I visited with my family on Christmas Eve and we had a fantastic lunch. The food was superb. The service was excellent, nothing seemed too much trouble for the staff. Will certainly be back.

Just because this is part of The Trout Hotel doesn't mean it's any good... Booked and pre-ordered for a family birthday which didn't seem to matter as it took just less than 1 hour for food to be served! Food itself was average at best, very greasy and lacking of flavour and presentation. Overall, disappointed and expected better.

The evening was fab from start to finish. The table setting was great as there was 13 of us. We did preorder but the service of the food was really quick. The girls who served us were smiling and attentive , especially Aimee. Food was lovely from burgers to steaks. Definitely recommend the terrace bistro as a place to eat. It is part of the Trout Hotel. Shazzas party was enjoyed by all and noone was rushing us to leave. To finish off lovely coffee with shortbread yum One mention for waiter Stephen and his infectious laugh

I never review but sorry to do this. We went for a meal (a big-ish group) around 2 weeks ago and the food was awful. We ordered the Sunday dinner and it was all cheap ingredients. Possibly the worst food I’ve ever eaten, none of it was home made. The portions were terrible too.. the puddings were like microwave ones you can buy from Asda yourself. Constantly found that no one checked the table for ages we were in there for about 35 mins before we even got our order taken. The staff were friendly when they checked, I just feel like it’s more a case of bad management than the staff being lazy or absent. Just terribly let down by the quality of food. I know it’s not exactly expensive but Christ, if you don’t want any of the food to be home made then this is your place. Honestly it was awful, I would never go back. Could of visited a cheap cafe and had better food. Defiantly would not think of for how beautiful the surroundings are.

The food nice, however service really let it down. Took a long time to get any type of order (about 1 hour for drinks) and had to fight to get attention of service personnel for things like bill. Really let the place down

We had a wonderful time at The Terrace Bistro in Stockton Heath. We were celebrating our Wedding Anniversary which so happened to be during the Eat Out To Help Out Scheme but we wholeheartedly felt that we wouldn’t have any qualms about paying full price for the quality of Food and Service we received. It was lovely to chat to Marc and his team, who made us all feel so welcome. Eating Out can be challenging for us due to me working long hours during the day and my husband working nights. My husband is also Deaf and suffers with chronic Tinnitus which can make going to restaurants very overwhelming. He felt both comfortable and confident here and has already said he’d love to return which is very unusual for him. You have go to this absolutely fantastic place.

We stayed at the hotel and knew we would be tired after a day of walking so booked the Bistro. Whilst the serving staff were lovely and polite, and very attentive, that couldn't rescue the food which was mediocre at best. We had the tapas - the first dish that came out was the breaded brie which was malteser sized balls of deep fried cheese and not at all what we expected. The other dishes were not much better. This is not good food and obviously not prepared by a chef. I wouldn't choose to eat here again and would not recommend it to others.

Regulars diners in the bistro here and never disappointed. This week we tried the special "Bistro Week Menu", 2 courses £12, 3 courses £15. Not only was it excellent value but was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. The staff are always friendly and helpful, the beer well kept and the seating comfortable and relaxing. So convenient having car parking too! Thank you to all & special praise to the kitchen staff who we never see but are obviously working so hard behind the scenes!.

Staff saved the day. Had booked for afternoon tea and had rung to make sure that it was noted as afternoon tea. Walked through most of the hotel passing lovely restaurants with people having tea. Kept being sent to other rooms until we ended up in the bistro which had a very stong smell of cooking and not the ambience of the several other rooms we passed. There was no table set and no one appeared to know we were having tea. However the staff in the bistro turned the visit around they couldn't have been more helpful and we really enjoyed it.

So pleased we did! The menu had changed and the food was delicious - back to its very best!! We all had something different and we all said how much we had enjoyed it. We ate herefor mothers day. I had scallops and steak and chips. The scallops were nice but had been cooked with nuts, why? The steak and chips was faultless and 10/10. My wife had mixed carrot starter (a bit confusing) followed by lentil hotspot and roasting, super nice. The MIL had ale pie and chips. Unfortunately she was expecting a slice and not a full pie, the chips were soggy because they had gravy over them!! We followed this with crime brullee. This was a chocolate version and didn't work. Like scallops keep it simple. I had chocolate sundae and wife had treacle tart. Overall really enjoyed the meal, at least my wife and I did

I ate here Friday night and Sunday night as I was staying at the hotel and catching up with various friends and family. Food was great, generous portions all very well cooked. However the service in particular for getting drinks was snails paced. Friday I ordered a bottle of wine, that took forever to arrive. Sunday there were a few of us, some ordered cocktails, it took half an hour for the drinks to arrive which all arrived at different times and one was missed altogether. Food didn’t all arrive together either on the Sunday. However, the food was absolutely great and good value for money. Think if you offer a cocktail menu you need extra staff on the bar......

