Popped in while killing time and stayed a while. Large upstairs much bigger than you first realise. Friendly and modern. Decent prices

Found this great little cocktail bar, which is a former police station in Cockermouth. Friendly bartender who made us feel welcome and created some wonderful cocktails for us. Nice outside seating area in the back and it’s dog friendly too. Would highly recommend.

Great bar with a really good vibe. Dogs welcome even though we didn't take ours. Great selection of drinks and a lovely decor and friendly staff.

We stopped here for a drink after a meal in town and I was drawn in already by the fab decor outside. Although not busy on a Wednesday night, the staff were great and the music made me want to party! The decor inside is also brilliant and I loved how they’ve kept the old police features in too.

We had the absolute pleasure of visiting late one Sunday evening after struggling to find somewhere to eat. Along with my husband and two adult and one teen children and our dog were welcomed with open arms by David, who made us feel welcome and comfortable is the modern, cosy bar, with a great vibe. There was a vast choice of gin, rum and vodka and nothing was too much trouble. He introduced us to some of his speciality rums, and even joined us for a drink, sharing his wealth of knowledge for the local area. Really finished off my husbands birthday on a high and only wished we lived closer to visit more often. Can’t recommend enough. Big shout out to all the staff there!

I would just like to say a very big THANK YOU to the lovely staff at Koppers in Cockermouth. After finishing off my daughters wedding celebrations from previous day we were looking for a last drink and somewhere to have a slice of wedding cake. The staff were amazing!!! I will never forget the vision of the staff walking in a line with the cake on a beautiful stand and carrying plates and cutlery with beaming smiles, nothing was too much trouble and a great night was had by all. A kindness I will never forget, thank you all so much xxx

Koppers is an amazing bar with a great atmosphere, Nikki, Dave and Jess are all fantastic people. It is one of the few bars that staff are down to have a laugh and have a few drinks with. Dave said toe that working there is like one big family and you can really tell because of how easy phone they all are with both eachother and customers. I live roughly 3 hours away and would happily go back to cockermouth just to go back there.

Popped in for a quick drink and ended up staying for about 5! Wonderful space to sit out, staff were lovely and super attentive. Definitely worth a visit!

Visited on 12th June. Firstly not one member of staff wore a face mask. When asked one why not he said he was exempt however that didn't explain for the others. Table service only and the service was very very slow. Only time for 2 drinks in 2.5 hours. Need to speed up the process and follow government guidance. They manage a quick safe service in other establishments. Won't be rushing back. Very disappointed 😞

Where to start…. So, this was the 3rd time we have visited the Lake District as part of our motorbike trip, we are staying in 3 locations over 4 days and tonight is the first night. We booked a table at the castle pub, but visited koppers bar en route, we were greeted by a friendly face who showed us to our table, following that we were served all evening by David who was fabulous. He explained that Covid had presented challenges but they seem to have adapted really well. All evening the service has be superb and we have been made to feel Extremely welcome. People don’t seem to understand the challenges that Covid has brought for licences establishments, but they react to every request, in great spirits, and can’t help enough. Tonight is nearly full and they are managing demand very well. Can’t wait for our next visit.

Waited 30 minutes for a drink still didn’t receive, another couple walked out who hadn’t received theirs. We waited, raised complaint with bar member who was then rude and took our drinks of us. Not really great customer service. Wouldn’t bother again!! Don’t serve cocktails if you don’t have the staff. It wasn’t even busy and had about 3 tables in and still couldn’t keep up!!

This is a bit of a strange review as it was not me and my friends directly affected. But the aggressiveness and completely uncalled for behaviour by one member of staff towards another table has really put me off ever going this place again. A lady politely asked about the drinks taking 30 minutes when they were waiting for a lift and the member of staff spoke to them appallingly. Other tables were also shocked he then took their drinks off them that were full and they went to leave. But couldn’t he blocked them from exiting. I have lived in numerous parts of the country and this was the most bizarre behaviour from a member of staff in a pub that I have ever seen.

