Chatwin's Bakery, Carvery & Coffee Shop in Denbighshire

Early afternoon bit to eat. Visit 07/02/24. Enjoyed a roast beef,stuffing and horseradish bap.....flowed by a tasty coffee....The bap was filled with tender and succulent beef and was scrumptious The coffee was also pleasant. Recommended

Such a shame and hope its a one off. Just bought a turkey bap and a beef bap, usually they have loads of nice cooked onion included. They ran out of onions at 1pm (lunch time!) and just the plain meat in a bread roll and was charged £13.50 for these two rolls. I think under the circumstances it could have been reduced a bit as it was an expensive bun in the end.

Called in for a quick coffee and a sandwich. Very busy but managed to find a table. Ordered a sandwich and coffee and unfortunately found a little piece of packing in the filling. I took it out and ate the sandwich / drank the coffee. It was a small enough piece to miss whilst the sandwich was being made.. Staff were all pleasant and very busy. I mentioned it to one of the staff purely to make them aware of the filling being ‘contaminated’ with a piece of plastic? Accidents happen. I paid a visit to the wc.. and when I came out Janet Jackson a member of staff came over and apologised profusely for the issue. There really was no need as the sandwich was lovely as was the coffee.. Molly also came over and was most apologetic… Offered me a free coffee and also a doughnut .. A lovely gesture which I initially refused but after a bit of convivial accepted. Thank you all of you .. I d happily come back . Service like this is hard to find .. Well done

Very poor quantities for the price of the food. The least amount of pork in a small roll I've ever seen and it cost £6. Never again.

Was driving through and had to stop as there were road works. Saw the amazing food in the window. Stopped and purchased food. Had a fully loaded Yorkshire pudding. Pork, bacon, sausage, stuffing and gravy. It was massive. The taste was out this world. Staff were very frieny.

I went in for a coffee as I had half an hour to wait for my bus, saw a sign for a lunch deal, A latte, bap and an eccles cake..was what I chose.I paid and was going to sit down, when I was told I could not, it was a take away deal only. That was not stated on the offer on the sign though. But I was shouted at, by the young ponytailed brunette. I said it is not stated on the offer! She shouted” and you didn’t ask”! So beware of that place, its not what you expect.

Very disappointed in this place, stoped for breakfast baps on our way to Scotland. Well the bread was stale and the bacon and sausage was cold. Absolutely terrible. I would not visit this place again plenty more better ones in Llangollen.

I am a regular visitor to this Llangollen shop and often visit during the morning ( I always have a giggle and a laugh with the ladies who are always smiling and happy to help). Today, I was running late thus decided to run in during the lunch time rush. As the shop was busy I stood back and watched as the ladies rushed around to complete orders, prep food, ensure there was enough food on display and make sure everyone was being served in the order they come into the shop while reman polite with a smile on there face for each customer. Never have I been shocked at the ill treatments of these ladies trying to do there job. I was utterly shocked at the verbal abuse these ladies where having to listen to, the lack of manners people where displaying. Shame on you all! When it came to my turn, the two ladies serving painted a smile and tried to remain undetected by what had happened. Sadly, I think that this occurrence is a one of. Thank you ladies for all that you do. Please know that you are all valued and appreciated.

I had turkey in a large yorkshire pud. It was tasty .... but ... the yorkshire pudding with turkey inside, was heated in a panini press. So ... what started life as a delicious looking puffy yorky, was now squashed flat :-( I thought it was expensive at £8 ... server did ask if I wanted extras ...but they weren't specified what they were (cranberry sauce, horseradish, fried onions etc). Apparently they are included in the price .... I woulda had cranberry sauce ! I got gravy with mine ... (instant), but must have been charged an extra 50p. Menu on table says £7.50 for 'Yorkshire Wrap' ... (including extras), but I was charged £8. The plate it was served on was small, so couldn't open out to pour on gravy. Tasty - but could have been a better experience !

