Iam local and have used this pub many times but it's started to lose consistency or gain it in a bad way. Fish Pie lacking fish the liver and bacon was low quality I think the bacon had been cooked a few days before and reheated the bacon did not taste fresh. The vegetables are bland and boiled to death and have no seasoning. The cutlery is now so blunt a piece of paper looks sharp. The menu has not changed in 2 years. Reinvestment is much needed.

Excellent in every way. Well worth the hour and a half drive to get there. Hope to return again soon.

Good food, enjoyed the look of an open fire. Waitress could learn how to smile occasionally. We were ushered into the annex on a cold wet day, only one radiator not so good for our baby. We previously reserved a table and requested a child seat. Had to request it again when we arrived hence service wasn’t brilliant, but we enjoyed the food. If your going on a Weekend it gets busy so advise you make early booking.

This is a nice cosy pub. There is a fantastic range of drinks on offer and plenty of dining area which is very nicely furnished. The food is excellent, and the service is first class. This pub is dog friendly and there is a children's play area outside. I did see there is also plenty of outdoor seating for that nice summers' day drink. Get along and find out. Recommended

We came here in June last year and it was beautiful amazing food then went again in August which was also amazing. We came last week and was really disappointed the food was nothing like the last time waitress was miserable like she didn’t want to be there, wouldn’t return in a hurry.

Could be a tale of 2 seasons. In the summer, packed out with holiday makers, bikers, hikers & children (children's outdoor play area & lots of outdoor seating). In the winter, quieter cosier (real fire), with locals, dog walkers, with generally much quicker service & more personal attention. Overall food very good, with large menu, and reasonable prices for the area. Badger Beer + guest beer usually on tap (Not a fan of H&W, but at least not Greene King!)

Could not fault the ales or the service.

Service as usual was great. However my last two visits to the Hare & Hounds the food is definitely not as good as it used to be.

Lack of atmosphere, non of the food is made from scratch it’s all pre cooked/made. Staff aren’t overly friendly or welcoming. It’s also extremely cold inside

We have been here a number of times over many years, this is the first time we didn't enjoy our food. The pulled pork burger was burnt, and the gravy with the sausages and mash was terrible. Think it was just a blip in the kitchen. We will return as the beer is good and the staff are excellent. Thank you to the manager for the generous discount.

We were out and about around the New Forest and looking for somewhere to get in the warmth and came across the H & H. We weren't planning on eating but once we saw the menu we thought, why not. The pie of the day was lovely along with a local cider. The rest of the group were impressed to. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating. They gigged things around to give us a table. Now that we have found it we will definitely be revisiting.

Spent a fab time at the Hare and Hounds last night with my partner and his dad enjoying the excellent beer and food in this pub. From the moment I called to book a table to walking through the door our service was exceptional, the welcome was genuine and atmosphere fun. Well done to you all, will definitely be back .

We’ve had better school dinners! 3 out of 4 on our table found the food over-salted, soggy & mostly inedible, so mostly left on the plates. The 4th was described as, “average”. Out of the rest of our group of 12, there were hardly any clear plates at the end. This time last year the food was good. This year was very disappointing. Staff friendly & helpful though, so sort out the chef(s) and get back good food.

Was my local dog friendly pub and still visit twice a year. Evening supper and drink x3 people, mid week. Consistently good food and atmosphere. Service is good but they may struggle to serve food in good time, apparently when they are busy as was pointed out by notices pinned up around the pub!! Bit off putting....

After a drive thru the New Forest we thought we’d try a local pub for some lunch . On arrival the car park was busy so didn’t think we’d get lucky but we were able to grab a table . Smiling face from the lady who took our order & dealt with us from start to finish and checked with the kitchen for my allergy with my chosen meal . Food was lovely & piping hot and the menu was great .. lots to suit everyone. Thank you for a lovely lunch .

Great pub for a Sunday Roast, happily accommodated 16 of us, including babies. Very happy with the service, really nice interior and lighting! The food was lovely as well, would definitely recommend.

When we visit the New Forest this is always one of our 'go to' places to eat & drink! Have been coming here for a few years now, food is always excellent. The real ale choice is good, although I'm not a lover of Hall & Woodhouse beers, there is usually a couple of ales on from local breweries, which I always go for. The staff are excellent, very pleasant & accommodating. Never had a bad experience here & would recommend it to others. Booking is advised especially for Sunday Lunch time.

Another little gem from years ago, on the edge of New Forest heathland. The original bar has been stretched and now allows for a lot more custom. Nice selection of beers and a good menu. Popular place for meals. Plenty of seating inside and outside. Garden and play area to the rear. Tables out the front. Large car park and friendly staff.

We’ve spent a week in Sway in a holiday home and have eaten in the Hare and Hounds 3 times. Sunday lunch was amazing, very generous portions, huge yorkie pud, good selection of veg. All our meals have been piping hot, great value for money, would highly recommend. We tried the chilli, chicken wrapped in bacon, pie of the day and the roast, all were excellent. Dry dog friendly, even provide blankets and beds!

A delightful country pub in the heart of the New Forest. Came here for my birthday on the spur of the moment. I highly recommend reserving a table as it was extremely busy when we visited on a Tuesday evening. The food was first class and very good value for money with generous portions. A wide menu selection which would cater for even the fussiest eater. Also a wide vegetarian selection. Very friendly and helpful staff that made us feel very welcome.