Hello, Our day started off really well in cockermouth, staff in other establishments were really friendly and professional as you would expect. This all turned dramatically when faced with one extremely rude gentleman in koppers. We waited more than 30 minutes for a drink, having not been told it would take this long. The lady who delivered our drinks was apologetic, which was fine. However, when the gentleman came to take card payment, he commented that half an hour “wasn’t that long” to wait and was so rude, it was insulting. After telling said Barman it wasn’t acceptable, he proceeded to take our drinks, which were unfinished, telling us, 3 professional women, we were finished. Rising to my feet to exit the establishment immediately, the gentleman stopped at the top of the stairs and stood still for a few minutes, refusing to let me past him to exit, which I am sure would not have happened had this been a table of men. If you are wanting a hassle free, enjoyable drink, please avoid this pub.

Great staff and good outdoor area. Visited in a fairly large group and had a great time. It would be nice if there were some drinks menus but the staff did everything to facilitate.

I booked the venue for my friends baby shower on Friday 28th May at 6pm. Unfortunately the evening did not end as planned as my friend (8 months pregnant) was left in tears, after the group were screamed at and repeatedly told to ‘f*** off and get out’ by one member of your staff. This outburst came after we were trying to work out splitting the bill, we had requested to each pay as we went but were told the staff didn’t have time to do this so we need to set up a tab. There was 8 of us, some drinking, some not, therefore when the bill came everyone just wanted to pay for what they’d had. I don’t think this is an unreasonable request but I have quite honestly never experienced anything like the outburst that came next. Screaming, Swearing and aggressively slamming the bill into the table. Someone with such a volatile temperament should not be working in this customer facing role. Earlier in the evening he had told us he was the chef but ironically refused to cook any food (even though we had been told upon booking that hot platters would be available). I would like to say that the other members of staff were very pleasant and quite clearly mortified by their colleagues behaviour. They did apologise to us but unfortunately this cannot make up for the upset caused. My friends baby shower was completely ruined by a request to split the bill - something that shouldn’t have ever caused an issue ... it may have been just another Friday night for Koppers but this was a special event for my friend, of which the memory will now always be tarnished.

After much hunting around in Cockermouth for somewhere with outside dining (May 2021) we saw an "Open Now" sign outside Koppers. The same sign also directed us around the rear of the building where we assumed the seating area was. We walked up a short alleyway to a timber-clad area with a large gate which was standing open and peered in. At this point, a member of staff appeared and I asked, was it ok to come in for food, to which he replied that they weren't actually open. My wife pointed out that there was a sign on the street outside that said "Open Now", to which he muttered something along the lines of, "Yeah, but the door was shut, which is usually a clue". My review has inevitably been coloured by this exchange, and because the establishment was apparently closed, I cannot comment on the food (or anything else). A word to the wise: nobody likes a smartarse.

Came in here for a few drinks on Boxing day with my friends and what a lovely atmosphere it is, they have a wide selection of Gins which is perfect for me!

Jóvenes camareros entusiastas: nos divertimos mucho viendo cómo se preparaban varios cócteles.Después de tomar una cerveza, noté mi whisky irlandés favorito en el estante, ¡la primera vez que lo vi fuera de Irlanda, así que tuve que tomar un trago como dicen!Gran ambiente aquí. Es bueno ver esto ocupado.

Cuatro de nosotros decidimos probar Koppers para tomar unas copas el sábado por la noche y estoy muy contento de decir que fue mucho mejor que la última vez y una experiencia completamente agradable. El servicio era excelente, estaba ocupado con un ambiente agradable y no tiene una mala relación calidad-precio. La cerveza de barril mejoró mucho desde nuestra última visita y ahora es una buena pinta de Amstel o Moretti. ¡Las damas también disfrutaron de las ginebras Lakes Damson! . No comimos en Koppers, pero había mucha gente y ¿quién sabe tal vez la próxima vez? .