Visited last week and thoroughly enjoyed the carvery bap and cappuccino served up. Really grateful to the staff (Janet?) for looking after us.

Excellent and generous with 3 slices of roast pork in a buttered roll with stuffing, apple sauce and generous crackling too. Well worth £6.50 from a very helpful young member of staff!

Enticed by the huge Yorkshire puddings on display in the window we went inside to buy some. Apparently they are not for sale unless you have them with pork, beef, sausage or bacon. I’m vegetarian so asked if I could have mine without meat. The short brunette woman tipped her head and rolled her eyes at me and refused to sell me a Yorkshire pudding without meat. She said they are not for sale. Hubby, who is not a vegetarian, had already ordered his with sausage and bacon so we paid for his and left. He however ended up not eating his after the first couple of bites claiming it tasted nothing like it looked. To use his words “quite disgusting”. And just to be clear, this all took place on the Tuesday after Christmas when the whole town was literally empty. I’ve no idea why a bakery would want to not sell its baked goods. But she really seems to hate vegetarians.

Disgraceful food for money and terrible service, 2 slices of pork thrown on a doughy barm with a spit of sauce, worst sandwich ever had! £10 for 2 barms thrown in the bin.

We chose to stop off prior to a big garden clearance job, and ordered two "breakfast rolls" and coffees. Rather dismissive and unpleasant woman served us and we sat indoors in a stark and chilly atmosphere. I questioned the ludicrously large bill for such a small order, and was told that "the menu hadn't been updated to reflect indoor seated pricing" (Covid, cop-out, apparently !) No apologies or adjustments offered. Same order would cost approx. £6 or £7 at a Greggs outlet, for comparison. No big deal....Just another ex-customer(s)

We went daily to have our lunch made... The choice of fillings and salads are excellent. The staff very friendly and efficient. Would recommend !

Fresh varied and generous portions. Fulfilled every persons taste. Staff friendly and efficient . Went back for take outs too.

For the lovely breakfast, and coffee. I found the staff to be very pleasant and attentive , and was surprised to be served my breakfast so quickly .The cafe and toilets were spotlessly clean, and situated near the car park . Ideal .

Passing through Llangollen and popped in for a coffee. Not going well. Chaotic queuing, dirty table, tasteless coffee served in chipped mug. I don’t think we will return....

The food was delicious and made my day, I have always loved Chatwin’s and when I came in to this one I was very impressed with the service.

Stopped here today for breakfast with my wife,mum and dad .friendly staff and excellent full breakfast with a nice cup of tea.reasonable pricing .tables are a little bit small for a group ,but we had no problems today .

I was on a day trip in llangollen, i called in chatwins for something to eat, i was suprised , the food was lovely , i had turkey and stuffing roll,good value, a great pot of tea and to follow a lovely caramel fudge choc...

We needed a quick lunch and after a short wait in the queue, our food arrived quickly and was fresh, hot and very tasty. Soup was lovely with a decent sized roll and pot of real butter and sandwiches were generously filled. Cakes looked lovely...

Quite pricey. Lovely breakfast though and tasty sausages. Had an egg custard which was a little watery. They're selection of meats ways looked great when I walked past a few times

Attitude and friendliness of staff : Appalling. Value for money: Whatever you do don't sit down it will mean you get served items that you didn't even ask for and charged double. Cleanliness: Fithy is the only word to describe it. Not impressed...

Llangollen is a small town & very easily explored. Parking right in the middle is cheap & very accessible. One is soon rubbing shoulders with Americans, Dutch & German tourists who have disgorged from high-end executive coaches & the town has a very international feel. Catch-penny shops & inumerable cafes abound, but they all add to the general genteel feel of the town. Our cafe/restaurant of choice was Chatwins for a simple lunch. It's quite small & caters for takeaway trade & sit-down meals. Staff are friendly & bustle around quicly & efficiently. A simple lunch was much enjoyed.

Have become a bit of a regular to this place due to work. As such, stop off for breakfast frequently and have to say the team to a great job. Excellent customer service and staff seem to brighten up the atmosphere with their cheerful manner.

