Tarantella Restaurant in Allerdale

We had a great family meal here. The food is well prepared, presented beautifully and very tasty. The specials of monkfish and swordfish were excellent and the pasta and pizza dishes were also amazing. We had a very good Italian Merlot and Italian beers on drought. Service is very good, and all at a fair price, especially considering the current challenges with food inflation, staffing costs etc. We will definitely return!

This is the first time we have dined at Tarantella but it won’t be the last. It appears very small from the front but the main accommodation is towards the back. On a cold night, the ambience was warm and welcoming. The food was superb (starters and mains) and the waiting staff were very friendly and efficient. The prices are most reasonable. Altogether a lovely night with friends and money well spent. Ciao Tarantella. Ritornero.

My husband and I went in for lunch today, we were staying in the area overnight, so had no idea what to expect. I ordered the lasagne and my husband ordered the supremo pizza and we got a cheese garlic bread to share. Everything was amazing. Best lasagne I've ever had and the pizza was packed and so tasty. We would highly recommend trying here. Service was brilliant too

Dined at Tarantella this evening in a party of 6 plus a baby. The restaurant looks unassuming but don’t let that fool you. Both the staff and especially the food are fantastic. As a family, we love Italian food and so happy we stumbled upon this little gem. All plates went back empty and we left with full stomachs and wearing big smiles. Really really enjoyed ourselves :)

For a standalone restaurant in a small market town Tarantellas is a rarity. Food is consistently excellent, staff welcoming and attentive we have dined worldwide in five star establishments but to be completely honest Tarantellas is our absolute gold standard by which ALL other restaurants are judged. All power to your elbow, you deserve every success

Took my Daughter here last evening for dinner. Everything about the experience was excellent. It was quite busy, but we were tucked nicely into a 'niche' in the corner and you wouldn't have known. The service was attentive, prompt, courteous and non-intrusive. The food was superb - well presented, well cooked and well thought out. Lovely. There is a good range of drinks available too. Altogether an absolutely brilliant evening. Not at the cheaper end of the market, but very well worth it.

Seated next to a loud party. Ordered food and drinks, C02 had gone on the coke so it was just a glass of flat syrup. Asked to move numerous times. In the end we couldn’t cope with the sheer amount of noise from the drunk scousers so had to abandon our meal after ordering. I’ve worked FOH and BOH in hospitality for over ten years and I’ve never seen such a drastic fail of table management and people skills. We would have been in and out within 20 minutes. You don’t seat people going out for a quiet meal next to loud party’s. Wouldn’t be posting this here but the manager called me a horrible person in his reply to me on Google reviews for leaving an honest review. So it can go on Tripadvisor and stay here until the end of time. Horrible man, horrible restaurant, horrible experience! Avoid, avoid, avoid.

A busy vibrant Italian restaurant, good varied menu and interesting specials board. Comprehensive wine list. Servers very pleasant, knowledgeable and professional . We felt welcomed and important. Good vegetarian choices, i had the stuffed peppers- beautiful and i large portion. My husband had plaice and asparagus, a special, really enjoyed both our meals. We will certainly be dining here again when next in the area

Darted in to get out of the sudden heavy downpour and we're kindly seated. Service was very friendly and the food was delicious. The Parma ham and fig pizza was to die for. Absolutely gutted we didn't have any cash on us as was well deserving of a nice tip, we shall rectify next time we get to come up here again :)

Just had the most lovely meal at this restaurant. The service was excellent and we both enjoyed the Peperoni repieni di risotto which was Roasted pepper stuffed with a beetroot goats cheese risotto with mozzarella red onion and rocket. Walked in and managed to get the last table of the night which was fantastic and very lucky. Both myself and partner were very happy with the choices of mains we ordered which were brought to us very quickly and tasted beautiful! 2 mains and 2 alcoholic drinks for around £50 so value for money too. Overall very happy with our experience here

I’ve been visiting tarantellas ever since it opened and today I visited again after a long time and I must say, what an improvement! The seafood pasta is fantastic and probably the only place in cockermouth you can get fresh seafood pasta, rather than fish flavoured rubber!! The owner is so lovely and I’ve never had a bad word to say about him, the rest of the team are great too! All in all a massive improvement to when I visited last, I’ll defintley coke back!

