The Huntsman of Brockenhurst Restaurant in New Forest

We had a really nice Mother's Day. The food was fantastic and the staff really nice.

Went for a quiz night... it was great and challenging.

We like to stay in "Pubs with Rooms" and this is one of the better ones. We had a feature room, which on reflection, was a good choice but in the older part of the hotel with limited headroom for someone over 6 feet tall, the shower could have been better. :-) We had an excellent dinner, and excellent lunch and two very substantial breakfasts during our stay. The management are building a good team, and we had very attentive and professional service. In short, we really like the vibe, and the managers relaxed but hands on approach. We hope to be back later in the year.

No rooms so can't answered that. Service was a bit hap hazard but friendly.

Very slow and inattentive service, staff didn't seem to know what was going on. Asked "what we wanted to drink" from across the room, and interrupted during out starter being asked "what we wanted for main". Very poor food presentation and amount without items as described on the menu. Shame as we visited last year and had a wonderful meal.

The pub has been recently refurbed and is looking good. The food is top notch and the staff are really friendly. It's also dog friendly in some areas.

Following a February sunny day on the beach we wanted a dog friendly place to eat and really fancied a proper Sunday roast. A quick search and rating put our eye on The Huntsman and reading the description of menu we set our sights here. In short did not disappoint and the kids [dogs] were made very welcome too.

Went for an evening meal on Saturday to celebrate a birthday. Food and service was amazing. Even had a game of skittles after dinner! Will come back again soon.

Visited for lunch as a ‘walk-in’ on our way elsewhere. The service was friendly and efficient and we had a very enjoyable meal.

Popped in for Sunday lunch, warm welcome as we arrived. Restaurant is being renovated and looks amazing. Can't wait to come back and see it when its all finished. Amazing roast pork followed by the best crumble I've tasted in years. Will be back to try more from your main menu.

Booked for Friday night after a recommendation from a friend. Really nice cosy room, looks like they have been recently refurbished. We then had dinner and cocktails in the bar and spent most of our evening here, really friendly service and the food was deliscous. Followed by a really nice full English in the morning! We went for lunch on a Saturday having booked online prior. Bar staff made no attempt to welcome us on arrival, we had to find our own way to the restaurant. Henri did a great job finding our table and serving us with a smile. He was dealing with a lot of big tables with little help which slowed down food service. Once the food came it was good but didn’t taste fresh. Main issue was lack of people serving in restaurant. There are better more authentic pubs int eh new forest.

Went for lunch and the food was gorgeous. Good selection and so well done. Lovely atmosphere.

We booked the Hunstman for a post wedding celebration. We had 150 friends and family join us for a party and Anna and Boyd and their team really looked after us and made the day incredibly special. Before the event their communication was great. They were really flexible when our numbers were changing and their suggestions on how to run the event best were really on-point and helped us make the most of the day. All the food served was great and the bar staff smashed the cocktails out to great effect. The DJ they recommended went down a treat and all-in-all the day was even better than we could ever have expected. Thanks guys!

Brockenhurst and District Probus held a skittles night at the Huntsman last night (23/1/25) for 40 people. The food was served on time, the quality was superb and the service was equally excellent. The skittles facility has been vamped up and the room is smart and comfortable. All 40 people expressed that they had a fabulous night and asked when can we do it again? Thank you Anna, Boyd and your excellent staff for giving us a wonderful experience.

Great spot for breakfast/lunch. We were doing a walk around new forest and the area and this is the perfect spot to warm up and have some delicious food. The team was incredibly friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately we went for a late lunch after a long hike on Monday and the menu was very changeable with dishes being unavailable as we were ordering. The January set menu we were given was different to the website, I ended up with something I never would have ordered. It was all very confusing and not very good either. I feel quite unwell today

One of the best Sunday roasts I have had in a long time! Lovely and warm in the pub on a cold January day so the whole atmosphere was cozy and the staff very welcoming.

Probably the best roast I’ve ever had in a pub! Service was very slow, but it was busy and worth the wait!

Rude, unhelpful, told us we could not order lunch but could order snacks, on a Saturday at 1:30pm?. At least half of the tables empty. We were then told by barman we could not order snacks. Not everyone drinks pints for lunch! Nice looking building, that’s it. Won’t be back.

We visited The Huntsman in Brockenhurst for Sunday lunch. We both had a roast - the beef was absolutely perfect. There was a nice atmosphere and lots of young families. We would definitely visit again.

First time visiting this place whilst on hoilday with family. The pub has a friendly atmosphere when entering. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was superb as well. I would recommend this place to anyone.

