Absolutely fantastic place for a special meal or celebration. One of the best, if not the best, restaurants I have visited. The staff were great, making us feel comfortable and welcome, and the manager made a point of chatting to everyone in the room, which I have never seen before. The fillet steak was cooked perfectly. The gooseberry fool was light and delicious. Would definitely dine here again. Highly recommended!

Booked this restaurant for our 30th Wedding Anniversary and made an excellent choice. Food and service very good and staff attentive without being overbearing. Considering the recent awards this restaurant has the prices were more than reasonable too.

Fast and efficient service from what appears to be a fixed menu. Stayed for three nights and ate in the restaurant for the whole of our stay. Mostly good but experienced chewy lamb, cold plates and only mediocre breakfasts (poor, strangely cooked bacon) ..... oh yes and a 250 ml of Sauvignon Blanc for £10.25 !!

Had dinner here as part of our hotel deal and I personally loved the food here. Had seared scallops as a starter followed by pan fried salmon and then a milk and white chocolate mousse. The dishes were creative, packed with flavour and not too filling. My vegetarian partner was not as impressed due to others with her main. She ordered a goats cheese and red pepper tart, but received a red pepper quiche. Had to wait quite a while for a new dish to be made. The service could definitely have been more attentive throughout as at times it was difficult to see a waitress and then to attract their attention. My review on balance is a 4, but my partner, if reviewing, would have scored it lower.

Had a nice dinner out with friends. Came here as they wanted a good venue. Advertised as rosetta star restaurant. The food was very good but for the price the service should have been more attentive. We had to ask for another bottle of wine and had to take the bill to be paid. Only minor but expected at this level. Food was lovely, I can recommend the salmon and the wood pigeon starter was good as well.

I stayed at the Troat Hotel and as part of the deal we got dinner and breakfast at this wonderful restaurant. The staff are so attentive and although we were only there for one night and the morning the waitress remembered out name and put us on the same table which was a nice touch. The evening meal was amazing, came with canapes and chilli bread before the starter , I had the smoked salmon, filet of brill and pear tart and they were sooo goid and a good sized portion and my partner bad the pigeon, sirloin steak and chocolate mousse , if we had to pay for this it would of been £80 so the fact we got it as part of the hotel package as well as coffees was amazing!!! Breakfast was of a really good quality and the hot elements were made to order which was a nice touch rather than buffet style. A brilliant restaurant that is worth a visit.

Had a really lovely dinner here over Easter, made even better by the free cocktails each as part of an Easter offer - a very nice surprise indeed! Food was delicious and service friendly. Only odd thing we noticed is that we weren't ever offered any water for the table! But otherwise a really lovely restaurant and dinner.

The Derwent Restaurant has a modern new look and I like it. The menu is much shorter than before and showcases straightforward dishes which are beautifully cooked. Service was, as always, exceptional and everyone is so friendly. I am delighted to see The Trout back in business. We will be back!

We enjoyed a relaxed dinner in the Derwent restaurant the other evening. We have been there several times before and always have had good food and service. It's not the cheapest in Cockermouth but the quality of the cooking is always excellent. The three of us chose from the short menu so felt we had good value, quality local ingredients which were beautifully cooked. We look forward to our next visit to Cockermouth and the Derwent Restaurant.

Had Breakfast here which was really nice and consisted of a Continental style buffet breakfast reinforced with a full English if you wanted it. Both excellent and the service, environment and 'homely' feel to this Hotel went down a treat!

My wife and I had dinner at the Derwent Restaurant for Valentine's Day. I found it strange that they had us sit in the pub like area first to order our food. I'm sure our table was ready and I would have preferred to sit in the formal dining room and order instead of a noisy area. But the selection of food was nice and everything I had was delicious. Service was good with one exception, when I purchase an expensive bottle of champagne I shouldn't have to pour my own glass. But all in all, an enjoyable dinner.

Came here as a large family party for Sunday lunch. It was extremely poor. The vegetables were cold and overcooked, yorkshire's rock hard and beef tough. I did complain and was given a discount which at least was a recognition that something had gone horribly wrong at the kitchen end, but I would struggle to recommend it for an important event

Really good sized portions, if you like meat try the Steak, Meat feast or the Beef Strogonoff. Alternatively, the fish was just as good. Loved the fact that we were able to eat in the restaurant from the bar menu which ensured plenty of choice over the Xmas period.

We went mid- week to take advantage of the £10 for 2 courses meal offer. For a country town hotel the restaurant was gorgeous. The service was impeccably welcoming and the menu nicely varied. The wine at £12 per bottle was surprisingly good. I had the terrine and pheasant, unfortunately both were lacking in much flavour and this reduces the whole marking to only average. The pheasant plate was however nicely presented. The coffee was hot, plentiful and tasty. The bill totalled at £37.50 for two. All in all we had a good evening and will definitely return.

Poor service when a piece of plastic was found in food. Instead of an apology, I was given a cock and bull story. Honesty is always the best policy, along with an apology.

Good choice of breakfast dishes all served at the correct temperature. Dinner choices can seem a little too fancy for the elderly palette but encourage one to be adventurous on occasions and do not disappoint

Fantastic selection of well presetn, well cooked food. Portion size was not compromised for presentation... both met requirements. Lots of attentive staff in a well cared for, bright dining room. Wouldnt feel overdressed coming here in your glad rags, but also not frowned upon in your slacks.

A traditional restaurant, with white crips tablecloths takes some beating in my opinion, especially when the menu offers a good choice and the food is well preparaed using very fresh local produce. Not too expensive either. We stayed at the hotel for the weekend on a dinner bed and breakfast package and there was sufficent variety for us to make some really good choices for 3 nights, although, a week might have been a different story. Highly recommend this restaurant if you are visiting Cockermouth.

Perfect stop for a coffee break - the view over the lake with bird feeders in front was great. The chairs in the lounge were very comfortable - best decaf coffee I have had. Looked at the menu and it was a shame that only a coffee stop. Did have a taste of the local beers!!

Walked from Keswick centre to Nichol End Marina. A lovely walk but was glad when I arrived at the marina cafe. Roger (jolly Roger) welcomed me in and was so helpful and friendly. It was quiet as the season is coming to an end. I had an oat milk coffee and a raisin sticky toffee scone. It was so big! Put half in a bag to take home. Plenty of choice of scones all fresh and looking delicious. Prices were so reasonable. Roger then gave me a ride in his boat across Derwent Water. He’s such a nice man. It made my day to find a gem of a place. Would def recommend if in the area. Will return and try out the boating/canoeing etc next year.

The best dog friendly cafe in the lakes. Gorgeous food and the warmest welcome. This is our go to place when walking in the north lakes. All of the food always hits the spot but the cakes are just gorgeous!
