The Dining Room at Eskdale Hotel in Dumfries & Galloway

We booked a table although as it was Tuesday it wasn’t necessary. My husband immediately ordered the steak and stout pie, I had pork medallions. If you don’t enjoy a plateful- don’t bother. We were hungry and we enjoyed the well cooked well presented meals we got I started with sweet potato and roast pepper soup- hot hot temperature and my husband finished with a cheesecake pudding. We were waited on by a most charming young Moroccan man; cheerful and efficient and a pleasure to chat to. A very pleasant evening out

So disappointed. We booked a table for a 40th (we were here 10 years before, so it was meant to be a bit of a tradition). We were shown to a table in the bar, when we had expected to be in the restaurant, given it was a special ocassion. After looking forward to a meal as good as we'd had in the past, it was disappointing for that not be the case. The young waiter was very polite and attentive. The drinks were in warm glasses, and the food was utterly dire. I ordered a medium steak, which was so tough I could have nailed it to the bottom of my shoe, the chips were hot, but the rest of the food on the plate was freezing. Not sure how a professional chef can't manage to cook a tomato, a mushroom and some broccoli, but there you go. Hubby had scampi and chips...basically that was as exciting as it got. I could have cooked this meal better at home on a random Wednesday for our family of 7 and it would have been better than this. (It wasn't even busy!) The fact we had been here before and had such a great experience almost made it worse. Won't be returning.

I've just moved to the area, but have visited on a few occasions previously, for drinks and to meet pals. However, on my second night in the town myself, and a pal, who helped me move from South Wales decided we were somewhat hungry and didn't want a take away. So we went along through here. When we got in, I asked if they were still serving food, I was a little taken back to be told if we ordered quick we could get something. Fortunately though, another young lad came through and took our orders for food and drinks - wow! What amazing customer services and politeness he had. He was truly lovely. Orders taken and food arrived, we couldn't have found reason to complain if he tried. Not only was the food presentation fantastic, to the point you can taste it by looking at it, but the taste was exquisite too! I can honestly say I wasn't disappointed. Pity I didn't get the young lads name to name him with a thank you, again.

Ordered chicken with Drambuie sauce Chips were very strange Veg was not fresh Bisto Sauce baked onto the chicken again all signs of the ding technic Overpriced for what was served up Big pity as the place is nice and so were the staff Get a real chef as Langholm needs a good restaurant

Me and my partner stopped there for lunch and we were not disappointed, excellent food and great service. Highly recommended

Enjoyed every meal here, the hotel certainly has a well-deserved reputation for first class food and a great banter with the young polite and friendly staff was had by all, the younger members of staff are a credit to this hotel.

We used the cocktail bar restaurant and had an amazing meal. The food was beautifully presented and well cooked and the portion sizes were enough even for my hungry husband! The staff were knowledgeable and friendly (especially Louis). Recommend the Jura Sunset cocktail.

Well felt like we were seated in the naughty corner , despite booking it ahead . Food , nothing to write home about, suspect serious use of microwave. Not what I had hoped for my birthday celebration . Still wine was ok.

Just to say that I had one meal consisting of one course, so I'm not sure if my opinion counts for much. Pork medallions in cider with new potatoes and vegetables were cooked beautifully and tasted delicious. Staff friendly too. A brief but very enjoyable experience - thank you.

I treated my husband to dinner in the restaurant for his birthday and Valentine's. The service was first class, 3 handsome, courteous waiters tended to our every need from offering to take our coats to topping up our drinks and making sure we were happy with the food. The special valentine's menu was mouth wateringly fabulous. The portions were spot on. I had the brie followed by the rack of lamb then a chocolate box which I had to smash to reveal the gooey chocolate mousse and caramel centre .. Hubby enjoyed garlic mushrooms, sea bass, which was cooked to perfection, followed by apple pie and ice cream. Credit goes to the chef for a truly awesome meal and fantastic value for money too. We stayed at the Eskdale hotel and ate in the restaurant, the food was lovely, well presented and very tasty. There was a lot of choice, not much for vegetarians but I guess you could ask. The young man who served us was friendly and the service was good.

Had a lovely meal, great friendly service and very tasty steaks 😀. Had a three course meal all good portion sizes.

We stayed at this hotel and ate in the restaurant twice. The food was beautifully cooked and the staff lovely. We also sampled some of their cocktails which were far too easy to drink! Thank you for a great stay and lovely food.

We went for a drive and stopped in Langholm. As it was lunchtime we went into here for a meal. We could not fault the hospitality of this venue. The food was good, well presented. The staff very helpful and efficient. This was the first time we had gone anywhere and told the chips were freshly peeled potatoes and fried as ordered. Not frozen ones. Would recommend this to anyone.

Fantastic meal again - we just love eating here the staff and managers are very friendly. The food was to die for with perfectly laid out dishes and fantastic wine - we will be back

My partner and myself stopped off in Langholm after a visit to the Tibetan Monestary nearby for a bite to eat.We walked into the bar/restaurant around 4:30,and there was a girl serving drinks at the bar to someone in front of us.After finishing serving him,she turned around and went onto her hands and knees and started cleaning units and a machine of some sort on the floor. She could quite clearly see us waiting to get served before she turned her back on us,and at no point did she apologise or acknowledge us.This carried on for a good 3-5 minutes at which point my partner turned to me and asked if we were invisible.I replied on my usual voice,very probably. We turned around at that point and walked out and went elsewhere for something to eat.The whole experience was shocking and deeply upsetting for my partner to have been ignored in a place where customer service is supposed to be paramount.AT NO POINT did this girl get of her knees to apologise and we left with her still attending to something way more important than customers needing service. I have never seen a person so blatantly disrespectful and if I was the Manager of the hotel and saw what had happened,I would have sacked her on the spot.Enough said-I will always tell people what an awful experience I had that Sunday whenever I talk about customer service in future.

We have dined in here several times and have had excellent meals each time. the service and attention to detail is brilliant. The staff and management are so helpful and attentive. We will certainly be back on our next visit to Langholm.

The hotel restaurant has a well deserved reputation for good food which is extremely good value for money.

A return visit after some 35 years. Just as good, just as comfortable and welcoming. What a relief to find that some places don't change just for change's sake.
