We booked this Hotel for the visit to the Lockerbie memorial garden and from the moment we arrived we were made so welcome and could not do enough for us. The Room was amazing and the view so picturesque, The whole hotel is spotless and our room was so clean and so comfortable we had the best nights sleep in a very long time. The bar is so friendly and everyone so welcoming. The Dining area is first class and the food (Evening and Breakfast Meals) were exceptional and high Quality, all the staff cannot do enough for you and so friendly. We have stayed in plenty 5 star hotels and none compared to this little Gem. We go as far as saying this is the best hotel we have ever stayed in so far. How this is only a 3 star I will never know. We will definitely be booking here again…. Thank-you to all staff…

What a find! On a long drive Suffolk to Scotland - hours of traffic on a hot sunny day - M74 mind numbing - mid afternoon - weary - looked for services to rest for half an hour - couldn't see any sign - stopped off at Ecclefechan on the off chance. The world stood still in this quiet, quaint village - no strident noises - no lorries - gentle birdsong, pretty Spring gardens - no sign of café - pub shut - discovered the Cressfield Hotel at the South end of the village - AN OASIS OF CALM. A warm reception from the barman (a pleasant and enthusiastic County Tyrone lad) - generous (3 cups full) pot of tea for £1.80 - a quiet, comfortable window seat overlooking a well maintained garden - everything spotless - all just half a mile from the throbbing motorway. What a find!

We had a friendly welcome on arrival and picket up our key. We booked directly on the hotel website and got a much better price than with a third party site. The room and en-suite were lovely. The room itself was very large. We have a young child so he was very happy! Breakfast was great. They do gluten free toast and the eggs were lovely. They were so kind and understanding at breakfast too. It’s just off the motorway so we’d definitely stay again.

We decided to try an independent hotel instead of our usual premier inn or similar for one night to break our long trip south from the far north of Scotland to Yorkshire and had some good points and some not so good. On arrival we liked the look of the place and our room was large at the front overlooking the gardens. The en-suite bathroom was a little dark having no window and only a bath with shower above, better really to lose the bath and have a good size walk in shower. We booked a table for dinner for 8.15 and had a drink in the bar then went through to the dining room to order dinner, the first thing we noticed in the dining room was Radio 2 being played quite loud news and all, not really good for setting a nice ambiance for dinner. We had our dinner all served quickly, I ordered a bottle of red wine which was brought to the table and unceremoniously plonked down on the table in front of me unopened! Maybe in a cafe at cafe prices this would be ok but not in a dining room at dinner charging restaurant prices ? We noticed all during our meal the tables around us were being laid up for breakfast. We had finished our meal by 9.25 and were enjoying the rest of the wine and chatting when we were ordered rather than requested to leave the dining room and take our remaining drink to the bar. We got up and went to our room rather annoyed. I have never bern kicked out of a Premier Inn restaurant after just over an hour so next time it’s back to our usual chain hotel stays. It’s a pity because with more attention and staff training it would have been a nice stay.

Delighted to make this review the 100th 5 star review!! Stayed here for 2 nights with our dog in a delightfully large bedroom which had direct access to outside which made life easier for sneaking out with the 4 legged pal. Lovely decor, fantastic views from the dining room windows, very friendly staff (and a very quick witted and entertaining owner) and tasty breakfast. Ate in the bar one evening and the portions were substantial and piping hot and yum! Definitely would be delighted to stay again there if we find ourselves up that way again. Oh, and forgot to say, we found it exceptionally good value for the size of the room and the room facilities.

The flavours complemented and augmented the lamb beautifully. I think this was one if the tastiest lamb dishes I have had. The steak my partner had never fails to impress. These main courses along with the super starters and desserts make The Cressfield Hotel a worthy destination. The accommodation is also lovely and throughout the hotel the staff are welcoming and strive to please. The atmosphere is informal but retains the elegance of the beautiful building. Our only wee critisism would be that the curtains could do with blackout blinds as the existing curtains let in a LOT of light so may put some people off their sleep. The shower was cosy and the towels were big and fluffy. We had a bar meal and it was delicious, the rice pudding was especially good and not something you see on every menu. The chicken was delicious and we both enjoyed our meals very much. The breakfast was also first class and set us up nice;ly for the day.Staff are all very friendly and couldnt do enough to make us feel welcome. We will definately be back on our next trip down South!

