Good pub food - choice of portion size on many of the menu choices which works well for those wanting a smaller option. Well cooked & tasty. Friendly and efficient staff.

Admittedly this is a local pub but a must for the best food around. Advised to book as this popular pub is a great forest hub. Quiz night is on a Sunday.

Brilliant food at a reasonable price, staff were excellent, we had a little wait for our food but it was well worth the wait, and they were really busy.

The best pub food iv ever eaten, the service was lovely nothing was too much trouble. There were 4 of us, and not one complaint just complements. Will definitely return.

My wife & I have been for a meal here a many times over the past ten years. This latest visit which was the first in a while was decidedly poor. The pub is still nice but has not but looks a bit tired. The staff as usual are great & friendly as are the locals. The pub always has been dog friendly. The food, in this case, the bacon cheese burgers were bang average. Dry non juicy low flavour burger, a small amount of tasteless cheese & too much undercooked back bacon with fat on the rind. The fries were thin crispy & potato lacking. Hardly any salad on the side too. The burger here used to be much better but we will not be re-visiting even though the value & drinks are good.

Every time we go it's the same. Perfect. Well done... Even after helping a fellow patron when they needed Medical assistance. The Hare and Hounds certainly leaves a lasting memory. See you soon

What a wonderful pub, we called in for Sunday lunch and it was fantastic the 3 meat lunch was to die for plus all the timings, we will be going back. Great food good prices and value for money, thank you.

My wife and I visit the New Forest as much as we can, we love it. We have been coming to this pub for a few years now and have to say it's always excellent. On our last visit we had a turkey roast dinner and I can honestly say it was the best roast dinner we have ever had (excluding the ones we make at home lol) Service is excellent and very friendly, the location is in one of the prettiest villages in the middle of the heath land. Well reccomend and can't wait to see you guys again.

Visited for Saturday lunch with family of 6 (plus the dog). The food was outstanding, The Game Pie, Chicken and Ham Pie, Hunters Chicken and Lasagne were all top draw and the a lovely experience. This is a regular for my Parents and close family and I can see why. Thoroughly recommended and a shining gem of a restaurant in the middle of the forest where you can walk off the amazing food before venturing home.

When we visit the New Forest this is always one of our 'go to' places to eat & drink! Have been coming here for a few years now, food is always excellent. The real ale choice is good, although I'm not a lover of Hall & Woodhouse beers, there is usually a couple of ales on from local breweries, which I always go for. The staff are excellent, very pleasant & accommodating. Never had a bad experience here & would recommend it to others. Booking is advised especially for Sunday Lunch time.

Another little gem from years ago, on the edge of New Forest heathland. The original bar has been stretched and now allows for a lot more custom. Nice selection of beers and a good menu. Popular place for meals. Plenty of seating inside and outside. Garden and play area to the rear. Tables out the front. Large car park and friendly staff.

We’ve spent a week in Sway in a holiday home and have eaten in the Hare and Hounds 3 times. Sunday lunch was amazing, very generous portions, huge yorkie pud, good selection of veg. All our meals have been piping hot, great value for money, would highly recommend. We tried the chilli, chicken wrapped in bacon, pie of the day and the roast, all were excellent. Dry dog friendly, even provide blankets and beds!

A delightful country pub in the heart of the New Forest. Came here for my birthday on the spur of the moment. I highly recommend reserving a table as it was extremely busy when we visited on a Tuesday evening. The food was first class and very good value for money with generous portions. A wide menu selection which would cater for even the fussiest eater. Also a wide vegetarian selection. Very friendly and helpful staff that made us feel very welcome.

What a great pub and the food was amazing with a huge selection on the menu, all food freshly prepared and local produce used. Reasonably priced and well worth it, service very good even at busy times.

Really nice pub, great service and generous portions. A small selection of cask ales alongside the usual popular options. Dropped in for lunch as I was passing and would definitely come back. Apparently gets *busy* of an evening, booking recommended!

