The Happy Cheese in New Forest

Enjoyed a family meal here on a Sunday. Food was excellent, especially the pies. The children loved the unicorn ice cream!! Service from Mia was fantastic. Thank you !

I think this place is better worse and worse. The meat is shocking and just fatty. They staff didn’t give a *+*+ when I mentioned it. Not very impressed anymore. Going down hill.

Second visit here and it didn’t disappoint. From starters to pudding the food was amazing. Will definitely recommend and be back the next time we are in the area.

We always loved the gelato here as it was very tasty, but we went recently and the serving amount was not the same anymore. We ordered 2 scoops of ice cream but it didnt even fill the rim of the tub. We will still come back as it is one of our favorite place to go but hope that the serving would be as generous as before. Thanks!

What a brilliant place. The staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The food is amazing. The atmosphere, so welcoming. We have had two nights in the New Forest and have eaten here both nights.... fantastic. The Baked Camembert is superb.

When we was camping we ate here quite a few times. Staff are lovely, kind and helpful. Food was amazing! Such a wide range of dishes to choose from so there would definitely be something for everyone. Also the apple pie and their selection of ice creams were delicious. Would definitely return when we go camping again next year

Has 2 burger meals which where cold and could not reheat also a lasagna meal which was fine as could reheat for £47.00 very disappointed

9 of us have just had a really lovely lunch after a New Forest walk. The numbers of our group changed on the day which didn't faze the friendly team at all. The food was varied and all tasty ..as a group we tried the soup, sandwiches, salad, lasagne, sticky Thai rice, sausages and scampi. Service was excellent...the food all arrived at the same time and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend if you are in the area and we look forward to eating there again

We came to the happy cheese last Thursday a group of 8 of us. Food was amazing lasagna was very tasty 😋 very polite and welcoming staff .. makes a difference when you feel more than just a transaction big shout out to Julie and Daniel for bringing the Guinness to the table when ready saved me waiting ... So I could get back to family get together very pheasant 3 hours 😁 regards Sarah 😊

Excellent service - food delicious and friendly service.

Absolutely lovely place. They have lots of outside seating and two slides for the younger ones, and of course lots of inside seating. Food was amazing !!! And great value for price family of 4 with mains plus puddings and drinks came to £100 .. paid more at harvester for a mediocre meal. Took about 30 mins for food maybe a little more BUT it was busy there with it being a Saturday evening and lots of bookings. We didn't have a dog but it is dog friendly with treats for your 4 legged babies. Staff were great food was great atmosphere great. We really can not wait to go there again. Always have good food and excellent service. We usually cycle there or park up and go for a walk in the woods nearby.

Came in for my birthday lunch with family, all ordered using QR code as directed on table sign. 3 members of our table put in 3 orders as paying separately. Meals were brought out with 15-20 minute gaps between orders (was only 7 mins between first and last order going in) meaning the first meals were completely finished by the time I got mine last. Had to sit there and watch everyone else eat on My birthday. Staff said its because separate orders were put in and need to order at the bar if wanting a table to be brought out together. They need signs on tables to let people know this prior to ordering...or a better system in the kitchen to group table orders together. We were sat on a table with a massive low pendant light which was very warm and awkward, felt like we were in an incubator. Overall food was pretty good but my hunters chicken was dry and rubbery....couldn't eat the chicken itself but the sauce cheese and bacon were nice.

Travellers show up in the area and this particular pub has decided to stop taking bookings for locals. Absolute joke. Response: I’d like to congratulate you on failing across the board, but most of all as a human. You had horses tied up outside your establishment with no water and morons riding head on into traffic up the road half cut. You ought to be ashamed. Some traditions, particularly when they’re causing harm, inviting crime, and disturbing the peace need to disappear.

Been here a few times this year for light lunch and coffee. The service is always friendly and efficient and the food is well priced and presented attractively. It has a 5 star food hygiene rating, and there is plenty of well kept space. Feedback offered privately on a small issue received a prompt response, indicating that customers are genuinely valued.

It was alright. Food was good especially the burgers. However, the experience was a bit tainted due to the manure smell from the surrounding farm areas so we couldn’t bring it to ourselves to eat outside in the sun. Some spots inside the place smelled like a town pub would smell so we picked a spot near the window, as there was also no AC. Windows and doors constantly opened meant flies would be hovering over our food when eating, which would be acceptable if we ate outside. Staff were really attentive and smiley. Plenty of car park space too. I’d come again but maybe a different time of the year.

