Visited this cafe in July due to trip advisor ratings. We were not disappointed. I opted for the full breakfast which was freshly cooked and very tasty. The young waitress’s were very polite and the whole dining experience was great

A simple cafe. We had a light soup and sandwich lunch. The soup was hot and tasty and the sandwich was fine as well. Perhaps not the style of a modern establishment but that don’t let that put you off.

Fabulous tea rooms in a unique location with beautiful views of the railway and the River Dee. The afternoon tea was delicious! We came yesterday for our Mum’s birthday and unfortunately she became unwell during our time at the tea rooms. The staff were lovely-so helpful, kind and couldn’t do enough for us, which we really appreciated during a stressful time. Would highly recommend and will definitely visit again. Thank you again for all your help and kindness.

A romantic early evening dinner, lovely table . views, warm,,,nice welcome,,long long wait for dinner,,, My lamb dinner was chewy, was expecting a lamb bone, but the white bone was set adrivift in a sea of lamb scrags, Patronising sever with assured me it was not a ready meal,,,I have had better, This is a tourist trap, passing themselves as a restaurant,,.

I wanted a small snack. The ready made baguette type looked nice and two prices were given, an eat-in and an eat-out. Separately hot food was also available. The meat bap which was what i decided to have was priced at £6.50. Only one price was given. Beef was the only meat left but this looked dried however it as my only choice si i had a brown cob. To moisten it up i asked for gravy but they had none. I said that i would have onions but i could hardly taste these on the cob. I also asked for mustard expecting to be give some to put it on but i later found that it had been put on by the staff and was insufficient. I was asked if i would eat in or take out and i said that i would eat in as i also wanted a coffee. I only drink oat milk in my coffee but was told that they didn’t have any. When i went to pay the bill it had gone up from £6.50 to £7.40 was told that was the eat out price however there was no indication on the food item that the higher price applied. I complained in a pleasant way that no other price had been displayed but the comment i received from the female staff member was that a eat-in price was charged. When I said that no other price was shown on the item the staff member repeated that a eat-in price applied. I repeated my original complaint but again the same answer was given. The staff member seemed to be totally unconcerned that i was not happy with the transaction and offered no further explanation. At this point I gave up. If you decide to eat here make sure that you know how much you are going to be charged. I will not be eating here again.

We had a lovely bottle of wine in our first evening and the ambience was great. So we booked a meal. Got to the restaurant on time to find that our booking was not booked at all. We were so upset as we were even given the choice of tables when we booked. As it was festival weekend we couldn’t get in anywhere else and our evening was spoilt

We've visited this place twice, now-once to stay and last night for a meal. The main lady who runs it is very caring and provides hot, tasty food. My review is based on our experience last night, however. We'd been working hard over Christmas and really needed a rest-to have a bit of Christmassy time as a couple. The place was virtually deserted, with half shut down for a non existent event. The interior was still tired, with our table being sticky, but the decorations were lush and magical. We were surprised to find that early evening they were being ripped down. So I indicated I didn't really want to eat with this happening We were assured this wouldn't happen. As we made our order, from a pricey menu (youd expect a more high end effort of menu and interior for the price) we were told what they'd run out of. I ordered garlic mushrooms to be told, 'sorry', they weren't on the menu either, however, I was allowed a child's meal, of sausage, mash and peas which was hot and tasty. There was a friendly guy at the bar, and as we settled, another woman started ripping the row of large stars off the windows in front of us! The man asked couldn't she let Xmas last a bit longer, but he was dismissed. We both made comments asking to keep them up but we were roundly told weve got decorations in our area! It didn't matter we were now facing windows looking grim black with the night. We were also derided for expressing that it wasn't nice to have the decorations ripped down as we were eating and that we'd come to the wrong place. We decided to not have dessert or Irish coffees and left. This place, as the man at the bar said, has so much potential, but we feel they have lost total sight of what's important in hospitality and that sometimes people come to escape, for just a little while, hard work. I've done a lot of work with customer care and appreciated that I'm providing a service. Time outside of people eating should have been arranged to take the decorations down. We don't have a lot of money and we felt the 20 pounds we did spend was not just wasted but left us feeling upset. We travelled 40 minutes to go to the Cherry Pie in Denbigh, where we were given the warmest welcome in a nicely busy pub, otherwise similar vibe to the Britannia. There, we had the rest' of our meal, cocktails, Irish coffee etc, surrounded by Christmas decorations, filled with the spirit of Christmas. We left The Cherry Pie, with a warm, Christmas glow inside. I'm writing our review for that, next.

The toilets in this place are disgusting. I have never seen anything like it. How health and safety haven't condemned them I don't know. I would never dream of eating in a establishment like this.

Hadn’t been here for a long time as the food wasn’t good, I’d heard good reports now so I ventured in, my god what a pleasant surprise, the fish and chips were amazing, the shop was clean and bright and the price of £10 was ok as the portion was really generous

Oh dear oh dear oh dear, I was taking some friends from Canada all around Snowdonia to see the sights and experience Welsh hospitality. Being welsh myself I am incredibly proud of my country. Sadly the cafe at the top of the horseshoe pass was closed, where I explained that I always get friendly service with plain wholesome food. It was 19.30 and sadly not many places were open on our journey back from the very North of Wales. I had passed here many times and couldn't believe our luck that it was open.....that is where our excitement ended. I was in pain from the walking and driving to and fro, and so my friend went in to enquire if they were still serving food. "we shut at 8" came the reply. So they quickly beckoned me in and order we did. To say that the middle aged female serving would turn milk sour was an understatement. We ordered plaice and chips....there were three of us. "we only have 2 fish" came the surly reply. Ok we will have the steak and ale pie and the 2 fish please we said. No acknowledgement, no please or thank you, so extra loudly I said "Diolch yn fawr cariad"hoping that she would at least give a smile if she was a fellow welsh person. Nope, not a crack. I immediately thought of a female Basil Fawlty. "are you sitting here or in the restaurant part" she enquired in a "I wish you would go away" kind of tone. So taking the initiative we moved into the restaurant area, where another group of Americans attempted their ordering.....poor things we thought. Out came the fish and chips (clearly frozen beforehand, but fair play they were cooked well and frankly cardboard would have tasted good, as we were very very hungry). The Pie....well, it was obviously again taken from the freezer. Which to be honest I get that, you cannot rely on custom so fresh would be impossible to achieve. BUT, that does not give the excuse for being miserable and downright rude. My visitors had not experienced this for the whole of our trip and have been greeted by my fellow welshmen with interest and friendly chat. I would avoid this place like the plague, I certainly will not be bringing foreign visitors again and suggest that maybe the staff attend some training on customer relations. It costs nothing to smile and be polite for me "manners maketh man". No wonder the place looks run down, if you treat customers like this then word will get around. Give up now, put it up for sale and sell it to someone who is interested in making some money as I am fairly sure people would flock around if you were a little cleaner and friendlier.