Fantastic Sunday lunch, very accommodating, even the furry child was catered for. Would definitely recommend. We stayed on in the beer garden after food, lovely place.

Our lunchtime meal was delicious. Liver and bacon for me and the other half had pie. He only likes shortcrust pastry, so he was happy.

Lovely family friendly pub. Food was fresh and came quickly. The ham, egg and chips was especially good. The kids nuggets were large pieces of chicken breast which the kids loved. Service very good. Hope to be back soon!

Had a really good mid week lunch at the Hare and Hounds, good selection of beers, friendly service, great pub food - our group particularly enjoyed the homemade chicken and leek pie, and admirals fish pie. Outside is a nice beer garden

Group of 10 plus 2 dogs. The food was fantastic all came out together. The staff were great friendly and had a laugh with us. Lovely clean garden with a great play area for the children. Back to the food, there wasn't a single fault with any of it. The portion sizes were fantastic back to what pub food used to be like. The quality of the food was great 100% recommended this pub for a great family meal and hoping to make it back again while we're in the area.

Starter came up with main course at the same time. Not good. So sent it back. Main course, pie of the day. Came with chips & peas. Nice but not enough on the plate. So stopped of and got a chicken kebab on the way home.

We turned up on weekend was full up but told we could eat outside they did have undercover . Outside full of pretty flowers and benches . We happened to come on a car rally day as lots old vintage cars in carpark considering was packed food came quickly and was hot and very tasty .I had macaroni cheese full of flavour and others friends had 3 roast there food was tasty too. Only reason gave 4 stars as was bit hard get to toilet with the seating arrangements inside otherwise would of been 5

Lovely food in picturesque setting

Friendly atmosphere, great service and selection of beers and food with seasonal specials. Nice family area outside for the summer, real fire in the winter and ample parking. We’ve been coming here for years and always have a good meal and feel welcomed by the staff. It’s not a sports bar, no loud music, so a great place to meet with people or go as a family and have a good chat.

I decide write this bad comment today because is the 3nd time in last 6 months i feel the good service gone! I’m a regular client since 4years ago and last 3 times been so bad and always a try understand people have bad days for try understand the yah that lady treat us but today again she been so rude and miserable and I decide this time not eat and go away and I’m not looking to back anymore .. she really don’t care about the customer always with a rude attitude and even if we have booking or not her attitude looks like she don’t like see a full house … i understand is busy and stressful but end the end of the day is the customers paying her bills !!! I don’t know her name but is the one blonde and blue eyes.. anyway the restaurant is amazing the place is lovely that’s why we drive all way from Poole to have great time at this place and recommend all time to our friends and take our family there when come to visit us in England .. but look is like that is not will happen anymore unfortunately.. that lady ruins the business and is so sad because we love that restaurant!

The Hare & Hounds is our favourite pub when we holiday in Sway. We visited last week a couple of times and, as usual, they didn't disappoint. Lovely flavoursome menu; we had Sunday roast and on another day fish & chips and curry. A lovely dog friendly pub.

Excellent pub with friendly, helpful staff. Had 2 dinners here & both were really great, tasty, well presented & large portions. Good, varied choices on menu & good value. Service was prompt & efficient. Definitely recommend & would book in advance as pub was quite busy on both our visits.

My wife had the steak with stilton sauce & I, the cheese & bacon burger. Both were very nice. Only criticisms would be that the sauce was on the runny side & it would've been lovely to have had rosemary fries/chips. I realise it's subjective, but I feel too he's small changes would certainly elevate the meals. Lovely service by Julia. Certainly recommend eating here 😊

Great place for food and drink. Nice outside area with some platy equipment for kids, though the play equipment is round the side with no nearby tables so don't hope to keep an eye on your kids whilst you have a drink. Great food but unchanging menu so gets a bit old if you frequent it often.

Really good evening at the Hare and Hounds - comprehensive menu, reasonable prices friendly service - one of our party had allergies and his questions were answered without fuss. Even better if - perhaps consider some subdued lighting to soften the atmosphere - but yes a great offering and well worth the visit.

