I used to frequent this place without incident by myself. the younger staff are great but the older staff look down their noses at me and my daughter Saskia. Saskia has extra needs her food needs to be cut up small to prevent choking and she has mayo with everything. They have small sachets and they begrudgingly give more than 2 sachets. The staff were overheard slagging me off in the kitchen regarding said mayo sachets on our last visit. They rolled their eyes when I asked for crusts to be removed. I didn’t dare ask for food to be cut up small too!. In short I said I wouldn’t be back and one lady said that it was a good idea that I didn’t! Disgusting!

Lovely selection on the menu from breakfasts and light lunches to afternoon tea. Everything is freshly prepared and served very quickly which was great as we had limited parking on the street . We took cakes and scones out for later as we were too full after our delicious fresh ham salads. All the meals can be eaten in or take out and also tables can be booked. Lovely staff and dog friendly too, with a relaxing patio for outdoor dining in summer, there's a lovely atmosphere in this quaint and bright little gem of a place ....definitely our 'go to'place when were in Cockermouth.

We came across this lovely restaurant while on a day trip to Cockermouth. It was well laid out, with a space for more privacy too. We had a simple meal of jacket potato with garlic mushrooms, it was delicious! We were both so impressed. The staff were polite and we were seated immediately. Their choice of deserts were so good it was difficult to choose which one to have! We settled in cheesecake, home-made and it was so good. We have made a note to return when we visit Cockermouth again

On our yearly visit to the lakes this lovely cafe is first on our list whilst in Cockermouth & on this visit did not disappoint. We had a pot of tea,a latte, scone with butter, jam & cream ,hubby had the carrot cake, both food & drink up to their usual high standard. Lovely friendly staff who worked so hard as it was a busy day but never lost their smiles. My friend and I went here for a lunch. We ordered jacket potatoes. They were hardly bigger than a boiled egg! Such a miserly size. I asked for beans, cheese and coleslaw. My potato came swimming in watery baked beans, the tiniest amount of cheese and coleslaw. My friend had a tiny potato with cheese and sachets of mayo. The quality of the food was cheap: Hard rough skinned and overcooked beans. Have you heard of Heinz? Cheap cash and carry mayo. Overcooked dried out potatoes. The waitress could see we had left most of our food and she asked if everything was ok. I replied No and explained. She looked shocked and flustered. She offered no apology. At the till the lady/owner looked equally embarrassed but offered no apology just took payment in full. Appalling customer service. A cheap café masquerading as a quality tearoom. Avoid if you want a decent meal.

We are lucky to visit the northern lakes at least once a year and always include a half day in Cockermouth....and that always includes a trip to Beatfords. This place clearly has a loyal patronage from locals. And I can well understand why some tourists might not like it; its old-fashioned, dated and its been a long time since some money was spent on it....... but we love it. The food is great. I love one of their salads and my other half loves their Lemon Meringue which they kindly serve with 2 spoons ;) Appreciated the outdoor seating when we visited this last July.

Staff very friendly overall, however the cleanliness totally let the place down. The carpet was in desperate need of a deep clean, the fabric on the chairs was dirty with hair & debris, I also cannot put into words how revolting the toilet was! The soap dispenser was empty, pubic hair, urine and toilet tissue on the toilet in the gentleman’s lavatory. There was a bottle of hand sanitiser on the table outside of the toilet, however, I do not expect this level of cleanliness in the mist of a global pandemic. The food and service was pleasant, but because of the cleanliness I would not recommend.