When we finished our main course no one came to take our plates away and we waited for half an hour. We were going to order desserts but were so bored waiting we got up, paid and left. Came here on a very wet and windy night. Place was empty with about 8 staff hanging around. To be fair staff initially friendly and we only wanted a table for two - then a miserable grey haired man asked if we had booked and made comments as I looked around the empty spaces. If the weather had not been so bad we would have left. Glad we stayed because food was excellent, restaurant and facilities well decorated and spotless and staff generally friendly. If the management read this the grey haired guy needs to be very careful how he presents himself and this excellent establishment. I would have given it 5 star had it not been for him.

A family meal to celebrate a birthday- a very good menu with plenty of choice to suit all members of the party (from the meat and two veg brigade to the lovers of spice and everything in between). The Trout even has a specific lactose- free menu for those who can't tolerate dairy products- I guess they will also have a gluten-free menu. The service was welcoming, attentive and cheerful. We were very comfortable in the newly-renovated bistro. It has a modern interior so don't expect an old-fashioned coaching inn feel. Plenty of choice as to where to eat as well- we could have stayed in the bar and associated rooms or gone to the posh restaurant. Sadly the weather was mixed and so we couldn't make the most of the outdoor terrace. There was a good mix of people dining from families with children to older couples.Well done, The Trout- you successfully cater for everyone. A warning, though- the portions are huge!!

Found the menu to be lacking, struggled to pick something so ended up with fish and chips which were lovely but would have preferred something else. One of our party had the green thai prawn curry which was seriously lacking in prawns and overloaded with onions+++, the boiled rice was just like the packs of well known 'cook in the microwave' type available in ant supermarket. Went recently for dinner to see changes since refurbishment. I had heard they had revised their menu and upped their game food wise, no longer offering a mammoth multi paged menu but a more simpler straight forward menu. The menu is much improved- on paper- and the decor looks great. Service was friendly but the food was as I remember on previous visits and of the standard offerings found in West Cumbria. Big portions, little flavouring and not a lot to get excited about. They just need an injection of life food wise and this would be a brilliant little place

We ate here all the time before the floods and we're excited to see The Trout and The Terrace reopen but what a disappointment. The menu, which previously was fab and had loads of choices, is now much changed and smaller. Some of the more popular items from previously, such as chicken strips, no longer appear on it. The decor is nice but the lighting gives it a cold feeling. We hadn't booked, which is a new thing for The Terrace, and ended up at a table by the door to the outside terrace as all other tables were booked but for most of the time tables were empty. The staff are lovely as ever, especially Stephen, but the once cosy atmosphere and fab food is missing. Not sure that we will be eating here very often now

At last it's opened. This has consistently been our favourite local restaurant for a number of years, but had been badly damaged in the floods. Now all repaired, very nicely may I add, it's back open. There has been a change in the menu but the food is still well cooked and presented great. Most of the same staff are here and just as friendly as ever, we visited on a Saturday with friends, all of us trying a different dish, everyone loved it. Brilliant service fantastic food and super staff, what's not to love............ But! Many changes have happened, most fabulous, however one of these changes is bizarre! On walking into the hotel we walked as always toward the Terrace bar. Half way down the lobby we were met by a second row forward rugby player who tackled us with his I-pad. It was with great side stepping action and the off-side rule that we managed to get allowance to enter the bar! He explained that we needed a reservation to enter, never reserved before I said, but you need one now he said. He advised us to book a table and return another day, we did with negotiation manage to be allowed in. Once in Stephen and his team found us a loverly table very quickly, we had a great meal and fabulous few bottles of wine, excellent. We were told the table was booked in two and a half hours, by which time we had finished and moved to the bar. We spent approx £210 which would have been missed had we done as asked and returned another day! I could not help but note the dulled atmosphere as other people also had missed the opportunity of a table as they had been booked so left empty - two tables were empty all night ! I hope the management do read this review as the criticism is a constructive one. This is still one of the best places in the area, you have a formal dinner, a bar dinner and the Terrace - magnificent but as a business owner may I say, if it ain't broke don't fix it!!! Changes are best left up to the chef!! I would never leave a bad review as the food and staff are brilliant, just hope you can see the issue. But well done to all your staff. See you next week