My husband and I recently stayed for a friend's wedding and I have to say this place will be hard to beat. This has a lovely country manor style with a very homely friendly feel. We stayed 2 nights, we ate a bar meal on the 1st night, very well presented and could not fault the food and then attended the wedding the next day, again the food was excellent and beautifully presented. We actually live quite local and was staying because of the wedding but would absolutely come back again for a meal. I have to give the biggest credit to Nigel and his staff, it has been a while since I have been somewhere that the staff are as good as these were, nothing was too much trouble, very polite and very attentive but also with a great sense of humour so we were able to have a bit of a joke and banter with them. This hotel is set in grounds with stunning views and although our room looked as if it may be one of the older style rooms it was perfectly adequate and done the job. We ate breakfast both mornings and again no complaints and plenty of variety. To be honest I don't think there is anything I can criticise about this place, it's a little hidden gem. Nigel and staff just keep doing what you are already doing as you do a fantastic job.

The cressfield...what can I say? Other than WOW !!!!! ❤ We were given a weekend break here as an early wedding present from family members that live there in ecclefechan, we had an AMZING EXPERIENCE. Everyone is so welcoming. As soon as we checked in the locals were treating us as family! Nigel the owner was a fantastic host, nothing was too much trouble and he was there making sure we had a a fabulous time. (Which we did) We were treated to room 4 and it was absolutely gorgeous! Spotless and gleaming! The views were overlooking the mountain and were spectacular...the bathroom was to die for. Beautiful big bath and shower The bed was out of this world! Soo comfortable...you really have to experience it for yourself to even be able to imagine the luxury that we had felt..did not want leave. This hotel was so homely and just perfect. We had breakfast included in our stay and myself and fiancé both opted for the Full Scottish Breakfast.... (Never had tried hagis before) It was stunning!! Perfectly cooked egg's..everything was faultless and fresh! We had a bar meal on the Saturday evening and wow that too was perfect! It was the burger and chip's. The burger itself was mouth watering and cooked just to how we liked it. Ian the young boy behind the bar along with Nigel were so polite and helpful at all time's...I cannot wait to go back after our wedding to enjoy another break with amazing friendly loving people! We were spoilt for everything here. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for families, couples, singles, everyone!! Made some fantastic memories and friends... AMAZING! AMAZING! AMAZING!!!!!

Myself and my Mother travelled to ecclefechan last night from Newton Stewart for a family surprise Birthday party. The Cressfield Hotel had been recommended to us by the person organising the party. It is without a doubt a beautiful , well decorated hotel in very nice and very peaceful grounds. The room we were in was a twin room and it was beautiful spacious and immaculately clean. The staff were all very friendly, welcoming and helpful. we had both our evening meal and our breakfast in their restaurant and the food was first class. we both had a really lovely stuffed cod loin dish which really was out of this world and breakfast was very good to. would very much recommend this Hotel to anyone passing through ecclefechan.

We have stopped here several times over the years whilst on our travels. As well as being a hotel, The Cressfield has an excellent bar meal menu and full restaurant facilities. The food is very good and the service always friendly. Situated just off the M74 motorway between junctions 20 and 19, the hotel provides an opportunity to take a break from driving without the hustle and bustle of the usual motorway services.

We returned to the cressfield hotel and had a lovely stay again, the staff were very nice and the newly renovated room was very nice! - Looking forward to our next visit, it's in a great location if your traveling north or south!*to hotel owner though, did you know this is listed as just a restaurant on tripadvisor rather than a hotel?, might be worth while to list as a hotel too so others can find this wonderful hotel.

We stayed for a most pleasant three nights and, whenever we return to the Scottish Borders, shall make a beeline for the Cressfield, which is located at the southern end of the village. Nigel and his staff demonstrate the right blend of hospitality, efficiency and friendliness; the meals we had were delicious, the bedroom comfortable and quietly conducive to a good night's sleep.

We decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary with a nice meal in this hotel.A country house hotel that is just that and not pretending to be something it's not. As soon as you enter the building you feel the warm atmosphere surrounding you with the sound of happy customers coming from the lounge bar on your left and the Dining Room on your right. A young waitress approached us right away and quickly showed us to a table. Ian the hotel manager arrived immediately to offer us the menus and took our drinks order, his attentiveness and courtesy was unbelievable as indeed was the service we received from the two young waitresses. The food arrived quickly and was throughly enjoyed by both my wife and myself with the ever attentive staff answering effortlessly to our every whim. Indeed you could often hear the phrase ' no problem' being emitted to the requests of the other diners. All in all this is a lovely country house hotel with food to match and service to be proud off. We would have no hesitation in dining here again and can only look forward to our next visit.

A real find. Stopped for lunch on our way down to Lytham St. Anne's for the weekend. As the weekend was a birthday treat for my dad, I wanted to find somewhere a bit traditional. Had a lovely lunch, dad had chicken stuffed with applewood smoked cheddar, with smoked bacon in a mushroom sauce and fondant potatoes, which he polished off, my boyfriend had lentil soup and steak pie, and thoroughly enjoyed both, and I went for the potato and spinach curry, which was lovely and spicy. The food was good value for money, and the hotel was very welcoming and spotlessly clean. But very quiet, sadly, because they deserve to do plenty of business. Lovely, trim grounds and seeming to be off the beaten track while in reality a stone's throw from the motorway. Well worth a visit.

My wife and I stayed here for a couple of nights and tries the restaurant on our last night. We were not disappointed. A fantastic 3 course meal of Soup, Steak and Sticky Toffee Pudding. All fresh using local produce and cooked really well. Steak was really tasty, although would be nice to have the option of a Fillet too. Sticky Toffee Pudding was quite a big portion (that's not a complaint!) moist and just simply fantastic. All for a very reasonable £56 including 2 rounds of drinks. Staff were superb, so sincere and nothing was problem. Best service I have had in a restaurant. Now we know when going south we can great food at an even better price. Urge you all to not think twice if going by and try it out, you won't be dissapointed

A super bed and breakfast with a lovely vegan curry and home baked ecclefechan tart in the bar which had an open fire. Steve and Mary looked after us like a mum and a big brother. Could not do enough for us including a very welcome lift to and from hoddom Bridge as we were walking the annandale way. And a packed lunch to order. Will recommend to all, especially walkers.

This restaurant is part of Smiths hotel at Gretna Green. We were in the final days of our holiday in Scotland and wanted to have a special meal. We were staying at the hotel and saw this had good reviews. Well it didn’t disappoint. It was good that you could pick and mix from the a la carte menu and the bar menu. Every course was very good. Because we had courses from both menus I didn’t think it was too expensive. The service was good although it was very busy with other events going on. The staff were kept busy but were still attentive to our needs. Would recommend if you want something special or just for an evening meal.

We ate here and finished our meal, the waitress cleared away and we decided we'd have another round of drinks before leaving. We waited 5, 10 minutes and the waitress never came back. I went in search of someone but couldn't find our waitress. I didn't like to open the doors to the kitchen. We waited another 5 minutes and my wife said 'this is ridiculous' and went off in pursuit. She found our waitress in the bar (was she watching TV, did she fancy the barman?) and asked if we could get some service. The waitress said 'the restaurant is closed', as if we were being unreasonable in expecting to be served a round of drinks. No, the restaurant isn't closed if you've still got people sitting at a table you're serving and you haven't asked them if they want a dessert or offered them the bill but simply buggered off. So we said OK, can we just pay the bill. Which we did, and obviously didn't leave tip. We won't be going back.

We had a day out yesterday and ended up here for coffee. The sign at the entrance said the cafe was open until 4.30. As it was just before 4 when we parked round the back we thought we had plenty of time. However when we entered the cafe I approached the counter to order I was told in no uncertain terms that they were shut. When I pointed out that their sign had said it was open until 4.30 the rude assistant pointed to the sign on the counter which said last orders 4. I said it was 4 and we only wanted coffees she said 'well we're shut'. You would think that after 2 years of pandemic that businesses would be grateful for any money they could get, well that's not the case in this cafe. We had been going to buy some plants but left empty handed and on the way out told the assistant in the shop that we wouldn't be back. Their loss is someone else's gain
