Had an amazing roast on 2/2/25. Staff were great and attentive. The waiter remembered I was vegan so when I ordered a dessert that was no longer vegan, he was able to let me know to order something else. Quality of food was great from starter to dessert. Would highly recommend

The hotel itself is very nice and the rooms are very large. However the staff were inattentive and didn't seem to want to work. The evening meal was really nice. We did have an issue with one of the items not available and no communication from the chef to waiting staff. (Which there was one that was doing any work). The others were chatting behind the bar or playing with a mobile phone. One of our party had no hot water in the room and there wasn't anyone responsible enough to ask available. They couldn't fix coffee machine. The staff needed training in hospitality and customer service. The table we sat at for breakfast hadn't been cleaned from the night before. Attention to detail is required.

Had my late mum's wake here on Monday and it was so lovely. We had the Orchid Suite with a bar. We chose the hot buffet and sandwiches and they were delicious along with honey cocktail sausage, sausage rolls, hot chicken bits, We made some cakes and took them along to offer. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time there albeit a bit sad . Would recommend if you need to have a wake after the crematorium which is about 5 minutes drive away

We stayed here for a friend's wedding. The venue was really good with all the facilities you need, friendly staff, excellent food and a very very efficient heating system which must cost them a fortune to run.🤔 It really was to hot for comfort, as itt causes restless sleep which was a shame, as that bed was really comfortable. To top everything off... we were charged extra for the breakfast that was supposed to be included in the price of the booking Real shame

I visited the Mortimer Arms for the first time today after a recommendation from a friend. The new owner took over just a couple of weeks again, and I was told that their roast dinners are particularly good. The new owner made us feel very welcome on arrival and explained the exciting plans he has for the establishment over the next few months. Although the surroundings are a little bit tired in places, everything was very clean and owner is already making lots of changes. The roast dinner did not disappoint, possibly the best I've had in a pub and would 100% recommend. A huge thank you to Michael and his team. We will definitely be coming back and we wish you luck with your exciting new venture. If you are local to the area, you should definitely The Mortimer Arms a visit.

We were welcomed by Michael, the new owner since last Monday. He gave us a glass of wine each on the house as he said they'd only just opened the kitchen (it was barely 12pm) so lunch might be delayed. Had a delicious lunch. The scallops weren't available so Michael arranged for me to have fresh haddock with caper sauce and vegetables. Superb. We shared a large prawn cocktail and didn't realise Michael had removed it from the bill until we'd left. Excellent food and we wish Michael great success in his new business. He deserves it.

Nicely present classic British pub, with plenty of off street parking. Different areas to sit in, in effectively different rooms with the larger dining area around the bar area. Cozy, warm and inviting, did not stay in the rooms so can’t comment. We enjoyed Sunday roast with Pork, beef, chicken options. We went for dinner after a busy weekend at Peppa pig world, very easy to pop in to re-fuel before a long drive! Easy 4 star traditional type pub.

After frequently visiting The Mortimers over the last 30+ years I was very disappointed when my wife and I called in for a lunch time snack today (27th August 2024) We chose to eat in the restaurant area. Arriving and looking upwards ! The state of the decoration I thought needed to be improved (the celling paper bulging and ready to fall down) Not very inviting for a “restaurant area.” Ordered drinks and placed an order for food. Leak and potato soup and a small Ham & eggs. The soup was more like “pea soup” dark green and really inedible. The Ham appeared old and dry and once again not very appetising. Both plates were left and a complaint was made to the bartender. Response was “I will tell the chef.” I would not recommend The Mortimers to those visiting the Romsey area; and I will not be returning again.

Very close to Paulton Park, and probably fine for a drink at the bar - but would avoid for food and accommodation. Items on the evening menu was sold out by 7pm. The adult bed was old and uncomfortable. The children beds were dreadful thin camp beds - see other reviews too on this point: avoid. The room (3) was dusty - - grubby stained carpets and walls: see photos. The lady serving breakfast openly slagged off the children who had recently departed for "wasting their food" for all to hear, and then when the cook came into the dinning room to tell her he couldn't make scrambled egg because they were out of double cream (which was odd) she scolded him publicly, saying "English people put WATER* in scrabbled eggs, not double cream!". *Please see BBC guide on how to make scrabble eggs - and again avoid their's. https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/how_to_make_scrambled_93136 Way over priced for what is a 2 star establishment - I wouldn't ever want to go back, and am baffled by the reviews that suggest the food and accommodation is good!?!?!

