We head to Caldbeck couple times of the year to do the Easter Egg Hunt and Christmas Elf Hunt with our daughter. We always head to The Oddfellows Arms for lunch once we've finished the hunts for lunch and never fails to deliver. I had the all day breakfast and is as good as you'll get. See you at Easter...

What a pleasure and privilege it is to have James and Emma running our local pub. From the service (major call-outs to Emma, Aiden, Lottie, Mark and all the other serving crew!) to the incredible food (James and team, you know who you are) to the overall vibe, The Oddfellows Arms in Caldbeck is a treasure of a local. James uses imported spices to make the freshest curries, and it shows — I was so surprised when I first tried them to find out that they were fresher than anywhere I’ve tried in London, and easily on par for taste! Sunday roasts are a treat, and I’ve really falling for the pork belly recently! Also, James and the kitchen team will regularly do special events, like Indian night, Asian night etc, which are always so special and like traveling internationally without the airfare. Thank you, Oddfellows Arms Caldbeck!

Evening meal. This is what I'd call a proper gastro pub. All the food is made in the kitchen. The classics but done with the taste of fine dining, and the hearty portion size to satisfy a hungry pair of walkers after a big day on the fells. A choice of five or six cask ales. The one I had was delicious. I had a beef and ale pie. Definitely the best I've had... Big chunks of meltingly soft 12 hour braised beef in ale, with proper short crust pastry underneath and on top. Great double cooked chips and nicely cooked veg, and plenty of gravy. My wife had a curry that was also really well made. Too full for more than a shared ice cream (marshmallow and dark chocolate soil). Don't hesitate to eat here... Definitely recommended.

Visited this weekend and celebrated my birthday with a meal and drinks on Friday evening. Lovely village pub, food was good and great range of drinks which included a good choice of cask ales. Great to see a village pub doing so well. Only slight downside is that the small bar area in which you're able to get served is frequented by the regulars so it's sometimes a challenge to get near the bar, that being said it's not unusual for this to happen in locals pubs.

Stopped off yesterday for dinner after a hard day's walking. Staff were great, food was beautiful. Tasty, well presented and good value. Definitely recommend. We'll be back Further to this review, we visited again today and it was abysmal. The service was extremely slow and unfriendly, the food was very average and to top it all, when I saw my drinks glass in the light, it was filthy as was my daughter's and husband's. I couldn't finish the drink 🤮 I was really looking forward to another visit, but we left feeling very disappointed and sadly will not be returning

Always our eatery of choice when we are staying in the area, this time we managed to fit in two visits. Went for lunch on a very wet Tuesday and found the pub and staff very welcoming and busy. Had booked a table and were shown to a reserved table by a very welcoming blazing fire. We were selected from a wide menu and our meals brought very promptly. Very tasty and plenty of it. Spoke to a couple who were staying for a few days there and heartily recommended it, clean and comfortable. We have booked a room there next year and were doing a check and will definitely go and eat there too. Leighton helpful with food service and drinks and as the manager very friendly and helpful. Recommend the pub for a drink and or a meal after a wet walk or on a sunny day!

Frequented the Oddfellows over the bank holiday weekend whilst visiting the lakes with some friends. It's a warm, cosy feeling pub which also had a nice atmosphere each time we visited. The pool table and dart board provide great entertainment and the bar staff are generally very friendly and accomodating. I felt the Oddfellows fell short only due to it's value for money. Beers aren't cheap (£5-6.50 for most), at least where I'm from anyway and the food is also quite pricey per dish, with the quality being just okay in my opinion. We had a large meal one night during our stay with a range of dishes. Most felt that it was just okay but quite underwhelming given previous reviews we had read. I had the rigatoni bologneise which was just under £16 and one of the cheaper options off the main menu. The portion size was generous, but the flavour was slightly lacking. I'm not sure if the prices here just reflect a sign of the times but I personally wouln't choose to eat here again for dinner, with Keswick and other options available nearby. Aside from my small gripe with prices, overall it's a decent pub which we enjoyed during our stay. If you're staying in Caldbeck it's worth the visit for sure.

The Oddfellows Inn in Caldbeck is an absolute gem! After a grueling walk from Keswick, we arrived, only to find that the kitchen had just closed. My friend, whose love of snacks is, let's say, quite evident in his physique, was visibly distraught at the thought of missing a meal. Sensing his "emergency," the wonderful staff fired up the kitchen and whipped up a delicious feast just for us. We also inquired about breakfast, which is usually for residents only. But once again, they saw the potential disaster in denying my friend his morning fuel and kindly handed us the breakfast menu, booking us in for the next day. The staff (Ness and Bill and everyone else!) couldn't have been friendlier, and they handled everything with a smile (and possibly a bit of concern for my friend’s well-being!). We’ll definitely be back and look to stay over next time!!!

Visited this pub for the first time last Friday on our way back from Keswick and what a disappointment it was. We arrived around 2pm in the afternoon where it was relatively quiet, we got seated in the bar. The waitress serving us was miserable and you could tell she didn't want to be there. They were missing quite a few items on the menu which was disappointing, as someone who is a vegetarian there was very little I could have as a result of this. I ended up getting the falafel burger and my husband got the cosy Shrimps. The fries were cold and tasteless, the salad was full of brown lettuce and my falafel was also cold and had no colour to it. The quality of the food is lacking and attention to detail isn't there. Will not be back!!

