The Huntsman of Brockenhurst Restaurant in New Forest

Pretty disappointing Sunday roast lunch experience. The menu on their website doesn't have any Sunday roast vegan options even though they say they cater to vegans. When I called to enquire, a general manager kindly spoke to the kitchen and returned my call to say that they were happy to make a vegan roast happen. When we arrived for lunch, the staff didn't seem to have any idea that this was possible. So much for regularly catering for vegan dietary requirements. The pub was not full and there were about 8 wait staff but we waited 45 minutes to have our order taken (after asking three times) and then another 50 minutes for our food to come. Given that bookings indicate that they want the table back after 2 hours, this kind of wait is both frustrating and makes the dining experience rushed and unpleasant. The quality of the food was average. They didn't have one of the vegan options the manager had told me they would, and the only available option (plant patty with roast vegetables) was pretty disappointing for the price. The non-vegan roasts were fine. In all, any vegan roast lunch option at all is a great effort, but it isn't yet part and parcel of the experience and their staff are poorly trained (and presumably underpaid).

Cosy atmosphere, it was very busy but all the staff were great and service was quick and polite. Prices are pretty good too.

We each had a beautiful roast chicken Sunday lunch here - the food was delicious- portion size generous and a great flavoursome variety of vegetables included on the plate - we opted for a side of pigs in duvets which were gorgeous too! Great value, great food, attentive pleasant staff and lovely ambience. Thank you 🙏🏻

The food and service was lovely. Our server was really friendly and accommodating, unfortunately I didn’t get her name. We visited on Saturday 12th October 24. Definitely will be back as and I visited before

After a long walk in beautiful surroundings we walked into a friendly welcome and a lovely roaring fire . We then had a superb lunch , my roast pork was delicious and vegetables outstanding . We left very satisfied and would highly recommend

Stayed here as a family for a weekend. Such a lovely welcoming place with a cosy ambience. The food was excellent and the rooms immaculate and comfy. Would love to return next year 🤞🏼

Stopped by for a drink at the end of our 12 mile walk. It was pleasant.

Food was lovely and the service excellent giving time to enjoy each course before serving the next.

Had a brilliant skittles evening. Anna and her staff looked after us superbly. The food was delicious and the atmosphere great. Lots of fabulous touches to the beautiful log fire lit and the candles. Will be booking again in the near future.

Loveley place in the New Forest. Staff were friendly and helpfull and check-in was easy. Great food, and there is an outside seating area at the side of the restaurant. The rooms are either up the stairs or in a courtyard and are very nice. The only thing I would change is the honesty menu for things like snacks to have with your tea/coffee, etc, at the price level of the rooms. These should be complimentary.

What a gem of a pub in a beautiful area of the country. I enjoyed lovely food on the terrace and the service from Pedro and the other servers was really warm and attentive.

Good pub, service wasn't great as they were super under staffed for how busy it was. Food was OK - overall I'd go back again but prepare for it taking a while to get your food and drink.

Good burger, size a bit small but that's not the main issue, service is awful. The waiter made us feel like unwelcome, I asked for water and he said help yourself to it, I walked up to the water container and it was empty so I let him know and he acted very annoyed and aggressive, as he filled it up, he walked back the same way as our table, he could have grabbed me a glass of water on his way since he was heading the same way, he then said again help yourself. Really didn't like the staff.

Had the outdoor food, lot cheaper than the indoor food. Had to download an app, register, get an email, login, then order only for them to have to come to the table to discuss allergies. Lot of faff for okay food that had no option for healthy food. Maybe indoors would have been better

We had lunch booked for 12:30pm at The Huntsman, a pub we had visited previously. We received a warm welcome and shown to a table in the patio area as requested. The waitress was very friendly and efficient. We ordered 2 x homemade Pea and Ham Hock soup for starters, which was very tasty. For our mains, we ordered Trout steak, brown crab & caper butter sauce and the Pork Chop. Both were very tasty. I had the Ringwood Fortyniner which I think is a great beer for a Saturday lunchtime.

We stayed at The Huntsman and had two dinners with family guests. The staff were very friendly and helpful, with well equipped rooms which were clean, quiet and comfortable. Both dinners were great with good food and decent service. The breakfast was also excellent. We’ve already been back once this month and will visit again. A gem in the New Forest and excellent value for money. We stayed at Carey’s Manor a few months ago, but The Huntsman is our preferred option now that we’ve found it.

