I went in to find only one real ale which was a Theakstones session beer . I was charged £5.50 which is alot for an ale . The menus light bites started at £12 so you can imagine the prices of the full menu. Looks shabby on the outside and only open on Friday Saturday Sunday and bank holidays. I won't be visiting it again which is a shame as it's in a lovely location.

Had a drive over the horseshoe pass heading into Llangollen. Stopped off here for some lunch. I am so glad we did. The food is absolutely delicious. The nicest pub lunch I have had for a long time. I had the pasta with chicken and mushrooms. Was abit too big of a portion for me so want to go back soon with my eldest son as we could share it. My husband had a burger which he really enjoyed and my daughter a kids roast dinner. The staff are really friendly and the pub is clean and tidy. Lots of tables reserved inside so just goes to show how popular it is. I have been before with my parents when I was a young girl for scampi in a basket so found memories for me.

5 noisy, senior ladies thoroughly enjoyed lunch at The Britannia Inn on the Horshoe pass today. We had a great welcome from Ann and her friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. Everyone enjoyed their lunch and praised the excellent home made fayre made from local fresh produce. We enjoyed our time so much at The Brittania Inn that next month's get together was booked there and then before we left. It was so refreshing to leave the hustle and bustle of the town, no worries about where to park. It was a shame that the weather wasn't warm enough fot us to sit out to enjoy the view. Thank you Ann and staff for a great lunch. Thank you Ann and staff.

Having found Llangollen hopelessly crowded, we d rove up past the abbey [worth a visit in its own right] and were pleased to find this gem of a pub. A slightly dowdy appearance outside and dated furnishing inside, but what we were after was a decent lunch and that is exactly what we got- varied menu, good size portions [too much for us!] and very well cooked. Strongly recommend you forget fighting for parking space in Llangollen and enjoy a drive up the valley to the Brittania !

Enjoyed a “bar snack “ lunch ,the quality, quantity and value was exceptional. The menu is extensive and the service was charming so we were astonished that the pub was empty when we arrived at midday on a Friday.I took the unusual step of suggesting that they should increase their prices,at current prices their margins must be vanishingly small.

I arranged an 80th birthday meal for my Nana and there would be 35 of us eating! Based on previous good reviews for large parties on this page I booked The Britannia. In the build-up to the meal Ann (the owner) was very helpful in making sure they had all the orders they needed ahead of the day and we were happy with everything. Due to how helpful they had been already I knew we were on to a winner but they by far surpassed my expectations on the day. Ann went over our orders again with me just to make sure everything was correct. We had a private function room and bar to ourselves, we were allowed in an hour early to decorate and the venue took safe delivery of the cake for us before we had arrived! Absolutely nothing was too much trouble - Ann even cut the cake into 30 odd pieces for us too! The delivery and quality of the starters, mains and desserts was brilliant, they made serving over 30 people look effortless!! I couldn't recommend them enough for a large group and celebration. They did everything they could to make sure my Nana's birthday went well and was extra special!

We are regular customers of this establishment but after our last visit we were deeply disappointed in how the service and food have deteriorated. Our drinks order was wrong, and we then waiting over 20 minutes for our food order to arrive. When this was brought three of the meals were the wrong order, and the vegetables were cold. Also when being served the waitress leaned over the table and her long hair was brushing into the food already on the table. After the dishes were cleared no one came back to the table to ask if we wanted a dessert or coffee. We could not understand the poor service as the premises were not at all busy, so sadly we will not be calling here again.

We went to this place for lunch because they have a no dogs policy., To us that is marvelous as it has become so popular to have signs in the window saying "Dogs welcome" it has become very difficult to find anywhere to eat. The other great bonus is that there is no deafening piped music so you can chat without bellowing at the person across the way. The lunch menu had sufficient choice for a weekday and the food when it arrived was hot and well prepared. We were so impressed that we went back three times. The Sunday lunch was excellent. There was plenty of food, full range of veggies and a good choice of roast. They were busy but it was not noisy and the service was good. Would recommend to a friend.