What a great pub and the food was amazing with a huge selection on the menu, all food freshly prepared and local produce used. Reasonably priced and well worth it, service very good even at busy times.

Really nice pub, great service and generous portions. A small selection of cask ales alongside the usual popular options. Dropped in for lunch as I was passing and would definitely come back. Apparently gets *busy* of an evening, booking recommended!

Our lunchtime meal was delicious. Liver and bacon for me and the other half had pie. He only likes shortcrust pastry, so he was happy.

Lovely family friendly pub. Food was fresh and came quickly. The ham, egg and chips was especially good. The kids nuggets were large pieces of chicken breast which the kids loved. Service very good. Hope to be back soon!

Had a really good mid week lunch at the Hare and Hounds, good selection of beers, friendly service, great pub food - our group particularly enjoyed the homemade chicken and leek pie, and admirals fish pie. Outside is a nice beer garden

Group of 10 plus 2 dogs. The food was fantastic all came out together. The staff were great friendly and had a laugh with us. Lovely clean garden with a great play area for the children. Back to the food, there wasn't a single fault with any of it. The portion sizes were fantastic back to what pub food used to be like. The quality of the food was great 100% recommended this pub for a great family meal and hoping to make it back again while we're in the area.

Starter came up with main course at the same time. Not good. So sent it back. Main course, pie of the day. Came with chips & peas. Nice but not enough on the plate. So stopped of and got a chicken kebab on the way home.

We turned up on weekend was full up but told we could eat outside they did have undercover . Outside full of pretty flowers and benches . We happened to come on a car rally day as lots old vintage cars in carpark considering was packed food came quickly and was hot and very tasty .I had macaroni cheese full of flavour and others friends had 3 roast there food was tasty too. Only reason gave 4 stars as was bit hard get to toilet with the seating arrangements inside otherwise would of been 5

Lovely food in picturesque setting

Friendly atmosphere, great service and selection of beers and food with seasonal specials. Nice family area outside for the summer, real fire in the winter and ample parking. We’ve been coming here for years and always have a good meal and feel welcomed by the staff. It’s not a sports bar, no loud music, so a great place to meet with people or go as a family and have a good chat.

I decide write this bad comment today because is the 3nd time in last 6 months i feel the good service gone! I’m a regular client since 4years ago and last 3 times been so bad and always a try understand people have bad days for try understand the yah that lady treat us but today again she been so rude and miserable and I decide this time not eat and go away and I’m not looking to back anymore .. she really don’t care about the customer always with a rude attitude and even if we have booking or not her attitude looks like she don’t like see a full house … i understand is busy and stressful but end the end of the day is the customers paying her bills !!! I don’t know her name but is the one blonde and blue eyes.. anyway the restaurant is amazing the place is lovely that’s why we drive all way from Poole to have great time at this place and recommend all time to our friends and take our family there when come to visit us in England .. but look is like that is not will happen anymore unfortunately.. that lady ruins the business and is so sad because we love that restaurant!

The Hare & Hounds is our favourite pub when we holiday in Sway. We visited last week a couple of times and, as usual, they didn't disappoint. Lovely flavoursome menu; we had Sunday roast and on another day fish & chips and curry. A lovely dog friendly pub.

My wife had the steak with stilton sauce & I, the cheese & bacon burger. Both were very nice. Only criticisms would be that the sauce was on the runny side & it would've been lovely to have had rosemary fries/chips. I realise it's subjective, but I feel too he's small changes would certainly elevate the meals. Lovely service by Julia. Certainly recommend eating here 😊

Great place for food and drink. Nice outside area with some platy equipment for kids, though the play equipment is round the side with no nearby tables so don't hope to keep an eye on your kids whilst you have a drink. Great food but unchanging menu so gets a bit old if you frequent it often.

Really good evening at the Hare and Hounds - comprehensive menu, reasonable prices friendly service - one of our party had allergies and his questions were answered without fuss. Even better if - perhaps consider some subdued lighting to soften the atmosphere - but yes a great offering and well worth the visit.

The pub is really well situated in the New Forest, and the welcome was great. Very nice staff, and a great atmosphere. Food was quite good. The game pie was quite nice, but it wasn't obviously made with game as the meat content was minced. The chips are not homemade. Could really up the game with the food by some refinements. I wish ale in the south of England was served with the sparkler on the pump - but that's just personal preference

Lovely pub in New Forest, went on a Sunday for a roast. Really great food and all homemade, definitely will go back if in the area.

It's alright the staff didn't keep up on who was doing what table so we kept getting asked the same questions. Fodo was okay nothing special really

Stopped off by chance and weren’t disappointed. We had some great food and the staff were attentive. Dogs welcome too which is a must for us. We’ll remember this place when we are next down this way.

A favourite of our families which never fails to dissapoint. Stop there for Sunday roast before heading home from holiday. We both had the trio of roasts which were both well cooked, well presented and accompanied by all the trimmings. The veg was hot and fresh and the side orders of cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets were very tasty and complemented the roasts perfectly. The 2 kids meals, mac and cheese and kids roast beef were nicely cooked and filled my little ones up. The chocolate fudge cake and sticky toffee pudding are worth every calorie. The service is always warm, friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend anyone looking for a simple baguette to a full on meal.

The manager is very miserable try talk to him and all he did was put us down first two left because of his attitude but two of us stayed a bad choice as he was so rude we let everyone's know not to come here even the staff and customers and locals we spoke hate him think he is not good for the business as not repeat trade