I had a resorvation and we were seated in the back by the toilets. We then waited 40 minutes for any service. At the 30 minute mark I asked the bartender if they could catch someone to assist us as we were ready for service. At the 40 minute mark, we left as it was obvious we were forgotten about.

This place was really not very good. We booked the “big comfy” room. Initial impressions were alright, room is presented fairly well, tea and coffee facilities etc. pretty, tall ceilings. I attempted to have a bath, and found out the plug doesn’t hold water. Annoying. We then went to have dinner at the restaurant. I was pretty taken back by the prices, so I was expecting something really good, as I’ve paid less at fancy inner London establishments. Food was average, at best. Severely overpriced. For breakfast we decided to go to “the retreat” down the road. This was a great choice, It was great and you should go there too, if you’re staying. The cold. I wasn’t going to mention this as it didn’t actually bother me, and it is simply a “feature” of the building, but it may bother someone else. We stayed in December where it was 4C overnight. The room has large, single glazed windows, one of which did not properly close, meaning a permanent cold draft coming from the window by the bed. An electric heater is provided so they are obviously aware of this, but it is also loud. The noise. I don’t know what it is, but there is a permanent, loud, mechanical hum in the room (this isn’t the heater mentioned above. Possibly boiler?). It sounds like a diesel engine running outside. In addition, there is another high pitched noise that comes on and off, reminiscent of tinnitus. The bed. Now, their website describes this as an “uber comfy bed”. Lies. These are lies. I’m writing this review whilst sitting up on the bed after having slept in it. I assure you it is anything but “uber comfy”. Both my hips are in a lot of pain. It is somehow both too soft and unsupportive and too hard. I can feel the springs of the mattress. For reference, I’m 30 years old and of healthy weight. With the combination of the noise and uncomfortable bed, it was not a good night. In my opinion we grossly overpaid for this room. Upon checkout, nobody asked how our stay was, how we slept, whether everything was alright, only either we took anything from the honesty bar. Since you didn’t bother to ask, I didn’t tell you.

We had our works Christmas do at The Huntsman and it was absolutely perfect, we had a private area in the skittle alley and ate through in the restaurant - the food was delicious and staff were amazing, especially Anna and Boyd who helped with ensuring the event went smoothly. Such a fab time at a great venue!

Not a very friendly arrival, yes it is Christmas time and they had large groups to organise, but they could have been a bit more relaxed. We arrived at 12.00 and after a mix up with our meals, we finally received them at 1.00. When they did arrive the food was good, and presented well.

Great atmosphere, great food, great hosts and on top of all that there a separate bar and skittle alley! Would definitely recommend and it’s a few hundred yards from Brockenhurst station.

Had a biking group Christmas lunch at The Huntsman today. The venue was impressive. The service (Anna and the team) was terrific - efficient and very obliging. The table decorations were tasteful and the food itself was wonderful with perfect sized portions, deliciously cooked and quickly served. All in all a great day and I can't wait to return for another visit.

We’ve just had an amazing Xmas lunch party at the Huntsman. Anna and her team looked after all 23 of us without a hitch. The food and the service was amazing. Everything piping hot and tasty. Nothing was too much bother. Thank you so much. We will be back.

This was a first for our group of friends at this venue for a pre-christmas get together and definitely not the last. The food was great and the staff very friendly. As Arnie said, I'll be back!

Staff couldn’t have been kinder. We walked from Lyndhurst and were much slower than hoped as the forest was quite flooded in places. Staff told us not to worry and a warm meal would await us when we arrived. A lovely meal, great service and ambiance. Thank you.

We hired the skittles alley and bar area for nearly 60 people, and had an absolutely fantastic Christmas Do. Booking and ordering were a breeze during a very busy time of year for me. The buffet came out fast, the staff catered for a range of dietary requirements and preferences and everyone had plenty of food. Having the in-built entertainment of the Skittles alley was a real highlight, absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a fun venue in the New Forest. Being five minutes walk from Brockenhurst station was a big plus for a lot of group, public transport in the area is not always a given! Big thank you to the front of house and kitchen who made the night possible, I’m sure we’ll be back! 🥳

The radiator wasn't working. Offered fan heater, but that stopped working. Room felt damp. Manager fixed radiator but a day late. No compensation offered. Room over priced for condition of room

Nice decor and ambience but service was a bit hit and miss. They seemed to be struggling with a half filled restaurant. Friendly enough though.

