The King's Arms Hotel in Dumfries & Galloway

My husband and I stayed here for three nights. The room was lovely, clean and tidy. We had the tea, coffee, milk and biscuits replenished every day. We had all of our meals here too which were all delicious and reasonably priced. The staff couldn't do enough for us and made us feel very welcome and we will definitely be back.

Visited for the 2 nights over the weekend for my wife's birthday. We know the area well and she loves to do the walks we are familiar with both in the forest and on the coast. We have stayed at the Kings Arms previously and once again the room , service and food were excellent. Wonderful atmosphere , warm friendly welcome with staff doing all they can to accommodate our needs . It would be difficult to single out any particular member of staff for praise as they were all great, even down to the lovely lady who was giving the bar a good clean the morning we left ! Hopefully we Will be back again.

The food is absolutely fabulous - we dined here 3 times whilst on holiday - it is a very special place and we cannot speak highly enough of the food and the lovely staff.

If you have a dog and want a quality meal in Dalbeattie - this is the place; sit in options in the town are very limited; We ate here for 4 nights and the menu is so good and ever changing with specials; staff and customers very friendly- we were treated very well

Went with the family and took a friend . Once again the food it just brilliant and so fresh . Plenty of food and the staff are lovely . It was very busy last Saturday night so we had to wait a little bit longer than usual , but it’s worth the wait . The beef stroganoff is just the best I have ever tasted and so much beef in it … The scampi was gorgeous and the fish and chips was also great . Every time we eat here it’s just so good . Especially when Lynne is cooking . Love eating here .

Another beautifully cooked brekkie at this lovely gig. Smiling friendly staff (as ever). Always a pleasure to visit for whatever reason whether with small or large group. Highly recommended!

Wow what a find! Stop off for a night at the caravan site. Looked for somewhere nice to eat with our dog. We were not dissapointed. Friendly staff. What a menu.? So many different choices. The food was fabulous!!! Very reasonably priced. What an absolute gem of a place.

Arrived here having raced around the area looking for somewhere that was open and still serving food, a total of about 18 miles. We were prepared to put up with any food that could be provided. Nothing was too much trouble and we had the choice of the main menu and the 'specials' board. What a treat. We had both starter and a main course and I promised myself a desert but couldn't find room. Staff were friendly and welcoming (despite it being locals quiz night and about to get very busy) and the food was delicious.. I don't understand how they can keep the prices so low for such great value. The folk of Dalbeattie are fortunate to have such an establishment in their area and it is well used for meetings and other community events. Well worth the 36mile trip.

Top quality, but not top price. Gluten free and Vegetarian not a problem. Friendly and welcoming. Worth a visit.

Staff were so welcoming and friendly, didn’t wait long for our food. I had fish that was cooked to perfection and plenty on your plate. The gammon steak from the grill was taken to another level. Will definitely eat out here next time we visit the area Thank you The Kings Arms :)

Ate here when staying in the area. Food was excellent - gastritis pub grub. Portion sizes are generous, cater for vegetarians and there is a wide choice on the menu. If you appreciate tasty and well prepared food this is somewhere you will enjoy.

We ate here a couple of evenings during our stay in Dalbeattie. There is a great range of meals and all our choices were very tasty. The service was excellent - the lady who took our orders was so friendly and welcoming.

The staffs were very friendly and very welcoming and lovely atmosphere even was fascinated by the calling device they had for our table pressed the bottom for order, and billing. And our meals was cooked from scratch and their homemade chips was totally sublime

Popped in for a few drinks during our stay in Dalbeattie and although quiet (due to Covid restrictions) we found it very welcoming.Chatted with locals and the bar man was very friendly and informative regarding area etc. We will return should we be in the area again.

This traditional hotel/pub restaurant had a much larger range of food than you would usually find in a similar place. We each had a starter and main and the food was delicious. There was plenty of distancing between groups and they had a brilliant call-bell system that let you ask to order food or drinks or to ask for the bill.

We have stayed a few times and it never disappoints. The rooms are clean and tidy with everything you need. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. Amazing breakfast and evening meals. Thank you lynne for you excellent waitress service! We will be back

Been going to the King's Arms for years, to eat and drink, can't say I've had a bad experience yet ,food has always been very well presented and tasty especially the Gamon Steak, I like mine (well done )

While we were staying in Dalbeattie for a long weekend in January, we were recommended to visit the "King's Arms" for some good food.We did indeed follow this advice and were well rewarded by superb food and excellent beer.The friendly staff were very accommodating and secured us a spacious table and provided a high-chair for our one year old.We all left as very satisfied customers and will return when next in the town.