Me and my partner came for dinner. We decided to have a burger from the burger shack. The waiter was lovely and very attentive. Even though it was very busy, he was fabulous. The food was lovely also! Will be returning if we’re in the area again. Thank you <3

Lovely setting and nice decor inside and outside but I thought the staff weren’t particularly friendly, the food was ridiculously overpriced and the vegan and vegetarian options were extremely limited. We won’t be returning.

Nice atmosphere and good service. Had the chicken wings which were very nice.

Came for lunch, we sat in the garden, and had the vegan burger, which was incredible!! One of the best we have ever had! We will definitely be back, maybe tonight!!

our server Pedro was fantastic and very funny with a great personality, the restaurant was very well presented and enjoyable to eat in and the food is on another level. we ordered the bavet steak and it was amazing. would really recommend this to anyone visiting the new forest area and there is a burger bar outside and very large beer garden too. very pleasant experience! thank you Pedro :)

Food very poor and expensive. Service very slow as not many staff working

Absolute rubbish. Stopped for lunch. They won't serve cold food outside, only burgers on a hot sunny day. No toilet rolls in any of the toilets. You have to login to a stupid app to order food. No customer service whatsoever, in fact I get better customer service from my local kebab house. Poor show. Wont be coming back... no wonder it was the only pub in brockenhurst that had free tables. Drank my drink and walked up the road where I found everything I expect from a pub after not finding it here. - Thank you for your reply. Frankly I think its a very short sighted decision to limit what people can eat outside on a day like that, even if it is a new venture. The pub was empty, the terrace had a few people on it so I find it difficult to believe you couldn't accommodate the people sat in the garden. If you can't accommodate that many customers then why do you have the seating available? If you can't provide a satisfactory service then why provide it at all! I'm sure that you will figure out a way to rectify these issues and I'm sure I will be back one day regardless. Thank you for listening and hopefully next time we'll receive the kind of service we expect and pay for by being there.

We visited the Huntsman last night for what we hoped would be a nice meal on the last night of a stay in the New Forest. We’d looked at the menu online before arriving and chosen the mixed grill, which at £48 is suggested for two to share. We were seated and ordered this and when it arrived, we were genuinely shocked - for two to share there was one anaemic sausage, a salty chicken breast, one slice of ‘smoked gammon’ (which was nothing more than a slightly thicker slice of back bacon) and a small rump steak, alongside one tiny croquette. Included were two sides - we chose the tomato salad and the broccoli which were fine. We were told not to order chips as it came with them, and were then given one scantly filled portion barely big enough for one person. We spoke to a staff member who very helpfully pointed out that whilst the menu was EXACTLY the same as online, the phrase ‘suggested for two to share’ has been removed meaning that they had decided to mislead customers and charge £48 for a meal they had suddenly decided was for one person only - especially given the 12oz ribeye was on the menu at £42. Even more interesting given that when our order was taken the waitress automatically assumed we were sharing and asked if we were picking one side each or sharing them too. We politely pointed this out to the waitresses (who in fairness were very friendly and helpful) and after asking, they removed the drinks from our bill. There was one incredibly noisy table which others had moved away from, so we just paid our bill and left. Such a shame that The Huntsman have decided to deceive customers and use this an excuse to serve extortionately priced and very mediocre food when the pub itself is nice enough and has so much potential.

Great pub! popped in to the Huntsman for a lovely Sunday lunch and was very impressed with the great atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food! will certainly be returning for a stay here in the summer.

Had a meal and watched the euros final, great meal shame about the football result!

Service was very slow and could be improved, had to keep asking for the bill. Food was tasty but we felt that a lot of the options were overpriced for what you actually get ‐ £19 for a steak pie...£15 for a underwhelming, small portion of sausage and mash. Pub is in good location though and accommodates for dogs and families.

Excellent food and service from Micaela even when sitting in the garden. Very dog friendly.

All the staff have made the birthday meal very special, decorated the table prior to our arrival, brought cake out with candles and sang happy birthday. Service was amazing and so was the food.