Spent a fantastic evening on Thursday 25th july sitting outside drinking gin and tonic with a fantastic selection of tapas that could be ordered between 5 and 8pm....we were not disappointed...what a fabulous use of the old police station (still have the old blue Police lantern outside)...theres something naughty about drinking in a police station...see you again soon

The best cocktail bar in Cockermouth, been several times, always impressed. Great bar staff who always show attention to detail and a nice atmosphere.

We wanted a light lunch and liked the look of Koppers sunny courtyard. We sat down when a table became free, and sat and waited. After a while, I went inside to ask if I could order and what food was available. I was handed a menu without a word, and I ordered two small draft italian beers, was left to struggle with menu and two glasses to open the heavy door back out into the courtyard. There was nothing on their menu that overly appealed to us, so we kept to the beer and enjoyed the sunshine. The cafe bar was not overly busy, but the staff did not clear the tables or be pro-active about seeking reorders. We wouldn't go back. Although to be fair, it was clean and the toilets sweet smelling.

Dos parejas fuera tomando café. ¡Difícil incluso preguntar dónde estaba nuestro pedido como bar, principalmente desatendido! ! Reproducción de música llena de 'f ** s', etc. - muy ofensivo. La comida está bien, pero Brie sirve muy pequeña. Mucho dinero gastado en este lugar, ¡esperemos que el dinero no se desperdicie! !

Vinimos aquí para tomar una copa el viernes por la noche. Todavía estaba caliente afuera, así que decidimos sentarnos afuera. Las sillas eran lo suficientemente cómodas, pero estaban un poco manchadas por estar afuera. Pedí una botella de diente de león y bardana que a las 2. 50 Pensé que era caro. La única medida de mis amigos de G&T fue 6. 50 que pensé que era aún peor!

This bar has opened since we were last here as a group of friends 3 years ago. It's an old police station that has been not so much restored, as resurrected in a new guise. There are some remaining features, like bars on windows of old cells, behind the bar on the the outside wall. The drinks are well put together, from nice beers, to fancy find by a friendly and knowledgeable bar team, including enthusiastic new starters on the other side of the bar to the clientele. I've rated as 4/5 and expect to see more from this quirky little newcomer to a lovely little town in the North Lakes, only a few miles from the much busier and well known Keswick, and has a lot more of a sedate feel to it, and this friendly bar is for me a good reflection of Cockermouth as a town. We will definitely return here in the future, and will pay Koppers another visit.

Very nice place. Old police building but now a classy joint. Great selection of Gins as everyone wants them right now. Haven't tried the food yet, but I do like sitting in here just chilling out, people seem to love the seats outside too. I prefer the upstairs, well worth a visit.

Saturday evening 8pm, we are looking for a nice place to eat, a place that would welcome 3 adults, and our good looking friendly dog, then we found Koppers, fantastic!

We called in to Koppers on Saturday night for a few drinks and the verdict was split 50:50. The Ladies enjoyed the cocktails especially the Velvet 75 and the Gents. were in agreement that both the draught Amstel and Moretti were awful. The worst pint I have had in a long time actually. This is an expensive place so you expect quality but alas it is lacking. We didn`t try any food so can`t comment. The service was good and the atmosphere was OK. Unless the beer improves I can`t see us returning.

Spent a really cosy December afternoon here, great atmosphere, good prices, friendly staff. Will return and recommend.

Me and my dad came for a weekend in the lakes & we are so glad we found this restaurant! Amazing food & good beers, great gin selection too!! The best Christmas tree I’ve seen this year too! Get yourself here, you won’t regret it!!

First visit and we so happy we find this place. It’s outstanding! The food was fabulous, very tasty with fresh ingredients. Staff was nice. So pleased to find the good quality restaurant. A real treat for our holiday.

We popped into Koppers for a quick snack on a Sunday and were very pleased with our food.

Kopper's do a fantastic justice to their burgers and definitely well above your average burger for taste and assorted fillings.