Overpriced food, deceptive menu. Sounds flamboyant but is overpriced rubbish. Asked to swap something upon order Waitress was rude made us feel uncomfortable and stupid for this. I was speechless but left it as was out with old friends and didn’t want to make a scene. Parts were missing from a lot of the meals and I was charged an extra £1 for missing cheese in my burger and it was served to me in a wedge because they simply couldn’t be bothered to melt it. Frozen fries with burger don’t expect that for cost.was appalled how I was spoken to twice by the waiteress, it gave me anxiety the whole meal she should work elsewhere and not in customer service. “ Hope to see you again, but not you two” Is what she said to us at the end of our meal upon payment. We only asked if we could swap venison for a beef burger upon order. We are real foodies and never have I had this kind of service.Ive been local all my life, i won’t be heading back here in a hurry! Thankyou for your response, The waitress was making remarks when I asked about the ketchup in the burger, when we ordered too and when we left she said about us two not coming back first. As I said previously we had had a nice time seeing old friends but my partner and I felt as though we were an inconvenience from ordering but we let it slide, something I don’t expect when I am going out for food. I’m up for a laugh and a joke but I didn’t find this funny. When we left the same waitress made the remark first and our friends laughed it off but I actually didn’t find her making comments helpful or necessary. I wasn’t rude at all at any point, just asked if I could swap the venison for beef and asked questions about the ketchup because I don’t like ketchup and she was annoyed. This was made into a massive deal and made me especially feel stupid. I hope in future your staff will be more allowing for people who dine in your establishment and if they make a request and it’s too difficult a simple apologies we are unable to swap the burger would of been adequate without the added remarks. Once again thankyou for your response to my comment.

Stopped on way to our AirBnb for the weekend. Lovely lunch then moved into more pub by side for beers, skittles and darts by the real fire. Perfect.

Great little pub in a great location for Brockenhurst. We enjoyed a lovely dinner on a Friday night. Good service and nice setting. Would recommend.

One of the best Sunday roasts I've ever had!

Pretty disappointing Sunday roast lunch experience. The menu on their website doesn't have any Sunday roast vegan options even though they say they cater to vegans. When I called to enquire, a general manager kindly spoke to the kitchen and returned my call to say that they were happy to make a vegan roast happen. When we arrived for lunch, the staff didn't seem to have any idea that this was possible. So much for regularly catering for vegan dietary requirements. The pub was not full and there were about 8 wait staff but we waited 45 minutes to have our order taken (after asking three times) and then another 50 minutes for our food to come. Given that bookings indicate that they want the table back after 2 hours, this kind of wait is both frustrating and makes the dining experience rushed and unpleasant. The quality of the food was average. They didn't have one of the vegan options the manager had told me they would, and the only available option (plant patty with roast vegetables) was pretty disappointing for the price. The non-vegan roasts were fine. In all, any vegan roast lunch option at all is a great effort, but it isn't yet part and parcel of the experience and their staff are poorly trained (and presumably underpaid).

Cosy atmosphere, it was very busy but all the staff were great and service was quick and polite. Prices are pretty good too.

We each had a beautiful roast chicken Sunday lunch here - the food was delicious- portion size generous and a great flavoursome variety of vegetables included on the plate - we opted for a side of pigs in duvets which were gorgeous too! Great value, great food, attentive pleasant staff and lovely ambience. Thank you 🙏🏻

After a long walk in beautiful surroundings we walked into a friendly welcome and a lovely roaring fire . We then had a superb lunch , my roast pork was delicious and vegetables outstanding . We left very satisfied and would highly recommend

Stayed here as a family for a weekend. Such a lovely welcoming place with a cosy ambience. The food was excellent and the rooms immaculate and comfy. Would love to return next year 🤞🏼

Loveley place in the New Forest. Staff were friendly and helpfull and check-in was easy. Great food, and there is an outside seating area at the side of the restaurant. The rooms are either up the stairs or in a courtyard and are very nice. The only thing I would change is the honesty menu for things like snacks to have with your tea/coffee, etc, at the price level of the rooms. These should be complimentary.

What a gem of a pub in a beautiful area of the country. I enjoyed lovely food on the terrace and the service from Pedro and the other servers was really warm and attentive.

Good pub, service wasn't great as they were super under staffed for how busy it was. Food was OK - overall I'd go back again but prepare for it taking a while to get your food and drink.

Good burger, size a bit small but that's not the main issue, service is awful. The waiter made us feel like unwelcome, I asked for water and he said help yourself to it, I walked up to the water container and it was empty so I let him know and he acted very annoyed and aggressive, as he filled it up, he walked back the same way as our table, he could have grabbed me a glass of water on his way since he was heading the same way, he then said again help yourself. Really didn't like the staff.

