Great cafe in a rural spot. As we were a group of 16 hungry cyclists and hadnt received a warm welcome at one cafe, we rang ahead to be told, yes, they could accommodate us. When we arrived 25 minutes later, the owner had made a victoria sponge! The scones were the best we've had so far.

My husband and I had an evening meal at The Smithy with a couple of friends on Saturday evening. The meal was excellent, as was the welcome and the service. The menu was imaginative and the atmosphere was very good. We would certainly eat there again if in the area and would thoroughly recommend it.

I have been here on numerous occasions when visiting this part of Scotland, I have written a review about Loch Arthur before, but do you know what, when a place is good then why not praise it again. As usual the cafe and shop are well organised with plenty of freshly made foods as well as freshly home grown vegetables and fruit, not forgetting the locally handcrafted goods. The whole place is immaculately clean. The cafe serves amazing home cooked food, do try their soups, they are just scrumptious. The staff whether in the cafe or shop are courteous, smiling, friendly and willing to help. Too good to be true, NO, this place is amazing, if I were able, I would move near there to be able to go more often.

My wife and i enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea at the Abbey Cottage today. The afternoon tea consisted of freshly made sandwiches of your choice , fruit or plain scone with clotted cream and jam and a choice of different sponge cakes along with a pot of tea. It may be advisable to book the afternoon tea in advance as we did. The Abbey Cottage has all the best attributes of a traditional tea room The staff were welcoming , conversational and friendly. The premises were very clean. The food itself was a treat. There is a convenient car park behind the cottage which also serves as the car park for the ruin of Sweetheart Abbey which is next to the cottage. In addition to the tearoom the cottage also has a shop selling locally produced goods. The Abbey cottage is very much worth visiting if you are in the area.

While visiting family in the area, we decided to pop out for a light lunch. I have to say, the staff here were just so incredibly kind, not just in the café but throughout the whole place. Even though it was busy and there were others waiting for tables, we never felt rushed. The food was good and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. We will be back and highly recommend.

Both had the fish and chips. It came quickly and was nicely cooked. The cheesecake dessert was delicious. Had two glasses of wine which was reasonably priced. The service throughout was very friendly. Overall good value and a good bar meal. We will come back.

Took family for dinner and was very disappointed with both the service and the food which was overpriced. Anchor used to be a real favourite of mine. This was my first visit in 4 years and sadly based on my experience on this occasion, I wouldn’t recommend.