Me and my wife popped in at lunchtime yesterday and are so glad that we did. Each of us had one of the specials. I had chicken breast stuffed with haggis and wrapped in pancetta which was served with a light sauce and accompanying veg.My wife had cajun pork chop with a lovely fresh salad,coleslaw and a generous helping of the best sweet potato chips I have tasted (yes I did pinch some). Both plates were well presented and cooked perfectly - all this for just £15.I don't know how fare of this quality can be served at such a price,I have paid a lot more for food not of this standard.l would recommend it without hesitation - sadly We live too far away to be regular visitors but will definitely call in when we are next visiting the area.

Came here one Saturday evening with the family on our trip to the Lake District. Luckily managed to fit 10 of us in no bother and that was with us just booking a couple ours prior! We had an under 5 dining with us and a picky teenager but the staff were very friendly and accommodating! I had the vegetarian lasagne which was absolutely delicious! And well presented. Others had the many different burgers on offer which were all very tasty too! Several G&Ts; went down a storm. Definitely would return if across that way again. Well recommended

Stopped in here over the weekend a couple of times for drinks. Very nice atmosphere and staff were spot on.

Staying in Cockermouth overnight, on business and this bar-café had been suggested. Moderately busy at 8-45pm, last Thursday. Pleasant staff, friendly welcome etc. We both chose the 'special' which was a Rib Eye Steak. Well presented, cooked precisely to our individual tastes and it was delicious. [complimented the chef, too.] Had several G&T;'s, from a good selection of Gins. Would certainly recommend "Kopper's" which is located in the 'Police Station', on Main Street !!!

Me and my 2 friends came here Saturday night and the atmosphere was perfect and the gin list was even better the food was perfectly presented and very good price will definitely be back soon.

We had an ample and excellent Sunday lunch here. The food was great and we had 2 under 5s who they were very accommodating for. Would definitely return.

Went in here for some lunch & we were given menus straight away. The waiter took our orders and our drinks came pretty quickly. My husbands glass of coke cost £1.90 and was served in a small glass, that's a first for us!( the size of glass would have held about half a can of coke). It looked rather mean.

Came across the place by accident on the Main Street and decided to have a drink. Ended up trying some of the starters and tapas options which were brilliant! Really enjoyed the visit and will definitely come back!

We called in on hot friday evening, sat in seating area outside front,and enjoyed an amazing rhubarb gin cocktail ,the decor was really modern, the food looked nice so we will try next time we call in.

Although we only called in for a coffee Kopper's Cafe was a pleasant surprise. Lovely coffee served by a delightfully friendly member of staff. The food menu looked really good too but it was a little early for lunch. I'm sure we'll have a meal there, just not this holiday.

We had a delicious meal and the restaurant was stylish with a good atmosphere and friendly staff. The most noticeable thing was the quality of the food though - all our dishes felt like they’d been thoughtfully prepared with good quality ingredients - much better than the identikit gastropub fare that we found elsewhere

I had a steak which was cooked to perfection! While my dad had the lamb koftas! Neither of us could fault the food, it was all beautiful!

Me and my wife had a great meal in fact one off the best I've ever and we've eaten all over the world the tex mex was the show winner for me but my wife had the salmon which she said was melt in mouth cocktails were stunning to and especially the young male waiter who served us.

Koppers is fairly new and is run by a charming young lady who cannot do enough to please. Our meal was so good we returned the following evening just for a desert

We visited here on a day sitting outside with our dog on a really hot day . We only had cake and drinks but these were gorgeous and the staff were so helpful and pleasant. A cheeky look inside when using facilities and absolutely loved the decor ! So tastefully done and so smart ! It’s on our list to return and recommend to friends

We had fabulous food and service at Kopper's yesterday. They went out of their way to do something 'off menu' for our autistic grandson who rated his meal "a perfect million out of ten". Well done and thanks to all at Kopper's.

The food was perfectly OK, but the price is a bit steep for the kind of establishment and location. Nicely done and only recently opened, but feel locals will be a little underwhelmed, especially as the drinks are very pricy compared with other local establishments. Better value will attract more customers to return.

Me and my husband called in today for lunch and we are so glad we choose Koppers over the many other eateries in Cockermouth.

