger was a bit overcooked. Apart from that, food was good. Decent selection, idel for family meal

Both of us had Turkey Schnitzel with salad, chips and coleslaw. It was a massive, delicious plateful. Everything was presented beautifully and even the chips were crisp and tasted sooo good. The staff were welcoming and friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed both our visit and the food.

An excellent lunch. An interesting menu with food that was well prepared and presented. Portions are generous. The Turkey Schnitzel daily special was excellent. Friendly staff and reasonable prices. We'll be back.

What a wonderful little gem we found on a day out in the new forest. It was an impromptu day out we had we had been to lots of different places on our day and we were tired and hungry, it hadn't crossed my mind we should of booked for our evening meal and everywhere we tried were full so we decided to sit and call a few pubs before going for a chippy supper, by chance google gave us the number for this one, they were so friendly on the phone they managed to sort a table for us. When we pulled up and parked in the ample car park we could see it looked very much a locals pub so in we went, we were greeted at the door by a lovely lady who showed us to our table. The menu u had a lovely choice of food and a good veggie choice, nothing was to much trouble as I wanted different potatoes. The food looked and tastes home cooked and a good straight from the oven, puddings again a good choice and homemade. In the pubs dogs are also very welcome with a range of dog beds to use, hanging up were glasses you could borrow if you have forgotten yours, news to read. If your in the area give it a try you want regret it.

Lovely old fashioned pub, dogs allowed too. Took a while for someone to take our food order, we'll worth the wait. I had a gorgeous fish pie very tasty with lots of cheese on top. My husband had gammon, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Delicious, traditional pub food and cosy, warm atmosphere. Hearty flavourful meals that are very welcome after long walks in the New Forest! Highly recommended the fish & chips, lasagne, whitebait, Hare&Hounds special chicken, and their pies of the day.

Situated on the side of a hill leading to the open forest area. Lovely old atmosphere, open fire places, little inglenooks for cozy sitting, fine real ales, good food, kids love the play area at the back but that's enough from me...try it out and you leave a comment. Ps ask for their book of comments from their past visitors. you might like to add a comment there as well.

Wonderful place with a very welcoming staff. We read reviews before we came and were not disappointed. We had fish and chips (which was recommended on reviews) and chicken Hair and Hounds Style. Everything was delicious! Humorous plaques made our day after driving today to Sway from Midlands through torrential rain.

It was evident on entering the premises that this is a very busy and popular pub in the heart of the new forest. We stopped by on our drive to find somewhere serving good homecooked meals Good choice on menu Service was OK, got the feeling staff were a little shattered from a long busy service!! My meal was much nicer than expected and well presented My partner had vegan pie and chips which was very average Nice pub garden to sit in All in all pleasant visit x

Lunch after a nice walk in the forest,had three dogs with us and we were made to feel very welcome. Wasn't busy as we arrived about 3pm. Lovely pub food, properly hot.