When in Llangollen and want a breakfast or a snack to take away then this is the place. cakes coffee and a lot more makes your mouth water when in here

Dogs not allowed, but they appear to prefer to keep it a secret via signage on the door/window. Their preference being to tell one NO in a more direct manner from within the shop.

Whenever we stop off at Llangollen we drop in to Chatwins. A great range of hot and cold snacks and drinks. We can recommend a visit.

The food served is absolutely delicious, I had one of the best sausage barms I have ever had. The coffee was also exceptionally good.

On a recent short break to lovely LLangollen we went into Chatwin`s by chance, for lunch. The Staff were polite & friendly. The premises were busy & the table we found was clean. Amazing food ! I had the roast beef Yorkshire pud wrap, with horseradish sauce, gravy & onions....WOW ! a huge portion of perfectly cooked beef, the whole thing was delicious. My Wife had the pork batch & was equally pleased with the quality , freshness & quantity. The coffee was nice, too. We had the tasty, freshly cooked breakfast the next day & if we`d had a longer break, would have visited to eat here every day. If you`re in Llangollen, don`t walk past this cafe ! The Staff were really involved & the place looked spotless ( we noticed the tables were cleared of empty plates etc, really quickly, always a good sign). Living in the Midlands, we both wish Chatwins would open a branch near us. We had no idea Chatwins was a chain until we checked afterwards. The cakes looked really nice , too. We were impressed with the large range of items too choose from. Whenever we visit Cheshire or North Wales, we will look for a Chatwin`s from now on.

What a beautiful Cafe, cake shop. Stopped for breakfast before climbing Snowdon and the food was amazing, really lovely staff and shop was lovely inside and so clean. Had a great experience there and will definitely eat there again next time I'm that way. You must try this shop if you are ever near.

We visited twice during our time staying near Llangollen and had the full range of Yorkshire pudding wraps between the five of us. They were very tasty, the pork one being a favourite! We also had some lovely pork and apple pasty’s and a really nice chicken pie. Great food.

From outside it looks like typical quick stop restaurant, but the experience inside is very positive! Reasonably priced, quick service, large portions, hot food, very tasty coffee (I'm VERY demanding about coffee). We spend around £20 for what you see on the photo, great price for the great food and service. Definitely worth visiting.

I visited today and bought 2 turkey barms for lunch; they were delicious! I used Chatwins tokens that had been gained from a disastrous breakfast at the Upton, Chester branch. The 2 young women serving in Llangollen could not have been more pleasant and helpful and have renewed my faith in this brand; at least at branch level; thank you

We ate Sunday late lunch in here and it was quite pricey for what we had. The food was ok but the cutlery, glasses and tables were all really dirty. The server was very informal with us and forgot half our order. It could be that they had just had a very busy lunch period and we got them on a bad day but I was unimpressed with our experience.

Called in with the family for coffee and cake. Asked for the "deal of the day" which was on view on each table to be told it was only for flavoured coffees (not what it said on the card??). After much debate, abandoned the offer and bought coffe and cake. No gingerbreads " as we do not have a delivery on Sunday". Other items were not available. Pity, the food looked good and the place is very popular but we will not be rushing back.

This was one of the stops on our mystery trip . We live in Nantwich so are familiar with Chatwins who are based there. This is a nice clean little cafe that does cakes pastries and light meals .it was a quick visit which we enjoyed

Hubby and me used to live on the Staffordshire/Cheshire border (we now live in North Wales) so we are familiar with the Chatwins brand (a long-standing family business). On a recent Tuesday afternoon, we went into their Llangollen shop and bought 1 small egg custard tart and 1 medium-sized egg custard tart (to takeaway) which together cost £3.45 (paid cash). If you eat inside their Cafe, they charge you a lot more for the same thing. We sat on a nearby bench to eat them. The pastry and filling were moist and enjoyable.

