Stag Hotel in New Forest

One night stay in room one, lovely room, huge shower, very comfortable bed, pub okay not very big, fairly pricey. Food very good, menu fairly limited but enough, fantastic cooked breakfast don’t miss! Staff friendly and helpful, parking available but don’t forget to register car on arrival. Would recommend overall. 👍

Went in here with my friends, food was amazing, service was great and had a good ambiance. All around great place for food. Will be recommending to family and definitely coming back.

We were a party of 11 Sunday Evening. The food was extremely good and was enjoyed by all. Our thanks go to Melissa ( we hope that was the young lady’s name as the Malbec had clicked in by then !!)!who looked after us really well nothing was too much trouble and it was service with a smile. Highly recommended.

We visited the Stag Hotel during our holiday in Lyndhurst. Having popped into various establishments up the High Street, we wanted to find somewhere we could eat as a family but would cater for our 5 year old coeliac daughter. Most places were useless and I think we were giving up hope. Lots of places offer meals for GF Adults but nothing to cater for a young child. However I went into the Stag Hotel and asked if they could prepare a meal for a coeliac child and we were blown away by the service. Maria said that she would speak to the chef and see what he could offer for our daughter having asked her the sort of thing she would like. Maria returned and suggested the chef would cook our daughter a fresh piece of chicken with a little GF seasoning along with making her some chips that would be cooked in a GF Air Fryer. She said it would be like her own special nuggets which made her so happy. We were filled with confidence that she understood the importance of coeliac disease and how food should be cooked. The rest of us also thoroughly enjoyed our meals. My other daughter chose the fish from the children's menu and it looked incredible in terms of size. Husband had steak and was pleased with how it was cooked and I chose the pork belly which I would certainly recommend. The staff were attentive but not over the top and the restaurant was clean and tidy.

For my birthday treat my daughter and her husband took me to the Stag for dinner. We were shown to our table and presented with menus . I must say there was vast selection of dishes to choose from. I selected the Chicken dish which delicious followed by a lemon dessert. Reggie looked after us and was pleased to see our dog. The Stag is dog friendly. I am glad to we went to the Stag and hope to return when I am next in Lyndhurst.

A little gem.....very nice polite staff, good decor. Garden area clean and tidy, dogs welcome. Food excellent at dinner. Live band, good. No batteries in the TV remote and apparently no buttons on the TV. So had to do without as it was set really loud. Breakfast not as spectacular as dinner, a little disappointed with that, but would definitely visit again.

So glad we came across The Stag, we were able to park in their own car park free of charge. We received a warm welcome from the waitress. We were very impressed by the professionalism and knowledge of the staff - one of us has an allergy to shellfish. This was taken seriously and efficiently. We had the black bean and mushroom burger which was delicious. Staff were friendly and approachable and took an interest in our onward journey. Our dog was welcomed too.

Had the haddock and chips, batter was very hard, fish lacked taste, seemed like it was prepared the day before and heated up again and was luke warm at best. Didn’t complain to staff as they didn’t seem interested, had to wait ages for anything. Only ate it because I hadn't eaten all day and everywhere else was packed out being a Bank Holiday Monday.

Lovely member of staff- bad knee, 22yrs, works full time, I’m sorry I did not get his name. However chatty, made us feel welcome. Rooms lovely, clean, tidy. A little confusing to find room five! Breakfast - top notch. Atmosphere was lovely and calming. People just chatting. All staff were accommodating. Thankyou xx

I ordered the fish and chips, when it came I took one mouthful and immediately noticed that the fish had a foul smell, strongly resembling that of poo. I took the plate over to the bar and told the barman (who I was informed was the manager). He insisted that it smelt fine and was very dismissive. His tone was very rude. He took the plate to the chef and returned to say that the chef also agreed and claimed it was fresh that day. The two bar ladies agreed that the fish appeared to be off and that it had a foul smell. They also commented on the fact that they felt my complaint wasn’t handled very well by the barman who didn’t apologise or offer a refund. The bar ladies were helpful and did provide a refund.

Popped in on a Saturday night for food, was not left disappointed. I was shown to a table straight away. The starter (courgette soup) was lovely and refreshing, but oh my god, the prawn curry was something else. I’ll definitely make this place my go to for evening meals the next time I’m in The New Forest.

My friend and I stayed a night on the way to Isle if Wight. Food was fabulous and room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. Beds and pillows lovely. What made it really special was the staff. Every staff member we met was friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Bonus was a fabulous garden including large covered area. Great place to stay if you want to visit New Forest.

Stayed here for 5 nights. Staff were extremely friendly and could not do enough for us. Food and accommodation superb. Very welcoming towards our dog Socks, the chef cooking her a sausage each morning. Very accessible to shops and surrounding places of interest. We thoroughly recommend this place.

Staff were amazing, from the minute we walked in the door. We were enroute home from Bournemouth and were looking to stop off for dinner. So glad we stopped here. 3 of us had the burgers which were tasty moist and well cooked . The onion rings were the best ive had. One of our party had the bream, - new on menu today. Fantastic meal. Reggie our waiter was great as were all the staff, very helpful and checked no allergies which i approve of. Chefs Andrew and Holly really looked after us. A lovely meal and fantastic service by all staff who knew the menu well even though was new. Thank you.