Mid week tea, we visited on recommendation. The place was well lit, plenty of parking, lovely and clean inside (immaculate). Nice old building, traditional and tasteful decor. Would've been nice to have the open fire lit, and maybe some music as we could just hear everyone else's conversations. Efficient waitress who was quite friendly, we had a courteous check that our meals were ok. Meals were ok - guessing chips were frozen, portions good size and meals nice and hot. My meat (roast chicken) was nice but quite dry so maybe I should have asked about sauces or gravy for it. Rest of meals were nice, we'd rate as quite good. Would like to give 3.5 but rating on TA doesn't allow.

My fiancé & I stayed here for one night while attending the Eistedfordd. The location is fantastic, just 10 minutes drive out of Llangollen town, and on the right side of the Eistedfordd site to avoid the traffic queues. It's also just 10 minutes drive to the top of the scenic Horseshoe Pass. The building is quaint. The welcome from staff is warm & friendly. The breakfast is superb quality. However, we were disappointed to be given a small room overlooking the side of the hotel, with no views, even though the hotel did not appear to be full. The bed was very comfortable, but there was not much space for us to access the wardrobe. The shower room was tiny & did not have any hooks or rails to store the towels. We were also surprised that the bar had closed early, so we could not get a drink when we returned from the Eistedfordd at 10:30 pm.Overall, this hotel is worth a visit due to the stunning location, but perhaps make a special request for a front facing room & double check the bar opening times.

I have driven past the "Famous" Britannia Inn on many occasions and often wondered what made its claim to fame was. Finding it actually open we pulled in for lunch. Passing through the porch and turning right we found ourselves in the land of the little people. Maybe I am exaggerating but all the furniture looked small to me. It was all adequate for my six foot frame but a bit disconcerting, still it meant they could people in. We had a nice pub meal a pint of something forgettable and went on our way. The Britannia Inn is quite a different place to stay but a great experience. We have just returned from an 8 week trip around UK & Ireland using 41 different B&Bs and thoroughly enjoyed our night here overlooking the Dee River Valley. The inn dates back to AD1642 when it was a group of cottages used by the monks from nearby Valle Crucis Abbey. As a result it now has numerous narrow passageways which twist & turn with low sloping ceilings in places & exposed beams in the rooms providing a unique charm. Our room was very clean and comfortable with a great bed and large en suite with shower over the bath. Our host Ann was a warm and friendly person who was happy to chat and to do everything possible to ensure we had a great time.We enjoyed a delicious meal in the dining room with great service and a fantastic breakfast with many of the items sourced from local suppliers. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer but definitely recommend the Britannia Inn for accommodation and meals.Thank you Ann!! Tried the Britannia Inn for the first time. The atmosphere was warm and friendly and the place was very clean and tidy. Both my wife and I ordered the steak pie and it was well cooked, with plenty of steak, topped by an unusual but delicious pastry. This was accompanied by chunky chips, peas and salad. Watch the chips, as due to their size they seem to retain their heat and you could end up with a burnt mouth. Perhaps a couple of pounds dearer than your standard pub price but the quality made it well worth the extra. Drinks were reasonably priced and service was quick. A very good experience.

After a few more minutes waiting we were finally acknowledged and or drink order taken, I ordered a half pint of bitter and my wife a glass of wine, I was told that the John Smiths that I ordered would be drawn from the other bar, ok I said but then I noticed that the lady was holding a pint glass in her hand !!!! I had lasagne and a pint, my mate a delicious Cumberland sausage and mash - though the food was 'good' as opposed to 'excellent' standard, it more than made up for any of this with the situation of the inn, the reasonable price, and good service. Been here lots of times, family oriented pub and guesthouse the owner Always makes you Very welcome, the staff are all friendly and helpful always glad to be of service and give a hand to all.The prices are Very reasonable and the food is Excelent, all food is of local produce from the area. The rooms are all clean and tidy every time. Tea and coffee replenished every day and the beds are the best nights sleep anyone could wish for...We even go out of our way to call in for our Sunday lunch even though it's about 60miles out of the way, we have taken family and friends who have all Loved it so much that they have also gone back time and again... Small is best.