Stopped off whilst passing through Llangollen for a lite snack. It was just gone 4pm walked in Chatwins I thought they were closed as I was greeted by a member of the staff moping the floor. I asked if you they were closed to the woman just glaring at me no reply.

Was hungry so called in to chatwins we had two pork and stuffing baps on brown and two americanos really lovely went down well.

We only stopped for a drink, but the food on offer certainly looked tempting. Bringing the coffee's to the table (after we ordered at the till) was a nice touch, and quite useful as they have crammed a fair few tables and chairs in there making moving around difficult!

We was walking through the town when we see all the food and joints of meat in the window. We couldn’t get past the shop without going in. I had a pork, stuffing crackling York shire pudding wrap. It was very big I didn’t need much else that day.

We were passing through the main street when we came across Chatwins. At a instant glance we all decided this would be our lunch time stop.

Burnt bacon, beans that were cold contributed to what was a rather laughable full english breakfast, for 7.50 this wasnot worth it, the staff didnt have any customer service skills and the floor looked as if it still had yesterdays or even last weeks dirt on it. A poor experience in a lovely town

This bakery does the most amazing sandwiches/rolls. We picked up our lunch for our river trips each day. A good price and delicious food.

We popped in to get some cakes and pastries to take home from a lovely day out in Llangollen. Unfortunately we stood there with no queue in front of us like lemons. Every member of staff ignored us. They were taking things out of plastic wrappers and putting them on the shelves and generally milling about, doing everything BUT serve customers. Not one of them said they would serve us in a moment or even acknowledge our existence. After feeling invisible for some time I actually asked for some service. They looked at me as if I was a problem and one woman who seemed very rude said they were are busy at the moment. I waited a little longer and then decided to walk out. We took our business elsewhere in fact to the bakery next door who were lovely, we won't be going there again or recommending them to any friends or family. The staff need customer service training. Shame because the food looked nice, they obviously don't want to sell it.

Just called here for a drink and saw some food so had to have some. I had a pork sandwich, my favourite and I couldn't believe it when it came, 3 large pieces of pork with not fat at all in a large breadcake and it was delicious. The bread was so soft and pork very tasty. My husband had some beef in a breadcake and loved it. What a place to come, you must try it.

While spend the morning with my grandson in Llangollen, we decided to have lunch at Chatwins, Jacob had a lovely Tuna and Sweetcorn roll with salad and crisps. I had a Ploughman’s lunch which was amazing! I would give 10/10 for service and friendliness.

Came down for a couple of days and we headed into the town to see what was on offer, the shop window looked great with plenty on offer, I cannot fault the food, however we wanted to sit inside but due to the price difference we decided to take away.. £1.65 I believe to take away a bottle of coke which is the average anywhere but to increase the price to £2.15 to sit in was a bit extreme. Generally sitting in price due to tax is 10p extra, so paying 50p extra was a big no no. Especially considering that was 50p extra just for a coke, if I was to sit in with the rest of my order I would have been paying £2.00+ in total which I felt was out of the question for where it was and what it was. Staff was helpful and knew what they were doing and also good customer service, just a shame about the big sitting in fee. But like I said, food was great, full of flavour and I would highly recommend if you were to take away, however if you wanted to sit in, there’s other food outlets with facilities and don’t charge as much :)

Really annoys me every time we go here as the staff always get order wrong and are rude every time. I just don't get why they feel the need to not make you feel welcome. I have had to bite my tongue on a few occasions as I hate ppl who don't use manners! They don't cost a thing but their baps do actually cost quite a lot. Last time we went we Sat in side and had ordered the Ham sandwich which came then we realised if your eating in then you should get crisps salad and coleslaw on the side. When I questioned the girl about this she asked me if I'd asked for it when ordering but surely if it's stated on the menu they should know this and you should not have to ask. They prob make a fortune and that is mostly down to tourists and so the least they can do is greet their customers with a smile.

Friendly staff. Efficient service and quality ingredients in the breakfast. Good value for money. Would visit again.