Came here with friends for a long awaited catch up. We never stopped talking and Ben was patient and understanding revisiting us several times until we shut up for long enough to order! Food was all delicious and service attentive without being suffocating. We all had special dishes and my friend who is pescatarian needed to make a change to hers because there was chorizo, this was not a problem and was substituted for prawns. Will definitely be back!

We attended in late April on the way home from a Workington Reds game. It was the first time in about 7 attempts that we'd managed to get an early evening booking on a Saturday (often trying a week in advance), which kind of says it all... We shared bruschetta with mushrooms and Parmesan shavings in a cream sauce, which was a lovely starter. For main Mrs W had tagliatelle with steak & mushrooms, while Mr W had penne with chicken Milanese. Not quite authentic, I think, but gorgeous nonetheless. For dessert we had a Tiramisu and an Affogato con Caffe, followed by cappuccinos. Service was prompt, including drinks, the food was delicious and the facilities spotlessly clean. In fact, that is probably the only criticism: the whole place seems a bit spartan. That said, we'll be back as soon as they have a table available on a night we're trying to get in.

Visited mid-week out of season, so restaurant not very busy. A number of couples visiting and the owner kindly spread us out so that our meals remained more private which I appreciated. Very nice sardines on toast and bruschetta to start. Lasagne main was very tasty and was nicely accompanied by garlic bread. The sage and butternut ravioli was too oily to enjoy and the flavours were a little too samey and slightly bland to be enjoyable. Nice little restaurant but not the most exciting for non-meat-eaters.

Visited here whilst on holiday in the Lakes. Food was absolutely gorgeous and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and service was quick. Would definitely recommend if you’re staying in the area!

We came for dinner on Friday night after a long drive up from London. We were hoping for some delicious comfort food and that’s exactly what we got. The steak and mushroom tagliatelle was a particular highlight - absolutely divine! The service was great with a couple of really attentive and friendly girls looking after us. Overall, a great start to our trip away!

Called in for lunch on Saturday as it was ages since we had visited. Nice choices on the menu, and the specials looked lovely, although a bit much for lunchtime. Pizza was great, not too large but well covered, and the gluten free pasta also great. We'll be back!

Spent an evening here with work colleagues. The internal decor and furniture is a little simple but the food is good quality Italian fare. The Gamberoni all' agilo (Prawns in chilli oil) starter were excellent. The Pollo alla Milanese as a main was good, and plentiful. There is something for everyone on the menu and the prices are competitive and I would say good value. If you want a reliable meal, in a friendly restaurant this is a good bet.

Estaba emocionado de probar el entrante arancini, ya que son una de mis comidas italianas favoritas, estaban bien hechas y el chorizo en el relleno era un buen toque. Visited Friday 13th March for the first time with friends, had a lovely meal, the swordfish was amazing and my friends had the chicken, staff were great, the only problem was a group of 6 men who should have known better, they behaved appallingly to the young waitress, a lady at a table next to them even asked them to tone it down. What a shame people behave like this, however, we loved it and will be back very soon, hopefully without the group who were there last night. Hope the young waitress wasnt too upset. My husband and I treated ourselves to Tarantella last night for our first date night after having our baby. As always you are welcomed into the restaurant and shown to your table. The food was delicious and the staff were fantastic nothing is too much trouble for them. There was an incident with another table where a drink was accidentally spilt. I felt the staff dealt with really this really well, brining the gentleman a replacement drink. The table a group of men where out of order completely in how they treat the staff and made the rest of the diners feel uncomfortable. After they had made there scene, embarrassed themselves, threatened to take the manager outside and eventually left the restaurant the manager came round apologising to all the remaining diners. Thank you again to all the team at Tarantella we throughly enjoyed our food and hospitality from you. See you again soon.

Management of this restaurant have no concept of customer service and how to treat their clientele. I will never return here.

I've worked and ate all over the the world, I dont expect perfection but I do expect professionalism. Average food, shocking management.

A good place to meet up with friends for a relaxing evening as not too noisy and service good and efficient. Also a wide variety of dishes so should be able to please even a picky eater.

