Excellent food, the all day breakfast is tasty and very good value for money. Lovely friendly staff and the cakes are amazing.

During a recent week’s holiday in Caithness with friends, we visited the Northern Sands Hotel on three different occasions for lunch and dinner. The surroundings, service and quality of the food were all of a high standard. The staff were especially well trained and fully understand allergies.

Dirty, tired and not had any investment in years, the heating wasn't even on and the owner Steve was not interested in our complaint that it was cold, said... " it's Scotland in winter!"

We visited for breakfast and there is a wide range of dishes available, however we opted for the Scottish breakfast which was filling, tasty and worth a try. Plenty of seating and dog friendly.

This was the annual Falconers Dinner, which has been held for the past 8 years. The dinner was for 20 on a preselected menu and the Catering staff presented a first class three course meal. The restaurant staff were super efficient and served and cleared the tables swiftly and were helpful to any requests. We have always received the warmest of welcomes and the staff have given their full support to ensure that the evening is a success. Overall, I believe this year's dinner was the best so far - no pressure for next year! my sincere thanks to all the team at the Ulbster

Roads End Cafe is a lifesaver at this time of the year, we were on the NC500 and fancied a bite to eat when we got to John o Groats. It is such a basic cafe but still serves hot toasties/sandwiches, soup and small cakes/scones. The lady that served us was lovely, so welcoming and willing to go the extra mile, she even recommended the haggis and cheese toastie which I couldn't turn down. Since it was so quiet, it was takeaway only but she let us sit in due to the gale force winds outside. I have to say the toasties are the best I have had in a while and not even that expensive despite the location, absolutely fantastic. It is a little gem if you're looking for something eat when you reach the most northernly point in Scotland!