The place is overall in the perfect location for Paultons park. The rooms look modern upfront but ours had a lot of damage. My 6yo was on a camper bed that bent severely in the middle which made him move into our bed very quickly. I looked at the bed and it was a thin mattress topper on a metal frame that just bowed. The service was great apart from one exception. I would use it again but I would maybe make changes to my booking. Also I love dogs, but don’t think they should be around at dinner/breakfast. On our first night the noise from the boiler in the next room was so loud we had to ask to move to an alternative room which the staff did without question. The welcome we got on arrival was very pleasant although the staff the second day were far less amenable. We ate in the hotel on both nights and the food was good albeit on the second night we had to sit in the public bar to eat as one of the 3 rooms in the restaurant was being used for a function the other rooms in the restaurant were available so we didnt understand the logic in having guests eat in the public bar. Generaly the bar area is in need of a major refurbishment as it felt very tired.

I didn’t complain as, you know”It’s that weird vegan complaining again” . I just wish I’d taken a photo. I’ve had much better curries from Aldi. Still, the wine was good.

Their website featured a £12.00 lunch special menu which sounded promising. Unfortunately after buying drinks we were told it finished yesterday for the summer. Settled on just a starter and choose a sharing seafood platter for 2. That and a side order of fries totalled £19.98. They should be embarrassed to serve a platter that comprised of 4 small prawns, 6 small whitebait and 4 small pieces of tasteless calamari. A poor portion for one. Really gone downhill. We always come here for dinner after a day at Paulton’s Park. The first time we went the service was fabulous, the lady attending to our table even brought me a pint glass of water when she was I breastfeeding our baby. It was a cosy, warm and friendly pub. We’ve always gone back as it’s such a perfect location for Paulton’s Park, and the food has always been good. However we went back yesterday and despite being the only ones in there (there seemed to be an event going on in a room next door), the service was weird, and very poor. We felt in the way and like we weren’t really wanted there. Their wood fired pizzas have also been taken off the menu which is a shame. The food is still good but the atmosphere was strange, we were left to our own devices and we had packed up and put our kids pyjamas on before our table had even been cleared from our mains. It’s not like they were run off their feet! My husband asked for a double espresso to be met with a ‘couldn’t care less’ response of: ‘my coffee machine doesn’t do double espresso. Only instant coffee.’ On the way out I saw their coffee machine which very clearly did have an espresso option. The server did apologise for not attending to our table more but all in all it was just a very odd dining experience which is the complete opposite to what we’ve experienced before here. I think we’ll be finding somewhere else for dinner on our next trip to Paulson’s Park!

Went here for a meal with my partner and toddler. We ordered promptly and subsequently waited close to an hour for food at a time the pub was empty apart from one other table (who were already eating). We were told they'd forgot to put our order through and that it would be a couple more minutes before our food arrived. When it arrived, I cut open the fish (for my toddler) to find it cold and uncooked in the middle. I was delighted I checked it before I let him take a bite. I immediately let the staff member know who just about grumbled an apology. By this point I had a miserable and starving 2 year old and I'd had enough so we left. The girl behind the bar was friendly and brought crayons over for the toddler. This was the only positive. We left without even taking a bit of food. The food served was not safe and would recommend not visiting this place. To say it is so close to Paultons Park it was absolutely dead around closing time when you would think that families would be looking for a quick bite before travelling home. I can see now why it was empty.

We went here for dinner and the service was really bad. Two women waitresses were scruffy and loud, you don’t bang the customers plates down when serving, it’s not nice for us to hear you telling the young waiter off in front of customers, who was doing a better service than you I can assure you that.. food was o.k, but these two definitely put us off returning again…

Booked a table for our family that had just got off the plane from Canada. 8 of us arrived….. they didn’t seem to be expecting us. They had to move a couple of tables around (unhappily). We all ordered and after asking twice were begrudgingly served one hour and twenty minutes later! Food was fine. Service dreadful.

Had visited previously and so enjoyed it, we returned after our visit to Poultons Park. Sunday menu this time, which wasn't the same as other days, and we were't shown any 'specials' board, although became aware that others were having different choices to us. Wish we had pre-booked meal choices, but as we didn't there was some wait for food to arrive. Meals were fine, but not special this time. If attending again, would avoid a Sunday, and look out for specials.

Convenient for peppa pig but that’s about it, needs updating one female member of staff very unfriendly! Food is nice but a roast dinner doesn’t warrant £19:50!!

We booked here for dinner after a day at Peppa Pig World. It's literally right at the end of the road that PP world is on! The atmosphere was great, the food really tasty (warning that it's big portions!) and the staff were all so friendly and welcoming, especially with the little ones :-)

The food was nice, but I thought £17.99 for a cottage pie that consisted mainly of potatoes was expensive. The staff were very friendly although there were some delays when we visited. I also think the place could do with a bit of a refresh.

A great Sunday roast. Huge portions and all really well cooked. We got all the sides and they were really tasty. Benn looking for a go-to Sunday roast and now we've found one (had many disappointments in other places). We'll be back.