Went last night for food which was amazing. I’ve been here 2/3 times before which was okay. Throughly enjoyed my meal this time. I ha garlic mushrooms to start with and then the bacon wrapped chicken with gnocchi for main. Brill service. Highly recommend

Todos los adornos de un restaurante italiano tradicional, inicialmente se sintieron afortunados de conseguir una mesa, ya que estaba muy ocupado. El personal era agradable y cortés, la comida un poco mezclada y un poco caro. Encantador entrante de calamares y un helado clásico para el postre, pero mi masa de calzone era demasiado corta y bizcochada y el sabor era pobre. A los 75 para dos (incluida una botella de vino) era demasiado caro, más de 50 comidas, pensé. ¡Pero práctico y comestible si otros están reservados!

Como vegetariano, siempre estoy sorprendido y sorprendido de que los lugares anuncien las comidas como aptas para vegetarianos cuando no lo son: artículos cocinados en aceite que tiene carne y productos de pescado cocinados y queso parmesano que no es y nunca puede ser vegetariano ( contiene cuajo de terneros sacrificados) PERO cuando vinimos a comer a Tarentella claramente tomaron estas cosas a bordo y confirmaron que a) toda la comida vegetariana se cocina en freidoras separadas (¡lo que significa que las papas fritas están de vuelta en el menú para mí!) y ) el 'parmesano' que usan es vegetariano. . . . por fin alguien "lo entiende" y otros establecimientos deberían tomar nota.La comida para un vegetariano y uno no vegetariano fue una de las mejores que hemos tenido en mucho, mucho tiempo.Sin duda volveremos.

Nothing better having fresh anchovies on a pizza. Starter was excellent and so was the pizza. There is not many Italians in West Cumbria but at least the ones that are here are very good. High quality food, can't ask for much else.

We recently stayed in Cockermouth for a week and ate here twice. The first time it was excellent. The second time was not so excellent but still very nice and when we were asked if the main course was alright we said (without making a song and dance about it) it was a bit short of pasta sauce so it felt dry compared to the other visit. There came an immediate apology which was fine with us and it did not spoil the evening as the king prawn with chilli starters were to die for. So was the red wine which we chose even though it was dearer than others at £23.50 a bottle and worth every penny. I wouldn't say it felt very Italian but it was a peaceful place and the food and staff are very good.The surprise came at the end when without a word being said £10.95 (the cost of a prawn starter) was deducted by way of an apology for the pasta not being quite up to standard. We really appreciated this gesture. Now that is the way to treat customers and ensure they return or recommend you to others. Well done to all at Tarantella and thank you for two very pleasant evenings. They even played my kind of easy listening music i.e. Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra at one point so that's a 10 from me.

Estaba buscando comida italiana y una cálida bienvenida italiana. No he encontrado estos ni siquiera cerca. El servicio fue pobre y lento. Cuando pregunté por una descripción de pasta arrabbiata con pollo, me dijeron que era pasta de especias con pollo y que estaba buscando en otro lado. El vino que pedí no era de la cantidad correcta y este fue el aspecto positivo.

Excellent service and great food. Fitted us in on a call in although booking recommended as can be busy in a holiday periods. The mussels were the star of the show, my little boy loved them. Great portions and left feeling well fed and well looked after. Would visit again.

The food was lovely but as a group of 6 we were very disappointed in the service, the ‘welcome’ included the bar staff pointing to the table and (after the food was slow to be served) we were bluntly asked to vacate our table as the next group were waiting. Not sure I’ll be returning any time soon.

Really enjoy eating here, ate a few times but never reviewed, food is fresh and flavorful with a nicely sized menu (not too big) , service was very good too, reasonable prices but you have to go off the food and it was delicious.

Uno siempre puede estar seguro de una buena comida aquí. Reconocido principalmente los locales cuando comí aquí entre semana. Buen tamaño de las porciones y un menú variado con especiales interesantes. Ambiente agradable y gran servicio. Tuve las vieiras con entrante de chorizo que era excelente, con 4 jumbo sabroso vieiras ligeramente cocinado a la perfección bien complementado por el chorizo. Tuve el filete de cerdo envuelto en panceta principal con calabaza asada y espárragos con manzana. No en vano fue bastante salado. La calabaza fue cortada en dados más bien pequeños. Las cuñas de manzana tenían un precioso revestimiento caramelizado. La ginebra rosa y el cóctel Prosecco se veían bastante aburridos: un par de bayas habrían marcado la diferencia en la presentación y habría sido más feliz sin las 2 pajitas de plástico. Una comida satisfactoria y estoy seguro de que volveré pronto.