Over 30 degrees centigrade outside, but the car's air-con kept us sane. When we arrived in Llangollen, the first thing you notice is the number of Welsh speakers around. We spotted Chatwins which we have enjoyed in other locations. We were warmly greeted in Welsh as we were taken as locals, but the second language (English) kicked in immediately. The café had a great selection of hot food but not for us this day. We chose bespoke sandwiches & cold drinks. They soon arrived & were marvellous, reasonably priced too. When we left the café, we had no option but to retreat to the car & the coolness that it offered. We enjoyed our trip into Wales.

Food and cakes are lovely, option to eat in or take out. Friendly staff. However, with i enjoyed the food it is a bit pricey.

Whatever happened to service with a smile??! The girl who was supposed to be taking our order wouldn't look up from the till screen, grunted when asked any questions, got the order wrong and wordlessly slammed down the teapots and cups when she brought our food and drinks over. There was no 'service' involved, just straightforward rudeness. I'd taken my mum there on a treat day out in Llangollen and I was so upset that this girl had spoilt it.

I frequently use your Ruthin shop where may I add the staff are attentive and excel at customer service but unfortunately not in Llangollen!! Lady serving walked straight past myself and another customer and proceeded to serve someone she new who had come into the shop after me! Called customer by name so obvious she new him as he said hi Lisa can I have. Lisa had totally blanked myself and other customer not very professional. Lisa needs to have a reminder no customer no sale no job no wage and a smile wouldn't go amiss!I did eventually get served by another lady who was very nice but don't think very professional to keep calling me love.

Me and my husband has been coming on a Friday to Llangolen early in a morning to mind our grandson we call in for a breakfast before we go and pick him up we are from St. Helens and they don't have a chatwins there never been disappointed with any meal we have had had lunch the other week my husband had a ploughmans lunch it was the best he has ever had the staff are always pleasant and everything looks fresh if you are visiting Llangollen would recommend a visit

DIsplay of food very enticing and we were not disappointed by the freshly made baps and sausage rolls. Service was very efficient and staff do have a sense of humour!

As visitors to Llangollen we never miss the opportunity to pop in for a cooked breakfast. Prices are average. not too expensive.Staff are always friendly, the place is always clean.My only little niggle is when its busy in the Café area you cant move, as the tables are packed in, especially if you have a buggy or shopping bags with you.

Waited for service which took forever. We only wanted a bacon and sausages bap. The woman said she won't be a minute and after 5 minutes of waiting she went and served someone else that came in after me. She called that customer by name and this is unacceptable. I live near Llangollen and think her regulars are more important than her other customers! First time using this shop and definitely the last!!!!

Stopped in Llangollen for a mid-journey break, and was delighted to find Chatwin's selling hot food at 10.00 am on a Sunday morning! Smashing bacon roll (I had difficulty finishing mine) and OH said his sausage was excellent. Great value for money.

It was the smell outside this shop that drew us in = it was delicious.Pastries, hot savoury snacks, drinks of all kinds - there was so much choice and it was hard to choose.You can eat in or take away - we took our hot snacks away and wandered up the street in the sunshine munching through our delicious savoury pastry.It was yum!

You are spoilt for choice in Llangollen when it comes to bakeries and Chatwins has an excellent range of oggies, pies etc.Well worth a look.

The food is great, simple British fare. The staff are chatty but not fussy. And you can watch the world go by. I'm veggie but the rest of my family rave about the breakfast baps and the pork and stuffing in a bun. I prefer the cakes, especially the Bath Buns!

So good we went back for more. Great French lemon tart too. Busy and efficient , we will return soon.

Part of a small chain (we also often use the Wrexham branch) of a very popular baker and cafe firm. Good value.

We popped in here and couldn't get in with the pram so had a little walk round and came back later. I had the roast pork on a roll, it was gorgeous, melt in your mouth! Hubby had a sausage butty and our toddler had beans and sausage with toast. With drinks it was only £16 so very cheap lunch out and great service. Only thing it needs is a bigger cafe/seating area.
