The best restaurants serving British food in Annandale East and Eskdale Dumfries & Galloway Lowlands

Estábamos en nuestro camino de vuelta a Escocia y pasamos por este camino, un poco de la ruta habitual. Buscando en línea en el mapa parecía que había muy poco en el camino de lugares para parar a comer algo y luego de repente encontramos la cafetería de la vieja escuela. Es un maravilloso hallazgo, le ofrecen un servicio a la zona y actúa como un centro para eventos sociales (por el calendario que juding se veía muy atractivo, pescado y patatas fritas y juegos de mesa o de una comida mexicana!). El servicio era muy amable y la comida era muy buena, tenemos la sopa de almendras con un sándwich. Hay juegos de mesa, revistas e incluso un bombín por si acaso son ciclismo! En el futuro me gustaría ser muy contentos de tomar el desvío a la carretera este a visitar de nuevo. Merece la pena quedarse en si estás en la zona.

What a lovely group of people offering a fantastic service. Food was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend.

We stopped in for lunch and felt bad that the kitchen was just about to close. They were lovely though and didn't rush us. My friends weren't that hungry and decided to split a meal. They loved it so much that they ordered a second portion! I had a veggie burger, even knowing they can be dry and not great - this one was lovely. All the food seemed homemade.

Just had a lovely dinner and desert. Staying at motorhome sire next door so great location for users of the aire. Great value and lovely landlady.

Arrived without booking, as we were unfamiliar with the area, and although the restaurant itself was full, we were generously offered a table, albeit in the bar area, which we were happy to accept. It would have been quite possible that we might have had slow service, even forgotten, but nothing of the sort; we were promptly seated with menus, our orders taken, and our meals served, all without undue delay by friendly restaurant and bar staff. The food was simple but delicious and perfectly cooked, in generous portions, and all concerned should feel proud of their contributions to such an excellent experience. Bravo!

After a long journey & before visiting the Samye Ling Monastery we drove the extra 3 minutes into Eskdalemuir to the Old School community hub & cafe. Lovely coffee & a delicious fruit scone in the airy & welcoming cafe was just what we needed.

Popped in again a couple of times last week for some additions to my lunch. Staff great and cheery as always, pleased to see you, nothing is too much trouble. There was a queue but they get through it really quick with efficient service, but still chatting with customers and being personal, asking how their day was, what they were doing and actually interested in the answers. On shift those few days were Gordon, Devlin, Sadie, and Tracie. They're always so friendly and polite and ask how my little boy is. Definitely a credit to your team. I tried the Cornish pudding, which I'd never had before. Wish I'd tried it sooner. Was NOT disappointed, was absolutely lush! Might be a regular when I'm needing a sweet fix in the coming weeks.

Always a lovely trip here. Ordered the stack wrap and chips and a ham salad. Food was fantastic and looking forward to visiting again in the spring :)

We booked a table although as it was Tuesday it wasn’t necessary. My husband immediately ordered the steak and stout pie, I had pork medallions. If you don’t enjoy a plateful- don’t bother. We were hungry and we enjoyed the well cooked well presented meals we got I started with sweet potato and roast pepper soup- hot hot temperature and my husband finished with a cheesecake pudding. We were waited on by a most charming young Moroccan man; cheerful and efficient and a pleasure to chat to. A very pleasant evening out

Was greeted at the counter with a very rude staff member, whom very cheeky “no more hot food “ , there is ways to speak to the customer and that was not it . It was our first visit there and it will be the last

This restaurant is part of Smiths hotel at Gretna Green. We were in the final days of our holiday in Scotland and wanted to have a special meal. We were staying at the hotel and saw this had good reviews. Well it didn’t disappoint. It was good that you could pick and mix from the a la carte menu and the bar menu. Every course was very good. Because we had courses from both menus I didn’t think it was too expensive. The service was good although it was very busy with other events going on. The staff were kept busy but were still attentive to our needs. Would recommend if you want something special or just for an evening meal.

A group of seven of us stayed here for a team building event. The hotel was lovely and the staff were incredible, nothing seemed to be a problem! We had breakfast and dinner and all the food was excellent.

Called in here for a bite to eat and overall very happy, bit of a limited menu but each managed to find something suitable, service very good and friendly and the food was very nice and tasty special mention to the sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was fantastic. Sadly I have been to a couple of eateries in the gretna area in the past which have fallen below an acceptable level for me but this is not one of them and would certainly return here.

Absolutely awful bacon and sausage almost raw and bacon very salty. potato scone burnt. Wouldn't eat there again

Recently came here for coffee and pastry. Service was great, pastrie was good but coffee was terrible. Perfectly located right near the highway near the shopping center.