We were a family group with a youngster having an afternoon in Cockermouth. We decided to check out this new spot and we were all impressed the instant we walked in. The decor is well thought out and with plenty of good designs and attention to detail everywhere. No expense spared and a really nice blue colour scheme for this old police station. The staff were all very friendly and went out of their way to please and to accomodate us. After reading the food menu we decided that the food sounded too good to pass up so we asked if they could fit us in. When our plates arrived the food looked amazing, two had the fish and chips, one had the very impressive burger and I had the pie of the day. Everyone found the food to be delicious and perfect, even our youngest member of our group wolfed her chicken up leaving a clean plate. My pie was steak and ale and it was rammed full of good tasty meat and the pastry was equally delicious. I can honestly say it was the nicest pie I have had the delight to eat. This is now our number one spot for either an afternoon or an evening social and we cant wait to go back. I would go as far to say that this is now the smartest looking and best tasting food spot in town.

We’ve recently visited twice at lunchtime and were pretty impressed. Very good steak baguettes were served nicely by pleasant staff. We’ve only been in the downstairs room and it is well turned out, with a quite striking blue paint standing out. Worth a visit,

Just love Cockermouth.Its full of independent businesses.Koppers is in an old Police Station and has been tastefully converted.Slightly disappointed that they didn't have any pulled pork but the reason was they don't usually open on Mondays.Three of our party had homemade soup and I had the cheese board which came with bread,grapes and a lovely pear.

Arrived in Cockermouth for a short break from caring for elderly relative Needed late lunch on a bitterly cold day. Although quiet we received friendly welcome. Shared delicious chicken broth and a pulled pork baguette. Vibrant contemporary but comfortable decor.

Really good home made food. Lovely beef not a cheap cut. And deserts honestly where Home made which is unusual

I was at Koppers yesterday for lunch and was made welcome by a nice girl with blonde hair, she showed my wife and I to a table and give us menus, after 5 minutes we give our order for cheeseboard for starters, quiche and Cumberland pie of the specials, portion of chips and two drinks , when starter come I was very pleased and looked good, my wife said we should look at the evening menu and come along sometime with friends, after finishing our starter our main come and I was surprised, the Cumberland pie was a dry, the pastry I couldn't cut with a knife never mind using my teeth. In the back ground from the kitchen I think world war three had come , the lady who had took our order had left the building and the other waitress was giving someone in the kitchen which I didn't need to hear , I think in this day and age there is other ways to tell staff off , I think she needs training. Getting back to my food I know salt is bad for you but I could have used some on my chips but there was none on the table. Sadly I will not be back( before the chef puts food on the menu he should learn how to cook it first)

We visited on Sunday 18th, 20 minute wait for the young man to come and take our food order, not an extensive menu. Either the glasses are too large for the drinks or you only get a small drink. When the food eventually arrived the plates were freezing cold and the food on them was tepid. We both had roast beef, I left the veg as they were quite mushy and my roast potatoes were a tad on the brown side.

We came to Koppers on New Years eve for a drink. It is only a tiny place so expected it to be heaving but it was actually quite quiet so we were able to get a seat easily. The décor inside is quite quirky, for example, there is a monkey on the wall holding a light! We found that the prices were reasonable and it was a nice touch when they brought us a small tray of bar snacks for free.

We love visiting new places, and trying them out. So gave this place ago one lunch time. Nicely decorated, a little small down stairs, but plenty more seating up stairs. The lunch time menu had a good choice. Friendly and attentive staff.. We had the Gammon, with egg and chips, and he wif had quiche and large salad.. Meals took about 20 mins to arrive, and both satisfying and good value for the price, not massive portions like some pub meals. Spoke to one of the staff at end of meal, had a good chat, and mentioned the place could do with some old pictures of the old police station

Second time visiting with my partner and young family gorgeous food. With a warm welcoming as last time lovely little place

Koppers is a newly opened cafe bar in Cockermouth. The venue has been refurbished well and is modern and contemporary with attention to detail in fixtures and fittings. There is an excellent drinks menu with a wide variety of specialty spirits including flavoured gins and vodkas. We have visited twice, because we really want this new venture to do well as everything is in place for a really enjoyable evening. However, on the two occasions we have visited in the early evening, it just misses the mark because the staff, although keen, are young, inexperienced, lacking in confidence and unable to provide the warm welcome and interaction with the customer that the venue deserves. It may be that the service is better during the day. We hope that the teething issues are ironed out as the venue has great potential.