Do not eat here if you have allergies. Before we receive a reply like other reviews suggesting it is an Oddfellows elsewhere in Cumbria, yes this is the one in Caldbeck. And odd is right. We visited on Sunday 21 July at 6:15pm - though didn't get our food until almost 8:30pm. There were 9 of us, but it is just pub grub....The service was okay, not very attentive from certain staff, but this wasn't a big deal to us. The food was extremely slow but we were happy when it arrived. Two of our group ordered 12 pieces of scampi with chilli and garlic glaze which cost extra. They received 11 pieces of plain non-glazed scampi. There was just one option for vegan food (a burger...) and two vegans ordered these burgers which were served with dairy coleslaw. They were not made aware of this until they asked....even though dairy is an allergen, which is concerning. To top it all off, despite informing the server at the beginning of the visit of my shellfish allergy, cross-contamination occurred in the kitchen and I had an allergic reaction. I was patronised and told that I could put my mind at ease because they're very good with allergens in the kitchen here....I was mid allergic reaction at the time.....Anyway they clearly realised this and took off the price of my food and added a small discount to the bill so that £23 was taken off of the £160 bill in total....as a "solution" to potentially giving three people an allergic reaction and succeeding in one case....SHOCKING. One star is generous.

Very nice pub/inn. Lovely, cozy carpet. Two fireplaces (they were not lit, but I’d love to return when they are). Good ales, good food. I stayed one night (room 11). The room was lovely and spacious, service great. Ale a bit dear (£6.25) and judging by old menu photos, prices seem to have gone up considerably. Still, I had a great time. I had the dopiaza which was divine and a rather wonderful bean starter which I can't remember the name of. The service every day was impeccable, especially from the owner, shame we did not catch the ladies name, she was fantastic! The place itself was a beautiful, charismatic building with a solid mixture of country pub vibes to high quality restaurant feels in the back. Beer garden also lovely with plenty of space. We visited with 2 young children who both could not get enough of the place! Food was top notch (recommendation - Ask what the steak is and if it's the 10oz Sirloin... don't ask questions, order it and thank me later!) Compliments to the chefs! Lovely historical pub, took my visiting friend for dinner after a little walk up the Cumbria way to clear our heads Saturday gone ....always a nice little pitstop after a walk I had the fish and chips he had the burger , great portions when they came...we did have a wait for them I've gotta say and as someone said the batter on the fish was inconsistent, nice and crispy in places then thick in others it was stodgy soft probably not cooked through the batter.. It wasn't cheap had it been I probably wouldn't have mentioned it tbf but when things are these pricey as they are now they need to be virtually spot on I think. The fish itself was lovely though, the 2 young girls on the bar were lovely and attentive. The pub as always has lovely charm in a stunning location , will be back with family the main dining are for evenings is a stunning room..Thank you all.

Had to park on the main road. Staff were too quick to serve you. Bit stressful. Food was very 🧂 salty and not Cheap. Didn't ruin the experience though and the dog was super chilled.. 🌞

The best dog friendly cafe in the lakes. Gorgeous food and the warmest welcome. This is our go to place when walking in the north lakes. All of the food always hits the spot but the cakes are just gorgeous!

Lovely afternoon tea, highly recommended. Atmosphere was so friendly too. Well worth a visit for one of their cups of tea, a secret blend that is delicious.

Thought we would give this place a try as we saw it when coming back from Lodore Falls a few weeks ago and thought location was good. Booked Sunday lunch for 2 adults and 2 teenagers as a pre-Christmas family lunch out. On arrival no one greeted us and we waited in line at the bar to be told, not shown to, which one our table was and to come back to the bar to order. This is fine but at hotel restaurant I would expect staff to come and take our order - main course Sunday lunch £24.95, burgers the kids had £21.95 so not cheap. Inn on the Lake Glenridding for example is less expensive and far superior in location, class, service and food quality. I ordered roast beef and when it arrived I actually got lamb - no problem mistakes happen - but it did mean i had to wait for it to be replaced whilst the rest of my family ate their meals. When beef arrived it was dried out, as if heated under a grill. No one checked on us during the meal but asked if everything was ok when they came to clear. I told them my beef wasn't great - half of it uneaten - and they said i should have told them and they would have replaced. Fine, but bearing in mind i had already waited for it to be replaced once and eaten after others had finished i didn't really want to go for round 3. My meal was removed from the bill but the experience for a family lunch out was spoilt. We were in the restaurant area that doesn't allow dogs but close to the open doors to the dog friendly area - I love dogs but the smell coming through wasn't pleasant from time to time, especially when eating. Generally i think it is expensive and disappointing for what it is, pub type service and food at restaurant prices. £9.50 for puddings for example is excessive for the environment. A shame as location is great to stop for lunch if walking around Derwentwater but I wouldn't recommend based on pour experience today. As a final comment the staff did seem genuinely apologetic.

I visited Oilys with family and just after the meals were served my brother had taken ill. One member of staff in particular was so helpful and attentive. Part way through the meal we had to leave to take my brother home and the same lady offered to box up all our meals for us as we had only started. Excellent service. The meals were delicious and it is just a shame we had to leave early. Luckily my brother is okay and we will have to go back sometime for a better experience.