We ate here before the floods in 2009 and didn't rate the food what so ever. Then we visited again after the floods when it re-opened and was again disappointed. I had a butternut squash risotto, it was bland and tasted chalky so had it sent back. My husbands chicken fajitas were poor, the tortillas were so dry that when he was rolling the chicken etc inside the bread just cracked and broke, so that got sent back too. Never visited for a few years after that and recently went this summer for lunch with friends. Wasn't my choice for lunch but went with it. Ordered the open smoked salmon sandwich and chips, couldn't fault the chips but half way through my sandwich came across a half moon shaped piece of hard plastic in it. Sent it back, they did give me another one. Could of been a different story if I hadn't of spotted it or if a child had been eating it. So again that put me off going again. Had family up from Manchester last week who have kids. Last minute we all decided we would go out for tea. Only place I could think of in Cockermouth that welcomes kids and you didn't have to book was the terrace bar, so off we went. I thought having not ate dinner here for a very long time we would give it one last chance. My husband and others ordered steak & ale pie I ordered the warm salad with new potatoes and mushrooms. Sounded quite nice and was picking carefully as I knew our past experiences. How ever, the salad came and looked like a bowl of grease which it pretty much was! Not refreshing how a salad should be! It was gritty as the spinach I presume hadn't been washed properly. My husband said the pie was bland but the chips were nice. I make nicer food at home and I'm not a chef. They really need to up there game here on the food as it should be better if not nicer than what you can make. It's a shame really as its a nice place inside with the decor and outside is a nice setting. Really overrated. And we won't be going again. That was the 4th chance and still disappointed with it. Shame really!

We ordered room service as the bar was quite busy, and ordered North Sea Cod and Chips. This arrived within 15 minutes and piping hot with excellent service from the delivery team. A must visit place to eat if you're in the area.

We regularly eat and drink here as we think it's one of the best places in the town. Always has a good atmosphere to it with a mix of all ages of people. Food and drink lovely and Stephen always takes good care of us, being friendly but discreet as well. A favourite!

I love it here! It has a really nice atmosphere and the food is gorgeous! It's especially nice in the summer months when you can sit outside and enjoy the large outside space. The last time we visited it was really busy but they still managed to find us a table and the service is great too.

Went on Saturday night. It was heaving which is always a good sign. Manage to find a table for two - the staff were rushed off their feet but still extremely helpful. We both had steak and ale pie. It was really lovely - maybe just a little burned? But that's just me nit picking. No issues with this place. They know what they do and they do it well. We will return. Hats off to the waiting on and bar staff. They're great.

Visited the Terrace Bar, 13/10/14 for my wife's birthday. Two of us ordered Steak and Ale pie, when they arrived the veg was cold and the inners of the pie were stone cold. When we complained the waitress tried to blame the ongoing kitchen repairs.About twenty minutes later we received hot, overcooked and burnt steak in the pies.We were given a 50% discount off the bill, which was appreciated, however almost twelve months earlier my wife had frozen meatballs served to her. The kitchens were not being modified then! How can you fail to serve hot food!

Visited here twice, both times with my partner. The building itself and the decor is lovely and modern. The general quality of the food is good also. But there are a few bad points.. The staff always seem to have no interest in the customer and our experience. We were given menus at the table without a word spoken and no smile. In the first visit i ordered the lasagne, which when it came, it was served on a wooden board. I am guessing that this is a certain way of dining, but to me it was a massive inconvenience. I like having my food on one plate, so I really struggled to enjoy my food. My partner had steak and ale pie, which he said, was average. He could barely taste the ale. We had two meals and a drink each, and although I cannot remember the exact price of the bill, I know it was expensive. I felt as though I paid through the nose for an average meal! The staff need to work on their customer service and the meals need to be better quality. Haven't been back since.

Having visited The Terrace numerous times I thought it's time to write a review as we have never had a bad meal here! The food is lovely, staff are friendly although sometimes a littele slow but that never stops us from coming back again and again. Nice, chilled atmosphere especially when the sun is shining, you can sit down by the river or chill out in the big garden area, or take shade in the terrace patio. Anywhere you decide to sit you will enjoy as the food is so lovely. Very welcoming with families and children too. 10/10

I have visited The Terrace many times for lunch and different times throughout the day and have always had a good experience.Good choice of food, some items maybe a little over- priced but on the whole reasonable. Lovely furnishings and a nice quiet environment. Food always good, served on nice plates which makes a difference to me! I will be visiting more often over the summer after being left dissatisfied with other local restaurants.

