Stag Hotel in New Forest

Great service, amazing food, exceptional publicans, always provides great entertainment and all this whilst being at reasonable prices! Couldn’t ask for a better pub! Having lived in the area now for almost 2 years I’m pleased to have this as my local. Steve and Maria do so much for the community and my child is always asking if she can go and see them (much to my amusement).

A very pleasant experience, the staff were attentive and friendly, the drinks and food arrived quickly. Everyone enjoyed their food and the portions sizes were impressive. I had rib eye steak, and I have to say it's the best steak I have ever eaten!

Lovely food. A little bit different. Service was variable. One server wasn’t particularly friendly. Food really well cooked.

Stayed in Lyndhurst for a couple of days for my birthday. We ate at the Stag the food was absolutely amazing. We had the tempura prawns which are to die for.y husband had the belly pork and I had the chicken burger. Both were absolutely delicious. My husband had the sticky toffee pudding also delicious. Staff are lovely, friendly and proactive. Great atmosphere. We will definitely be returning to eat here when in Lyndhurst again.

We've visited here 5 days out of our 7 night stay in Lyndhurst, and by far, it's the most friendliest, welcoming pub that we've visited. All the staff are so happy and welcoming, and the landlady is so nice. Tonight, our last night, we managed to get a table to eat here. Wow! The food is top restaurant quality, and the portion sizes are huge! Highly recommended this establishment and can't wait to return!

A fantastic dog friendly pub that does great food. The sandwiches we had were delicious and it was lovely to get a small cup of tomato soup included. It was reasonably priced for the quality of the food and we will definitely return next time we are in Lyndhurst

The most amazing pie and I ordered extre Carrotts and peas , so good were the portions I offered the ladies opposite the rest.and they accepted, the staff member Cashan was lovely and very helpful, amazing smile too , the guy behind the bar was fantastic too, I'll be back again

Lovely dog friendly pub with great service, good food and excellent atmosphere. We visited on a Monday evening and even then it was busy enough to feel cosy.

Highly recommended. Fantastic and interesting food (I had sea bass served with a delicious risotto and beautifully presented greens). Lovely and attentive service ; unlike other venues I have experienced recently the team were happy to accommodate my covid phobia by seating me away from other people and next to the door. A great lunchtime atmosphere. Excellent in every way.

We had a 3 night stay at the Stag. Big room, comfortable bed, good bathroom. The only negative was the lack of a second chair. A small stool is not adequate and most people don't want to sit on the bed or floor.

Came here on a hot summers day for a pint and pub lunch. Really nice and spacious beer garden, and located in a lovely Hampshire village. For the food I got a steak and caramelised onion sandwich, with fries, a side salad, and a small mug of tomato soup. With regards to the sandwich, the bread baguette was really crispy but not the crisp kind that cuts your mouth, but had a nice crunch to it whilst still being soft inside. For mee, personally the steak inside was cooked a little too much, as I prefer medium-rare, and with it being cooked more well done it was a little too chewy for me. The caramelised onions were given generously and gave a really nice flavour to the sandwich. The fries on the side were perfectly crisp and I loved the little basket they came in, and the side salad was crisp with a nice dressing, and definitely could have had more. The mug of soup was definitely very random, but worked really well actually, and dipping the fries in it was 10/10! Service was good and price was standard for a village pub. I was one of a party of 4 that recently visited Lyndhurst for the afternoon for a local event and was recommended to eat at The Stag. I am so glad they did!! Standing proud welcoming you into the charming High Street, The Stag delivers everything you could want from a visit to a Country Pub, authenticity, great food (we had the beef Bourguignon- yum yum yum) and staff that truly cared that we had a nice time. Megan was really helpful and friendly talking us through the options, and also had some great tips of where to visit in The New Forest. You can tell that the Stag team and the pub are an important part of this area, and whether you’re a holiday maker or a local you will want to return. (So fantastically dog friendly too!!)

Great staff, great food, great selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages… I think what stands out for this place is how much they do for the local community and visitors / tourists alike… always putting on great entertainment for all the family and the facilities are fantastic. Lots of TV’s both in and outside yet plenty of space to just relax without being near one. Very very lucky to have this on our doorstep…

Spontaneously decided to dine at The Stag for Sunday lunch. Were greeted by the lovely Amy who despite appearing to be under some pressure ( we weren’t aware that they had had some staff unable to work for different reasons today ) …… The dining room was a generous space & well presented…. Our drinks arrived swiftly, the menu was extensive & our chosen roast beef was a generous size & very well cooked….. Visited the Stag pub and hotel this weekend (August 2020) We visit every year normally in March, but due to Covid 19 lockdown we was unable too. Pub had been decorated and looks absolutely fabulous, lovely warm and inviting. Food and staff as always were fantastic. All Covid 19 restrictions followed. Would highly recommend a visit and definitely recommend one of there many fabulous meals on there menu.