Food was very good. Service by Pedro amazing! A little more vegan choice would improve things and if an imgredient of a dish is not available, prior notice would be good, rather than finding out when dish is served. Hoping to see a bigger and more varied menu in due course.

Awesome food, reasonable price. Pedro was pleasant and fun. Maybe next time, he will have that pickled egg we craved!

Perfect spot for a break in the New Forest, and a good base to explore from. We went for the fish & chips and sausage and mash, both of which were really tasty and good value. The staff were really friendly and the garden is lovely.

Micaela was a our server today. She was very friendly, funny and made us feel very welcome. She was very knowledgeable about allergies and I felt comfortable eating there. The food was great! The fish and chips were massive, the plant burger was tasty and the beef burger was lovely too! All very good value too, just a shame we were too full for dessert.

Had a delicious vegan meal, including deserts. The waiter Pedro was very friendly and helpful too.

We come to the New Forest annually & always visit The Huntsman for food. This visit didn't disappoint - great food (as always!), lovely location and the pub has a fab ambience & decor. Huge shout out to Pedro our waiter - he went out of his way to make our two girls laugh & they loved him. 'Thank you me darling' - Pedro will understand. 😊

It's a real shame that the staff think customers want to listen to loud music whilst having a drink and a lunchtime chat. My friend and I left when the music was turned up for the 3rd time.

Such a lovely enviroment but could do more vegetarians options Pedro always gives excellent and friendly service!

Staff ignored us for 20 mins waiting for bill, food was horribly greasy. It's a shame as they were great up until we ordered and were attentive. Clearly overworked.

A large group of us had Sunday roast at The Huntsman over the bank holiday. Could not fault the service and food, a lovely afternoon in the beauty of The New Forest.

While camping nearby, we booked ahead for a large group for Sunday lunch and ended up having a fantastic full afternoon at The Huntsman. Some of us arrived early so started with a drink in the large garden followed by a really tasty full roast dinner. Others had fish & chips and sausage & mash which looked really good and the burgers were stacked! The staff gave us just the right amount of attention to make sure we had enough to drink and everyone had a relaxed time, including the kids and dogs! Felt like home from home so stayed for drinks afterwards. Will be camping locally again in Aug and will definitely be booking a table here again. Would love to come back and check out the rooms sometime too.

An amazing place with fantastic staff. We were a large party and had a really good Sunday lunch and were looked after beautifully. Definitely a place to go if you’re in the New Forest. We hope to be back again, a lot. Thank you!

Wow. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left , we received top notch service. The friendliest of staff , a lovely atmosphere and the best roast dinner we’ve ever had . Our Labrador Hattie really enjoyed being fussed over , and her treat . Well done Team Huntsman . We’ll be back .

Had a lovely meal in your pub last night. It was a busy BH Friday evening. The pub was well staffed with super friendly, professional, experienced and above all smiling staff. So refreshing to have superb service. Food was great as well.

Our friends stayed here and we popped in for a drink at the end of the evening. The gentleman behind the bar was lovely. We enjoyed a lovely bottle of wine.

Under new management so we were told and out party of walkers could not have been made more welcome for a brilliant lunch in this excellent pub.

What a lovely meal. Pedro served us , we had our dog with us and he made a special effort to look after him and give him treats. So all in all a very pleasant evening . Great service and super food

Room was small but cozy and nicely decorated. Staff were friendly. Food was great. Nicely situated near the station and the bike hire shop.

Delicious food, although a bit expensive for what it was. Would recommend the scallop starter and the ox cheek croquettes! Staff were lovely too.

We had the Sunday roast and we can honestly say it's the best roast we've had out since we can remember. Children's food was fantastic too and they offered a vegan chocolate brownie with vegan ice cream as a dessert option - very much appreciated for our son with multiple allergies normally has very limited options. Would highly recommend..

I recently visited The Huntsman and was greeted by Ella, who gave us a warm welcome and made us feel right at home. The highlight of the evening was definitely the amazing roast prepared by the chefs at The Huntsman. It was cooked to perfection and left us wanting more. The Huntsman made for a fantastic dining experience that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great meal in a cozy atmosphere. Absolutely number one in Brockhurst!

First time here, large dining area, massive outside area with covered area. Food is really good and good portions, higher end of the price scale. Good selection of wines, beers, ales. Shame they don't do pizza all year round.