Whilst visiting the area I thought I’d have a quick bite to eat here. From its appearance outside I thought it appeared to be a nice quaint little tea room with an appealing cake selection at the front counter. Inside the premises I found it to be very dated and bland. Tables are separated using temporary dividers due to COVID restrictions and are appropriately spaced. Cleanliness wise, the tables and the seats weren’t great and the curtains had a layer of dust on them. A deep clean is really needed. The toilets were satisfactory however there was no soap in the male toilets but there was some hand sanitizer in the communal area outside. The menu seemed quite limited to sandwiches, breakfast menus and toasties. Unsure if this is the norm here but I would have preferred wider selection. Having chosen a toasted sandwich I was quite underwhelmed to say the least. I was disappointed to find that it had just been cooked in a household toastie machine using plain ingredients. Again the cake I chose looked better than it tasted however it wasn’t too bad. Staffing wise I don’t have too many complaints however I feel a little more organisation wouldn’t go amiss as I had three different waitresses during my meal with one forgetting my cutlery. I thought it was quite expensive for what I actually had especially when the food lacked quality and the cleanliness/ condition of the premises.

I can't fault Beatfords for service, their COVID 19 precautions( having the menus under glass table covers and hand sanitisers on the way in and out), but £ 5.40 for scrambled eggs on toast is on the high side, considering some cafes can offer you a full meal for this amount of money. However, this was balanced out by the reasonable price for a mug of coffee, at £ 1.95, and the quality was acceptable.Beatfords is OK if you fancy a coffee or tea, as it's located next to Sainsburys and Cockermouth Main St, but is pricey for lunch and sandwiches, and there are cheaper alternatives in the town.

We came here Friday and we were not told that the machine was broken, we asked for a latte and a cappuccino and I watched the lady pour filter coffee into my latte and cappuccino instead of espresso, I then asked the lady when she came over if this was filter which they replied yes and that their machine was broken, I paid the full price, didn’t drink them and left, therefore I am writing this review for the other people who come in expecting a coffee from an espresso machine as this is not what you would get.

I came here with a friend for late breakfast / early lunch. I had a toasted teacake with rum butter and my favourite coffee ever - Café Vienna. The service, food and drink was all good and the prices are cheap. Will return soon.

Doing a bit of site seeing on a wet day found ourselves in Cockermouth and came across Beatfords at lunchtime so popped in. It has a good range of food and cake, I had a beef salad which was good and reasonably priced.

We came here for lunch one day during the week. It wasn’t really at lunch time, probably about 1.30pm so we missed the lunchtime rush. Our order was taken quickly but it took a while for the order to arrive. They admitted that the order had been missed in the kitchen. They were very apologetic and to be honest we weren’t bothered at all. I ordered my usual - the Café Vienna coffee and Garlic Mushrooms (it’s a starter but I have it as a main). The garlic mushrooms are the best I’ve ever had. The prices are very reasonable. We will return here for lunch sometime soon.

I love going here just for the cafe vienna coffee - it is beautiful! Made even better on this visit due to the lovely festive cups (that's probably just me being overly festive though). We ordered food too, which took rather a long time to arrive. It turned out the lady who'd taken our order had forgot all about actually putting it through until she saw us still sat there and wondered why we didn't have any food. It was very good when it did come though - I had jacket potato with garlic mushrooms and bacon...and a LOT (far too much) of salad. I remembered when it arrived though that I'd had this previously and had meant to not get it again. The reason being, I ordered it because my friend usually has the starter garlic mushrooms as a main (which she did on this trip too) and it looks amazing, but the garlic mushrooms on the potato aren't the same, which I'd forgotten until it came. There's absolutely nothing wrong with them, it was really tasty - but the ones she gets are in a creamy sauce that looks amazing, and the ones on the potato aren't. Hopefully I'll remember next time to just get the mushrooms.

On first impression, this establishment is a timewarp back to the late 80's which would be quaint & charming if it wasn't so grubby... there were foodie bits all over the carpet and hairs on all of the chair seats (which at first glace, looked like white cat hairs). It has been a while since someone took a vacuum cleaner to the place. The cakes in the display looked nice from far but were dry and old... perhaps also from the 80's (tongue in cheek)I enquired politely about the coffee by asking if the cappuccino was made with espresso (my favourite and quite frankly, the only way to make a good cappuccino especially at the price they were asking). I was answered a little too curtly and with such attitude (disdain & condescending facial expressions) that I decided to only order a much-anticipated coffee and leave asap. The coffee arrived with powdered cocoa/hot chocolate flung across it and all over the rim, handle & saucer. More importantly, it was absolutely awful, it tasted toxic & bleachy. I can only imagine that their equipment or supplies were contaminated with cleaning products or the water used is unfit for consumption. Who knows; I didn't ask... I paid & left. I will not return.

