Stayed here one night in our motorhome. Steve, the landlord, took over the pub in December and the effort he has gone to is noticeable. Good wholesome pub food served pleasantly and promptly. Good beers and a very pleasant host. As we stayed over we had to use the "facilities" and they were spotless. Highly recommended. Only dropped a star for atmosphere because it was nearly empty due to it being a Thursday..... it deserves to be full every night 👍🏻

We visited for the first time today after pre-booking for Sunday dinner. The pub is beautiful and charming, with old beams and a log fire. Not only are they dog-friendly, but they offer a "doggie dinner" on the menu which was a roast dinner. Our pup loved it. Our food was also delicious, hot and plentiful. The staff are polite and friendly. There is a well-kept garden and a car park. The toilets were the cleanest facilities I've ever seen in a pub too. We will certainly be returning.

Dreadful. Turned up after a morning at the seaside with my two hungry small children and asked before we order drinks, can we order food midweek. Answer was an unambiguous yes and we were promptly given menus to peruse while we enjoyed what- as you well know- were expensive soft drinks. We were then told after waiting 10 minutes that food now wouldn't be served as there was an inspector in. No way would we have paid out ridiculous pub prices for lemonade if we weren't eating as we'd have to do it all again somewhere else. Spoiled a lovey day.

Was made to feel like we were a hindrance and not made to feel welcome at all. The guy working there was not asking us to do anything but telling us and with a complete attitude. Very rude. The pictures also show the outside area to be nice and well kept, but was completely overgrown, weeds about 2ft high coming out of mortar on the patio areas and children's climbing frames looked very unsafe with bits missing. The pictures on Google reviews froma few years ago, show it in such a nice condition outside. It's like someone took over who doesn't care about it. It's such a shame as this was a last farewell with our friends on what was a wonderful weekend together. On a plus note, interior of pub was nice and clean and toilets were in decent condition.

The door was finally opened by an extremely sullen young woman who refused to acknowledge our hellos or to smile. We were shocked at her rudeness and felt very uncomfortable. I realise that anyone can have a bad day, but would point out that with an attitude like that, her day and that of the pub manager/owner is unlikely to improve. The pub had no beer on tap. Also, it was cold. The menus were on the wall only, claiming it's homemade. My partner and I cook ourselves at home, so we know how food should taste. We came after a long walk, hungry, but I couldn't finish the food. That's how bad and weirdly smelly it was. And I'd eat a dead horse if I wasn't vegan. The stuff wasn't very welcoming either. We said in the end, we didn't love it (butternut squash wellingtons) and was told they don't normally get complaints. Reviews tell a different story though. I would have recommended this pub plenty of things they could improve but wouldn't recommend to others, unless the staff make more effort in hospitality and cooking.

Well done to the staff who must have been relieved we hadn't walked out. They were lovely and we hope they get back to normal very soon. After all of the Celebrities chefs raising awareness on British cuisine, we have gone all the way backwards. What a disappointment the Crown Stirrup was, I came from Bournemouth to enjoy a good and traditional Sunday Lunch in the New Forrest. Did anyone tell the owner its post COVID so get your garden cleaned up. The place looks closed, and it was quite and the reason could be the food the most disappointing area served by staff that have their trousers hanging around their thighs exposing underpants and buttocks to the customers while they ate. I ordered Whitebait which were as big as sardines, so big they were coated in breadcrumbs and placed on top of the tartare sauce (not freshly made) small side salad no lemon. Whitebait are sprat, small about an inch long coated in milk and seasoned flour served with a vessel of tartare sauce and side of lemon, can have sprinkling of paprika or Cayenne. Oh but the main course was something else, overcooked beef with rubber roasts peas and carrots coated in flavorless packet gravy, glossy and shiny awful, and the red cabbage same watery purple liquid finished off with supermarket horseradish sauce. All through lunch some music blaring through what seemed like a transistor radio. Just when you thought it was safe to venture out for Sunday Lunch there is the Crown Stirrup in Lyndhurst. Close up not good for british pubs and its culinary scene.

Wonderful! So so lovely We did a stop over and ate some wonderful vegan food! Amazing homemade burger :) Super tasty and the vegan desserts were insane ! Would definitely hope for the brownie to have been larger … because of greed but also it’s £7 price tag Bit was amazing still x super tasty fresh and warm served with ice cream ! Lovely surroundings lovely service would recommend

The menu here is just what you want in a pub, classic dishes done very well. I had the pie of the day, (chicken, tarragon and leek), very tasty, served with a lovely creamy mash and vegetables. Followed by a delicious chocolate cheesecake. I was very impressed with the quality of the food and will certainly return. The staff were friendly and provided very good service.

We ate here back in August around 1pm on a Tuesday. It was quiet to start with, but then filled up. We had the roast chicken quarter, burger and duck pancakes starter, followed by chocolate cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding. The desserts were good, but the mains were nothing special.

Fantastic Sunday lunch. We had their homemade pie and veggie wellington. Really tasty proper home cooked food. We live locally and will be going back soon.

What a lovely place for a motorhome stopover. Food was good and the staff behind the bar were very welcoming. Will be back.

Decent facilities and is extremely popular. Occupies two retail spaces, which isn't obvious from the outside, so normally there's enough room. Good quality coffee, and the staff members are very friendly and attentive. It gets busy so the tables are often in need of a clear when it gets busy. Pied a Terre area outside, especially for when the weather is more clement.

Went in for a beer before a curry next door. Frosty reception from staff & customers. Returned to watch football but told was shutting at 10pm despite poster in window stating Wednesday closing was 10:30pm. After our last orders, people arrived & served, others came in with takeaway food. Clearly, non locally are not welcome .

Absolutely fantastic meal, booked ahead as we knew it would be busy due to the great reputation this classic old pub has. A lovely table had been set up in the sunny courtyard, which we sat at after ordering 2 thirst quenching pints of Inches cider (did have a laugh with the bar staff🧐). From the specials board, we shared the garlic Crevettes (didn’t want to be shellfish🤣),…fantastic served with bread to mop up the sumptuous buttery goodness. Having seen the schnitzel go past earlier, my better half decided on that with myself choosing the cod loin from the special board. Both were amazing in all aspects, with special detail taken enabling the seasonal flavours to flourish throughout. Special mention for the black garlic aioli served with the cod 🤤 Absolutely stuffed we had a DJ Steve (private joke:didestive ) of Calvados with the merry landlord, who like myself and girlfriend are allies of the LGBTQ+ community 🏳️‍🌈. I would highly recommend a visit this beautiful pub in the New Forest coastline.