This is a busy pub and you need to book around the weekend. We enjoyed our meal here - the food is hearty, with good-sized portions, but not outstanding. The locals were friendly and the staff welcoming.

Had evening meal food was fantactic and well priced as was the beer ! Service excellent even though they were busy. very enjoyable experience cant wait to go back.

Had a lovely party for my engagement, the staff had no clue about the playlist, or how to play music on the speaker system! They were very unhelpful and had overall negative impact on the party. I was very disappointed and hoped it would be much more lively! Only one member left if staff a young thin girl was at all interested in getting it sorted! You

Situated conveniently in the heart of Dalbeattie, this is a very popular pub/restaurant with locals - and for good reason. The menu is extensive and good value, the staff friendly and efficient. There's modern, airy restaurant through the bar so it's good for families too. The fish and chips are massive with lovely fresh fish.

I have visited this Pub a few times now and the food just seems to get better each time I visit and its been great each time. The food Looks and tasted great the staff are friendly and efficient and the prices are good, what more could you want. Top Job

We experienced first class service, facilities and food. The hotel is situated within reasonable distance of all local attractions and within easy reach of Dumfries.

This was my first visit to the Kings Arms at Dalbeattie My stay could not have been better and very highly recommended. The rooms are well decorated very clean and cosy the staff are very friendly and welcoming, the breakfast was 2nd to noneof the food in the restaurant within the pub fabulousI will definitely be going back.

This is a nice pub in the centre of Dalbeattie. Good service, good choice of food and nice atmosphere. We enjoyed a Sunday roast, which was typical pub fayre, but hot, well presented and tasty.

staying with family in village - went for meal on Monday evening. All had starters and mains with drinks fantastic value ! Food excellent fresh vegetables and home made chips - lovely ! Great friendly staff and very efficient- a great place to drink and dine ! Don't come to Dalbeattie and not visit this place !!!

We came here after trying to go to The Leaf which we were told had closed down on arrival. We were recommended the Kings Arms hotel as it wasn't bad! It was actually great!!

Having been in the area on holiday wee popped in for a meal and were pleasantly surprised by the welcome and getting sat down for a meal. The staff were very friendly and helpful and gave us a table after ordering our drinks then brought them to our table. Myself I went for the scampi and was asked if I would like crumbed or battered. I went for battered and the whole meal was really delicious I could have eaten double they were that delicious (just greedy as portion size was perfect) my daughters tried them and loved them too, much to my annoyance. Really yummy. My wife went for the steak pie and she was very happy with the meal and impressed with the double pastry layers and the flavours from the gravy were superb (she wants the recipe). Commenting that it was in her top 5 of steak pies that she has eaten in all the places she has been. The girls had fish and chips from the kids menu and were very happy and cleared their plates as usual. I have to say all in all a genuine 10 out of 10 for food and service and lovely staff. Great stuff and keep up the good work. Happy campers again. Plus no dishes for me to wash. Thanks

Delicious piping hot sunday lunch. Very generous portions. Super roast and lovely fresh vegetables. Desserts to die for, i.e. Sticky toffee pud. Served by friendly, helpful staff in lovely, recently refurbished restaurant area. Highly recommended by each of my party of five. Will visit again.

We stayed for four nights, attending a wedding anniversary party held there that was perfectly catered for. Breakfasts are generous and very tasty, the staff making our stay like a home from home.

My foster brother decided to treat myself and my wife to lunch in the Kings Arms.There was refurbish in the restaurant and had our meal in the public bar.The meal was first class,soup was delicious and steak pie had ample meat in it my wife had macaroni which was lovely and creamy.Onion rings were the best we have ever tasted.The two ladies were polite and made sure we had everything we needed.We thoroughly recommend it for a wonderful meal,will be telling our friends all about it.

As someone who eats out quite regularly, I can confirm that you will find the quality and quantity of the food and service in the Kings restaurant is exstremmly good.recomending ,chicken breast in garlic sauce or the steak sandwich

We have been visiting the area for about 25 years, and have always passed The Kings Arms by, mainly because it didn't look particularly enticing from the outside. On our latest visit, we thought we'd give it a go, and wow!! I got the garlic chicken, which was amazing, and by all accounts the others enjoyed theirs too. The service was top notch too, very welcoming, we will return!