Amazing speedy service food was exceptional and love the fact you can add/ decline items on the app. Waitress staff were amazing went and got me a dog water bowl without asking. Will def be back

AVOID - ANIMAL ABUSE SYMPATHISERS This pub yearly supports the abuse of gypsy trotters by allowing them to use their facilities during the Cooper Drive. Horses left in heavy harnesses with no food or water after being whipped and beaten all day. You should be ashamed for not turning these people away all in the name of a good days earnings!!

Love this place for meeting family and friends, always have really good meals,however on this occasion the fish and chips were inedible,I ate a few chips and a couple of mouthfuls of fish but the batter was so extremely greasy it made me feel very sick and I just couldn’t eat any more. We were sat outside,We did not get a server come to ask if our meals were ok as we usually do, it was extremely busy as there were a lot of families with their horse and carts.

We are staying nearby for two nights, so pre-booked a Friday evening meal. The place was packed inside and out, in glorious weather. Our meals were out of this world. Superb mains and desserts. The pancakes were a mountain of deliciousness! Lovely atmosphere, friendly.

Booked a table for a Saturday night. Not real idea of how you get seated, ended up having to ask the barman who got someone to come and help. Used the app to order which worked very well, but unfortunately the food took an hour to get to us, I understand it was a Saturday evening but there were still empty tables so I wouldn't like to know how long it would take when it's full. The food however was really good and reasonably priced, and good portions. Drinks were more pricey than other pubs however. One thing I would say is maybe the menu is too big which might've been why it took a long time, to have an Oriental section in a new forest pub just seemed a bit out of place, and less might mean quicker meals? Overall the staff were all lovely, the food tasted great and well priced, just annoying how long it took to get our food.

Only had a drink this time while watching football on my phone, food and service is generally ok here. Its more of a family friendly pub with good ice cream for the kids.

Quick and efficient, although one of the waffles was burnt and half had to be thrown away as too hard to cut.

Our first visit here after a walk with the dogs. Easy order from table by your phone if you prefer. Excellent range of food and excellent quality. Big car park. And also next to another big free car park. With great walks from there. Woukd certainly go again.

Found this pub late into our holiday 😒, had a fantastic meal & desert & just had to return 2 days later 😋. Everything was cooked fresh & to order with pleasant staff.

Ice creams were also amazing, and the red head (sorry didn’t get name) was so sweet! Lovely atmosphere and my little boy loved the slides. 10/10 would recommend!! 😊

Top sandwiches! Popped in to meet family. Haven't been before and just wanted a sandwich. Bacon and Brie, Hunters Chicken and Fish fingers were chosen, and all were great, well filled and fresh. Wouldn't usually write a review about sandwiches, but these stood out. Great job

First time ordering from the Happy Cheese - great food, will order again

Booked a table at The Happy Cheese on a Sunday evening for 6pm, for our wedding anniversary (went on 1st date 28 years ago) Wasn't very impressed that we waited at the podium for 5 minutes before being seated, didn't happen, so had to go to bar and book in, was not informed about wait for food, ordered 2 drinks which were reasonably priced. Whilst at bar overheard someone being told 45 minute wait for food. Taken to our table, polite, friendly staff instructed how to order, (still not told about wait time). Tried ordering through app, signal not great, Whilst waiting asked a server wait time for food, who checked, then came back and told us it was an 1 hour wait for food, at this point we decided to leave and went a few doors down the Takeaway for a Chinese to take home. I must note the The Happy Cheese was probably about half full including tables outside.

Made very welcome at this lovely stopover in our motorhome. No charge if you eat . Lovely walks in the forest and station near by to Bournemouth & London. This pub/ restaurant had an ice cream parlour, coffee shop and even a post office. Shops and take aways beside. Will be back.

Usually enjoy the food here, but had a disappointing meal there on Friday 3rd May, I had the lasagna, which I have had a few times before, it was so bland, literally had no taste to it! The garlic bread wasn't cooked properly neither 😕 Unfortunately no staff came to ask how the meal was. Think it will be some time before I visit again

We often eat here now as my husband has a music quiz here once a month. The food has been superb and the very kind swaps (I’m diabetic) are always no problem and very generous! Last night I had chicken wings which were superb. My favourite chicken cut and hardly ever seen on a menu so I was delighted! I was informed Ashley was the chef so I hope my comments were passed on. All staff are welcoming, efficient, hard working and friendly... well done everyone, keep up your excellent work!