Stopped here for a late lunch and sat in the rear garden as we had a dog with us. Although very quiet, took over 20 minutes for someone to come and take a drink order. Asked for the food menu at the same time. When the drinks arrived, they forgot to bring out the food menu so another waitress had to bring them over. After waiting another 30 minutes we still had no one return to the table to take our food order so we decided to leave. When we went to the bar to pay for the drinks, all the staff were stood around talking and we paid £6.40 for 2 soft drinks which was massively overpriced. Would not recommend this place.

We stopped here for a pub lunch mostly because it had a large garden. The service was slow, one fairly young waitress seemed to be doing everything and subsequently got our order wrong. It was eventually corrected and the food was ok but there was dressing on the salad which we had asked there not to be. One family turned up who obviously knew the people that worked in the pub and there was a lot of distraction from lots of pub workers who seemed to then appear to chat and stand around!

Decided to have Sunday Dinner in the Stag. Told it was a 20-25 minute wait for food. After an hour still no food, then after 1h 20m a luke warm Roast appeared, the vegetables barely cooked, the meat on one meal was tolerable, the 2nd meal was more fat than meat, obviously a cheap piece of beef. Roast Potatoes cooked to perfection. An appalling meal, certainly won’t be back.

Cheesy garlic bread was OK, not sure what the dusting of red stuff was on it though - most off-putting. Service was slow, especially when I ordered at 4pm and nobody else was eating anything. I wasn't expecting to wait 30 minutes just for garlic bread!Not a very good menu. Odd the items on the Christmas menu weren't available individually on the regular menu as well. No price on the Christmas menu at all, so probably expensive. Be prepared to take out a mortgage for a round of drinks here. Decent bottles of wine available down the road for £2 less than just a glass costs here, ridiculous! Not somewhere we will bother eating at again, lots of better options on the same road with decent service and food.

We stayed for three nights , a very enjoyable time was had , room 2 was lovely , clean and spacious , we ate , drank and were merry. Breakfast was great as were all the staff and a big thanks to Nicola .

Initially I felt the decor was a little tired but this was made up for by pleasant, friendly staff and well cooked food which we ate in a surprising spacious garden at the rear of the Stag.

Nice atmosphere. Food was really good... traditional pub food. Reasonable price. There's an outdoor seating area at the back. Puddings were lovely too.

Stopped here for the weekend as a base for visiting the new forest. The accommodation, food and staff were all great. Thanks to the hard working staff who made our stay so enjoyable. Can highly recommend a visit to the national motor museum as a great day out too.

Nearly all of the pubs to us are Greene Kings. Not a bad thing in some respects but they do have a certain 'uniform', especially the menu.So having traveled from Kent we find ourselves looking at a very familiar menu!To be fair the difference when at a chain pub come down to the pub itself, the location, clientel and most of all the staff.The Stag did well on all counts. Good location, large roomy and with decent sized garden, very dog friendly, well prepared and presented food and superb staff!!!

While working in the area we visited the Stag for a few drinks. Although we didnt eat here. The beer was good, and the cheapest we found in the area. Nice place that offers the 'traditional pub feel'. The eating area at the back was very well presented. Worth a visit.

Had steak and chips peas and tomato’s cooked exactly as I asked and was very good 26 day steak the other meal was scampi and salad which was plentiful with a nice glass of lager good value and nice bar area

Lunch for 4 people ..quite busy and told it would be 40 minute wait for food ( was an hour in reality) menu states that they can make some vegetarian meals vegan .. but don’t bother asking as they can’t be bothered! I was offered a falafel salad with chips for £14 ... after asking if I could lose the brioche bun , Mayo , sour cream and coleslaw ( none of which were vegan .. had to explain this!) on the falafel burger Meal and just have it with chips and maybe a slice of tomato. Did not want full scale salad . But no I wasn’t allowed that .. declined this and had to made do with chips which arrived cold and greasy. The two classic () burgers ordered were over cooked and tough .. everything was fried in old oil ( Monday must be change day?) . No one enjoyed their meal ..

The welcome was warm and friendly even though the restaurant was chilly. The food was served in good time but the chicken and mushroom pie was very bland. I was expecting something better after reading such good reviews, so was rather disappointed.
