Great cafe in a rural spot. As we were a group of 16 hungry cyclists and hadnt received a warm welcome at one cafe, we rang ahead to be told, yes, they could accommodate us. When we arrived 25 minutes later, the owner had made a victoria sponge! The scones were the best we've had so far.

Great stop for coffee and tea with lots of cakes and scones to go with them. We also used the shop and were very pleased with the goods on offer and the pricing. It’s a great initiative and one we are more than happy to support. Well done to all those involved 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

What a gorgeous, friendly accommodating and delicious experience we had. From the lovely welcome, the fetching of bowls of water for our dogs and allowing our girls to have a breakfast option for lunch, nothing was too much trouble for the gorgeous staff. We had a yummy sunny, outdoors lunch of homemade quiche and the biggest, best club sandwich ever. We couldn’t resist tea and homemade cakes for pudding which didn’t disappoint! A massive wedge of chocolate cake, 2 Ricky roads and a lovely shortbread empire biscuit later we headed on a walk to exercise our satisfied selves! What a brilliant community triumph. Thank you!

We cycled from Castle Douglas to Palnackie and rewarded ourselves with excellent coffee, delicious simnel cake (it was Easter Saturday) and a fresh baked scone. Service is charming. This is a community run cafe and it’s brilliant. Great looking menu, we’re planning a breakfast bike ride next.

What can I say. This community cafe is the best I’ve ever been in. The staff are wonderful and don’t rush you. There was 4 of us today. We chose the salmon pate special and Victoria sponge. Outstanding. We will be back. You must go, it’s wonderful.

This little resturant is absoultley amazing, from the minute you walk in the door you are greeted by a friendly waitress. The choice of food is spot on with vegetarian choices. Presentation was stunning, flavours were so so good. Its high end food in a little resturant. All the desserts were home made and phenominal served on a black slate absoultley 1st class. Well worth a visit.

stopped in this gorgeous little cafe in Palnackie while touring Dumfries and Galloway. What a fabulous Sunday lunch and brilliant service, a real gem of a place we nearly missed. Definitely worth a visit if you're in or near the area, you won't regret it!

Stayed in Palnackie for a week - village shop looks like it is run by the village - different lady behind counter on every visit. They were all very sociable and a nice friendly greeting when you entered. Long may it continue - such a pleasure to find a village shop like this in such a small place.

Last day of our holidays - went here for lunch with our small family. Food was flawless, and both members of waiting staff were superb. One of the highlights of our trip. Will certainly be back.

Being a dog owner we regularly use Google reviews to check if dogs are allowed in, especially when we are visiting an area for the first time. We therefore checked The Riverbank out and saw, in the Gemini generated summary as well as several reviews ( one 2 months ago) that it was dog friendly. On turning up earlier today we noted a 'no dogs' sign on the door so I popped upstairs to check....and apparently the answer is 'it depends!', ie whether busy, how they feel on the day. This is completely unhelpful to customers as it either is, or isn't and should be up front about this. If you let dogs in it will appear in your reviews! Anyway your loss and another cafes gain as there are other lovely dog friendly places in the town (Lime Bothy, Belted Galloway) so I'd suggest you take your business elsewhere if you have a dog.