Great service, amazing food, exceptional publicans, always provides great entertainment and all this whilst being at reasonable prices! Couldn’t ask for a better pub! Having lived in the area now for almost 2 years I’m pleased to have this as my local. Steve and Maria do so much for the community and my child is always asking if she can go and see them (much to my amusement).

A very pleasant experience, the staff were attentive and friendly, the drinks and food arrived quickly. Everyone enjoyed their food and the portions sizes were impressive. I had rib eye steak, and I have to say it's the best steak I have ever eaten!

Stayed in Lyndhurst for a couple of days for my birthday. We ate at the Stag the food was absolutely amazing. We had the tempura prawns which are to die for.y husband had the belly pork and I had the chicken burger. Both were absolutely delicious. My husband had the sticky toffee pudding also delicious. Staff are lovely, friendly and proactive. Great atmosphere. We will definitely be returning to eat here when in Lyndhurst again.

We've visited here 5 days out of our 7 night stay in Lyndhurst, and by far, it's the most friendliest, welcoming pub that we've visited. All the staff are so happy and welcoming, and the landlady is so nice. Tonight, our last night, we managed to get a table to eat here. Wow! The food is top restaurant quality, and the portion sizes are huge! Highly recommended this establishment and can't wait to return!

A fantastic dog friendly pub that does great food. The sandwiches we had were delicious and it was lovely to get a small cup of tomato soup included. It was reasonably priced for the quality of the food and we will definitely return next time we are in Lyndhurst

The most amazing pie and I ordered extre Carrotts and peas , so good were the portions I offered the ladies opposite the rest.and they accepted, the staff member Cashan was lovely and very helpful, amazing smile too , the guy behind the bar was fantastic too, I'll be back again

Lovely dog friendly pub with great service, good food and excellent atmosphere. We visited on a Monday evening and even then it was busy enough to feel cosy.

Highly recommended. Fantastic and interesting food (I had sea bass served with a delicious risotto and beautifully presented greens). Lovely and attentive service ; unlike other venues I have experienced recently the team were happy to accommodate my covid phobia by seating me away from other people and next to the door. We had a 3 night stay at the Stag. Big room, comfortable bed, good bathroom. The only negative was the lack of a second chair. A small stool is not adequate and most people don't want to sit on the bed or floor.

Came here on a hot summers day for a pint and pub lunch. Really nice and spacious beer garden, and located in a lovely Hampshire village. For the food I got a steak and caramelised onion sandwich, with fries, a side salad, and a small mug of tomato soup. With regards to the sandwich, the bread baguette was really crispy but not the crisp kind that cuts your mouth, but had a nice crunch to it whilst still being soft inside. For mee, personally the steak inside was cooked a little too much, as I prefer medium-rare, and with it being cooked more well done it was a little too chewy for me. The caramelised onions were given generously and gave a really nice flavour to the sandwich. The fries on the side were perfectly crisp and I loved the little basket they came in, and the side salad was crisp with a nice dressing, and definitely could have had more. The mug of soup was definitely very random, but worked really well actually, and dipping the fries in it was 10/10! Service was good and price was standard for a village pub. I was one of a party of 4 that recently visited Lyndhurst for the afternoon for a local event and was recommended to eat at The Stag. I am so glad they did!! Standing proud welcoming you into the charming High Street, The Stag delivers everything you could want from a visit to a Country Pub, authenticity, great food (we had the beef Bourguignon- yum yum yum) and staff that truly cared that we had a nice time. Megan was really helpful and friendly talking us through the options, and also had some great tips of where to visit in The New Forest. You can tell that the Stag team and the pub are an important part of this area, and whether you’re a holiday maker or a local you will want to return. (So fantastically dog friendly too!!)

Great staff, great food, great selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages… I think what stands out for this place is how much they do for the local community and visitors / tourists alike… always putting on great entertainment for all the family and the facilities are fantastic. Lots of TV’s both in and outside yet plenty of space to just relax without being near one. Very very lucky to have this on our doorstep…

Visited the Stag pub and hotel this weekend (August 2020) We visit every year normally in March, but due to Covid 19 lockdown we was unable too. Pub had been decorated and looks absolutely fabulous, lovely warm and inviting. Food and staff as always were fantastic. All Covid 19 restrictions followed. Would highly recommend a visit and definitely recommend one of there many fabulous meals on there menu.

Stopped here for a late lunch and sat in the rear garden as we had a dog with us. Although very quiet, took over 20 minutes for someone to come and take a drink order. Asked for the food menu at the same time. When the drinks arrived, they forgot to bring out the food menu so another waitress had to bring them over. After waiting another 30 minutes we still had no one return to the table to take our food order so we decided to leave. When we went to the bar to pay for the drinks, all the staff were stood around talking and we paid £6.40 for 2 soft drinks which was massively overpriced. Would not recommend this place.

We stopped here for a pub lunch mostly because it had a large garden. The service was slow, one fairly young waitress seemed to be doing everything and subsequently got our order wrong. It was eventually corrected and the food was ok but there was dressing on the salad which we had asked there not to be. One family turned up who obviously knew the people that worked in the pub and there was a lot of distraction from lots of pub workers who seemed to then appear to chat and stand around!
