This place was recommended by my dad and his gf who live in Cockermounth when we visited them recently. The food is excellent (many veggie options for me) and there's a great buzzy, dog-friendly atmosphere. This weekend, I wanted to get my dad's gf something nice for her birthday so I emailed them to see if they do vouchers. They don't but Henry emailed back within 10 mins, offering to hand-deliver a handwritten voucher on her birthday which really made her day! This is a lovely local small local business that stands out from other places we've visited in Cockermouth.

They were fairly busy (our favourite cafe up the road was closed) but I have never had to wait over 20 minutes for a cup of coffee and tea before. Plus another 5 minutes for a spoon each. Apologies were given but it wouldn't encourage me to return.

Loved having breakfast at this Swedish style cafe. Food was amazing and the place has a great atmosphere and tasteful decor. I was impressed with the porridge, and the breakfast rolls were lovely too.

It's really disappointing that this once pleasant "Scandinavian influenced" eatery has gone so rapidly downhill. From a smiling, efficient front of house its now just a desultory nod, from an interesting menu to a very ordinary one, from careful garnishes to what look like supermarket leaves tossed on a plate, its all a bit sad. Of course its superb location means that it will stay busy, but not for the right reasons.

Visited with my Dad at the weekend. Ordered our food and a coffee. The waitress must have not heard my dad order a coffee so it didn't arrive. They apologised and brought one over straight away once we had mentioned it. They didn't charge us for it which I thought was so nice. The food was absolutely beautiful and a good portion size. I ordered the salmon bagel which came with a lovely side salad and slaw and my dad ordered the salad which was served in a huge bowl with walnuts and feta and avocado. Fika are dog friendly and even leave a jar of dog treats so you can help yourself. I will be a regular now.

Visited recently and sat by the kitchen. Mistake number one, constant draft from swing door. Food arrived looking very good, however poached eggs overdone, hard in middle and mushrooms (3 small for an extra £1.59) were very dry and looked old. Not the best I'm afraid

Really like Fika, but there's one female member of staff who needs to be less brusque. Went to order food expected to be met with "what would you like to order today, please?" with absolutely nothing... Didn't say anything for a while to give her the opportunity to ask, but nothing.... it was Saturday morning at 9am, concentrate on your job rather than raking to your colleague. Please brush up on customer service skills, the food is great, just small details.....

Popped in for a bite to eat on the way back from Whitehaven. I just had a drink my daughter had food. For what we had it was a bit overpriced and one female staff member was very unfriendly and abrupt. Based on that I would not be back as there are too many nice places in Cockermouth that we normally go to but thought we’d give Fika a go.

Waited a good few minutes to be told “we’re not serving food at the moment” - no explanation given and other tables were being served food. I left feeling that it was because I was by myself. Was really looking forward to my Reuben but hey ho the Chicken Shawarma across the road at M’s was fab and I was welcomed.

Start to finish our small intimate wedding dinner was incredible, from my initial contact the team at Fika were amazing! Accomodating an earlier opening time, offering us a private dining experience with tailored food for our pescatarian needs. The food was incredible, everyone enjoyed their meals and couldn't stop saying how delicious it was! Gorgeously presented flavoursome food in a beautiful relaxed setting. We couldn't have asked for a better experience

If you love quality food, you will love Fika. The food was amazing and beautifully presented, without doubt the best place for food in Cockermouth. Yes its a bit more expensive than other local restaurants but you get what you pay for. The setting is quirky, low level lighting and candles and the service was attentive. There were only 4 tables booked (Fika is not big) so it still had a lovely cosy atmosphere - was disappointing to see this was not fully booked as it was worth every penny. Will definately be back. For an idea of prices Brie starter £8 Venison £27 Sticky toffee pudding £8 Bottle of Chile Merlot £22

Really lovely food and drinks. Different to what you can get elsewhere I had the raspberry and mango smoothie and the corn fritters with halloumi. They let me swap out the poached eggs for scrambled no problem and it was so tasty. I also had a pumpkin spice latte which was lovely to be able to get all year round. Staff were pleasant and food and drink came quickly. Far superior to the likes of Starbucks which is filthy and unfriendly. Please support these local gems instead.

Enjoyed breakfast, though the lass who served us was quite abrupt in her manner, to the point that both of us said it felt we were being told off - especially when asked "you finished with that teapot?!" There's ways and means to ask and you were serving grown adults, not kids. Decent breakfast, just sort the clutter around the alcove towards the back of the cafe.

This used to be Merienda, but has changed ownership and become Fika. I decided to have a look and try one of their interesting looking meals, which looked different to normal lunchtime fare. I settled on the Fika Brunch, which is hot smoked salmon, hummus, melba toast, spinach and poached eggs. Quite an interesting mixture and while the portions could have been bigger, it tasted very nice and at £12, not too bad these days. Also the staff were friendly and the service was good. Apart from their unique daytime menu, Fika sell a good range of craft beers and sell a large variety of cakes at the till. I think this cafe is a worthy successor to the popular Merienda.

Food is excellent, in fact the only thing I would say is next time I will go without a starter so I can try a dessert! Staff cannot do enough for you, warm, welcoming and nothing is too much. The atmosphere is pleasant and the way the dinning rooms are laid out is great it can be intimate or it can be more involved. Bought a BLT and ham salad sandwich. The bacon in the BLT was hardly cooked, very fatty. Almost broke my tooth on something in the sandwich, must of been a stone in the salad. Very expensive for what you get. The brownie was good though. Would recommend going elsewhere