We were the only people in the pub, it was just before 7 in the evening. Poor selection of lagers but OK for beers. Poor on atmosphere although this may have been due to no other customers. Service was good, food was OK but certainly nothing special.

Lovely menu with plenty of choice....staff very welcoming and friendly.I had the fish pie, it was very nice, but the fish did lack in texture and taste. My other half had the lasagne which was very tasty, but very sloppy. he commented that he needed a spoon to eat it. The sides were really lovely and the portions were good. Lovely place so will be visiting again soon.

Had a late lunch there. The staff were polite and generally helpful.WE had Lasagne and Chicken Curry. Both 'filled a gap' but that is all. The chicken was somewhat over cooked and it was not very tasty. The young girls serving were pleasant but we did need to have ask for cutlery to eat.For the price we did not expect Gourmet food but to have good quality food. It was below par.

My favourite place to eat in Llangollen, delicious food (especially their steaks!) and friendly service. Would have no hesitation in recommending this place to anyone looking for a good place to eat. Keep up the good work! :)

My partner and I visited this inn purely by chance while on a several hundred mile drive home from North Wales. We needed a filling meal to boost our morales for the road ahead, and the job couldn't have been done better!I had the cod and chips while my partner ordered the lamb shanks. Our plates were heaving under the very generous helpings served to us. My meal was faultless, lovely fresh tasting fish with excellent chips. His lamb was out of this world, perfectly soft and moist. We were both delighted with our lunches. The interior of the pub was beautiful, however we opted to eat outside to snatch some late September sun. We could hear trickling water fountains all around us and were happy to see the beautiful window boxes filled with colourful flowers. It was a most enjoyable meal, and did indeed prepare us well for the road ahead. Thanks very much I hope to return whenever we next visit the area!

Unfortunately this is an establishment that lacks flair, vision, charm and quality. The food is undistinguished - sandwiches with cheap white bread and lurid orange processed cheese, and roast dinners of the school variety, complete with over-cooked vegetables. You get the picture. This is a beautiful location, with so very much potential. At present, it isn't worth pulling in on your journey to or from the Horseshoe Pass.

£6.50 for a sandwich and handful of chips. At that price you wouldn't expect limp processed bread, cheese that was so orange and tasteless and coleslaw that was more mayonnaise than anything else. Very disappointing.

We enjoyed our one night stay at The Britannia Inn on the whole and the beautiful view insured that I would probably return. Just as a minor critic I would say that the bed I stopped in was comparable to one of the lovely sticks of rock that the quaint independent shops sell in the town...nice to look at, but 'break-your-teeth' hard!

Ate here with family on our way home from a day out. Plenty of choice on the menu, and the food arrived quickly. All our meals were tasty and the portions were generous. Service was friendly and attentive.

I had a "luxury fish pie", it was indeed a fish pie and it was nice.Location is nice. But really, is it the "infamous" Britannia inn, or just another Britannia inn?

Food very good, only thing was my grandson wanted gammon but they didn't have any. He went for the steak instead. He really enjoyed it, he's a fussy eater

We stayed here for a stag weekend and the staff were great, the atmosphere was great, and we were super impressed with the food, especially breakfast (veggie brioche - trust me). The hotel was a bit wonky but the beds were comfy, the biscuits were topped up, and the showers were hot. We'd definitely stay again. Thanks Gales!

Hello there ! Just ordered a home delivery fish & chips for 2 persons. Food was great but sadly they don’t add lemon and tartar sauce ! So a bit plain to taste !