Busy hotel with tasty food ate there over the weekend lunch and dinner it was very busy as there was a folk festival n but staff seemed to manage very well and service was quick and friendly. Staff

Dinner last night in the Hotel excellent menu also some good specials on the board good service . My partner took the Salmon and Chips ,while I had a king prawn starter and a Chicken and Black pudding which was really good once I scraped the red currant sauce off the chicken .itI was not a good combination especially with the black pudding which was saturated in it .Ginger pudding and custard ,well up to standard but the peach crumble was not cooked through

If your in the Dalbeattie area the Kings arms is a must,you always feel welcome & the food is consistently very good.we have eaten here on quite a few occasions & never been disappointed with quality or price.A good tip is to get in early Friday ,Saturday & Sunday evenings as it fills up very quickly !Well done to everybody concerned you've got it 100% right.

We did not have high hopes as the service was confused. We were surrounded by a pub quiz and it was an unusual atmosphere. However the food was really nice . The haggis starter was absolutely lovely , I could only wish to be able to get it where I live

Cozy clean room #3. Double Room was in the front and it was ok. We'd go for 2 twins next time. Scottish breakfast was good. All in for L60.

We ate in this restuarant on two evenings. A very extensive choice of menu and the food was excellent.

Had lunch here while on holiday. Food is very good and reasonably priced. We had two young children with us and they were most helpful with high chair and good service.

I recently visited with friends that had arrived I expectantly and we were all delighted with the quality of the food and friendliness of the staff.

Turned up for Sunday lunch, very nice service including table service, unusual for a pub style eatery. Food was all very good and very reasonable, couldn't fault it. Would go again

Food was great and very affordable. What really stood out however was fantastic service! Our youngest was a bit unsettled during the meal which the waitress recognised and she actually walked and rocked our baby while we ate! Will def return.

Visited this lovely, friendly pub on Sunday for our lunch and was surprised at the great value deal. A fiver bought me lasagne and garlic bread followed by a chocolate fudge cake, my husband had macaroni cheese, garlic bread and fruit salad with ice cream. Although small portions (hence the price) it was perfectly sized for a lunch and was very tasty. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the pub inside was clean and comfortable (don't be put off by the dull exterior)and drinks were very reasonably priced compared to the dearer pubs in Kippford. We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon there.

We arrived just after lunch service had stopped however the staff were so lovely and accommodating serving us lunch. The portions were good and the chips lovely. Definitely worth the visit for top class pub grub! Impressed.

Staff very friendly, recommended we have 2 course meal for £5.....so we did and it was very good for the money. Good atmosphere good quick but not rushed service.

Always a good meal in The Kings - and every member of staff is friendly and efficient. They regularly have special offers (always great value) and there is always a good, relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant. Would highly recommend.

All summer we have frequented this delightful local hotel on a Friday evening as they had a Steak and wine special on! The staff are always very accomadating, the Food to a good standard plenty of it and hot ,they are family friendly and never rush you to clear for another table,.we would recommend this hotel for any occasion wether it be lunch or dinner.

Great food served in nice surroundings with lots of space in the lounge bar area. Bar meals are very good and keenly priced too. Friendly staff.

Needed a quick lunch and were served within 20 mins with great, freshly cooked food at a great price

Ordered a medium rare steak, after half an hour it came out well done and the chips were not quite cooked. The Mrs had salmon with creamy mash, it was lumpy and dry. I would not go there again.

Booked in for a couple of nights after staying a few miles away at the begining of the month.The manager is amazing there is nothing she won't do to make your stay lovely. The staff are friendly, the room was immaculate and the food in the restaurant is beautiful.

Friendly staff and very comfortable accommodation. Excellent breakfast with great choice. Stayed for six nights returning for another week's stay next month. Ideal location with easy access to all the area has to offer. The owner Rhona is a mine of information and most helpful. Highly recommended.

Used to visit the King's arms with my partner and his mates and we always got good food and nice service,i like to sit outside when the weather permits.

Popped in for lunch, I had a chili beef wrap and while I was expecting chili con carne in a wrap for some reason I was delighted to find a Chinese style crispy fried beef surprise lurking in the wrap. Madam had a cheese toastie which she enjoyed. Both came with very good crispy fries and some marvellous coleslaw and salad. Great light lunch and well priced bar

My mum, 5 year old and I visited the King's Arms for dinner this week on our way home from a day trip. The staff were welcoming and friendly and gave us all the information about deals and specials on offer and about the children's menu. My son is a fussy eater but wolfed down his sausages, mum and I enjoyed delicious steak pie and chicken lasagne. This is pub food done really well and the value is unbelievable, 2 meals for £10 is fantastic value, especially given the generous portions and good quality of the food. Would visit again if back in the area.

Me and my friend had lunch here ,the food was an average pup food which was served quite quickly.We never got asked if everything was ok or we needed anything else while eating but not a big deal .

it was my granny and grandads 50th wedding cellibration and the staff where amazeing as they always are when we book there back room out for the hole family (talking 50 odd of us) we had had my grannys 65th birthday there too. the food is deliteful, the staff are almost like family now aswell knowing most of us by name and face, it made alot of our family gatherings special for alot of us and i look forward to the next one. highly reccomend!