Smallish cafe, but extra front patio seating is useful in good weather. Does all the things you'd expect of a small catering establishment, with a focus on local ingredients and freshly prepared items. Great stop for walkers just off the high street in Cockermouth, if driving the car park to the rear serving Wilko's is cheap - unlike some Cumbrian towns.

Usually one of our favourite places to eat in Cockermouth but sadly yesterday's visit left us disappointed, we chose the Loweswater Afternoon tea which we have had many times before however on this occasion we noticed a few changes, it used to come with 4 quarter sandwiches, 1 scone, and a selection of 4 cakes, with a large pot of tea for 2 and hot water, now although the price remains the same it's a selection of 3 cakes and only 1 small pot of tea even though the rest would be far too much for one person to eat! This ment buying another pot for each additional person, on top of that yesterday's service left a lot to be desired, we sat outside as the weather was nice and although the cake stand arrived fairly quickly we waited 20 mins for the pots of tea which I had to go in to ask for, although 2 pots came with only one tiny jug of milk and I had to venture in again when it became apparent that they weren't bringing any sugar...disappointing end to what was to be a treat for my youngest daughter

I came here for my lunch with a friend a couple of weeks ago. I ordered the garlic mushrooms and she ordered the garlic mushrooms & bacon on a jacket potato. We both order the Café Vienna (this is an amazing coffee). My garlic mushrooms were very nice but we were expecting the mushrooms on the potato to be the same as the ones in my dish (creamy) with bacon in - they weren’t. The potato just contains fried mushrooms, bacon & onions which weren’t really garlicky. She enjoyed it all the same though. A nice little traditional café which offers excellent value for money and is always busy at lunchtime.

Sometimes one small detail can tell you everything you need to know about a cafe. Is this place well run? Will my food be handles in a clean hygienic way? Do the owns actually care? The one detail I refer to in this case is the table number card in the photo. This card was between the table cloth and the glass table top. If the owners are happy with this table number, ask yourself what else they will be happy with.

Our first visit to Cockermouth we found this tearoom down a side alley off the main street. it was busy and some tables were reserved so we obviously were not the first visitors to discover its good food. Table service, the staff were very pleasent and the sandwiches did not take long. The ham was in mine was cut off the bone and superb the granary bread soft and tasty, pots of tea and delicious cakes. Highly recommend

We stayed here for 2 nights and I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The rooms are large, bright with some spectacular views and those special touches such as little toiletries for your use. The bath in our room was so opulent I could have stayed in there all evening. The dining area is quite niche you can have quiet discreet corners for a romantic evening or more open. The food is excellent- if I had 1 thing to say that was negative, it would be that I wouldn’t have a starter so I could have a dessert, I found each time I did I just didn’t have room to have one! The main thing for me was the staff. The staff quite simply made it for me. NOTHING was too much trouble, they were friendly, welcoming and went above and beyond , yet at the same time let us be. If you want somewhere, where you can be comfortable, away from it all and have excellent accommodation and food this is the place.

Sad to say that our trip there was a a big disappointment when it come to the food. We all had beef, it was dry and chewy. When we talked to the waiter, we have been told that is the way the chef does it. It is a shame that they only sell well done cuts of meat...

My wife and I went for a trip to Lowther Castle and Gardens with the in-laws, and after such awful weather we decided to travel to Cockermouth to treat ourselves to the excellent Fredricks which we've visited many times before. We started with the seafood platter / selection with a portion of chips for the young one. It's a great selection of items for fish lovers! After, we ordered some lovely main dishes, enough for 3 adults and 2 kids (1 kids meal of pizza and chips!) Lovely meal to end of evening. Will be back when next in the area.