Went there for the first time and liked it.

We were looking for a place to have a snack lunch and found Koppers Cafe Bar in Cickermouth. This is not a tea room but feels more like a bar which does snacks. It has a rather cold atmosphere, dark colours and shiny surfaces. The food was good and not very expensive. It was quiet on a midweek afternoon in January which is perhaps to be expected. Not the place if you are looking for 'Yea Olde Tea Room' but fine if you want a drink and a snack.

Before Koppers, there was only one cocktail bar to go to and it didn’t take much to over fill. The location is great and the cocktails are delicious! Great value too (2 for £12). The decor is really modern and trendy however it doesn’t really make sense with the name of the bar (Animal themed). Considering the name is Koppers and it’s in an old police station, I assumed the theme would have went along those lines.

We needed sanctuary on a busy new years trip for a bite to eat in Cockermouth with our two Furry friends (dogs).

Called in for lunch with my husband. Being pregnant I fancied something not quite on the menu staff were more than happy to help. Food was lovely and my husband enjoyed a couple of beers they had to offer. Will definitely be going back.

We were spending a day in Cockermouth and called in at Koppers for lunch. We were greeted warmly, and seated and given a menu very efficiently. We both chose the sliced hit roast beef on baguette with onion gravy home-made chips - and what a feast it was! The meat was flavoursome and tender and the baguette very crispy. The chips were delicious! A nice glass of wine helped wash it down. There were other really interesting dishes on the menu - fruity pork curry, frittata, quiche. We were much too full to even contemplate a dessert. The service was friendly and efficient - there was no sign of the problems that other reviewers have commented on. We'll certainly go back.

Visited koppers with my young child. Staff friendly and cheerful; even brought games out for the little one. Ordered rib eye steak. Best steak ive had for a long time highly recommend for any age groups. The inside decor is amazing beautifully presented and a very warm welcoming feel. Cant wait to visit again.

Spent a couple of hours here at the turn of the New Year with some friends. We had a great time, the ambience was fab, great decor, lovely staff and a fab choice of spirits.

Visited for lunch and greeted on entry. Very pleasant and welcoming. Ordered food and delivered very quickly. Fresh and tasty. Lovely decor and somewhere a bit different. Enjoyed our first visit and will certainly return. Much more up market than local pubs but less formal than some restaurants. Ideal for couples night out.

Came to koppers over Christmas beautiful decor inside. Lovely food and presentation of dinner plates; kids meals very cheap and made fresh, well presented. Friendly staff beautiful place will definitely be back.

Visited yesterday for lunch after booking a couple of weeks ago to be told they weren't doing lunches. We were then told they could do us a limited choice of soup and sandwiches plus a couple of mains as they had been let down by the chef, and that our drinks would be on the house.

Only visited for drinks and my impression was beautifully decorated, cramped and extremely overpriced!

We went for lunch and it wasn’t busy but when we first came in we had to clear our own table and wipe it down with a tissue. We thought they would come to wipe it after watching us clear it, but the waitress clearly had zero initiative.

A new place in Cockermouth. A lovely building which is decorated lovely throughout. Had the set Christmas menu which was very nice though the cheesecake finished me off. The base was so heavy and thick, not like a normal cheesecake base. Lovely homemade mince pies. Few things could be improved on...having to ask for fresh cutlery and napkins after being taken away after courses. But overall enjoyed the food. On the down side the drink is so expensive. Everyone on our table commented about the high prices. The only think that came with your gin and tonic was ice.......no lemon, lime, nothing.. With drink these prices you are not going to get many people coming in and just having a few drinks. Get your drink in line with other places and you are on a winner.