We took a punt on this place for food after the place we were staying at said we should try it. Inside it's a nice place we were in the lounge, I had a couple of pints, my wife had a couple of glasses of red wine and we both had burgers, I can wholeheartedly recommend these, they were huge with hand cut chips, I had bacon and cheese on mine the bill at the end of the night was under thirty quid. In fact I struggled with the walk back to the B and B I was so full.The bar staff were all lovely too, I'd go again with hesitation.

Three of us had lunch there and we all enjoyed our meals the service was good and friendly , the meals were plated up nicely , and they were all very enjoyable , lovely lunch menu with good amount of specials

I came into the Kings for a meal with friends, we sat near the bar area, so whilst we were deciding what to order I asked a women named Elaine I think it was what the soup of the day was. In reply I got a patronising/sarcastic and completely rude reply saying that she was serving another customer and I would have to wait. The customer in which she was serving along with all my friends were quite taken aback. Elaine was unenthusiastic and her customer service skills are seriously lacking, seemed like she would rather be anywhere than at her work. Not a pleasant person at all.

We were really disappointed with the light lunch we had-the tuna in toastie was dry and the ham and pickle toastie was all pickle any minimal ham!!!

My first experience of eating haggis and it was delicious. We were in Dalbeattie for 5 nights and ate at the kings arms hotel on 2 nights. The food was fantastic and the staff were friendly and chatty.

It must have been a wee while since I last visited, because Irene said she thought we'd emigrated! Great banter, great food (real chips!!) with prompt and friendly service. Highly recommended!

We live locally in Dalbeattie. Not been to eat in The kings for a while, but we decided to go for lunch 1 Sunday afternoon. We were very disappointed with the menu selection but managed to choose something each. My 10 year old Daughter didn't fancy anything from the kids menu so we asked for a half portion of 1 of the adult meals. We were told they could not do this. So, she managed to choose something from the kids menu. When her meal came it was not as described on the menu. Was supposed to be bbq tenders but instead was more like frozen chicken dippers. The toastie with someone else's meal was barely toasted, the wedges were tasteless. None of us particularly enjoyed any of it unfortunately. I get the feeling that alot of the food is frozen & not homemade which is disappointing & not what we were looking for atall.

Weve been to eat at The Kings lots and lots of times. Never been disappointed yet. Freindly atmosphere and great service what more can you ask for ! Highly recommend this place if youre visiting Dalbeattie, you need to be at least eating here. Ive not stayed here but have spoken to people who have and they did nothing but rave about the place so if I needed a hotel this would be the place for us ...a hidden gem. Hope to be back for another steak and ale pie very soon yummm!

Steak pie is to die for, yummy! Fresh vegetables is a must, and always get them here. The service is wonderful, and it's very very clean :-)

Our group went for Christmas lunch every one enjoyed it , staff were the usual friendly ones . Good start to Christmas

Excellent food and a nice place to eat. Staff are friendly and food arrives hot and very tasty. Very varied menu, and the senior citizens deal is well worth trying. We've been here several times and never disappointed. Reasonable prices too.

We had the 'early bird' meal and it was excellent. The food was good, the service fine and the drinks more than adequate. We'll be back.

The menu looked decent enough and so was the food when it arrived. The main dining area was full so we got a small table in the corner of the bar. The food came pretty quickly and for the price is was good value - decent pub grub.

Had a surprise visit from a friend so decided to take her to the Kings in Dalbeattie. We had a really lovely lunch, beautifully presented and very tasty. I enjoyed the salmon with a lemon and tarragon sauce. My friend was less extravagant and went for the steak sandwich which was very flavoursome and smelt delicious. Also, there's a small shop inside the pub which sells candles of all different scents and all sorts of great little trinkets and homey things. So my friend was able to take a few little things back with her! Had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch trip out.

Couldn't recommend this place enough. The staff are friendly and the food is yummy. There's a great choice on the menus; we had off the special board chargrilled chicken with salsa and mozzarella, surf n turf and chicken lasagne off the other menu. All was very well presented with ample portions. I was able to just get an extra plate for my two year old, which was sufficient. There's even a box of toys and paper and pencils to amuse the little'uns whilst you eat. Great atmosphere and very clean. Will definitely be back.

Meal was served with the chicken raw in the middle...took away and zapped in the microwave, When returned ham wrapping was like a bit of leather, very little offer of an apology and ignored when leaving..Leave's a lot to be desired..