The pub is really well situated in the New Forest, and the welcome was great. Very nice staff, and a great atmosphere. Food was quite good. The game pie was quite nice, but it wasn't obviously made with game as the meat content was minced. The chips are not homemade. Could really up the game with the food by some refinements. I wish ale in the south of England was served with the sparkler on the pump - but that's just personal preference

Lovely pub in New Forest, went on a Sunday for a roast. Really great food and all homemade, definitely will go back if in the area.

It's alright the staff didn't keep up on who was doing what table so we kept getting asked the same questions. Fodo was okay nothing special really

We had a wake there and the service was brilliant, especially as we took most of the pub over.. quietly efficient.

Stopped off by chance and weren’t disappointed. We had some great food and the staff were attentive. Dogs welcome too which is a must for us. We’ll remember this place when we are next down this way.

A favourite of our families which never fails to dissapoint. Stop there for Sunday roast before heading home from holiday. We both had the trio of roasts which were both well cooked, well presented and accompanied by all the trimmings. The veg was hot and fresh and the side orders of cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets were very tasty and complemented the roasts perfectly. The 2 kids meals, mac and cheese and kids roast beef were nicely cooked and filled my little ones up. The chocolate fudge cake and sticky toffee pudding are worth every calorie. The service is always warm, friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend anyone looking for a simple baguette to a full on meal.

The manager is very miserable try talk to him and all he did was put us down first two left because of his attitude but two of us stayed a bad choice as he was so rude we let everyone's know not to come here even the staff and customers and locals we spoke hate him think he is not good for the business as not repeat trade

Very popular pub in the New Forest with a log fire. All the staff are very friendly and make you feel welcome, amazing home cooked food, especially the roast on a Sunday.

Delicious meal in a delightful pub. Service seemed a little tense but they were v busy and deservedly so.

Good family atmosphere, staff and management welcoming and cheerful on a busy Mother's day Sunday. Our turkey roast was flavoursome, rich roast potatoes and well cooked seasonal vegetables. Dessert was as good, sticky toffee pudding and Berry cheesecake were very well made. Well priced, and the cask ales were very fresh . Will be back before our week is out.

Came in on a Sunday afternoon, service was great. Greeted warmly and shown to table, drinks order taken and came quickly. Only stayed for nibbles, pleasant food, again was quick to arrive. Will return for something more substantial. Very pleasant experience overall.

Excellent evening meals.The Admiral fish pie was one of the best I have ever eaten and my Wife’s Guinea fowl meal was also apparently delicious. The service and atmosphere were also both of a very high standard.

First visit to this pub ,went in for lunch with family definately glad I did the food was first class very satisfactory portions very very flavourful, will be going back soon it was well worth the 30 plus mile trip.

Our favourite place to go! Another super meal out with friends, great quality food, beautifully cooked and presented. Enjoyed the roaring fire and atmosphere. Can highly recommend pulled pork burger!!

A couple.of weeks ago, we popped in for a pint or two, and there were bottles of Festive Hare & Hounds Gin for sale. Fabulous Xmas presents, so bought a couple. Yesterday the guest ale was Christmas Cracker, and yes, it was a Cracker of a bitter!

Great country pub and uber dog friendly. The food was really good pub grub and in a very comfortable setting. The service was a bit strange - it felt like you had to go to the bar to get served a lot of the time but the staff were very friendly when they did appear!

Nice food and friendly service, good selection of drinks. It is good to go to a pub and actually want several of the items on the menu, there's is also a specials board which changes daily. The portions sizes are good.

This establishment has gone down hill. Very rude person in charge with no customer service training. Also I was not delivered food described on the menu. Bad signage on the ladies toilet with some random unlabelled bottles in there. On a positive note the waiting staff were very pleasant just a shame about manager and food. Perhaps it’s been taken over as used to be so nice. We won’t be going back. Lots of nicer pubs near.