This pub had some of the best staff I have come across - friendly informative welcoming and great with disability awareness (we had a young adult with high needs and is a wheelchair user) The pub was spacious with ramps to upper level of tables. The food was very nice indeed - we did only have sandwiches and chips on this occasion but they were very good quality. We will head back ASAP especially to try thier home made ice cream. Very dog friendly too with blankets treats and towels for use by owners. The car park is fairly small and the pub does get very busy. We will always book from now on. Can't recommend enough.

Had a lovely evening meeting up with my brother and sister in law. Great choice of venue with very extensive menu. All pleased with our food choices. Made even better by the great service from Fiona. Very friendly and smiley and nothing too much trouble. Will definitely be returning.

Lovely food party of 5, salad advertised as served on a bed of 'mixed' leaves. 2 out of the 5 of us ordered salads which came with a huge pile of rocket leaves and no other leaves. Waitress did a check back and asked how the food was and we mentioned the lack of leaves. A manager came over and offered free deserts, extremely warm and helpful service and overall top quality food. Young lad on the ice cream counter was also extremely friendly 😊

Had a great night at the Happy Cheese last week. Ate in the restaurant; my partner was unsure what to pick. Max, our server, was brilliant at helping us choose. The food came quickly and was very nice indeed. Loved being able to top up drinks from our table. Wasn't sure about dessert as we were so full, but Max kindly offered menus. Ended up loving the waffles. Excellent value, fantastic quality and such a good selection in the menu. Definitely going back. The vibe was lovely, and Max made us feel very looked after.

Stayed here for a campervan stop over. Nice quiet car park. Had a pie which was fab and great value, generous servings. Alisha was fab and looked after us, made us outsiders feel welcome. Nice selection of drinks too. Close to near by walks. They also make thier own gelato and doggy gelato.

A great Sunday lunch. We had booked in advance and it was very busy. We were told there was a delay as the kitchen was very busy.. we didn’t have to wait as long as they’d estimated.. and it was worth the wait... the Sunday Roast was lovely ☺️. Will definitely go back 😊

We have had a many a meal from the happy cheese in the venue itself and online but have to say that the ribs I had this time were awfully overcooked and I could not eat them. My husband had the chicken katsu and he loved it. We will eat with them again.

Been here a few times and their desserts are absolutely amazing. They also run pub quiz every Wednesday at 8pm (£1 entry), the quiz is really popular and on the challenging side.

We were most welcomed and particularly must mention Fiona, Rachael and Billy with their service and quality of food. Fiona in particular chatted to us and made us feel special

So yesterday was my birthday and 15 of us went for an evening meal. As always great food and service, and the bill was not bad either. Still highly recommend the Happy Cheese!

Absolutely awful. You’d think that an establishment in the New Forest would be more of a high end experience, but no. The food was cheaply priced for the area to be fair, but then the standards warranted this. The service? Insulting to any paying customer, I’m not sure how the place can survive in this day and age like this. AVOID.

Can’t fault anything. The food came early, still hot, great quality. Will order again.

Nice food but messed up my order 3 times and left me with the wrong food. Very disappointed but it’s usually a nice place to eat. Also some waitresses are very angry.

We were really disappointed with our service and our food at the happy cheese Ashurst. Having booked a table for 4 we arrived on time we ordered our food.we had a long wait and the chicken was awful as was child's pizza. We did complain but the only person to apologise was a young member of staff. Definitely won't be back or recommend it . Senior member of staff not very helpful or happy.

I reserved a table for myself, my son and my parents. When we arrived we were taken to a table with low benches which was not suitable and asked if we could move to another table. Most of the tables in the pub were empty but we were taken to a table by the kitchen which was dirty and had no cutlery. The waitress was not willing to accommodate and did not seem very happy in her job. We ordered 2 hunters chicken, ribs and chicken and pizza and chips. All of our chicken was dry and had a strange taste, the bacon did not look like it had been cooked and the sauce was non existent. It was as though it had all been reheated. My son’s pizza was a Chicago town microwave pizza which was raw. The only person to apologise was the young waitress who delivered our food and it was not her fault. Very bad food and service.
