We were staying here for three nights and had dinner here one night. The food is really very good. My wife had breast of chicken and I had duck leg. Both were good sized portions, my wife's with skinny fries and mine with a good selection of vegetables. The sauce for both meals was really very good indeed. The wine by the glass was also good and reasonably priced. Whilst it, perhaps, lacks some atmosphere, being a hotel dinning room, I think that for the food this place is very underrated.

The food was fine but we felt that salad was being used as a filler on the plate with chips an extra at £4. While we appreciate food prices have increased the prices in some instances are on par with what you would expect in higher end eateries rather than a coffee shop. The service was ok if a bit impersonal. The coffee shop was not warm and it was noticeable that other patrons were keeping jackets and coats on. Having eaten here while visiting over a number of years we left disappointed.

The Facebook, website & justeat all say there are extra delivery charges to deliver outside cockermouth. I tried online and on the app, but the app won’t let you select a delivery address outside cockermouth. You select your order, select your additional village delivery charge, press pay and the app says it doesn’t deliver there. I live in a village specifically listed as being delivered to, for a charge but the app doesn’t let you checkout to the village. Poor show. How are you supposed to order?!

Made appointment the day before to ensure we’d got a table. On arrival first waiter was pleasant and seated ya, he smiled and felt welcoming. Took drinks order. Within seconds of us being seated a second, different waiter appeared wanting us to place our order, we requested he return in a few minutes allowing us to look at the menu. Literally a few minutes later he returned, again, so we placed our order, popadoms and chutney, onion bahjee, and our mains. The popadoms arrived promptly and after seating one the onion bahjee was brought to the table, we did say we wasn’t ready but he just put it on the table and walked away!! This second waiter did not smile, did not listen and appeared put out by us!!! So we decided just to go with it. The mains was also brought seconds after the empty starters was removed, absolutely no chilling for us at the table!!! The mains, chicken Pathia, and the rice and naan was delicious!! The chef was the star of our evening as had the food been as dreadful as the waiter then that would have totally ruined the night!! So thank you chef!! We would recommend solely on the food, but think the second waiter, needs some customer service training!!!

My wife and I went for a trip to Lowther Castle and Gardens with the in-laws, and after such awful weather we decided to travel to Cockermouth to treat ourselves to the excellent Fredricks which we've visited many times before. We started with the seafood platter / selection with a portion of chips for the young one. It's a great selection of items for fish lovers! After, we ordered some lovely main dishes, enough for 3 adults and 2 kids (1 kids meal of pizza and chips!) Lovely meal to end of evening. Will be back when next in the area.

Excellent fruit scones and nice coffee reasonably priced. Staff very friendly and although busy we had speedy service. Dog friendly but not apparent from outside so if not a dog lover don’t worry you won’t be surrounded by mutts. Traditional interior but very well kept.

Service was abysmal, we waited ages to get one portion of fish and chips and one portion of halloumi fries. No smile and greeted with a shout of "What can I get ya?". When we got our wrapped food we came home to find the Halloumi fries swimming in grease and no fish so I paid £13.30 for a (very) small portion of chips and 5 greasy halloumi fries. Total rip off. Avoid at all costs.

Loved having breakfast at this Swedish style cafe. Food was amazing and the place has a great atmosphere and tasteful decor. I was impressed with the porridge, and the breakfast rolls were lovely too.