Called into the Terrace for lunch today. The setting is very pleasant, we chose a big sofa which was very comfortable. Quiet atmosphere, which made conversation easy. The only disturbance was the audible shouts of "service" from the Kitchen, surely there is a better system?Food was good, had one dish from the main menu and another lunchtime special. good value and drinks did not sting you under £1.50 for half a soft drink. Would go again.

Came to The Terrace for my husband's birthday, just the two of us. We were given nice seats and there was a lovely atmosphere as several other diners were already in situ. The menu sounded amazing if a bit simple, but we loved the references to locally sourced food so was looking forward to a very good meal. Here comes the 'but'. It appears that the management are all about the anticipation because the food was basic. Simple food is great if it's done well, but our meals were the type of rhing that you could find in any decent pub. Again this is not necessarily a bad thing, but when the bill came to over £70 we felt a bit hard done by. Service isn't great either. We finished our drinks and had to go to the bar to order more because nobody came to check on us.

I live in cockermouth and have visited the terrace bar 3/4 times, and been unhappy every time. The most recent time I had the pork saltimbocca. ... very salty bland polenta, that is said to be creamed (its not) I had to send it back. My partners stir fry was also salty but we didn't want to complain about both. The girl serving was lovely and we were looked after well. She changed my meal without fuss. I will not be back there are nicer places to eat in cockermouth.

We are local and often call to the bar for a glass of wine and something to eat. The food is of a good standard though both wine and food are on the pricey side, however not unusual for hotel prices. There is a good sized outdoor seating area for summer nights and you can often call in by chance and get a seat to eat if you are prepared to wait a few minutes. The staff are friendly and they can take their time sometimes but as long as you are not in a rush, it is a good place to be.

Sunday evening, six of us called in for meal. We found the surroundings, food, price and the staff all fantastic. The citronella candles helped with the insects flying around, it was a warm summer night and we were sitting outside. We are planning to go again very soon. Thank you all at The Terrace Bistro.

We came here as a last minute decision on a Friday night, as part of my friends leaving party. It was around 8.30pm and was very busy outside as the weather was nice. There were a group of 9 of us so we had to put two tables together. We were lucky to get a seat as these two tables were the only ones empty. There isn't much room outside and they pack the tables in so we were a bit cramped. We all wanted different things so we decided to split into 3 groups to order & share food. My group (5 of us) decided to order some nibbles to share. We ordered mini pizzas, chips, brie dippers, garlic bread and nachos. When we tried to order at the bar we were told no food until after 9pm as it was too busy, only bar snacks (nuts, olives & crisps etc). We were a bit disappointed so they relented and took our food order. Bizarrely, another group of ours were able to order a main meal, so this no food till after 9pm thing was a bit conflicting! Our food came quite quickly, but the other food ordered by the other two groups on our table was very slow to arrive even though they ordered straight after us. It was very busy so this is probably why the service was slow, but there didn't seem to be many staff working either. We really enjoyed our food, it was tasty and there was plenty of it. We split the bill and the food came to just over £5 each for 5 of us so this was good value (main meal priced looked quite expensive). The staff were pleasant enough, but one guy was very good, he even took photographs for us, and asked us what the occasion was so that was nice. It was nice to sit outside and the atmosphere was good. The only downside was that there were a lot of flies and midges about so that was annoying, but when the weathers warm and there is food about, I suppose this can only be expected.

What a lovely restaurant with fabulous food and great staff. We were staying close by and had seen great reviews about the restaurant so we had to try it….not just once but two nights in a row it was that good. On the first night my husband had lamb shoulder which was cooked to perfection and fell off the bone, I had salmon and prawns which were equally as good. The second night it was seafood platter for my husband and sweet and sour chicken for me. Both meals were very good and it was great to have so much to choose from. It was a pleasant change to be able to choose the accompaniment to the meals rather than just chips with salad or veg. The staff were very attentive and polite. All in all it was a great experience and would definitely recommend this restaurant.

The restaurant is part of Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa. The breakfast, is poor quality ingredients which are largely tasteless. The milk jug was dirty, the staff seemed miserable (expect for two chaps who were welcoming and happy). All in all, very poor and I won’t be back.