Had the outdoor food, lot cheaper than the indoor food. Had to download an app, register, get an email, login, then order only for them to have to come to the table to discuss allergies. Lot of faff for okay food that had no option for healthy food. Maybe indoors would have been better

We had lunch booked for 12:30pm at The Huntsman, a pub we had visited previously. We received a warm welcome and shown to a table in the patio area as requested. The waitress was very friendly and efficient. We ordered 2 x homemade Pea and Ham Hock soup for starters, which was very tasty. For our mains, we ordered Trout steak, brown crab & caper butter sauce and the Pork Chop. Both were very tasty. I had the Ringwood Fortyniner which I think is a great beer for a Saturday lunchtime.

We stayed at The Huntsman and had two dinners with family guests. The staff were very friendly and helpful, with well equipped rooms which were clean, quiet and comfortable. Both dinners were great with good food and decent service. The breakfast was also excellent. We’ve already been back once this month and will visit again. A gem in the New Forest and excellent value for money. We stayed at Carey’s Manor a few months ago, but The Huntsman is our preferred option now that we’ve found it.

Me and my partner came for dinner. We decided to have a burger from the burger shack. The waiter was lovely and very attentive. Even though it was very busy, he was fabulous. The food was lovely also! Will be returning if we’re in the area again. Thank you <3

Lovely setting and nice decor inside and outside but I thought the staff weren’t particularly friendly, the food was ridiculously overpriced and the vegan and vegetarian options were extremely limited. We won’t be returning.

Came for lunch, we sat in the garden, and had the vegan burger, which was incredible!! One of the best we have ever had! We will definitely be back, maybe tonight!!

our server Pedro was fantastic and very funny with a great personality, the restaurant was very well presented and enjoyable to eat in and the food is on another level. we ordered the bavet steak and it was amazing. would really recommend this to anyone visiting the new forest area and there is a burger bar outside and very large beer garden too. very pleasant experience! thank you Pedro :)

Absolute rubbish. Stopped for lunch. They won't serve cold food outside, only burgers on a hot sunny day. No toilet rolls in any of the toilets. You have to login to a stupid app to order food. No customer service whatsoever, in fact I get better customer service from my local kebab house. Poor show. Wont be coming back... no wonder it was the only pub in brockenhurst that had free tables. Drank my drink and walked up the road where I found everything I expect from a pub after not finding it here. - Thank you for your reply. Frankly I think its a very short sighted decision to limit what people can eat outside on a day like that, even if it is a new venture. The pub was empty, the terrace had a few people on it so I find it difficult to believe you couldn't accommodate the people sat in the garden. If you can't accommodate that many customers then why do you have the seating available? If you can't provide a satisfactory service then why provide it at all! I'm sure that you will figure out a way to rectify these issues and I'm sure I will be back one day regardless. Thank you for listening and hopefully next time we'll receive the kind of service we expect and pay for by being there.

We visited the Huntsman last night for what we hoped would be a nice meal on the last night of a stay in the New Forest. We’d looked at the menu online before arriving and chosen the mixed grill, which at £48 is suggested for two to share. We were seated and ordered this and when it arrived, we were genuinely shocked - for two to share there was one anaemic sausage, a salty chicken breast, one slice of ‘smoked gammon’ (which was nothing more than a slightly thicker slice of back bacon) and a small rump steak, alongside one tiny croquette. Included were two sides - we chose the tomato salad and the broccoli which were fine. We were told not to order chips as it came with them, and were then given one scantly filled portion barely big enough for one person. We spoke to a staff member who very helpfully pointed out that whilst the menu was EXACTLY the same as online, the phrase ‘suggested for two to share’ has been removed meaning that they had decided to mislead customers and charge £48 for a meal they had suddenly decided was for one person only - especially given the 12oz ribeye was on the menu at £42. Even more interesting given that when our order was taken the waitress automatically assumed we were sharing and asked if we were picking one side each or sharing them too. We politely pointed this out to the waitresses (who in fairness were very friendly and helpful) and after asking, they removed the drinks from our bill. There was one incredibly noisy table which others had moved away from, so we just paid our bill and left. Such a shame that The Huntsman have decided to deceive customers and use this an excuse to serve extortionately priced and very mediocre food when the pub itself is nice enough and has so much potential.

Had a meal and watched the euros final, great meal shame about the football result!

Service was very slow and could be improved, had to keep asking for the bill. Food was tasty but we felt that a lot of the options were overpriced for what you actually get ‐ £19 for a steak pie...£15 for a underwhelming, small portion of sausage and mash. Pub is in good location though and accommodates for dogs and families.
