Nice little cafe to stop for a decent coffee and lovely coconut and raspberry cake . Staff where very friendly and helpful. Ordered at counter and sat outside with my trusty dog Lexi, as no dogs allowed in side, which is fine. Lady asked on bringing my brew and cake if Lexi wanted a dog bowl, nice touch. Definitely worth a visit.

We called in for some lunch, two of our party have a learning disability. The waitresses were very rude and clearly didn't appreciate our custom, despite the fact we spent almost £50.

We were on a family day out and had just visited the amazing Dalbeattie Museum (can’t recommend this enough!) and were recommended the Granite Kitchen as a lunch option. The restaurant itself has a cosy atmosphere. We were welcomed to a table and given menus. The waitress, who was lovely, came to take our order and we asked for the soup and sandwich deal from the menu. I’m not sure if it was the cook or the owner, but a lady came from the kitchen area and told us - in a very stern tone - there would be no soup as ‘it’s summer, and too hot for her’. Given that we were asking for something that was listed on the menu we were a bit taken aback by her attitude - she made us feel like we’d asked for slugs on toast and the other people in the restaurant turned to look at the table as they too had been surprised by her tone. Given that soup and a sandwich takes up at least a third of the menu - and also that we hadn’t been told there were any changes to the menu - we were really surprised at her attitude and it made us feel really uncomfortable. We had two young children with us so took another look at the menu and decided to opt for the fish and chips. To which the cook/owner lady came to announce there was ‘NO FISH!’ (Which ruled out most of the rest of the menu!) The lovely waitress looked a bit embarrassed by her attitude and it was an all round awful experience. Maybe they were having an off day, but they absolutely need to work on their customer service skills. The waiting staff should be versed on what is/isn’t available and there is NEVER a need to make someone feel uncomfortable for ordering something which is quite clearly listed on the menu. There are lots of lovely eateries nearby and I would recommend giving this one a miss.

Very odd. Chef lady was abrupt and rude to our family. When we asked for two children to split an adult main course (they didn't do it on the kids menu), we were told we'd have to pay extra for another empty plate. Never had this in a cafe before. "You're doing me out of a meal" was the reason. Then the lady got ruder as we chose to leave. Then she sort of apologised and then started mouthing off again. Weird. Bit embarrassing to be honest. Will not be back. Ever. And we are locals. Luckily lots of nice places nearby. With friendly staff.

Although we were only in for a quick snack once we saw the cakes we could not resist. We had a chocolate orange cake, a red velvet cake and a rainbow cake and they were among the best we have ever had. The service was excellent and it is clear not only that this cafe is very busy but they had a great rapport with their customers.

The afternoon tea is also enticing back at the end of our holidays. Give this local business your support...Eat local. Highly recommended.

Can across this lovely place whilst in Dalbeattie - the food was excellent (no half portions) - the cost was very reasonable and staff friendly and helpful. The place filled up pretty quick at dinner time on a Wednesday, the tell tail sign of a great establishment is the fact that there was a steady stream of locals coming in for their take away lunch. Will definitely go here again

We went for lunch (a group of four ladies) on a very wet and windy day and found a friendly haven. Very warm and cosy with great food, very generous portions at very reasonable prices. I had a gorgeous bacon and sausage bap, an excellent scone and superb decaffeinated coffee. The others had a baked potato with topping and salad, scrambled egg and gorgeous cake and everyone was pleased with the quality of their food. Thank you for a warm welcome and for not throwing us out when we kept on chatting long after we had finished eating and drinking! Am sure we will be visiting again.

We were heading to an RSPB reserve and stopped off here for lunch and a little look around. We had jacket potatoes with cheese which were nice, especially the coleslaw, but the potatoes had been cooked in the microwave and not baked in the oven; disappointing. We waited quite a while for our meals, but the service was pleasant, as were the local people.

Boyfriend and I went here and had an enjoyable breakfast. He had the full Scottish and I had the vegetarian breakfast. I’m lactose intolerant so I was pleasantly surprised that the vegetarian breakfast was also dairy free (minus the butter that comes with the toast obviously). All in all, a good breakfast and we’d definitely go back.

Generous Scottish Breakfast, but the edge of the bacon, the bottom of the tomato and the sausage were burnt. No one came to see if the meal was ok, but eventually I called the waitress over and said, “I don’t like burnt sausages” to which she replied, “It’s not burnt, it’s grilled.” She did however replace it, so I have given 3 stars. However I see a previous customer also complained about the “almost charcoal effect” and it’s still happening.

Having visited before, and finding out it had been taken over by new people, I was disappointed at the breakfast as most items where over cooked almost charcoal effect, I know there is a fine line. I had the pancakes with bacon whilst I asked for mine to be well done, it was, but to burn a pancake? Quality of produce used seemed really good, presentation was good, just over cooked guys/lassies. maybe just a bad day.

I would definitely eat here again and next time sample one of the home made cakes on offer.

If I could give more stars I would! We visited here on 2 occasions for food, as a family while holidaying along the road. My partner and I also enjoyed a few drinks in the beer garden on sunnier days. So impressed with the lovely, friendly, helpful staff. The food was really good pub grub, tasty and good value. I should have taken pictures, but I was too busy enjoying it!! Also, a special mention to the lovely wee lady behind the bar who got my rum & coke just right every time (1 ice cube 😉). If we lived locally, we'd be back for sure.