Esta noche fue la primera vez que comí en la Tarantella durante años, pero me alegro de haber ido. Deliciosos medallones de filete, buen servicio y sabroso vino. Cuidado, las papas fritas, aunque deliciosas, son gigantescas tanto en tamaño como en porción, lo que es un buen problema. Sin duda recomiendo probar este encantador restaurante.

Hace poco visité este restaurante con mi compañero, el personal era brillante, muy feliz y educado, nada era una molestia. El cóctel, un moijito, era encantador. Pedimos nuestra comida y llegó muy rápido. Pedí el pollo, la pasta de chorizo en una salsa cremosa, estaba sabrosa, sin embargo, era de un color amarillo brillante, lo que me sorprendió ya que esperaba un color carbonara; de todos modos, estaba delicioso. Mi compañero pidió el mismo pollo y chorizo, pero en una salsa picante de tomate, ¡fue agradable!

We visited in the evening and were given a choice of tables. The food was well presented and very tasty. The staff were friendly and efficient. Surroundings are pleasant with a nice ambiance.

We went out with friends for a meal out. The staff were very friendly, the service was really good and the food was also good. A nice relaxed atmosphere.

Place was quite busy but service attentive. Had calamari which was cooked lovely and the sauce with it wasn't the usual garlic mayonnaise which was a nice change and very good.

Due to a recommendation we visited this restaurant, located on the Main Street of Cockermouth. We were glad we came. The service was great, the place was busy and the food a delight. My linguine Di gamberini e salsiccia dish was cooked perfectly with lots of flavor and my husband’ “ Arrosto Di Angelo”; lamb shoulder with veggies, was also tasty and well presented (it was boneless, a nice surprise). For dessert we shared a Stocky toffee pudding which was light in texture and delicious. We were very happy with our meals, one of the best we have had on our holiday, so far.

Tasty food! Shifty staff - I was charged for a glass of wine I sent back, mentioned it but they chose to charge me because they wouldn’t ‘waste good wine’ I’m pretty sure they poured it down the drain anyway. Off putting ...Pity!

Called in on spec as we were in Cockermouth. Managed to seat us - very busy so happy that they could! Starters - mushrooms; cares & roast artichoke - delis! Pizza, tagliatelle salmone, penned with chicken, pork belly - all very delicious! Good price, excellent service - what more can I say!

After being disappointed at other establishments we called on spec to get a table for two without any issue. Customer service was excellent, atmosphere splendid and the food? Quite the best Calzone I have ever tasted (and I guarantee I have tasted a lot!). THe menus was extensive and reasonably priced (considering its location in a prime tourist town). We will return and recommend without hesitation.

Disappointing meal,my pizza dough and the garlic bread were very hard, i thought it was expensive for what we had. Waitress"s need to smile much more and interact more to create a welcoming atmosphere.

Not the best, not the worst meal I’ve ever had but certainly nothing special. Don’t think I’d go back or recommend, pricey for what it is. Also the waitress sat there eating her own tea whilst there were customers in.

This is a pleasant restaurant, pleasant staff and pleasant food but nothing to write home about. It was fairly busy on our visit. The Fish Special was commented on as 'nice', the pasta dish was fine but ordinary, wines are expensive too. 1 course with wine and coffee was almost £80.

struggled to find an eatery open before 6.30pm, walked the high street and spotted this one from the other side of the road. really nice ambience, lovely Italian food, nice wines, meatballs in an amazing sauce, and pumpkin lasagna. We’ve been to tarantella in Ambleside witch is great and the cockermouth restaurant is just as good.

We went there for a pizza and we anded up having a terrible pizza not worth the money I wish I went to Aldi to have a frozen one they should be ashamed to call themselves tarantella

We came here having seen positive tripadvisor reviews (and for me hoping to get a taste of home!)

Recommended by others on our visit to Cockermouth and we were not disappointed. Welcoming reception, great service and great food. Our choices of salmon and prawn linguine and lasagne were tasty and well presented. My lasagne was amongst the best I have had. Reasonably priced and good value. Would recommend to others.

Early evening meal for four, sat quickly, drinks order taken fast and starters out quickly, had chicken liver starter which was very good, mains out quickly also - had a special. Bream on a chorizo, pea, asparagus and spring onion risotto. I never order risotto as I rarely find restaurants that cook it the way I like it, the texture was less loose than I prefer but it was packed with flavour so no complaint there!
